My brother in-law is the biggest Scorpians fan out there and he asked me a couple months ago if I wanted to go see them when they came to Chicago. I had never seen them and used to like them twenty years ago, so I said "sure".
Well I got back from the show about 5 hours ago (12:15am) and am up already to go to work . The show was at the Charter One Pavilion on Northerly Island in Chicago (the place that used to be Meigs Field next to Soldier Field). It's my first time at that venue and it was quite a nice little outdoor place to see concerts, it's smack dab next to Lake Michigan with the stage facing the Lake and the crowd having the Chicago skyline as the background behind the stage.
So my brother in-law, nephew and another buddy went up there and had a blast, we were in the 19th row near the center. They didn't announce the openning act (Ratt) until a little while ago and it was pretty cool to see them as they had some good songs about 24/25 years ago. They were pretty tight and Steven Pearcy still could belt it out (boy he looked old) and Warren DiMartini could still rip on that guitar.
The Scorpians were really fantastic and considering these guys are in their 50's, they can still bring it really, really well. Their new material that they played was really good but the stuff from the 80's was the stuff that brought me back to my teenage days of loving some 80's metal.
It was funny to see a bunch of old farts in their 40's and 50's in the crowd rocking out. There were businessmen/women, blue collar folks and people that looked like they couldn't let go of there youth (and the ponytails on balding fat guys was pretty funny as was the glammed up women). There were some younger folks as well and people in their 40's bringing their children. Kind of weird mix of people but it was fun, and funny to see people get progressively tanked as you could go in and out and buy and bring in the $7/$9 beer.
Well I'm off to get ready to work.
