View Full Version : Cardhaus events for Sat. Sept 16th - Seattle PNW Heroscape

So I called Cardhaus to find out what we needed to do to get space in their "Event Center" The event coordinator is Eric, really nice guy, and he is making some changes to the event center hours. The current Cardhaus hours as posted on their website are not accurate.
Short form, even if there is an event planned, they may have space available. Not during the Friday night Magic tourneys, those are full, but Wednesdays are usually partly open, and Saturdays may have space, call for availability.
So I'm checking to see what people think about playing there on Sept 16th. There is an L5R(Legend of the five rings) event on that day, but he doesn't expect a huge turnout. They have a total of 13 tables and he seemed to think that there would easily be 2-3 we could use. He'll even add us to the calendar if we like, lock in the tables.
They'll be open until 10 that night as they scheduled that for the L5R tourney. It doesn't start until 5:30, so if we got there around 2-3pm, we could have plenty of time to build maps and play a few games. We should decide on maps before hand, probably based on # of people that are interested and what kind of games they want to play.
Food/drink wise, he said we can bring whatever we want, just clean up after ourselves. They used to have some snack food (candy bars, small bags of chips, etc) there, not sure if they still do.
Ok everyone! Chime in to the poll!

I might be able to come down. Is this Cardhaus in Lynnwood? If I do I would be bringing at least one other person - possibly as many as 3 others. My barbarian hordes will sweep down from the cold north (Camano Island/Stanwood/Arlington) and pillage the soft underbelly of the urban weaklings!
How many games do you think can fit on each table? 2?
EDIT: So one of those "Maybe So" votes counts for 1-4 people.

EDIT: So one of those "Maybe So" votes counts for 1-4 people.Yes, it is Cardhaus in Lynnwood, bring all you want. If we use smallish maps, 2 per table may work. I've asked about the actual table dimensions, I'll know more later.

We played that small map that Caravaggio made last night. its really a nice size for 2 players, and they played 300 pts and 2 games in an hour or so.
But if we learn to build small stuff we may get more table room out of the deal.

Ellian said he would go too. He mentioned pre-building a few maps so they didnt take a long time to set up.
And all we really would need is cardboard boxes to transport them.
if we dont make the one really long one it may work out better.

I gotta talk to my wife about it in the morning, but I could very well be in. I was hoping for some good HSage next week, too. Perfect timing. :D

Here is the email I received from Cardhaus confirming our "event":
Hi. Yeah, the 16th is fine. I'm not exactly sure how many people we'll have for the other event, but it shouldn't be too many. You bringing 20 or so people shouldn't be a problem.
The tables are 8' x 2'6".
I'm going to put this event up on our calendar. If this is a problem for you, let me know.
Food around here is kinda sketchy. There is an underwhelming Teriyaki place right across the street, but if you want to drive down the road a small bit you'll find McDonalds, Old S. Fact., and others. Bring in whatever you want, all I ask is that your group picks up after themselves. We're all adults here!
Thanks a lot for contacting me. I'm looking forward to this. Should be good times. I hope it works for you guys and we can make this into a regular thing. With tables that are 8' x 30" we can easily setup 2 regular maps per table. We could have a "mock tourney" Perhaps in the future we could have a real tourney.
I'm fine with providing all my terrain, that would allow us 5 single set maps. I would love to have:
Road to the Forgotten Forest
Searing Pass
The Tundra map
The Castle map
Forsaken Waters or Soulrazer canyon
This way, people can play whatever terrain they might not have played on before, it will show off the different HS terrain types well, and give us 5 known tested maps to play on.
If anyone else wants to bring Master sets, people could build one big map on a table out of multiple masters and any available terrain expansions. I would be up for sharing road, lava, and tundra to the freeform project. Besides what I've committed to above, I could provide 4 road sets, 2 tundra sets and 3 lava sets.
What do people think?

I think your idea is great, bunjee! I have an unimpressive heroscape collection at the moment, so I appreciate getting to try out the various maps and such.
Are we bringing pre-made armies?

Ellian just picked up 2 more snow packs at NG Target. and they have the death reavers there
We can bring our castle set (its all marked on the bottom so it wont get mixed up)
Pre-draft? or alternating draft?

Well, I'm going to get some army ideas together before hand but still bring all my units. We should probably not draft as it takes so much time, but if people agree to draft for the game they are playing, that is all fine by me.

Howdy people.
So I'm going to send an email out as a number of people who came to my house have not posted in this thread, I want to make sure they know there is some Heroscape action this Saturday.
I'm planning on being the "provider" of all that is needed to build 5 different maps from the official selection.
Soulrazor Canyon (master set only, scenario from Gencon 2004)
Forgotten Forest (to highlight the trees and roads set)
Searing Pass (to highlight the lava set)
Tundra Map (to highlight the snow/ice set - I'll put the real name later)
Castle Map (to highlight the castle/tower set - I'll put the real name later)
I'll also bring all my figs, and an extra master set of figs. Mostly because it is really easy for me to bring everything.
People should have some armies chosen in advance. 400 points seems to be a good number for getting a few different games done in a day. I'm open to whatever is decided when people get there. I'm planning on getting there around 2pm to start setting up maps.
If anyone wants to bring their own terrain to build some other map, it seems like there will be plenty of space. Plus, we can always evict any of the 5 maps I've proposed if we want space or are done playing on it.

Want me to bring it?That sounds like plenty to build a free form map. Go for it if you like to, I think JandarSunstar and Sexecution were considering bringing their things, but maybe it would be easier for you.
Looks like I will be able to make it...! Are we going to do a mini-tourney this time, or just play for fun?I haven't run or participated in a tourney before, but I was going to chat about it with people there for future reference and maybe a mini-tourney that day. Sounds good if anyone knows about tourneys.

I think I am going to bring my brothers as well. They own at heroscape. It's funny to see a 7/11 year old(s) owning an adult!
And YES they understand all of the rules explicetly.

P.S. 400 point pre-brought armies? Is that what we decided?
Also, will any money be required? (Other than helping our the store).

September 15th, 2006, 05:25 PM
I don't really see that money is needed, bring some snacks/drinks, maybe buy a little something from cardhaus, and if we coordinate more in the future, maybe we can figure out a money pool for tourney prizes.
we'll want to discuss when we see everyone tomorrow.

Ah yes, the infamous color changing leaves, dont get much of those out here, so we wouldnt really be able to tell. The difference between Summer and winter in Seattle, one rain is 60 degrees, the other 40 degrees.
