GaryLASQ hosted an IL-WI Border Game at his Rockton location, we had 2 games one upstairs & one downstairs. GaryLASQ setup the map upstairs, they split up two teams with GaryLASQ, GLASpencerQ and mathguy vs. nwojedi, langfordrocks and GLASpencerQ's friend. I’m not sure who won that game. I took some shoots of that game.

Djsmith designed the map downstairs; we split up in two teams of Josh-n-papa combo & Joah vs. Djsmith & me (jdtenor).

Djsmith's map. It had two separate maps one fire, one ice. They connected though a random teleport (two on each map). Each team started on one side & had to collect a relic and bring it back to your starting zone to win the game.

http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m73/jdtenor/ilwi27.jpg

I played offense, while Djsmith played defense. I summoned Q9 to the teleport & teleported to the other side. Josh-n-papa summoned Nilfheim to engage Q9. Q9 engaged Saylind before it got away, in the following two rounds Q9 killed Nilfheim, Saylind & a Knight, until Mr. Happy (Q9) went down. (no pic :( )
In the meantime Djsmith set up defensively.
Protecting our relic.

Joah protecting their relic.
http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m73/jdtenor/ilwi31.jpg
I then teleported Syvaris and Dead Eye. Syvaris killled a EOV a squad of Warriors of Ashra, one Knight and two Deathreavers, before both Syvaris & Dan were killed.
http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m73/jdtenor/ilwi34.jpg

Josh-n-papa manage to teleport 3 Knight & a Deathreaver, Djsmith Microcopts took care of them, while I teleported the KRAV MAGA to interrupt there offensive move.

http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m73/jdtenor/ilwi42.jpg
The Nikita agents killed My KRAV. So I sent in Saylind to get the relic, after the 3rd attempt she got the artifact and attempted to escape, before Papa’s “Pony of Death” killed a full life Saylind and a squad of Mirocorps. I was out. (Great rolling Papa) :x
http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m73/jdtenor/ilwi45.jpg

“The Pony of Death” went on to kill the rest of the Microcorp, before being killed by Djsmith Sentinel. Papa was out, Djsmith sent in a squad of DZU-THE, only to get shot down by Nikitas (not before taking one of them). It went down to Josh one Nikita & one Gorrillinator. Djsmith took them down both with his Roman Archers. Game over we won!

We did play a second game Half map Josh & Djsmith vs. Papa & me. Of course we won! :D

Don't forget to add your version of the battle. Becuase this is my version, and i'm sticking with it!

it was great to finally get six players on that map since it was built for six. i ended up only adding in one Tundra and one Castle set. i already knew several days ago where i wanted to put the tundra, but the castle was unexpected since i just scored some on Saturday, so i just put a small neutral one in the corner and as a result not much happed on it other than my son's AE dropping on it and the opposing team staying clear of them while the AEs sat and waited and waited and...

i didn't take as many pics as i thought i did. was too engrossed in the game i guess.

my son's AE got the round 1 drop on the castle. that's all it took to keep the enemy away from it. nwojedi also had AE that dropped on round 3 (i think) and he placed one of them on the castle and three elsewhere. but he didn't get decent initiative and most were destroyed before they could do anything.

mathguy and i teamed up with nothing but Gladiatron/Blastatron firepower plus X17 in his army and Q9 in mine. i had the first turn in round 1 so i took the brunt of enemy fire with my figs out on the front line early and trying to hold a couple of glyphs in the river.
http://heroscape.glasq.com/online/20060827/2006082709.jpg

mathguy working out all the angles :)
he and i ate up the clock while trying to coordinate moving 8 figs each turn. we basically did markers 1,2,3 every round on our Blastatrons with their Gladiatron Movement Bonding.

http://heroscape.glasq.com/online/20060827/2006082711.jpg

this is what really hurt...an opponent's Nilfheim landing on a summoning glyph and bringing my Q9 down low for some ice shardness. surprisingly he survived the 4-skull roll with a decent 4-out-of-7 shield roll. what finally brought him down was two turns of 4thMass fire from nwojedi. my Q9 spent the game rolling defense dice instead of attack dice :(
http://heroscape.glasq.com/online/20060827/2006082712.jpg

and a couple pics of langfordrocks' army. he and my son started in the far corners and didn't see as much action early in the game.

but langfordrocks did his best to stand tall on the highest point in the map (other than the upper wallwalk on the castle) by himself with his teammates out of the game.

i'll be back to this thread with more comments on the game...

I too was too engrossed in the game to take any other pics. (Besides, I was too busy moving so many robots!)

Gary already posted some high/low-lights while I was typing this up...

