I was reading through some replies to another 'scaper's threads, and the replier said something about playing heroscape online. Can I get some information on that?

Welcome!

Currently, there is no way to play heroscape online.

That just takes an inordinate amount of patience of which I lack. I often thought of a web cam game where one could see and speak to his/her cross country opponent though. :D

I play old school: Chess by mail. Those games can last over a year depending on how hasty one is.

There is a way to play the basic game online (http://addicting-free-games.com/free_games/think-games/hero-scape.html). The computer is pretty easy to beat, but it's better than nothing I suppose.

Have not tried it yet but there is a vassal (http://www.vassalengine.org)version of Heroscape. You can play online or email.

I play lots of Memoir '44 via email with vassal. Takes awhile to get used to. If you are not familiar with Vassal it just provides the pieces, board and cards for a game. Not much for built in rules. You have to know how to play the game correctly. It will let you move however you like with not restrictions.

I've played via pm before. All you really need to do is a) find someone to play with b) agree on identical maps to build c) make a grid for that map and number and letter the sides (or you could number individual spaces, I suppose) in order to identify where you're moving your figures and d) have a lot of patience and trust that your opponent isn't lying about what they roll on the D20. :-)
Oh, btw, I don't recommend playing KoW and Gilbert this way - it's a paaaaain.
