View Full Version : Sample army builds on booster packs?

As I sat and admired everything on the boosters of my newly delivered Wave 9 last night, I thought of an interesting concept: why not have sample armies of the figures on the boosters?

A perfect place for this on a booster could be right behind the figures themselves. For example, on the blue background of the Braves and Brawlers pack, there could be a little bright colored box, with these armies side-by-side, and with a picture of the booster pack each figure comes from:

Try these armies out!

500 point army:
3x Capuan Gladiators-210 points-Collection 9
Spartacus-200 points- Collection 5
Crixus-90 points- Collection 5

490 point army:
2x Mohicans of the River Tribe-140 points-Collection 9
Brave Arrow-50 points-Collection 9
Venoc Warlord-120 points-Collection 1
x4 Venoc Vipers-160 points-Collection 1

The way the armies are displayed, they could present to a buyer a good army, that, let's say the playtesters enjoyed. The buyer could also see the collection number of the figures, and know exactly where to find the figures he didn't have. The multiples of the commons could encourage the purchase of multiple packs.

Hero packs present a problem. The amount of space needed for all the armies and pictures on a hero pack would be great. I think placing armies on hero packs could work if only a few armies, with one or two of the heroes were displayed.

A very rough idea that probably wouldn't work, but an interesting one.

So, what do you think of this idea?

I like it. Its sort of like the Yu-Gi-Oh structure decks. They came with cards to use, but then offered advice on other cards to add by buying certain booster packs. Its also a good way to make more money, as people might want to try those armies out. I like the idea.

It's a really good idea, but I think an easier suggestion would just be an insert that comes with the hero/squad cards. One side could have example army builds, while the other has ideas how to play the squad from the design team. But, you do have an awesome idea!

No, it would best serve everyone on the outside of the box. As in, while you are still in the aisle with the rest of the Heroscape stuff. WotC sells more product when it convinces you that its a good idea to buy that extra booster to get a better army and you win because you get a good army. I think its a cool idea, one that WotC should definitely consider, even if only from a business standpoint.

This would work, and I hope WOTC is listening. They could also list some of the winning armies in the GenCon tournaments, which would make those of us that don't participate sit up and take notice, and feel part of things!

Thanks guys! It's amazing what you can think of admiring pieces of plastic. :)

I really do like the idea of an insert. Now that I just opened my boosters, I think a folded piece of paper could be placed underneath the folded piece of cardboard at the bottem of the booster, allowing the buyer to only see it when he opens it up.

I hope that they do this in later Waves. It may just encourage me to buy units I hadn't considered to use before!

I like it because it would give me an excuse to buy more expantion packs. Oh and maybe you could inclued a big list in the masters sets. That would encourage new scapers to buy more scape.

They did that with SotM. There was like a "heroscape collectors ________(something)_______" and it showed everything up through like wave 7. It was a sick little poster.

I hope this never happens because it really does not help anyone.

This is the same as a recipe that only lists the ingredients and doesnt tell you how to actually make the dish.

So here comes little Johnny and he sees the Capuans and wants to get them. Johnny's Mommy looks at the package and sees he needs 3 of these and 2 other guys that come in another pack that the store doesnt have. The Capuans get put back on the shelf and poor little Johnny goes home crying.

Yes, it is true, not everyone would buy x3 of one common set, because it is more costly to some than to others. However, the armies listed would be more like an advertisment that says," Consider buying these other figures, because this army is really fun to play!".

I, for one, never even considered buying more than x2 of every common squad, but after reading about all the armies with x3 of one common squad, and how fun they were, here I am with x3 of the Knights, Warriors of Ashra, Minions, 'Reavers, Drones, and am planning on getting more Wave 1 and 9 until I get x3 of the commons in those sets. "Advertising" works. :)

I think this is a fabulous idea, because it will not lead to the situation you've described. The suggested armies would remain hidden, until the opening of the booster.

Little Johnny would then bring his Capuans home.:D

The "Let's Power Up This Deck" inserts of Yu-Gi-Oh Structure Decks where really great. You just bought your sweet Spellcaster Deck and then you got some hints to add your Dark Magician Girl and go out and by the new booster packs for a dark Magician of Chaos. It went as far as explaining why they chould be added and what else they offered.

I think a little insert with units that work well with --- and why would be good, with a reminder of getting multiples for common. Sample armies may be a little too much though.