Our team (near side) consisted of
GLASpencerQ (AE, EOV, Saylind, Aubrien Archers x 3),
GaryLASQ (Q9, Blastatrons x3, Gladiatrons x2),
mathguy (X17, Blastatrons x3, Gladiatrons x3)
vs.
nwojedi (AE, 4th mass, Marcus, Sir Hawthorne, Deathreavers, DeadEyeDan, Theracus)
GLASpencerQ's friend (Nilfheim, DW9K, Microcorps x2)
langfordrocks (Q9, Deathreavers x2, Krav Maga, DeadEyeDan, DeathStalkers).

Yes, Gary and I were guilty of analyzing too much when moving our 8 figures (4 blastatrons + 4 gladiatrons) on our turns. Sorry. :-)

Some highlights (from memory, not guaranteed to be 100% accurate):

1st round:
Our team's AE dropped on the 1st turn, so the castle belonged to us.
Theracus brings up a rat and captures a defense glyph.
The other rats also scamper down the right side of the map towards glyphs.
Our team essentially gave up on the right side of the map.
Blastrons with gladiatrons as homing devices killed Theracus and the rat.
Nilfheim invades our territory and summons our Q9 (see Gary’s pic).
The 4th mass gets off one volley on Q9. Miraculously no damage to Q9 from these big attacks.

2nd round:
Our team loses all initiative.
Nilfheim attacks our Q9 - no damage.
The 4th mass attacks Q9, and Q9 dies. And loses a turn marker. Q9 never got off a shot because Gary had 1st initiative in Round #1 but last initiative in Round #2.
Our blastrons and gladiatrons retaliate and wound Nilfheim badly, but Nilfheim is then summoned to safety and fully healed.
And many gladiatrons and blastatrons die in the process (thanks to Nilfheim and the 4th mass). Things look a little grim, but there are still plenty of robots left...

3rd round:
Nwojedi’s AE finally dropped. But unluckily they did not get good initiative so were not as effective.
Our blastatrons and gladiatrons duked it out with the 4th mass and Microcorps. The 4th mass lose 3 guys, the Microcorp lose a couple (no luck on Stealth armor).
Deadeyedan, Marcus, Sir Hawthorne get locked down and become target practice for Blastatrons.
Q9 comes up and picks off a few robots.

4th round:
DW9K gets off one explosion attack, minimal damage.
Marcus and Sir Hawthorne continue to be target practice, but they live on stubbornly.
Nilfheim returns to attack X17 and other robots.
With two homing devices on Nilfheim, a few Blastatrons fire away.
Meanwhile Q9 tries to kill a gladiatron on a key defense +1 glyph. But the gladiatron miraculously survives. This helps the homing devices to survive the attacks by Nilfheim.
Q9 instead moves on to attack Gary’s glyphless robots and kills a bunch.
In one key activation of my blastatrons, 4 skulls out of 4 dice were rolled on Nilfheim and kills Nilfheim. 4 skulls out of 4 dice were rolled on Q9 and Q9 rolls zero shields and Q9 is killed. Ouch.

5th round:
DW9K is attacked by one EOV but lives.
3 rats try attacking the EOV and two whiff but the 3rd kills the EOV from height disadvantage! This lets DW9K explosion attack a group of 4 of Gary’s robots, killing all 4 of them. Ouch. Gary is now down to 3 blastatrons.
Marcus and Sir Hawthorne finally die. Nwojedi is now down to three rats, which sort of protect DW9K by preventing too many homing devices attaching to it.
Gladiatrons and Blastatrons begin suicide homing device runs against DW9K, but only one can attach at a time thanks to the rats. And each time gets killed by one of the rats after usage. DW9K survives each attack until on a roll of 2 skulls, DW9K rolls zero shields.
The Krav and DeadeyeDan take pot shots at robots.

6th round:
The rats flee. One of these rats finally kill the gladiatron that was sitting on the +1 defense glyph. Nwojedi’s rats eventually die, knocking him out of the game.
Spencer’s friend’s Microcorps eventually died and so he was knocked out of the game as well. (They only rolled one successful Stealth Armor out of 7 tries; that’s actually not that unlikely. But the last one was actually killed by an adjacent Blastatron with 1 attack.)
An EOV was "traded" for a Krav Maga.

7th round:
One group of 2 gladiatrons makes the long trek up to the remaining 2 Krav Maga and DeadeyeDan. These two gladiatrons roll amazing defense to survive the 5 attack from the KM (height + attack glyph). They clamp them down. The aurbrien archers finally join the fight.

8th round:
Despite having a +8 initiative glyph, langfordrocks ends up going last out of the remaining 4 players.
The locked down KM eventually fall to Gary's 2 remaining blastatrons (what teamwork...), and the rats were down to just two (on 2 glyphs – using their musical chairs scattering ability). We decided to call it a game at that point, with just 2 rats, DeadEyeDan, and 3 Deathstalkers in one player’s army vs 3 players (Spencer had full squad of AE, Saylind, 1 EOV, 6 archers; Gary had 2 blastatrons; and I had X17, 3 gladiatrons, and 6 Blastatrons and control of the two defense +1 glyphs.) The 2 rats would soon be killed by the archers, DED had robots surrounding him, and the wolves were still back home. We decided it was no contest at that point. Besides, it 7pm by then.

Great game. Great map. Great teammates and opponents.
Like I said in the other thread, I had a blast[atron].

Edited to include Gary's last 2 blastatrons' glorious action.

nice write up mathguy! and great memory - i don't remember seeing you writing stuff down during the game...

i was down to 2 blastatrons by the end of round 7 BUT with your gladiatrons holding onto langfordrocks' KM Agents, it allowed me to use my blastatrons to kill off his last 2 agents. this is an example of the power of teamplay synergy!!

Woah! Those games were awesome! I can't believe it's not butter... I mean, I can't believe how many figures were on those boards at once. Great pictures that really show gargantuan battles.

I like that MathGuy was powering the robot army. Math and robots seem like the perfect match! A symphony of destruction. 0101010101010101

Oh yes, I thought that was funny that your last 2 blastatrons which were staying away from the KMA (because they were trying to knock out a player) eventually were able to come back to shoot and kill the KMA because I had them locked them. Teamwork indeed. I gotta edit that into the battle recap.

Yes, those were used for initiative order.

By the way, until we were down to 4 players in the 7th round, I was always #5 or #6 in initiative! And often it was me #5 and Gary at #6; but that actually worked out well sometimes. I would move my gladiatrons in as homing devices and then both me and Gary would fire away with our blastatrons. This worked out well since Gary had lost most of his gladiatrons relatively early.

We also played that we just went in order of initiative rolls. I must say that that worked out just fine. I usually play each team decides the order within the team and then the teams roll initiative as a group and the order then alternates. This interleaved method allows for more within-a-team strategy. For example, when the AE dropped later, this method would have given them a better chance of surviving in enemy territory. However, the everyone-rolls-initiative-individually has its merits too. You can do some interesting combinations if team members go in a row. In our game for example, a rat was able to eliminate the figure engaging DW9K and it happened to be DW9K's turn next so that he could explosion attack away. This would not have been possible if one of us had a turn in between to re-engage DW9K. But I digress.

post-its are good for both initiative order and for tearing off pieces of the sticky edge to help mark starting zones. in the pics, you can see some of the startzone scraps that didn't get pulled off right after armies were placed.

Thanks for the great game guys! and thanks for hosting Gary.

Josh and I had a good time.
Josh found a kindred spirit in DJsmith,I was ready to concede the first game when Josh was down to one nikita, one gorilla, and I think he had one knight left.DJ and Josh are like "no way,it aint over till the last figure dies a gruesome death" I swear Josh wouldn't give up if he was down to 1 Tarn Viking against 2 squads of Minions.
I think we could have done better in the scenario if Nilf hadn't gone down so early(damn that Q9!!!).
The second game was going quite well until me and Josh had to leave.Mama would not heve been very happy if I had got Josh home any later.I was really glad I got to try out the Gladiators and I think they did really well, espicially with JDtenor's Saylind summoning them into position to put the hurt on DJ's Saylind and Sargeant Drake,I managed to get Spartacus over and take down Dund.Unfortunately not before Dund used the Stare on Q9 and lost us 3 order markers(ouch!!)
Josh was just getting his swarm of knights into the thick of the battle by that time and my Gladiators were bleeding and limping,So I can't really say who would have won.
Anyway ,Thanks for the game

Thanks for the great game guys! and thanks for hosting Gary.you're welcome. glad you and josh could make it.

i was hoping both maps would get in two games. i know the second game on the downstairs map was scaled down to try to make it a quick one but still there was just not enough time.

both of the first games went on for a very long time. i had a feeling they might. with each player having 520 points and 5 or 6 player in a game...that's a lot of figs to kill.

we rolled the d20 to see who would be on which map. decided that 1 to 15 went on my map and 16 to 20 went on DJ's map. surprizingly, the first 6 players who rolled all rolled under 16.

i felt bad that you guys had an odd number of players. i know DJ's scenario called for 6 players. how did you compensate for this, btw?

i guess what we could have done upstairs for 5 players would be to put 1 player's start zone in the castle. then 2 players act as one team and 2 more act as another team.

It was no problem.

Josh and I played as 1 until Joah had to leave, then I took over what was left of his army.

Jd and Dj were great guys to play against,I'm really glad we got to meet them and play against them.We would play against them anytime. They are pretty laid back and easygoing, they just seemed to be more interested in having fun than worrying about winning.Although Jd was pretty pleased with the havok his Q9 was wreaking on us,but the "pony of death" got a little of that back for us.

By contrast, I think it only took one shot from one blastatron with height and one homing device to kill the pony in our upstairs game.
