Anybody else hear about this? I helped out my sister who was running a book fair at her children's school and it was one of seven schools picked to get to release the first book in the series before everywhere else.
I promoted the thing so much while I was helping that I ended up reading it and I found it to be a pretty enjoyable story if a bit on the shorter side since it's written with the 8-14 year old market in mind.
The thing that's kind of out there about this book series (it's due to be a 10 book run) is that each book will be written by a different author so that they can release a new book for the series every three months.
On top of that there's a bunch of cash prizes in the contest that's tied directly into the series. There's clues to be found in the books themselves, collectable trading cards that also have clues, and a website where more clues can be earned as well.
Grand prize is $10,000 but there's an age restriction that says you have to have turned six but not fifteen by the end of December this year to be eligible. I thought that was pretty cool since the puzzles and games aren't that difficult for an adult.
I've already collected a bunch of cards and I'm looking forward to the next book. I know I can't win, but it's just a fun little thing to do in playing along (which the website will let you do...you just can't win any of the prize money).
If anybody else has heard of this or is actually involved in it, I'd love to hear thoughts, theories, and hopes for future books....the forums I found that discusses it the most isn't even close to being as nice and neat as this place is.
p.s. If anybody wants a synopsis of the story, just let me know and I'll put one up.
