View Full Version : ROTV set skirmish map

Here's a small map I threw together. It's symmetrical, has 18 starting spaces for each side, only requires the ROTV set, and has 2 spots for random glyphs (optional). I've played this a number of times with a friend of mine, though we have yet to play with the glyphs (which I believe is why the Krav Agents have tended to dominate).

I can't upload PDFs, so I just saved it as a PNG file:

Great first map Corpsy! It may also be helpful to put some ruins in there so the Krav don't dominate. I really like how you used the water to block the ways to the glyphs. +rep.

Good but glyph should not be high ground.

Putting glyphs on height is a mistake I believe a lot of people make when they are new to map making. I know I did.

Good concepts, there. I agree that glyphs tend to balance better on low(er) ground. I think the ruins would go well near the middle if you flattened out some space for them, but it's your call.

Btw, all you need to do to upload pdfs is download cutepdfwriter.

Thanks for the feedback.

On the glyphs, they were added as kind of an afterthought on what seemed the most natural places on this map. Although they're easier to defend, those spots are isolated, lower than the middle, and take longer to get to than anything but the middle. However, I have yet to play test with the glyphs. Perhaps they'd be better in the water spaces adjacent the outcroppings, or perhaps this just isn't a map that supports glyphs well.

As far as PDFs, I actually did use cutepdfwriter to create the original schematic, but as a new member I don't have permission to upload files to the site yet. Thanks for trying to help though.

I have a few more maps that I created, but I don't want to clog the forums with maps that I haven't at least played a few times.

Thanks again for the help!

Oh, and as far as ruins, I might just look into it. I didn't want to use them because I was trying to make the map 100% symmetrical, but with ranged dominating the limited space, LOS blockers do seem in order.

For the glyphs I would move them into the valley between the inner hill and the outer mini hill.

You could always create an account on Filefront.com and upload your pdfs there. Then provide a link. Or some other file sharing site. I prefer filefront though.

I use mediafire.com for my PDF files.
