Ironically, Aazh, I also won two games and lost three... but came in last thanks to a couple snafus (not by DMG - long and bizarre story, but funny). Which, I am sorry to say, was NOT my worst showing ever. However, I got both the things I wanted off the table, since MiniMax came in fifth and then gave the prize to me because he couldn't find anything at Wargamers HQ that he wants. I, on the other hand, could spend a grand without batting an eye.

I agree that lunch was a rip. I got half a sandwich and one glass of lemonade before they hauled it all away. I thought bottomless meant you got to get more.

Thank you R˙chean.

Today was such a blast.

Getting there early, I actually got to see some of how hard you worked to make it happen.

You did a great job.

I have much more to say--mainly about Tmac and Dignan and the great game I had against Kurisenshi and the crap game against Rod...

But mainly thanks for so much fun, R˙chean.

And I totally don't understand how I never get credit for winning NonGenCon I--Heat of Battle. I won that, R˙chean, Waaaay before MyBroInLaw won anything....

Crap game! I won that game bahahaha though it was those 3 shots to kill braxis that took that game. otherwise it would have been a massacre..

Rych, geez man maybe one day....isna that the same army ye brought to the last tournament? and the Krav's still died even with no Q9...

Pablo, good game man though that mask did freak me out at first...one of those wtf is up with that dude kinda things.

Hooters!! hahaha that was fun, though poor guy(pablo's bro?) got burnt by the blonde gal waitress...man we'll have to do that again sometime.
to the drives ie pablo and cheddar cheers!!! I know I couldna drive/ride afterwards

cheers

A rare moment of glory for Drlivingston as he gloats over Kuri's dead AE. Very few pictures would show DrL doing anything else well.

Best DFW Tourney EVAR!

I settled on:
Zelrig
Niflheim
3x Rats
Marro Warriors

...in lieu of 4xAubriens/Taelord/Raelin, the all-melee gruts, and the Anubian/Khosumet/Badru armies. I enjoy the versatility of the dragons and felt that that aspect would outweigh the risk of putting most of my points in 2 figures. I was wrong.

I went 3-2, with both of my losses coming down to losing Nilf early on a few bad rolls and Zelrig just not having the moxey to stand on his own.

Best Moment: Winning against Mike's Zelrig and Cyprien with nothing but my rats and a very handy Glyph of Wannok left. To be fair, he says he wasn't taking off Cyprien's wounds when he'd kill a rat, but I forgot he wasn't supposed to be using Chilling Touch on them so I call that a wash.

Worst Moment: Losing Nilfheim in the opening OM of round 2 to a different Cyprien in my final game. Stupid Chilling Touch. I'd had all my OM's on Nilf so he got a free round and ended up with Cyprien in my starting zone. I never had a chance.

Best Non-HS Moment: Realizing I was getting away with WAY more than my $20 worth of loot. The shirt alone was worth $20 to me.

Worst Non-HS Moment: Sitting only a table away from a raucous DrL who had a tendency to scream a the top of his lungs in a very, very small room. Fortunately, I didn't have to play him because I'd already threatened to set his Braxas on fire if I did.

Nice pics, Dignan, thanks for posting them.

"CheddarLimbo in an extremely close battle on Badru valley. I believe this came down to a few Marro Warriors taking out Agent Carr."

This really did come down to initiative. I got it in the last round and was able to take out Carr and Skahen. That was a crazy fun match...

Also, I (stupidly) thought that we were using fractional scoring to determine points. He only had one lone Wolf of Badru left, against my Marro Warriors, Marcu, and a single Knight of Weston. I thought I was way ahead in points, right? But no, I was one shiny knight away from losing the whole thing when time was called. Great game!

Pro Tip kids: Make sure you understand how tournaments are being scored so you don't look like a doofus like me.

Thanks again to everyone I played with and socialized with, it was a great event. And thanks to all the out-of-towners who came all the way up there dressed like Vikings and MacDirk!

Man, what a great event. Thanks for everything Ry. The venue was cool and I didn't feel all that cramped. It was a neat place to have the event. The prize table was outstanding. Thanks to all the sponsors for all the prizes they added.

