It's easy to claim that we only listen to classic rock, or that The Arcade Fire is our most favoritest band ever, but the cold hard facts lay in your iTunes (or other media player's) top 10 most played songs. So post them here, because I want to know, truthfully, what kind of music people on these boards actually listen to (I can tell Onacara secretly rocks out to Hannah Montana).
My top 10:
1. Paper Planes- M.I.A. (44) Kala
Fantastic song, fantastic artist. If only people listened to it for reasons other than that they heard it in the Pineapple Express trailer.
2. Lights Out- Santogold (41) Santogold
Another great song. It's really chill and in general just great to listen to to get you into a good mood.
3. Shake It to the Ground- Rye Rye (31) Shake It to the Ground
A relatively unknown artist, this Diplo-produced 16 year old Baltimore Rapper's debut single is... pretty awesome. A great dance song.
4. Galang(feat. Lil' Vicious)- M.I.A./Diplo (26) Piracy Funds Terrorism Vol.1
A remix of the original Galang, this one has a rapper who I would estimate is around 7 pounding out a sweet, electronic tinged rap interlude (I'm not sure interlude is the right word). Pretty awesome.
5. Walking Blind- The Lost Trailers (24) Welcome to the Woods
I had to have some country in here somewhere. This is a fantastic song.
6. Bird Flu- M.I.A. (22) Kala
With a beat of african drums and chicken squawks, this makes for one completely rediculous song.
7. To Be With You- Mr. Big (22) Lean Into It
I'm a real sucker for rock power ballads, and this one happens to be one of my all time favorites.
8. L.E.S. Artistes- Santogold (22) Santogold
Santogold's lead single off her self-titled debut album, L.E.S. Artistes takes a long hard look at the cost of fame... and I luvz every second of it.
9. I Kissed A Girl- Katy Perry (21) One of the Boys
... I can't even... just...
10. I'm Yours- Jason Mraz (21) We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things.
I actually performed this song live at one of my school's coffee houses. It went pretty well, and since then, I've really liked this song.
So there was my (slightly embarassing) list. Let's see yours. 8)
*My format: Song- Artist (# of plays) Album
You don't necessarily have to use the same format, but try to make it understandable.

Minneapolis area band that is on its way up.
3.) Sugar, We're Goin' Down- Fall Out Boy (40) From Under the Cork Tree
4.) This Time I'm Leaving- The Wedding (39) The Wedding
Straight up Christian rock.
5.) He's A Pirate- Klaus Badelt (30) Pirates of the Caribbean Soundtrack
One of the best instrumental movie soundtracks ever produced.
6.) At Least I'm Known For Something- A New Found Glory (27) Catalyst
7.) The Anthem- Good Charlotte (24) The Young and the Hopless
8.) I'd Do Anything/Addicted- Simple Plan (22) No Pads, No Helmuts, Just Balls
9.) Sunday Bloody Sunday- Pillar (22) In the Name of Love: Artists United for Africa
Great hard rock remake of the U2 song.
10.) You Are My Hope- Skillet (21) Alien Youth
*cracks knuckles*
Okay, after a few late, late nights of rapid Mountain Dew (aka, Wellspring of Life) consumption and listening to...Skillet (aka, Christian Hardcore Awesomeness) over and over and over, I present the first chapter of Having a Marvelous Time

My Top 11... [yes, my iPod goes up to 11]
1. John The Revelator - Nick Cave 8)
A remake of an old folk song from 1927 [?]... see #10. Also the best darn song I've heard in many years.
2. With Whom To Dance - The Divine Comedy :)
A cover of the Magnetic Fields... beautiful.
3. Hiding All Away [live in Berlin] - Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds 8)
This live version rocks way harder than the over-produced studio version.
4. That's Not My Name - Ting Tings
I shouldn't be listening to this, it can't be good for me.
5. Al Gato y al Raton - Banda Machos
AAAAAA HOOO HOOOO HOOOEY! Mexican oompah music.
6. Raise Me Up - Hercules and Love Affair 8)
Released in 2008, sounds more like 1978. Disco lives!
7. Discotheque 36 - Black Francis 8)
Frank Black just rules. Period.
8. Wearin' That Loved On Look - Elvis Presley 8)
Amore obscure track by the King... if you could call any of his stuff obscure.
9. Waving My Arms - The Birthday Party 8)
Nick Cave's first band, more post-punk than gospel.
10. John The Revelator - Blind Willie Johnson 8)8)
This song is haunting. Double the 'cool rating' for this one. It really should be #1.
11. Henry Lee - Dick Justice
What a sad, sad story.
Please keep in mind that I've only had my iPod since Christmas, AND it has over 14,000 songs on it. I'll get back to you in a month if the top 11 changes significantly. As you can tell, there's a lot of Nick Cave on there.
Fun thread, +REP!

Well, I don't work on my computer, so my play counts are rather low, and some of the songs are pretty weird...
Song- Artist (# of plays) Album
1) Conspiracy - Free Radical Design (17) Second Sight Soundtrack
(It's one of my favorite computer games. Amazing story, almost unmatched, great gameplay. Unfortunately extremely short, though. You can get it for $5 at Gamestop or Amazon. WELL WORTH IT! And you can download the soundtrack for free off of their website. It's piano and voice is creepy, but beautiful)
2) 200 emails - The Poopsmith (15) Homestarrunner.com
(The 200th email song. Yeah. Well, it's only 45 seconds! :p )
3) Prologue - James Newton Howard (10) Lady in the Water Soundtrack
(Pretty music, I loved the movie)
4) Deathborn's theme - Daiki Kasho? (9) F-Zero GX Soundtrack
(Great game; cool music for the bad guy)
5) Watch the World Burn - Hans Zimmer & James Newton Howard (9) The Dark Knight Soundtrack
(One of my favorite movies, with a soundtrack that fit the movie perfectly)
6) Vespertilio - Hans Zimmer & James Newton Howard (8) Batman Begins Soudntrack
(See number 5 :p)
7) Pollyanna - Catherine Warwick (7) Mother Soundtrack
(One of my favorite game series'. They released a soundtrack with some main themes from the NES game, and gave it vocals. This song is done well, and it really raises my spirits...)
8) F-Zero GX End Credits - Daiki Kasho? (7) F-Zero GX Soundtrack
(When I finally beat this game, I heard this song for the first time. I burst out laughing so hard... For a game that took itself relatively seriously, except for the fact that they over-glorified Captain Falcon, this was crazy. Yeah, the mighty Captain slaughtered an entire gang of people because they wanted his car, and he casually beat god in a race, without breaking a sweat... But when the chorus starting singing "Thank... heaven... he's on the right side! Or else they'll be, no where to hide! Captain Falcon wil ALWAYS be found... Hot on the trail; tracking them down! Give it up for the Cap-i-tan! ...Three cheers for the Falcon!"
...That was it. Tears ran down my face. My friend and I renamed it the "Captain Falcon National Anthem." It seemed to fit.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KtUxSyclXdI&feature=related
Some of it's hard to make out, but what isn't, is absolutely hilarious....
9) Red Warrior - Hans Zimmer (6) The Last Samurai Soundtrack
(One of my favorite soundtracks, from my favorite movie)
10) Harvey Two-Face - Hans Zimmer (6) The Dark Knight Soundtrack

Ahhh, The Ting Tings. Every time I put them on... I begin to question my music taste. And then I see Katy Perry in my top 10 most played and I realize that I had none to begin with.

Pollyanna is love.
...
Personally, I cycle through songs. I don't have any kind of music player(because, well, if I'm out doing something, I'm doing something, not listening to music), but through the magic of the internet and computers, I binge on one song (listening to it VERY often for days at a time), then getting bored with it, finding a new one, rinse, repeat.
So, I couldn't tell you, even if I wanted to.

My top ten has changed somewhat because I recently went through my music library and deleted a whole bunch of songs (reason found here:http://www.heroscapers.com/community/showthread.php?t=23266). Here are my current top ten:
1. Frontline-Pillar
2. Bring Me Down-Pillar
3. Rise Up-Disciple
4. Time Of Dying-Three Days Grace
5. Broken-12 Stones
6. Whispers In The Dark-Skillet
7. Adrenaline-12 Stones
8. The Wait Is Over-Disciple
9. Stricken-Disturbed
10. Hypnotized-Pillar
There used to be more variety, but I'm working on getting some different songs up there to the top ten list.

