I present Cavalier's Cavalcade of Marvel Maps and Super Scenarios.

I have quite a bit to add to this new thread, but I don't know when I will get them all uploaded. Some of what I will share here I have posted elsewhere, and some will be brand new.

First up, a map inspired by Dr. Weirdscaper's Orca Pod map (see his prolific map thread (http://www.heroscapers.com/community/showthread.php?p=626127)to check out his monstrous maps). Dr. W's version is much larger and requires a lot more than my collection can provide. I thought I would try to reproduce the theme at a smaller scale.

http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/aa13/cavtech/SubBase.jpg

Scenario: A submarine using never before seen technologies has been developed by a private team hoping to sell it to the highest bidder. Two teams of super-powered individuals have been dispatched with unknown intentions. Do they want the sub for themeselves or do they want to keep it from falling in to the wrong hands?

Scenario Rules: Heat of Battle Rules (no designated start zones, players take turns placing figures on the map). Caveats: Units cannot start on the sub or any of the walls/towers.

Scenario Goals: Control the 2 glyphs simultaneously for 2 complete rounds.

I really like the idea of using Scape pieces to make objects for scenarios. I learned how to do that in SSBB, where all you get is stupid little blocks. Too bad I don't have enough Marvel to make that map: 1 :(

This is an older scenario, but one of my favorites.

A Super Hero Map and Scenario using the Lexan City Block mats:
Frozen Overpass
http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/aa13/cavtech/FrozenOverpass2.jpg

The bottom level is not actual tiles, but represents two CITY BLOCK Lexan terrain mats. Floydski's printable roads can be used as well...or if you have enough Marvel sets, you could just build the base yourself

Team 1 starts in the Yellow Start Zone, Team 2 in the Red.
Place a Glyph in the indicated locations, this will serve as objective markers for the scenario.

Scenario:
Disaster has struck at a top-secret research lab! An experimental weather control device has malfunctioned
and exploded leaving a nearby overpass in ruin. The device has also sent out a freezing wave that has begun
to encase the city in ice and snow. The device must be recovered and delivered to scientists who can either
disable the wave or unleash its destructive powers. Two teams have been sent for to recover it, which will
win the day?

Scenario Objectives:
Recover the experimental weather control device and return it to your start zone or destroy all of your
Opponent’s units.

Device Rules:
Only Heroes may carry Device Glyphs. If a Hero figure lands on the Device Glyph, place that glyph
on the Hero Figure's card. If a Hero carrying the Device Glyph is destroyed, place the Device Glyph on the
space previously occupied by the destroyed figure. The Device Glyph may now be picked up by another
Hero Figure. A Player can choose to drop a Device Glyph at the end of the carrying Figure's turn. To drop
a Device Glyph, place it on any empty space adjacent to the carrying figure.

A new Marvel Scenario for your enjoyment.
http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/aa13/cavtech/Silo.jpg

Recent intelligence has surfaced indicating that an abandoned missle silo complex still houses live missles. Two teams have been dispatched to the site; one with instructions to disarm the missles and disable the launch system, the other with intent to activate the deadly arsenal.

To win the scenario, a player must control the four Silo Access Units (indicated by Symbol side-up Marvel Glyphs) or be the last player with Active units. To control the Silo Access Units a player must have a Hero unit on each of the glyph spaces for an entire round.

Uses pieces from: 2 RotV, 2 RttFF, 3 FotA, 2 M:tCB and 2 SotM

Even with Range, though, you're at the mercy of your opponent's figure placement. Maybe some sort of "bridge," one space wide, connecting the lava field (with more lava field if it'll stay up), but keep the fluid leaking underneath it. :2cents:

Sweet redesign, Cav! I, too, will definitely be playing this with Marvel. (Oh, I think you mean SotM, not RotV.)

I like the "reclaiming some secret rocket part" idea! Maybe place one of the Marvel glyphs at the far points of the map, like each team had already recovered a part, only to find it was half of what they needed. Victory could go to the first team to end a round with both rocket parts on the road spaces at their end of the map.

Ok, I will do it as soon as we clean up the To-Do's in that thread.

Also, I was wondering if you would be willing to change the Rocketship to allow as least three spaces on top of the ship for battle, meaning getting rid of three molten lava hexes. The whole "crashed spaceship" is a great centerpiece, and I thought maybe this could make it just slightly more playable. Of course, it's your map, and I know you'll do what you want with it and either way I love it. I will be submitting them both very soon.

EDIT: I understand why you made it like that. I completely agree.

The molten lava, representing the burning engines of the ship, were used to prevent flyers/jumpers/leapers/swing-liners from camping on extreme height where they couldn't be touched by melee units.

New Marvel Map for your enjoyment. Island City Drive uses parts from 4 M:tCB, 2 TJ, 3 FotA, at least a couple of RotV and a couple RttFF (this one is in no way BoM compliant;)).

http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/aa13/cavtech/Islandroad.jpg
Scenario:
In a tropical paradise, disaster lurks. Each team has control of 1 half of a top secret device (represented by the glyphs), its properties not completely known.

Each team must guard its half while attempting to retrieve the other.

Victory: Get both pieces of the device into your starting zone.

