Looking at the bracket, it is all but guaranteed that it is going to be Raelin and Kaemon Awa moving on. The only question, just like the previous meeting of these two, is if it will be RaeKae or KaeRae.

If this one goes right I could get the full 8 points. So far it's looking quite possible. If that happens I could be above the median score for the first time since day 1. I scored only a total of 4 points for the first 5 days and never a perfect score until day 15 with Q9 and the Zombies

Alright. Cards on the table. We all know that Taelord stinks. That he's not worth his points, etc. But you've got to admit he looks really cool and imposing. When you first got him and saw him through the package didn't you get a little rush thinking about how he would destroy the opposition? Before you saw his card and knew that he should be named Taelord the Overpriced and Worthless. Before you knew how truly cruddy he was. Go back to that time. That time of ignorance and wonderment. Vote Taelord.

We feel your pain.

The Heroscape internet superhighway is littered with Overpriced-Taelord comments too numerous to count. But just to relive old memories, I submit the following fixes:

Deadly Strike
Keep his base attack of three. This would make him the ultimate one-shot destructive powerhouse that his bio claims he is. That one change would easily justify his cost.

-or-

Reduce Cost
You will NEVER get consensus on the exact amount, but a drop to 150 points should seem reasonable to most.

-or-

And this is really an adjustment to the Minions of Utgar, but change the wording on Utgar's Orders to read: "Before" as opposed to "Instead of" to give them full fledged bonding instead of the half-bond they currently possess. (side benefit to Runa, also).

Hmmm, somewhere around the total sum of all the other uniques and three of each common on a board such that all of that stuff fills up all-but-one of the starting zone hexes so that I can't grab another couple of samurai archer squads. ;)

Aldin captured it nicely in this comment in the blogs:

Ha! I remember running the numbers and being unable to find any army, map or matchup in which HT was more beneficial than some other 130 point unit(s). Just couldn't think of a single situation.

More seriously, I don't think that higher point totals especially help Hatamoto (once the total is high enough to have a decent array of other samurai). If you want to play him (and I do want to) I think you just have to accept that you'll be fielding a less-than-ideal army. (This is genuinely different to Taelord who I think has sitiuations in which he is a strong pick.)

We've played Taelord in an adjusted point tourney at 150 points...he was...err, well...overpowered. Yes, he was a dominating force, unstoppable and killed everything in a couple rounds. Him, and a few snipers simply demolished every army thrown at them.

150 points is too cheap. The problem with him isn't cost, it's the whole design. +1 to ranged attacks is huge, much bigger than people realize, especially with snipers. But it's just as deasdly on other squads. I wish, as I've said before, that his stats were better and all that jazz, but mostly that he didn't give +1 to ranged, only to melee. That way you could make him into a the gladiator powerhouse he should be and everyone will love him. He could have higher defense and attack, or deadly strike and only give +1 to melee and suddenly he's very interesting to play. Unfortunately, Tealord walks a fine line between overpriced and broken as he is. turst me, lowering his points is NOT a good idea. My monkeys are still feeling the pain from that.

Try:

Taelord: 180
Snipers x2: 200
Rats x3: 120
Total: 500

It's not too bad really.

200 Omnicron x2
180 Taelord
080 Raelin
040 Deathreavers

But your point is well made that he teeters between Overpriced and Broken. Restricting his Aura is one of the better fixes I've heard. What if it were a 2-hex aura like Master Woo?

Does anyone around here still have Taro's old prototype card?I believe it's up at the Hasbro website, if I'm not mistaken.

Thanks for all the Taelord advice everyone. I have won with the guy before and I like him, but I realize he's kind of cruddy. It's fun just to make him hang back and shout out "Kill that one. No, that one!" and not ever get him really involved.

There is truth in what you say, however, Tae enhancing swarms of cheap units is usually better than a select few uniques.(can't argue against snipers as that is the obvious combo) The unique squads are good early game but by mid you are only getting 1-2 attacks. Stingers? 3 attacks of 3-5 all game long. Plus when combined with a gaggle of reavers, the shorter range is a non issue as the reavers will be tying everything up. Also, in a all from one general format, it is even more formidable. Reavers and Stingers are very cheap and very strong for their price, which makes a high pt unit like Tae much easier to field.

In 500 pt army, you could have 9 snipers or 9 agents (any combo) plus Tae; You get 8 reavers and 12 stingers and tae for the same price. (11 more life or almost double the life pt of the sniper/agent army)

I think you may have a problem...a heroscape problem. NO one in their right mind should now THAT much about HS. I'm sure there are groups out there for folks like you. I think Jonathan should join you. That boy knows every card and all the numbers in them. ;)

You're right about the mass of stingers. But after our cruching defeat at the hands of longscaper, I see the damage a few long ranged units with rats can do. When you cannot get past the rats at all, it doesn't really matter if you have 6 snipers or 12 stingers, none of them wiull die anyway!

Now, as to Raelin being used...like many women, she'd love to have you think that is what she is thinking, and fact, she workd for that effect; but when it comes down to the final measurements (a carefully chosen word), it is not she who is being used or even abused, but you (and me).