Alright, here we go:
1) Balrog Boogie - Diablo Swing Orchestra (330) Butcher's Ballroom
Combines awesome guitarplay with the cello, violin, trumpet, and trombone into a metal-swing-big band hybrid. Combine that with an absolutely amazing female singer. Seriously, her range is a mile wide. Oh, and the lyrics are in Latin. It's absolutely infectious. I cannot listen to this song and not dance. Best of all? If you go to the artist's myspace, you can download the song for free.
2) Back and Forth - Dr. Steel (306) People of Earth!
And oldie-style industrial song wherein Doctor Steel hypnotizes his loyal followers into buying more and more deranged toys to fund his attempt to take over the world. The gravel-ly vocals fit a Mad Doctor image perfectly, and the upbeat music belies the sinister intent of the lyrics. It's summarized in Dr. Steel's wish to "Spread a burning smile across the nation!" The song is amazingly hypnotic. It also makes perfect use of a freakin' theramin. Full stop.
3) The Bill Cosby Gangsta Rap - Studged (225) Mashup
Usually, I don't like rap, but this mash-up of various cartoon versions of Bill has him debating whether Pokemon is more like Jello Pudding or Kodak film. This is also free; find the original flash animation on Albino Black Sheep, and there's a free download.
4) The Device Has Been Modified v2 - Victims of Science (222) Mashup
It's a mashup of the various quotes from GLaDOS, of Portal fame. An extremely energetic breakbeat/electronica song, this is top-of-the-line for independent mashup songs. The emotion is the climax sequence is palpable, and the genius of using two GLaDOS quote mashed together to make a new one that perfectly fits her personality is amazing. "Please proceed into-ANDRIOD HELL." Also a free download - seeing a pattern? Be sure to find V2, which is superior to V1.
5) Ghost Opera - Kamelot (222) Ghost Opera
This is the song that introduced me to both power metal and symphonic metal. Makes use of sick guitars, amazing violins and orchestral choirs to weave a haunting image.
6) Still Alive - GLaDOS/Johnathan Coulton (207) Portal
Needs no introduction. Seriously.
7) Whispers in the Dark - Skillet (199) Comatose
This song makes me cry. It has multiple interpretations, but in essence it's about a person declaring that their love for another is everlasting - even if the other person feels alone and surrounded by the darkness of the world to the point of self-destruction. The amazing "NO!/You'll never be ALONE!/When darkness comes I'll light the night with stars/Hear the whispers in the dark!" is perfectly complimented by the music and is chillingly haunting. Epic guitar and amazing vocals are just gravy. Proof that Christian music can kick face and take names.
8 ) Rider of the Astral Fire - Luca Turilli (184) Prophet of the Last Eclipse
This songs starts out with a spacey choir and ambience, then ramps up into great violins and drums, then blows your mind away with a fantastic blend of guitar, drums, violin, and electronic sounds. As a bonus, it tells the story of the titular Rider who "From the dust of a time long forgotten/Will become the destroyer of worlds/As the legend of the Ancients/Revealed with his words/He will come from the fiery dimension/Where death is a present from God/He'll face the Sacrificed one/The rider who holds/Holds the Astral Fire." Absolutely epic metal, in every sense of the word.
9) Dashboard - Modest Mouse (178 ) We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank
I really have no idea what's going on in this song. It conveys a sense of "Oh, well. It could be worse," which is pretty much my philosophy on life. The video is hilariously weird.
10) Mr. Pinstripe Suit - Big Bad Voodoo Daddy (158 ) Big Bad Voodoo Daddy
Very energetic Swing song from an excellent retro band. If you like Swing at all, this is the definitive modern example.
I'm going to go a bit further because there are some songs I feel need to be adressed.
11) Convoy - C.W. McCall (143) (This version is from an oldies compilation)
Yes, that song. The original "Trucker's Anthem." For some reason, I find the line "And eleven long-haired friends of Jesus in a chartruese micro bus" and the ensuing "You think you can pull that micro bus behind that suicide jockey? Yeah, he's haulin' dynamite, an' he needs all the help he can git..." to be extremely hilarious.
12) Under the Kilt - Dr. MacDoo (133) Under the Kilt
An extremely silly dance/electonica song whose chorus follows the tune to a traditional Scottish folk song. Despite the raunchy-sounding name, the lyrics are all in good fun: a man describing just how strange he is because of his purple glasses, utter randomness, and his ability to dance. "My feet are dancin/Under the Kilt!" All of this, with a pefect Scottish accent.
13) Through the Fire and Flames - Dragonforce (125) Inhuman Rampage
Do I really need to explain this one? Okay, seven minutes and twenty four seconds of pure win. The Hardest Metal Known to Man is Dragonforceium.
14) The Greastest Show Unearthed - Creature Feature (115) Creature Feature
Welcome, Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Ghouls!
Step right up!
Behind this curtain lies a ghastly concoction of delight, horror, fantasy and terror!
Your every wish is our command! Your every whimsical desire brought to life!
But I'm warning you...There's always a price...
Welcome to the Greatest Show Unearthed!
What's the matter, kid? You scared of clowns? If not, you will be. This song sounds exactly like a demonically-corrupted curcus tune. It has to be heard to be believed.
15) The Bells of Notre Dame - From Disney's Hunchback of Notre Dame (112) (from the movie, duh)
What can I say? This song haunts me. This excellent song from a vastly-underrated Disney movie gives me chills every time. The very EYES of Notre Dame!
EDIT: I saw that, ET86! Skillet's infectious, ain't it? Can't throw a stone online without hitting a fellow Panhead.
EDIT2: Forgot album names.

