I really like the Artemis Fowl books, by Eoin Colfer. Does anyone else here read them? They are probably my favorite books ever, so I just wanted to know if you guys liked them. Thanks.

I haven't read them, but my son loves them.

I'm curious to know how many people here know how to properly pronounce the author's first name. And yes, I do know how it is pronounced.

I absolutely love these books. I have read all of them way too many times, more than is healthy. I think I 've caught every little error and plot discrepancy in all of them. But overall I love them. They are a great series, and will always have a place on my bookshelf.

I like them. Though, they only require a rather low reading level, which is a drawback to their appeal for me. Time Paradox was my least favorite of the series. To many plot holes. My favorite character is Foaly. He's constantly making me laugh. Who is everyone else's favorite character?

I like them, I think I'll use Time Paradox(which I haven't read yet) for an LA project.

I love Eoin Colfer's writing. I have only read Artemis Fowl 1 and 2, but I am trying to get my hands on the third. I also really like the Half Moon Investigation which was also written by Colfer. I love crime related books that take place in Ireland and are written for people my age!

I recently got a book report to do, and I could pick any book to do it on, so long as she aproved it. I did the Artic Insident. I loved it so much, and it was easy to write the report. Eoin Colfer is probably my favorite writer right now. (Eat your heart out JK Rowling)

Eoin Colfer is definetly my favorite auther.(yes, I can pronounce his name.) My favorite book is probably the Lost Colony, which, by the way, I just finished reading for the second time about 45 minutes ago. I have the whole series in hardback, and it was sooo worth the money. I have also read the Supernaturalist,(twice) and it was pretty good.

I liked them all very much, except for Time Paradox. It made my head explode, and I usually can get my head around time travel scenarios. The plot holes in that one could hide a barge.

Of all of Colfer's work, the Supernaturalist is probably my least favorite book. I've read it and I can't even recall it. I like the Artemis Fowl series and enjoy reading the novels as a nice distraction on a good weekend. They're an easy enough read.

I haven't read the latest one, though. I'm awaiting that one in paperback, which it may already be, but I haven't been to B&N to check in awhile.

Oh, and is his first name pronounced Own, as in I own this pair of shoes?

Close. It's basically the Irish version of Owen. There are Irish guys that might essentially say it like own, but there would still be a slight hint at an "e" between the "w" and "n". It's one of those things you see spelled and wonder how in the world they get that pronunciation out of that spelling (kind of like the city Dun Laoghaire, pronounced Dun Leery).

I already knew how to pronounce his name, but when I first saw it I thought it was like: A-O-in. lol:lol:

Thanks, Agent Minivann. I figured if it wasn't 'own', then perhaps it may have been 'ee-un', but I was wrong either way. :p

Borrowed Time Paradox from a friend at school today, I'm already halfway finished. Now to get my homework and cello practice done...

That's odd. I really liked the Supernaturalist and I can remember it pretty well. I really liked how the whole story was so focused on eliminating the bugs until the discovered that they where really doing the wrong thing. I love plot twists like that.

For the record, I thought it was pronounced like Ian (EE-in) up till I saw this thread.

Oh, I love plot twists like that, too, don't get me wrong. It may just be that I'm a bigger fan of Artemis Fowl than Colfer's other stuff and perhaps, as a result, the Fowl series' novels stick out more in my mind.

At least it sounds good, right? :)

I heard that Eoin Colfer is currently writing a sequel to the Supernaturalist. That should be a good read. But He sais that Artemis Fowl 7 probably won't be out for several years, and he hinted there might be more after that. (this was from some interview I read on some website, I don't remember where, and I don't know how reliable it is.)

Finished Time Paradox this afternoon. It was pretty good, typical of one of these books, and it did get confusing with duplicate people from different times and such, but that was kind of interesting.

You are absolutely correct. There is a youtube interview (I don't know if is still up) but he for sure said that he was taking a break from that series right now.

Interestingly enough if you didn't know it, Eoin Colfer is currently writing the next installement in the Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy series. Douglas Adams family has given the permission and has given Colfer some of Adams' notes. I'm looking forward to see how Colfer will develop that story.

I also seem to remember the Supernaturalist sequel as well, I believe that was to come after the Hitchiker book.

Come to think of it, I did hear about the Hitchiker thing. I forgot about that one.

I read them until number 4 I think (Opal Deception???). I picked them up in fifth grade, back when they first came out. They were good for my early days and them combined with Eragon springboard ed me into the world's of Sai King and the Dark Tower. The books are very good. I must agree that the Supernaturalist was a great book. Interesting world, the world of it reminds me of well something I am working on. Large city, corporate corruption. Hmm will be interesting to see what happen with the Hitchhiker series.

I've read all of them that are out, and own several. At first they were pretty good. But they have jumped the shark. As I said, they were good up until "The Opal Deception," book have gotten steadily worse since that. The author should have quit while he was ahead.
