I'm climbing Mt. Whitney on September 15. I plan to take 1 figure along and photograph it sitting next to the Geodetic Survey Marker at the summit. So which figure should I take?

I would have to bring... a Dzu Teh(is that spelled right?), since they are snowy, mountanish sort of creatures.

I almost said that, but I feel for Dund since he is hardly ever drafted.

Well, from what I have seen and read (you older hands, please fill this in), Drake has been the figure that people have taken on their various travels and photographed in places all over the country and world; hence he is known as "Traveling Drake," and would be the figure of choice for this. If you look at the "Traveling Drake" thread in the HeroScape General Discussion section you'll find more info.

No question. No doubt. No other considerations.
'Nuff said.

Oh yeah, that screams out Drake.
If you can, snap a pic of him alone at the top of a high dropoff. (snap from above him looking down, of course)
That's kind of a neat idea, actually. Taking a HS fig along with you to exotic locations and snapping their pic. Too bad the most exotic place I ever go is Huber-tucky. (Dayton area residents will love that joke -- well, maybe not the folks in Huber Heights, but they don't count)

Looks like Drake it will be. Maybe I'll have time to use some paint and bondo and give him a backpack and some trekking poles.

Drake. If you don't take him, there will be an angry mob waiting at the bottom of the mountain to greet you as you climb down.
I should have brought Drake when I went to the Bighorns.

is Drake like the "Roaming Gnome" of Heroscape?
Great idea, BTW.
Of course, if it was in winter, a Dzu-Teh would be thematic.... ;)

I tried to take some pics of "Traveling Drake" back in NYC in May. He's just too damn small to show up, unless you take a macro pic. If so you don;t see the location.

I haven't been training nearly enough. I have a group of 4 friends who also did a cross Grand Canyon Trek in May. I couldn't join them for that because I moved my business and had no time for training. In June they started their high altitude Training by climbing Mt. Baldy. I joined them just for a lark and while I did not get to the summit I surprised myself at how well I did do. I did well enough on subsequent hikes that I thought I had a shot at making it to the summit of Whitney.
Problem is that their permit is for entry and exit at Whitney Portal and they had no extra room on their permit. The quota for their time period is of course completely full. I was able to get a permit for entry at another trailhead. So "officially" I am hiking in by myself to the backcountry on a Sunday at a trailhead 20 miles away, I will "officially" hike down to Whitney Portal on Wednesday to resupply, then I will "officially" go back into the wilderness on Thursday when my friends are entering. Then we will all attempt the summit on Friday and exit on Saturday.
My feet and legs are in OK condition. My problem at this point is stamina. I simply am needing to take many more rest stops and must hike at a slower pace than my friends. Hopefully hitting the trail an hour or two earlier than my friends will get me to the base camp and summit at about the same time. Whitney trail is so busy, I'm not worried about hiking by my lonesome.
Even if I don't make it, I'll prevail on one of them to take Drake to the summit and get a picture.

Drake and I are hitting the road in about 4 hours with Permit in hand. Drake says he don't need no stinkin backpack, trekking poles or water filter. Fine, when he gets Giardia he better not come to me for Pepto Bismol.

Sgt Drake reaches the Whitney summit despite a dastardly sneak attack by Nilfheim. Jtserick and the rest of his squad are forced to retreat in the face of ice storms and howling winds.
I've got much to catch up on at work. Pictures to come later. I'll try to weave them into a cohesive story.

Now that I've figured out how to use the gallery (I think) I'll start to post the record of our summit attempt.
This is what we encountered as we pulled into Lone Pine and headed up Whitney Portal Road.

Well I guess I have figured out the gallery and posting images. Many Thanks Cavalier

Well I thought I'd figured out the gallery and posting images but I guess I haven't. What am I doing wrong?
you are posting links to the page, not the image. You need to find out the exact image files address, which will end in .jpg or such. (right click on the image in the gallery and choose properties....copy the info that ends in the file name and put that between the image tags.
Oh, and as far as I know, bmp (bitmap) files won't work. You need to save the as jpegs, png or gif files (may be others, but I know those work)

Trained on Mt. Baldy, did you? I'm rather familiar with Mt. Baldy. I spent 4 months in Upland and I made at least a monthly trip hiking Mt. Baldy--loved it! Iddylwild was fun too, near Hemet.....of course that was about 15 years ago.
Did Drake enjoy himself?

Drake had a grand old time. Things got a little testy when the mountaineering route split off from the main trail but I'm getting ahead of myself in the narrative...

After our hearty breakfast of meager rations (of which Drake ate more than his share but we did not tell him so) we gathered at the trailhead

We came to a signpost

The cutoff trail for the Mountaineers route was close by. A certain member of our party insisted on taking that trail...

After the next set of baby 10% grade switchbacks (just a mere 500 foot climb in 1 mile) it was time for a lunch break.

We admired the free flowing waterfall as we dropped our packs, put up our feet and ate our tuna and trail mix.

Drake was strangely interested in markings on the rocks near the waterfall.

"Look like frakkin talon scratches" Drake muttered