I had some great games and was jazzed with the way my army played. I was virtually walking out the door with a different, much lamer, army and changed my mind at the last minute.

My first match was against SaintbyGrace (who've I now played in three tournaments). He's such a great guy. We had a rather quick game as his Q9, Q10, and Charos army matched up poorly against my glads/blasts army. I was able to get a ton of glads around his heroes and get insane modifiers to my attacks.

My second match was against Stacey Ryan (or Ryan Stacy) on Badru Valley. He had 10th foot x1, Izumi Samurai, Gure Oni, Zelrig, and Kaemon Awa. Again my army was able to match up well against Stacey and once I was able to take Zelrig out of action there wasn't enough firepower to stem the flow of soulborgs I was throwing over the hills.

In my third match I ran into the perenial whipping boy DrLivingston and his Braxas Army on "If you can't take the heat". DrL'S AE dropped in the first round but ended up performing poorly and doing very little damage. Then I marched my soulborgs down the field and kept them packed together as we approached Braxas. I was finally able to close enough of the map off and swarm Braxas and take her down. After that, it was all over (of course we both knew it was all over the moment I sat down across from DrL).

My fourth match was against Dissolutio and his Sentinal army on Ruins of Pine tree marsh. Dissolutio's AE dropped at the start of the match and got a few good shots in, but lost two members early on. I then proceeded to try and avoid the remaining two AE who were perched on the far side of the map. I got a lucky shot on one of his Krav's and then extended my Glads into his start zone to take out Raelin. I got a little over extended and started losing gladatrons at an alarming rate to sentinals. However, in the end my Krav were able to finish off Dissolutio's army. A great game.

My final match was against Rod's 4th Mass, Raelin, Taelord army on Fire isles. In this match we basically traded shots across the open lava pit. My Krav not wanting to get too close to his Taelord Raelin power zone and his Mass not wanting to get too far away from Raelin's Aura. In the end the Krav were able to win the battle of attrition and take the field. It was a very close match and I only two krav and one Gladitron left.

Overall, it was a great event, as always. I'll have to see if Drl's Bro wants to play a final match for Oncara's trophy, but I won't pester him about it. I had a blast and I want to thank all of my opponets for being such good sports (except DrL who immediately blamed the dice after our match).

P.S. The capper on the day was when DrL almost got thrown out of Hooters for being so freaking drunk.

P.P.S. I also want to say thanks to the guys from San Antonio for making the drive up. It was great to meet you guys and you all contributed to the festive atmosphere with your costumes (I'm kicking myself right now that I don't have one freakin shot of you guys - what was I thinking).

I had a great time. I really am glad I was able to make it out to play. Ry, you did a great job at organizing and running this event. I know how difficult it is to run these types of things, anyone who can do it as well and smoothly as you did deserves recognition.

I also want to thank all the players who came out in support of this. Congrats to the winner, and happy 'scaping in the future.

Many thanks to R˙chean and all who helped set up/run the event. I had a blast.

The last tourney I went to I was 0 for 5. This time 1 and 4. So I am improving. Slightly. It would have helped if I had been using Zelrig the right way. I need to pay attention more.

One thing I thought was odd was that when prizes where being given out everyone was passing up the Skahens and taking everything else. I didn't get to go to GenCon so I was ecstatic to get one. I spent $20 and got a $50 figure, a great shirt, and lunch. Very cool.

StacySensei, my first tournament (last year's NHSD) I went 1-4 and the following tournament went 0-4. So I know where you're coming from.

As far as prizes, I can only speak for me, but I'd already done a repaint of Agent Skahen, and truth be told, would've taken one, but seeing as I didn't have any lava terrain, that was the prize I was coveting.

Speaking of prizes, wasn't there supposed to be a Cowboys Q10? Did I miss that completely?

What an awesome NHSD! Great people, great fun and some crazy games.

I finished 2-3 overall playing a frenzy based army
4x Venoc Vipers
1x Armoc Vipers
1x Venoc Warlord (Go Mittens, Go!)
1x Cyprien Esenwein
1x Sonya Esenwein

Overall, I was pleased with how the army played out since I built it for the pure joy of getting to say "FRENZY" each time I tried to roll for it. It worked well in my second match since frenzy hit 5 times on the first order marked of the game! Sadly the vipers did have a bit of a tough go just tossing three attack dice and having no defense, but it was a fun experiment none the less.

