As a clergyman who often finds himself involved in court adjudicated disputes, I'd absolutely agree on the Rod of Negotiation and its sibling, the Rod of Renegotiation!

Poisonous Acid Breath. It's the best instant kill in the game, having the chance to take out stalwarts like the Sentinels, Minions, or Microcorp instantly. Usually, I can take out 6 to 9 units before Braxas dies.
A close second would be the Rod of Negation. I've probably negated less people than I've 20'd. In one game I 20'd two units and Negated another one. That was nice, saving up those Negation Markers.

Me too! Hilarious! Well let's look at it this way. If he negates you, you're out of your special abilities. If you dont' back off then, he's going to attempt the 20 death on you! Mediating? okay maybe more like intimidating.
Mine is Marro Plague.
Then Scatter, Paralyzing Stare, Frenzy.
But MVP ability overall is Bonding!

I love to pick off squad members without them being able to defend against me. Deadeye Dan was a total all-star for me in my last game.

He does have a fun ability! I need to try him while defending a castle. That's when the fun really begins.

Can't believe Mindshackle hasn't come up yet! I love having NGS on the board. His presence changes the whole game.
Yeah, other abilities are more reliable (poisonous acid breath, chomp) but for some reason I still keep coming back to Mindshackle. Brilliant when it works. Guess I'm a gambler....

Deadly strike. There's a reason Hero's fear to tread on my board
Disengage might be my next favorite. Nothing cooler than a little mobility.
Of course, this thread is about favorite powers, so you have to disassociate the power from the unit.
Sword of reckoning. I think more units should carry one of those bad boys. Imagine the 5th mass, armed with Bayonettes of Reckoning!

Definately mindshackle as my favorite though followed closely by the counterstrike and the new ninja disappear ability.
Though I am suprised no one has said bonding yet.

Theres a differnce between best because it works more than others vs best because its a cool concept.
In rating both Id haffta say MBS paralysing gaze is best in concept, cant beat no defense dice for your opponent.
For best because it works often/well I would say double attack.
And not to be a smart arse but Flying (it IS a special ability), I lean heavy toward flying units in most draft or scenerio situations, especially Saylind as previously mentioned.

I was ignored by a limerick last time I asked so I'll ask it again....
Isn't there a difference between a Special Ability and a Special Attack? I ask because a lot of people are listing what are in my mind attacks and not abilities.
LilNewbie
August 29th, 2006, 11:20 AM
Good question, MW. They are different since a special attack follows normal rules for being able to attack adjacent units, et al and special abilities don't. But some special abilities aren't attack focused (flying, auras, etc.) and all special attacks are. Hmmm...
Maybe Special Attacks should be considered a subset of Special Abilities that have a more restricted ruleset?

I agree, nothing is better then the frenzy roll, with the others you basically get one shot /turn, not the frenzy, nothing is better then rolling 3 or more frenzies in one turn, nothing better for cutting the game short also.
The new dragons do get the 3 attacks which is great which is great,
2nd maybe marro plague

Depends on weather you hurt yourself or not, or better yet are you trying to hurt yourself?
Special ability
Hobknobbing my self -1st you must roll the d20, if all goes well then any male foe in line of sight who sees this must roll the d20
D20 roll for the Hobknobber
1 and its a bleeder, something terrible has gone wrong, take 1 wound
2 ouch, throw you back out and you can not try another hobknobber for the rest of the game
3 the enemy likes you a little to much and asks to give you a hand
4-19 all goes well, have any human males in LOS roll on teh next chart
20 Your doing such a good job add 5 to any roll for a human male
1-10 nothing happens
11-15 all human males in LOS stare in disbelief and jelousy and can not attack or defend for the rest of the turn
16-19 your enemy runs away ( must move 3 spaces away from the hobknobber, and you take any disengage attacks )
20- Your enemy starts clapping and asks if you give classes ( people clapping can never attack the hobknobber )
I am not even going to go into the rolls for women, aliens, or beasts
You think that is a great sp. ability , just wait till you start going out with girls, your whole world will change

here's two clues that let you know for sure. Are you in there more than 30 min? Does your mom have to knock on the door and ask what your doing in there? Does dad leave a nice selection of inappropriate material on the back of the toilet? Do you find yourself having to go "potty" every 30 min.
You be the judge.