Oh, in everyday life, while I make the Last Journey Home from school, I listen to them whilst I hear the news about the Soldiers of the Wasteland. People often say I have the Heart of a Dragon, especially when crossing the Fields of Dispair in the Fury of the Storm. Like I say, there's no reason to Cry For Eternity over the Trail of Broken Hearts, because My Spirit Will Go On. They're a group that comes along Once in a Lifetime; they inspired me to Revelations, a true Dawn Over The New World.

Oh no, I'm not offended at all! It's just those three sixes really pop out, and I had a feeling I'd get a remark about them. I really don't mind (and I suppose everyone has to go through it at some point;)). Hey Pumpkin King, glad to see that one of your most played songs is a Skillet song! My favorite one by them is actually "Savior" off their older CD Collide, but the genius feature on my iPod (which plays songs that go great with a selected song) chooses "Whispers In The Dark" a lot more. Not that I mind. My favorites by them off their latest CD are "Looking For Angels", "Rebirthing", and "Whispers In The Dark" (although really the whole album is great). The genius feature is is actually how many of my top most played get to the list.

PK - Have you ever heard of a type of domestic Japanese metal called Visual K. Basically DragonForce ape the 2 major Visual K bands (X-Japan and Sex Machineguns). These bands go from playing extremely fast power metal to sappy ballads all while dress like woman. And I don't mean 80's Glam Metal. This goes far beyond that. Look them up, you'll be surprised.

You mean the X-Japan who has one song called 'Orgasm', which is made solely to emulate that event, complete with heavy female breathing? With the following lyrics:
* GET TO ORGASM, GET TO ORGASM
karada tokase (JUST LIKE DEATH)
GET TO ORGASM, GET TO ORGASM
fukaku tsukisase (JUST LIKE DEATH)
Or the family-friendly number 'Standing Sex'?
Stand up! **** up!
Show no mercy Like a lunacy
ÿ
Kick off! **** off!
I'm getting in the count down
ÿ
Marry Marry Kiss me Marry
Why do you have to be ripe?
Oh, and you can't forget the classic 'Stab me in the Back'! Great at your kid's party!
* I'm having sex
Wishing for six
I'm having sex
Touch me, Make me feel
Knock me out Marry
Get me off Jane
Knock me off Marry
Pet me violently
Can't you give me more to the last?
I can't get enough Take me down
I'm on Junk
I'm getting high
I'm on Junk
Let me go mad
Oh, and what about the equally family-friendly Sex Machineguns? Even their titular song is rife with positive, child-safe lyrics:
Nani mo osoreru koto wa nai
Ore wa itsudemo koko ni iru
Dame de moto moto, yaru shikanai
Omae no chikara de tsukamun da
SEX MACHINEGUN
MAS.TAR.BAY
MAS.TAR.BAY.TION

