Hey guys, I've been looking for a fantasy movie that I've seen when I was a kid. All I can remember was there was this old guy called the ______ Baron. He had some sidekicks with powers. A black guy who's really strong and a bald guy who runs really fast. There's a kid who tags along the gang.
The dude who runs really fast looks familiar. Maybe a comedian...but i can't seem to point my finger. I was too young to remember celebrity names.
Anybody has an idea what this movie I'm talking about?

Amazingly, I've not seen it! I really Terry Gilliam's movies, so I'll make a point of getting the DVD some time soon.

It's better than Time Bandits. But don't debate me. Watch it. Oh yeah, the fast running dude is a Monty Python--Idle. Cool.
It has 7.0 rating. (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0096764/)

Just a warning, Munchausen was my least favorite of the Terry Gilliam movies. I own a copy of them all on DVD except Munchausen (Robin Williams, although in the movie as the King of the Moon, but refused to let his name be added to the credits) and I even have the Brazil: Criterion Collection version (which includes a version never released/shown in the US)! Time Bandits, Brazil and The Adventures of Baron Munchausen are actually a Terry Gilliam trilogy showing the stages of man's imagination; child, middle and old. I guess I get to look forward to living The Adventures of Baron Munchausen soon ...
You may take that advice for what you might believe it is worth.

It's a funny movie but more funny if you're 12 and under or completely high (I'm guessing).

Wow what a flip in opinion. I was looking on Wiki about Gilliam and the entry states it's one of Gilliam fans' favorite movies.
You can be sure I'll head back to Wiki or find some source on the interent to read more about this Robin Williams incident. :?
and I even have the Brazil: Criterion Collection version (which includes a version never released/shown in the US)!
Those Crierion DVDs are stellar. If I didn't have so many spending insterests already, you can be sure I'd own more than the Criterion Wages of Fear DVD.

That is really interesting.

I was under 12 when I saw it (I wasn't high either hehe). I think the fast running dude was really cool. I haven't watch Brazil. I'll look it up. Thanks for the info Malechi.

Possibly why I did not enjoy it, as I was much over 12 and much over smoking ...
EDIT: My mistake, I was referring to The Adventures of Baron Munchausen, not Brazil.

Hey what did anyone think of Tideland?
I saw it this summer. My sister lent it to me and up until popping it into the DVD player, I didn't know it was a Gilliam movie.
For sure, the end was amazing.
I'd like to see the entire movie a second or third time to hopefully digest it all.

I saw the film. That was a great film! A lot of stuff there reminded me of things I saw on other films. A lot of "they got this from this movie?" moments for me.
One example is the big truck driven by Jill; reminds me of a Bjork music video. Another one is the interrogation chamber; reminds me of Professor X's...hmmm...psychic brain room (cerebro?).
I'm glad I knew about this awesome film. :D

Let's not forget other Gilliam Movies:
12 Monkeys (one of my personal faves)
Fisher King
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
Tideland (the single most disturbing movie I've ever witnessed)
The Brothers Grimm (great film)

I read Tideland on imdb. I'll watch it. Disturbing you say? I'll definitely watch it.
I saw fear and loathing but just portions of the movie.
Brother Grimm...Matt Damon? Its Terry Gilliam's? Cool!
Beatle George? Cool triv.
I have yet heard of Life of Brian. I'll look that one up.
I think my system's going to be Gilliam overload.
-Edit
Life of Brian movie description:
" Brian is born in a stable on Christmas, right next to You Know Who. The wise men appear and begin to distribute gifts.
The star moves further, so they take it all back and move on. This is how Brian's life goes.
The Jews are looking for a release from the Romans, Spiritual and political decay,
keep looking for signs and a group decides Brian is the Messiah. He cannot convince them he is not.
He joins the Peoples' Front of Judea, one of several dozen separatist groups who actually do nothing,
but really hate the Romans. While not about Jesus,
it is about those who hadn't time, or interest to listen to his message. Many Political and Social comments"
I think I saw this one already when I was a kid. I'll watch it again!
Munchausen (Robin Williams, although in the movie as the King of the Moon, but refused to let his name be added to the credits)
Tis true!

Of all the Terry Gilliam films, I would believe this to be the most widely watched considering it is a Monty Python film ...

Well when I was a kid, I didn't give a rip about movie titles. Except if they were afternoon cartoons.

I tried to watch Brazil, seriously, I tried! But I fell asleep twice, and eventually sent it back to Netflix. It was just so boring to me!
I've heard such good things about it, but I never was able to get through the first half of the movie. Why is it so great?

I really wanted to like Tideland. I really did. The script was interesting, the cinematography was great. It just made me feel so dirty. Even more so than Requiem For A Dream. I did only see it once though; maybe a second round will convince me.
Baron Munchausen was great, but 12 Monkeys and Fear and Loathing are my favorite Gilliam films.

I saw tideland. It was a great film. I enjoyed it. I have a certain threshold for semi morbid and morbid stuff though.
Anyway, have you watched Terry Gilliam's introduction to Tideland?

I can see how you can get bored with Brazil.
Why it is so great (IMO):
1. Very satirical
2. Surreal
3. I hate paper work
4. Concan
5. Kato
6. Setting of the story

grimm brothers was not good they could made a 100 times better movie with this idea. if i look shleepy hollow and grim brothers the sleepy hollow word had wore deep.
grim brothers is a shame of fantasy it is just our world with one spectral think, like a vampire (dracula).
if you have read allen moores lxg books the word there is greater than the small grimm world.
münchausen der lügen baron is a great book in germay, the movie was good. but it is the same like grimm brothers our world with secrets but here there are manny more..
imünchhausen is a rip of from don quichote, this book has also many movies from 1:1 book to move oder a total fantasy film where the adventures are true.
gigants or windmile that is the question.
like other books about the till euenspiegel or the schlidbürger(a idiotic german city folk ) here the english name Wise_Men_of_Gotham http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wise_Men_of_Gotham

The "unhappy" ending to Brazil was a shocker. I think it cemented my love for the "mind f***" endings of movies.
I understood most of the imagery from Brazil (beuracracy, lost in the paperwork, duplicates, triplicates, etc) except for the ductwork, never been able to figure that one out.
