4th Mass. Why? Originally, these guys were underestimated. People thought, "How lame. They're weak." But they have since proven to be one of the most dominating forces in Heroscape...when used en masse.

The underdog army shocked the world (just like in real life). :)

In my opinion they did a pretty good job of delegating the choices out into the brackets. Some brackets (like this) seem loaded while others were rather thin on choices. In either case, it makes for good competition.

I still don't see that many people playing the 4th Mass at tournaments. I've only played against them 4 or 5 times. 3 of them were on the same day, when the point total and glyphs were pretty good for them.

In my experience (http://www.heroscapers.com/community/blog.php?b=516), the 4th Mass are woefully under played. (Just 4/69 of my tournament games have been against people playing 4th Mass).

The last two battles ended around 160 votes. My guess is we have about 40 voters left - plenty of time to push the Izumi Samurai to take 2nd! (4th Mass. 1st of course.)

This really was a hard choice. One of the hardest (like the Knights, Ninjas, Heavies, EOV, MacDirks coming up).

I thought there would be more 4th Mass hate/envy, but, hey, I'm enjoying watching these develop, either way. (Read: I'm not winning this one! :D)

*Sigh* Only one point this round. I had the 4th in second behind Arrow Gruts. I was hoping the 4th's vote would be kept down by the annoyance factor and I had hoped the Grut fans would show up...but I guess they only like big Gruts. :(

This was a good round for me. I actually didn't have to think too hard about this one. It was 4th Mass hands down for the win, they are just too popular (but not anoying like the rats and Q9). I thought about the arrow gruts for a while, but then decided that the Sentinel "cool" factor would bring them in second. This is a good redemption from the last round in which I underestimated the Venoc Warlord. I am going to have to use him again.

From their vantage point on a nearby hill, Jandar’s army looked over the valley in horror. Down below, in a clearing, stood the elven archers of Aubrien with their commander Acolarh. A pale green fog surrounded them, emanating from the eerie glow of Acolarh’s upheld banner. The Leaf of the Home Tree protected them…and they would need it.

From behind the surrounding bushes and shrubs blue-skinned orcs sprang forward shooting arrows as they ran. Heedless of their own safety they charged straight toward the crowd of elves, shrieking high pitched war cries. Few of the black arrows hit their mark and fewer of the orcs made it across the little field, for the elves were firing back.

Working at a frenzied pace, the elven archers notched their arrows, aimed, shot, and reloaded. From a distance it appeared to be a senseless blur of activity. So quickly they shot, and with such precision that soon there was a pile of bodies filling up the clearing. Yet the orcs kept pouring out of the woods. Leaping over their fallen comrades they charged forward sending a black hail of arrows into the group of defenders.

“We should help them,” called one of the Minute men. One of Jandar’s Sentinels leaned closer to hear over the din.

“Your muskets cannot reach from this distance,” replied the Kyrie, “and we cannot fly through those forests in time to be of assistance.”

“But we have to do something!” yelled the soldier, fingering his musket nervously.

“We may not have to,” said the Sentinel pointing into the forest, “look.”

Just then there appeared on the edge of the clearing a group of sword wielding warriors. Clad in bright red armor, they waded into the onslaught of orcs, slicing wide arcs with their silver blades. They plunged into the forest and were hidden from view by the underbrush. Judging by the screams of the orcs, the red warriors were working their way up the hill towards Jandar’s company.

Meanwhile, the ranks of the elves were thinning rapidly. Swift as they were, they could not outpace the sheer number of their enemy. Soon the savages turned their attention to the new threat of the mighty samurai. Up the hill they raced, joining their wicked brethren in the fight.

“Here they come,” called the tall Kyrie in a booming voice, “prepare to advance!”

“Wait!” the Minutemen yelled back. Others of his brigade had come up beside him and together they leveled their muskets. “Just wait.”

Orcs burst out of the forest, followed immediately by the samurai. Their swords were now as red as their armor and they slashed out, cutting at anything. Up they ran as one uncontrolled pack.

“Wait!”

The pace of the mob quickened. Orcs scrambled uphill to escape the fury of the swordsmen.

“WAIT!!”

Loud hissing screams mixed with deep cries. Intent on their foes, the samurai never saw the crowd of guns. Looking up, the orcs met eyes with a line of musketeers…

“FIRE!!!”