1. Amber by 311 Album: From Chaos
Hard to explain, kind of a really chill reggae-rock mix.
2. Don't Tread on Me by 311 Album: Don't Tread on Me
Same as above.
3. Halfway by The Moments of Clarity Album: It's a Black and White World
A local band from my area, the song is really light acoustic rock.
4. Beyond the Gray Sky by 311 Album: Evolver
Absolutely no idea for the genere I guess you could consider it rock.
5. Speak Easy by 311 Album: Don't Tread on Me
A really mellow, light rock song.
6. Thank Your Lucky Stars by 311 Album: Don't Tread on Me
Same as above.
7. On the Black Sea by Catch 22 Album: Permanent Revolution
Sort of a ska/rock song with horn instruments to go with the guitar, bass, and drums and stuff.
8. The Spark by Catch 22 Album: Permanent Revolution
A reggae song with horn instruments along with guitar, bass, drums, etc.
9. Three Little Birds by Bob Marley and the Wailers Album: No idea
A pretty awesome reggae song. If it helps, it's the song the jellyfish sang in Shark Tale.
10. Stir it Up by Bob Marley
Just another really awesome reggae song.
If you couldn't tell, I listen to a lot of 311...

Don't diss the Dragonforce! Okay, maybe they're not the greatest, but I like listening to them. Dark and depressing metal is one of the few genres that gets a thumbs-down from me (makes me feel crappy when I listen to it), so Dragonforce is a good compromise.
My list:
1. Still Alive - Jonathan Coulton (44)
2. Hungry Like the Wolf - Duran Duran (41)
3. The Hamsterdance Song - Hampton the Hamster (24)
4. Sandstorm - Darude (23)
5. Caramelldansen - Caramell (22)
6. The Human Race (Pop Goes Classics) - DJ Mitch (22)
(note: I think I got this one from remix.kwed.org - cool old C64 songs remade)
7. Life is a Highway - Rascal Flatts (22)
8. Code Monkey - Jonathan Coulton (18 )
9. Flora's Secret - Enya (17)
10. The Final Countdown - Europe (17)
Play counts aren't that high because I listen to Pandora radio a lot, and I don't know if my iPod is counting right. Anyhoo, I like such a variety of music, it's only fair to go a little further down my list...
11. Back in Time - Huey Lewis and the News (17)
12. Take on Me - A-ha (15)
13. Everlasting God - Lincoln Brewster (15)
14. Kyrie - Mr. Mister (15)
15. We Built This City - Starship (15)
16. Eye of the Tiger - Survivor (15)

I really have no clue how many times I've playes through some songs. Right now, I'm not using the computer I'm syncing my ipod to. We recently got a new computer, and this one didn't take a lot of songs from the other one. Next time my sister has a break from collage she's going to dump what we're missing on here.
Oh yeah, and I LOVE still alive. I don't have it on my ipod, but I wish I did.

I've been keeping an eye on these guys for several years but story is always the same. I really think these guys are very good musicians and composers but the vocalist is just so weak. With a better singer these guys would be huge. They bear such a big resemblance to countrymen Amorphis (who are the best band out of Finland), bring in their former front man Pasi Koskinen would make this band take off. Imagine Vintersorg or Bruce Dickinson as the front man, now you've got a band worth listening to.

My top ten are all from Incubus's Light Grenades album...I'm listening to them a lot because they're new and my highest play count is 11 so, there isn't much diversity.
Cutting out most Light Grenades Songs, this is my list. I'm still keeping the title track because I listen to it much more than the rest of the CD.
"Light Grenades" by Incubus
"Long Division" By Death Cab for Cutie
"Steady as she Goes" and "Hands" by the Raconteurs
"Seven Nation Army", "Black Math", "The Air Near my Fingers", and "I just don't know what to do with myself" by the White Stripes
"Spirit" by the Ceasers
"Kill the Messanger" by Jack's Mannequin
"Stairway to Heaven" and "Rock N' Roll" by Led Zepplin
"Broken Boy Soldier" and Store Bought Bones" By the Raconteurs
Bunch of white stripes songs
"D is for Dangerous" by the Arctic MonkeysMostly, I listen to an entire CD at a time, so most of my favorite albums have every song from them on the list. The rest is just how often certain songs show up on shuffle. If a song is by itself from that artist, it's because I really really like that song.

