My girlfriend and I have just recently gotten into Heroscape. We are not familar with other games of this calibur either, ie D&D etc. I am interested in Gen Con especially because I live in Indy but am wondering if we'd feel out of place since we're not long term die hard fans. We love playing Heroscape but we don't even play it "by the book" so that we have an ongoing game rather than individual ones. Would we just be "fish out of water" there?

I was a fish out of water there last year and I can tell you I still felt at home. You should just come out on a day if you get the chance, see what it's like.

If it isn't your scene than you haven't lost anything, but even then, you might gain some new friends, :)

The costume contest alone is worth seeing!!! Plus there are seminars, exhibitions and films being shown.

I was a fish out of water my first year, but once you get familiar with how things work, its a blast! Each convention I try more and more new games as my confidence level increases :)

My friends and I are planning on setting up at a table in the hotel somewhere and just playing for fun and inviting others to join.

Come on over and have some fun!

Last year was my first time, I liked it so much I don't think I will miss going a single year, as long as it stays in Indy! (Living within driving distance helps a lot!) Seriously, I had fun and found great deals on all kinds of stuff, some I was already into, some I wasn't. :)

My girlfriend and I took Friday (15th) off of work just to get away. We were planning on leaving town, but what is weird is all of the stuff in Indy that weekend. Gen Con, Summerslam (WWE) - we may just stay here. Thanks for the replies!
