EDIT by funrun: I merged similar older topics with this one, which pushed my instructions a few posts down the page, so please scroll.
Hi, I photoshopped a small funny (at least I think it's funny) photo that I wanted to display under my signature for posts, but am not sure how to set this up.

You can go to the gallery and sign up. After that go to upload file and browse for the pic.
After you put it in your folder select the image and right click. Scroll down to properties and highlight the address/URL and copy.
Then go to your profile and scroll down until you see Signature. You will paste the URL between brackets and vuala'
If that doesn't work you could beg a MOD, :D

How do I put images on my posts?

The image must be on the web (not just on your computer). You can upload an image to the Gallery here or to a photo hosting location such as Photobucket.com (http://photobucket.com/). Once the image is on the web you simply type {img}web address here{/img}. Replacing the { } with [ ] and the "web address here" with the respective address of the image such as your avatar's web address of http://www.heroscapers.com/community/images/avatars/135761016244d686cea4a26.gif
The result is:
http://www.heroscapers.com/community/images/avatars/135761016244d686cea4a26.gif

Well we used to have an "add image" feature underneath post text boxes, but it appears to have been taken out (temporarily?) for testing our impact on server load (read thread: A few changes (http://www.heroscapers.com/community/showthread.php?t=2027).) Some people have since PMed me about how to add an image now, so in this post I will cover all the current ways to post an image.
If the image is already located online. . .
1. Right click on the image and select something along the lines of "copy image path or url or address."
2. In the posting text box, type "" without the quotes.
3. Paste (Ctl+V) to insert that copied image address right after the closing bracket.
4. Close the img tag by typing "" without the quotes.
If you quote this post, you will see this code in use here to insert this image.
http://www.heroscapers.com/community/templates/subSilver/images/housemousegamesLG.gif
If the image is NOT already located online. . .
1. You need to get it online, so (if you haven't already) go register for an account in our Gallery (http://www.heroscapers.com/oldgallery) area.
2. Upload your images using the options in your Gallery account.
3. Once your image is submitted and has its own page like this one (http://www.heroscapers.com/oldgallery/displayimage.php?album=286&pos=10), right click on the center image there and follow the steps in the section above.

O.k. I tried to put a picture in a comment for my map Upheaval and the [img] thing didn't work so I took them off. I just wanted to add a thumbnail to it. Is there any way to do that?

Are you referring to a thread here or to the downloads section? For the downloads, I'm not sure.
For a thread here, you have to have a thumbnail version of the image available. For instance, if it is in the HS gallery, use the preview thumbnail and get the properties for that.

I've figured out images, quotes and all the basics, but how do I put an image (or anything else) in a spoiler box?
Does putting an image in a spoiler box mean that the browser does not load the image until after the spoiler box is opened?
~just looking for some help here, legoboy

Copy and paste that and it will look like this:

The broswer still loads everything at once. The only difference is, the page doesn't stretch and do all kinds of weird things as your browser loads the images. It makes the thread a lot easier to navigate, basically.

Okay, I have some pictures I'd like to upload to the gallery. I don't want bandwidth to be an issue.
Is there a suggested file size/limit for pictures? How large (file size, not picture dimensions) is too large?
Any suggested programs to use to shrink a picture's file size down?

First, to upload pics here, you need to be a site supporter (http://www.heroscapers.com/community/payments.php).
I do not know what the max filesize here is but there is no max resolution but all pics under a certain size (I think 640 width) get stretched down within posts to avoid clutter (but it does not reduce bandwith, just space on a page).
To reduce size, you can use practically any image program and just resave the file, changing compression options to lower quality if possible. In MS Paint you can do Image\Stretch\Skew and select the same % for height and width to shrink, but there is no compression options.
GIMP or Paint.NET (Google them) are the best free image editing programs and allow you to finetune compression.
If it is not a picture but graphic, such as Card image or Map printout, save as PNG to lower filseize while maintaining integrity.

Or a contributor (http://www.heroscapers.com/community/showthread.php?t=25224);) I don't know about you guys, but I respect a Contributor over a Site Supporter(both are good, I just feel hard work deserves a little more respect). Of course anyone who is both is better. Becoming both is probably worth the additional respect though;)
