well ok, im looking to get into this game, but im kinda worried i've tried other games like hero clix and stuff but it was to complicated and i got out of it really fast...me and my brother are looking in to purchasing the master set and an expansion...but is it worth it? i've played the demo on the site it isnt to hard so im not worried about that, but is it easy to get sick of? is it not as fun to play if there isnt alot of poeple into it around you? and are they always comming out with newer characters to use? so you can buy more and have a varity? well thanks for the help! i'll appreciate it.

This game is totally worth it! It's not nearly as complicated as Heroclix and can even be played at a very easy, introduction level before you move onto making full use of the characters special powers. Hasbro has been releasing new expanision, steadily, since they introduced the game in late 2005, so you won't lack for variety. Plus, with the "build and battle" terrain, you can build endless amounts of battlefields to fight on. So I say jump right in. You won't regret it. :!:

It has been out for almost 2 years now. The game is well supported and has scheduled releases coming soon. There are always bargains to be found also so I would say go for it.

you can wait for the Toys R us buy 1 get 1 free sales. You'll want 2 master sets so you can build bigger maps. Period. No question. If you ever liked legos or lincoln logs, you'll enjoy building the maps almost as much, if not more than, playing the game.

I keep hoping to see a set at Value Village (thrift store) from some sorry sap family that just didn't get the idea. But then again, I already have 5 master sets.

heroscape. the masterset alone is well worth the $40. if at all possible, try and get the Wal*mart exclusive one (you may or may not find it, depending on where you live. theres people that got them for 5 bucks on clearance.) for the cost of the regular MS, you get an additional squad, which is always good.

then you get into the expansions. 10 bucks at wal mart/target. 12 at toys are us. i havent seen HS anywhere else. they are not packaged randomly, so you dont have to waste money hunting for a specific figure, like in mage knight. They also make other terrains with special effets: Road gives you an additional 3 movement, while lava inflicts damage if you stay on it too long. The newest terrain is snow, and although i do not have it yet and do not know the rules fully, i believe it slows your movement down.

then, in june/july, they are planning on releasing a fortress set, which is featured on the home page (heroscape.com) if it is not down.

you will want a minimum of 2 master sets, although a single MS is enough for some small games. the MS comes with everything you need to play out of the box, including 30 (33 if you get the WM exclusive) pre painted (pretty good job too) figures and their cards, a decent amount of terrain, and instructions on about 5 or so pre built fields.

we havent even touched on the customs you can make. Heroscape si so versatile. you can take those figures you have from hero-clix (of you still ahve any) and convert them over to heroscape. i'm not too big on customs, so i'm not teh best one to tell you about them. ask truth or oogie_da_bruce.

hope you decide to go pro-heroscape. we could always use the input you have to give.

It's an addiction. Once you open your first Master Set, you'll be driving around for hours looking for new expansions. You'll start checking www.hasbro.com 75 times a day waiting for an update. You'll start to fantasize about castles and argue over shields or skulls. You'll put wound markers on your kids instead of band-aids. You'll take the 20 sider to work and make your co-workers roll for initiative to see who goes to lunch first...Don't do it!

Of course it is worth it. I got it for my 14th birthday last year, I didn't even know what it was, so I opened it and fell in love.
And since then, I have EVERY SINGLE EXPANSION.
Yes, I do believe the game is worth it.
And I love the wound markers instead of bandaids and 20 sided die thing. Hahaha.

Welcome and let me say it's easy to get people hooked on this game. The rules are very streamlined and the game play is excellent. Plus all the cool terrain and who doesn't like the idea of Dragons fighting WWII Airborne and Samurai fighting Cowboys. It's all good and the best part is the game is fun with whatever you buy (as long as a Master set is purchased for rules, dice, etc.) You can slowly add expansions as time and money allow or just stop with whatever makes you happy. It's one of the best gaming investments I've ever made and believe me there have been many gaming investments over the years. :D Once again, welcome to the site.

Well, I have to say I was a BIG skeptic at first. Then I played.

This is the part of the post where I insert some appropriate expletive, but there are none that can capture the sheer emotion. Instead I leave it to your imagination.

My cousin had a few sets, so I didn't have to have a master set of my own to play with him. I actually bought the Forest and two expansions before I got my own Master set :D I am still working on having a complete collection, but to my mind that includes multiples of the Drones and Minions to take advantage of the drone swarm ability...

Anyway, that part of your post has been answered already. Is it fun with few opponents?

Yes. Have a skirmish every few days and test out strategies. At this stage you should only be thinking about varying armies (and scenario goals) instead of varying opponents influencing your strategy anyway. If you are any kind of normal person, you probably have friends (or at least acquaintances). Tell them you got a new game and you want them to just "try it out" with you. Make an afternoon of it and drink plenty of beverages appropriate to your age level (soda, beer...Ensure). I guarantee that anyone who likes board games will be willing to at least give it a second try. In no time at all they will be bowing at your feet, asking where they can find a master set of their own.

This is actually very similar to how it spread where I live. In a town of about 2000 people, we are approaching 20 households (that our group *knows* of) that have HeroScape. This is from a zero population a little over a year ago. Have fun, and good luck recruiting!

Peronally I find the demo lame on the heroscape.com site. It's basically played on a 2D Map, you have hardly anoyne to select, and it is the Basic Rules, thereby eliminating the best part of the game-the special abilities.

The game itself is amazing. I'd recommed it to anyone and everyone that enjoys games

Don't let the fanatics dissuade you about cost! Having one master set and no expansions is a perfectly good way to play! Of course if you get hooked you might spend more, but you can keep it in check because you know what you are buying.

I reccomend just getting one master set. Play it. See if you like it.

After that, see about getting expansions.
I reccomend picking up one of the large heroes packs as a good first step, then some 'regular' Heroes packs. They'll add the most variety to your army for the least amount of dough.

I'm in New boston. Where exactly is hell in a box?

Yes the game is fun with two players and with a group. more than 6 players on one board gets a little clunky and slow IMO.

Hell in a Box = Nashua
New Boston? Ooh, you guys got hit bad by the flooding, didn't you? I mean, school in New Boston was cancelled today, but here in Nashua, nothing interesting happens, which is why I seek hapiness in...
Heroscape and Nintendo.
I always play one on one. One person gets Jandar and Ullar armies, the other gets Utgar, Einar, and Vydar.
Its always fun.

I grew up in Nashua. We used to just call it Nausea. My cousin still lives there and we play often.

We got hit a bit but not nearly as bad as Goffstown. The Piscadaquag(not sure that's spelled right) river runs right through the center of town.

Hahaha, that was hilarious. Who is your cousin? I think I know, because on HQ we were sending messages back and forth about where we go for gaming.
That sucks... my friend lives by the Merrimack and his house is almost underwater...

Well I'm sorry but I'm sure you don't know as he has never become a member of the HQ and is not much for web browsing in general. He really just plays HS with me and people I know who are into it. He is primarily a video gamer and R/C hobbist.

This is such a cool game definately buy it, there are so many combos in it like what chracters to use, one of the trillions of reasons is that there are characters form all sorts of times, creatures, and sizes, while games like mage knight focus on the magic and fantasy realm this game has, realistic figures such as army men, musket men, vikings, and the list goes on forever, anyways the point is this game rocks. :nkick:
