Ohio NHSD Tourneyupdated 10/19/08 RESULTS AND ARMIES

With Hendal not putting on this year’s event us Ohioans need a place to celebrate. Normally I hold my tourneys at my house. With the turnout that is expected with NHSD that wouldn’t work out so well. So I am interested in seeing who would be attending before I go and reserve the Hall to host it in.

The name of the place the tourney will be held is called Grace Baptist Church Community Center. It is located in the back of the church where there is a gym. There is a big sign on the road for the church. It is easy to spot in a podunk town like South Amherst.
its slightly south of the previous locations.

registration and pregaming will open at 11 am and a strict start time of noon.


With the change in Gencon we will be playing with 520 point armies. Starting zones will be 32 hexes for that wonderful swarm feeling, hexes Will be added to the backs of starting zones already designated. No customs, proxies, or Marvel units. I will allow repaints for customs and cool repaints of standards figures. (As long as the physical shape has not been altered or modded.)

There will be no entry fee but we would expect you to bring a Heroscape related prize, Cash to buy some Heroscape, Some groovy custom terrain, or even other games that you would think some scapers would be interested in. It’s my goal to make sure everyone that comes, leaves with a prize.

The doors open at 11:00 am. We will start setting up right then. any help would be greatly appreciated. Registration will last from 11:00am to 11:57am with the first match starting at noon. Each round will be 1 hour long with 10 minutes between each round. A total of 5 rounds will be played.

Scoring Will be520 pts for a victory and whatever you destroyed for losing points. It will include partial scoring for dead squads and wounded Heroes. Example, you only destroy 4 of your opponent’s stingers so you would get 80 losing points. 60 for the full squad and 20 points for the other stinger since 60 divided by 3 is 20. The same logic would be followed for wounded heroes. Example, Eldgrim with 2 wounds on him would net you 20 losing points. Divide his points by total life and add the points per wound. Fractions will be rounded up. Rank will be determined in order by, W/L record, Total losing points, and Strength of schedule. If for some odd reason there is still a tie it will be settled with a 20 sider.

A lot of things are still up in the air, but I might be able to make it. I might also bring Junior Agent Minivann (my son), but again a lot of things are up in the air.

I'll be in Findlay, Ohio for the next 2-3 years. I'll be there ahead of the family to get a place to stay. If I don't have something by October I can make it if I can manage a ride. If I have a place for the family and they are there I can drive, but it is within 4 days of our wedding anniversary. Either way I could also be in Indiana with the volleyball team for an away match.

I went to canton last year and it was a ton of fun, so i'd like to go to the equivolent this year. Where in Ohio is this located, like on the east/west/north/south portion of the state. I'll be commuting from Pittsburgh PA so I'd like to know what kind of a drive I'm in for.

In theory I could hold a big tournament in Pittsburgh. I have an entire gym with tables available and everything, but if there's gonna be one within a reasonable distance to where I live then I'll just go there.

There are hotels/motels in Amherst and Elyria. They are 10-15 minutes away and near restaurants and stores. You could get one near Cleveland if you wanted to visit some place there. Overall, Elyria would probably be the cheapest and the hotels are near a mall. Near Cleveland there is a mall called Great Northern Mall that is better and has 2 gaming stores. You can go here from Elyria also.

I dunno. as for how long it is, Im looking to start rolling dice at noon. 5 rounds lasting an hour long with 10 minutes in between for a break. somewhere in there will be a 45 minute or so break so people can go eat or do whatever as needed. I have to be out of the place by 7 pm. Oh and some more great news, Sandra from house mouse games has hooked our event up with a 50 dollar gift certificate for a prize! dont forget to tell her thanks!

I don't think I'm a huge fan of Pine Tree Marsh, because of the elevated starting zones. It kind of encourages turtling, which I hate with a passion. However, it's only one map... if others are cool with it, no big deal.

No, I don't think so, I just like to do all I can to prevent it. Like, I could see a 4th Mass army or Vydar Range army just chilling out in that starting zone and waiting until the opponent comes to them, since they already have the high ground.

But, like you said, I don't know of anyone coming to the tournament that might do it. I just want to see as few games go to the time limit as possible.

At our last tourney we tried to make sure that players that didn't know each other played. If there are lots of people it may be difficult to keep track of who plays who.

the first round will be setup to where you do not play against someone from your gaming group.(as best as possible anyways). after that its up to the software........ Cactus, what would you like to see pine tree marsh replaced with? I agree with you on the turtling issue, i dont want to see it happen.

Just about any of the other BoV maps would be fine, I think. That's really the only one I have any sort of problem with. Mole Hills looks to use roughly the same terrain - it might be a good one.

If anyone can bring 1,2, or all 3 please post here so I know they are coming. Also I will give you a peek into what I am bringing and ask if anyone has 2 squads of Venoc Vipers I could borrow. Custom Terrain is encouraged! We love seeing things that cant be bought in stores. Like the above snow sets, Agent Skahens, and Flag bearers. they came from WoTC as part of the prize package they sent. The dice tower was provided by IMAX and is a model that cant be bought. Sandra was kind enough to provide the 50 dollar gift certificate to www.housemousegames.com the IMAX adventure/dice bag, Marvelscape, Ninjas and samurai, 8.5 and an Agent Skahen came from me. There is 1 of each flag bearer then a double of Ornak and Gilbert.

Thanks you guys for spending your time and energy to make NHSD enjoyable for all of us.
The church was a great place to have it and the space and table layouts were perfect. The boards were absolutely fabulous! (Well, except for lava heights or whatever one that was: it did me in!) I'm thankful that you guys did all this so we could play and have fun.
Oh yeah-I guess my claim to fame will be as the only one who went defeated. (not to be confused with UNdefeated). Oh well, it was worth it-I got to pick two booster packs! Wahoo!! Shoot-I'd do it again for two more packs!
Next time I will have to playtest my army before the tourney...it was the first time I played three of the squads I used: not a good idea without having a feel for them. Hey I'm from Cleveland-"There's always next year!"

Kudos to Southwest Ninja for all his hard work. He really made this tourney. He gathered most of the prizes, brought all of the boards, brought his laptop to run the tourney software to keep us on track, donated great prizes from his own stash and organized the whole thing.

And a shout out to Brownsfan for securing the location. It worked out well. Even with the birthday party going on at the same time. And how lucky were we to have a bunch of kids selling us hot dogs and birthday cake!

My son and I had a great time. Thanks to everyone involved that put that together and thanks to simplymenotu for driving. It was nice getting to meet you guys. It's always nice to put a face with a name and always funny to see them not look like their avatars (I'm one to talk). My son picked up a Sir Gilbert and an Agent Skahen. He was pretty excited about that. I picked up both wave 8 commons. That put me at 2x commons for all the small expansions!

EDIT: I forgot to mention. It appears that I'm short 3 Vydar dice. I think my son must have left them on a table after a game. It won't kill me if I never get them, but I'd love to have them back with their brothers and sisters in the Vydar dice bag.

Just wanted to thank everyone that made this thing possible, including especially southwest ninja (with double emphasis - you did an awesome job, Terry!), Shieldcrusher and Brownsfan, and all the players for making it a huge event! I had a blast, but wish I could've Frenzied more and at least would've given Lucas a game this time.... maybe next year.

I hope everyone that attended considers the drive to Youngstown on November 29th!