Reviving this thread in order to get some help from fellow Scapers.
Some of you may know that I am running a half marathon this Saturday in Baltimore, MD, been training all summer (http://http://www.heroscapers.com/community/showthread.php?p=1163043#post1163043).
If not for the music I listen to on my runs, I'm not sure I could do it (gets too boring). That said, I've absolutely killed my my current list of songs, and I'm on the search for new stuff that matches up with what I like to listen too when hitting the hard top (I know there is a ton out there that I've never heard of that I would enjoy).
Just to give you an idea of what I like when running/working out:
Techno/Dance/Electronic
Techo-ized 80s songs:
-You were always on my mind: Pet Shop Boys
-Take on Me - Ah Ha
-I even have a techno version of the Halloween theme
More current stuff:
-The Device has been Modified: Victims of Science
-Russia Privjet: Bass Hunter
-The One that I Want: Deep Spirit
-All I Ever Wanter: Bass Hunter
Metal
-Dig: Mudvayne
-Liberate: Disturbed
If you search for any of this stuff on youtube, you'll get an idea of what I'm looking for, hopefully you guys can help out.

I am definitely not the guy to go to for the techno stuff, but I like to think I have a good variety of metal ideas. You've probably heard a lot of them, but I'm just throwing some out there:
Determined--Mudvayne
Not Falling--Mudvayne
The Enemy--Godsmack
In Ashes They Shall Reap--Hatebreed
Bullet With a Name--Nonpoint
Goin' Down--Three Days Grace
Condemned--As I Lay Dying (AWESOME song)
Adrenaline--12 Stones
Rise Up--Disciple
And a few more that would probably work:
Duality--Slipknot
Before I Forget--Slipknot
Resurrection--Chimaira

I tend to listen to whole abums at a time, so rather than give you most of the track listing for a Rolling Stones album or two, here are the albums that appear highest on my itunes list:
Rolling Stones: Exile on Main Street
Rolling Stones: Sticky Fingers
Lily Allen: It's Not Me, It's You
Broken Family Band: Welcome Home Loser
Gomez: How We Operate
Broken Family Band: Hello Love
The Jim Jones Revue: The Jim Jones Revue
Rolling Stones: Beggars Banquet
Gomez: Liquid Skin
Rolling Stones: Let It Bleed
This computer is probably third or fourth in sources of music I listen to, so I'm not sure this is especially representative (the highest play-count for a single track is 14).

My tastes are pretty eclectic and my playlist swaps constantly based on mood. However, these are the non-album length tracks I have deliberately sought consistently over the years.
"Moonlight Shadow" - Mike Oldfield - Top of the list. There are times where I will listen to this nearly every day over a long stretch.
"I Ran" - A Flock of Seagulls
"Summoning of the Muse" - Dead Can Dance
"Atom Bomb" - Fluke
"Alberich" - Klaus Schulze
"Ricochet, Part 2" - Tangerine Dream
"Ameno (Remix)" - Era
These appear frequently on my playlist, though not as frequently (and I won't provide a full list, but limit to first 10 that pop into my head):
"Gold" - John Stewart
"Dreams" - Deep Dish remix with Stevie Nicks
"Heaven is a Place on Earth" - Belinda Carlisle
"Bayreuth Return" - Klaus Schulze
"Evening Star (Daybreak Mix)" - Robert Scott Thompson
"White Eagle" - Tangerine Dream
"Harden My Heart" - Quarterflash
"Extreme Ways" - Moby
"Oxygene 8" - Jean Michel-Jarre
"En Attendent Cousteau" (the long track, not the entire album) - Jean Michel-Jarre - I turn to this music to soothe and calm me when I have trouble sleeping or have anxiety