It was cool to see Chad and Imax again from Gencon and getting to put more faces with usernames. Also being the only girl in a tiny room full of scaper guys was kinda neat :D. And Dr. L you cracked me up big time glad I was able to catch Braxas defeat of Zelrig on camera for you!

Here are some assorted pics. Enjoy! There are not many captions, you guys know who you are...

My apologies for not showing. They moved up one of my doctors appointments to Saturday at 10:10 (both my knees are blown with a bone tumor encompassing 80% of my right femur and they are concerned about a blood clot, so when they say "come in" I do so. So, if I don't pop up at a gaming session, usually, I'm back in the emergency room or unable to stand that day.):pity:

I called Thosw and let him know so he could snag my spot, since he had bowed out earlier, and then found out he could come.

I'll bring the Cowboys mini to the next tourney.

:grouphug:Speaking of which, is there a thread to monitor when people in the DFW (Arlington) area get together and game and when tourneys/competitions are?

Folks get together every Tuesday at Dignan's house in Richardson--a bit of a trip from Arlington.

Rym, Cheddarlimbo, and Rodriquez (also from Arlington) make it over about once every 4-6 weeks.

Those Arlington guys also seem to end up playing somewhere every Friday or Saturday night.

PMing any of those guys will probably get you a game every week.

Hope that helps.

Hey, no apologies needed. Life happens and you cannot do anything about it. As long as you're on the road of progress and getting better regarding your knees, then that's all that counts.

The thread(s) you want are DFW's Gameday Thread (http://www.heroscapers.com/community/showthread.php?t=18265) and The Texas Thread (http://www.heroscapers.com/community/showthread.php?t=72) where all are welcome.

I was interested in getting some Heroscape set up at ConDFW this year (Feb 2008) and was told that someone was already doing so. Armageddon's health issues stomped on that, but I was not aware of it until sometime Saturday (ConDFW being a Fri/Sat/Sun convention). Finding out so late meant that there wasn't much I could do.

This year, I intend to organize the HS gaming myself, and I'll have a thread up here on Heroscapers.com soon (within a month) to reflect that.

BroInLaw and Dignan, the 2 undefeated players from Hexes in Texas will be playing for pride (BroInLaw already got all the loot) as well as Onacara's trophy next weekend, November 8.

I'm pretty sure Dignan will be posting an extensive battle report with pictures and whatnot (seems masochistic to me), but I will be posting the winner here anyway.

Who will win?

Melee Gruts or Blasty Blastatrons?

I should roll again, huh?

I'm looking at the map and I can't decide if it hurts orcs or not.

I'm just scared if I rolled again, Meatgrinder would show up.

That would be really bad.

So, probably I won't reroll.

I'm pretty positive Dignan wants to really do this thing up with lots of pictures documenting every major move etc.

So I'm sure a shot of the trophy will make it in there somewhere.

I should roll again, huh?

I'm looking at the map and I can't decide if it hurts orcs or not.

I'm just scared if I rolled again, Meatgrinder would show up.

That would be really bad.

So, probably I won't reroll.

I volunteer to be photographer on the 8th, if someone else wants to keep the minutes of the battle. I'm guessing we'll want to watch this match instead of playing amongst ourselves anyway.

Do you think it would be possible to get a photo put up showing what Onacara's winner's trophy looks like? Most of us have no idea...

As soon as I get it. Hopefully I will have it sometime this week.

Uh...I was going to play and kind of glance over every once in a while.

But, yeah, I guess it would give the moment more of a momentous thing if we stood around watching, jotting down notes, and making fun of Dignan.

I don't mind taking notes.

I might have a guy coming over that's never played Heroscape before.
And he wants to learn how. So if he does show up, I may have to pass note taking duties to someone else.

Looking forward to this thing!

Hey guys

Brandon and I played our "championship" match last night and I posted a pretty thorough battle report (http://www.heroscapers.com/community/showthread.php?p=705643#post705643).

Check it out if you got 20 minutes to burn. Short story: I won, good match.