No ( but I don't find the bathroom a particulary fun and sexy place )
No (I haven't lived w/ mom for about 25 years)
Yes ( but only after my mom moved out )
Normally no, but if I was driking an awful lot yea I could se it happening
Me be the Judge - wow I get to be a judge and I never finished college ( in my defense I did go for 7 year and it was a great party - I am close to a few degrees but my focus at the end was glass blowing and a degree really wouldn't do anything for me, plus I bought land and started a kayaking company in Costa Rica when I was in college and Costa Rica just seemed a lot funner then finishing school )

Everytime we draft, the one that changes everything is Sudema with her Stare of Stone.
I personally have no luck with it. My friend on the other hand lights me up with her.
Taking out both Charos and Jotun in the last game :verymad:
I was rolling around :jotun: and then instant death.
Both on the first roll. I would say that it was luck, but he does that everytime.

I like the disappearing ability that the NotNW. It is so annoying for my opponent and i can get around the board quicker.
By the way , it's a little off topic but do you ignore elevation when you do that special. :?: Also do you have to stop in water. :?: We have argued over this point many times.

This should answer your question:
If you want the official answer.
BTW, not sure if this has been posted already but this is from the official Heroscape FAQ on Heroscape.com:
Are the movement values listed in the special power section of the cards (Like Shaolin Monk's Stealth Leap) affected by enhancements (road, glyphs, etc)?
No, they are not affected by enhancements; they are static move values that cannot increase. However, if you are passing over terrain that would normally limit your movement (snow/ice/water for example), you are still bound by those rules.
Newb.
If you want my explanation on why they don't get the road bonus.
Move = the number on a figs Army Card.
From the RttFF rulebook
"Moving on Road Spaces: When moving on road spaces, count each space as a normal space. However, if your figure's entire move consists of road spaces, including the starting space, you may add an additional 3 spaces to your figure's move. The 3 additional spaces must also be on road spaces."
The road bonus modifies the move number on a figs card. The Movement Bonding, Scatter, and Disappearring Ninja abilities do not use the move number on the figs card (movement bonding just happens to be the same). They use a number of spaces specified in the text of an ability so, therefore are not modified by the road bonus.
Terrain restrictions and elevation do not change the number of spaces a fig can theoretically move. They change the number of spaces required to enter that space. A g'nator moving through heavy snow can still move 7 spaces but each heavy snow hex counts as 2 spaces. If the same g'nator is moving up a level, the side of the hex counts as 1 space. The g'nator still moved 7 spaces but, just didn't move 7 hexs away from his starting hex.
So, if you didn't get all that, I said Movement Bonding, Scatter, and Disappearring Ninja are not affected by road or wallwalk bonuses and are affected by elevation and heavy snow, etc.
Newb.

I played Retiarius last night for the first time (w/o Spartacus) and I learned to love his Net Trip. He came in after my opponent was engaged and cleaned house. Minions were tied up with Sentinels and my boy Retiarius made their 6 defense only 1 defense once for a kill and killed another simply with his 5 attack. He also rendered a Deathstalker outright with his 5 attack and killed a couple Deathreavers as well while reducing one of their defense to 1 with his net trip. This is w/o taking a wound. His cleanup role was sweet. Fortunately, my Nakitas took care of the opponents' range, so Retiarius didn't have to worry about that, nor did he have to contend with Braxas or Sudema types, but I had fun with him anyway.

frenzy frenzy frenzy frenzy frenzy...
I would also have to say Frenzy! A couple nights ago I frenzied 3 times in a row with EOVs and took out my enemy's Venocs and Microcorp Agents, 2 whole squads. It's just a cool ability imagining things getting really fired up and going for the kill again.
My second one would have to be Brunak's Blood Hungry Special Attack. It's the same attack as his normal and it just sounds really really cool!
Third is the Elite Airborne's grenade toss. It's pretty weak with only 2 attack sure...but it's cool because you don't have to have line of sight. I decimated AmishBurrito's army with it in our first little 1 on 1 while he was still in his start zone .