Device Rules:
Only Heroes may carry Device Glyphs. If a Hero figure lands on the Device Glyph, place that glyph on the Hero Figure's card. If a Hero carrying the Device Glyph is destroyed, place the Device Glyph on the space previously occupied by the destroyed figure. The Device Glyph may now be picked up by another Hero Figure. A Player can choose to drop a Device Glyph at the end of the carrying Figure's turn. To drop a Device Glyph, place it on any empty space adjacent to the carrying figure.

Thanks for the compliments, Bats. I really enjoy making Marvel maps. The biggest challenge, for me, is that in order to get a truly "Comic Book feel" it takes a lot of terrain. I hate the Marvel Ruin because it is too small... it doesn't feel epic to me. So I end up trying to make skyscrapers for Spidey to swing on or other locations that I would expect to see in a comic. And I end up using a lot of tiles.:)

How about:
Heist at Gotham City Bank.
http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/aa13/cavtech/GothamBank.jpg

Good Guys start in the park. Bad Guys in the Doorway, parking lot and grounds of Gotham City Bank.

The heist has happened, the Bad Guys have the Loot. The Good Guys have to save the day and the money.

Scenario:
A Hero figure must start the game on the center location at the bank doorway. Place a Marvel glyph on this unit's card. This is the character carrying the stolen Loot.

Good Guys have to recover the loot within XX rounds*. If at the end of Round XX Bad Guys have the loot, they have made their get away, winning the game. If the Good Guys hold it at the end of the designated round, they have successfully recovered the loot and win the game.

Loot Rules:
Any unit may carry the Loot Glyph. If a Hero or Squad figure lands on the Loot Glyph, place that glyph on the Figure's card. If a Hero carrying the Loot Glyph is destroyed, place the Loot Glyph on the space previously occupied by the destroyed figure. If any member of a Squad carrying the Loot Glyph is destroyed, place the Loot Glyph on the space previously occupied by the destroyed figure even if it is not the figure that originally picked up the the Loot Glyph. The Loot Glyph may now be picked up by another Figure. A Player can choose to drop the Loot Glyph at the end of the carrying Figure's turn. To drop the Loot Glyph, place it on any empty space adjacent to the carrying figure.

1 RttFF

*not sure how many rounds to go on this one.

Maybe instead of total rounds you could go a certain number of consecutive rounds with control of the loot?
Quick question as well - what happens when all the heroes die and both sides are left with squads and no one to carry the loot? Stalemate?

How would you suggest handling squadies carrying the loot? If you place the loot on the card, how would you determine which unit is carrying it? Maybe placing the glypoh underneath the unit? But that causes problems on ladders...:?

IAmBatman
June 15th, 2009, 06:01 PM
Maybe if you put it on the squad card, then any time you kill any of the squad members you get the Loot. Feels a tad funny thematically, but I think it'd work without any trouble. And who's to say the squaddies aren't transferring the loot around between them anyway? This would also give squaddies a disadvantage, which I kinda like.

Cavalier
June 15th, 2009, 06:08 PM
Or maybe if any member of a squad carrying the loot is killed, you have to drop the loot. Again, it could have some weird quatum physic like transferences, but as we are wont to say, it's a game, not a simulation.:D

REVISED LOOT RULES:

Very nice ... you've got me tempted to ask you to go give those M3G slackers a kick in the butt, Cav! You do truly wonderful Marvel map work. Maybe C3G will have to subcontract ... :-P

I love your maps Cav, keep them coming.

Too bad I didn't keep my Girder and Panel set from when I was a kid, it would be pretty cool to build skyscrapers and bridges for Marvel Scenarios with these things.

Mine was kind of like this but I had more. Why do we let our parents throw crap away? Now it's kind of expensive.

My latest (this one is not BoM nor M3G compliant;)):
http://www.heroscapers.com/downloads//armoredtruckheist_xbl.jpg
A Marvel/Superhero Scenario.

Good Guys start in the Blue Start Zone.
Bad Guys start in the Red Start Zone.

The Bad Guys have knocked over an Armored Truck and they have the Loot. The Good Guys must save the day and the money.

Scenario:
The Green Start Zone indicates the location of the Armored Truck. The Glyph is the Loot, the figure starting on the Glyph space starts with the Loot in its possesion.

Good Guys have to recover the loot within 10 rounds. If at the end of Round 10 Bad Guys have the loot, they have made their get away, winning the game. If the Good Guys hold it at the end of the designated round, they have successfully recovered the loot and win the game.

Loot Rules:
Any unit may carry the Loot Glyph. If a figure lands on the Loot Glyph, place that glyph on the Figure's card.

Uses: 4 M:tCB, 3 FotA, up to 4 RoTV, 2 RttFF

For the crane arms (that's what the are supposed to be ;)), I use the RttF 5 road piece, some wall walk pieces and a Marvel 7 hex and 2 hex concrete.

http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/aa13/cavtech/craneArms.jpg

The wall walks lock to the caslte wall pieces and interlock with the long road pieces. Then caped with the 7 hex, it is all quite stable.

Set up Armored Truck Heist for last night's "Scape in the New Year" party.

Played great. Awesome map (barely fit on the folding table, but we made due).

The last game (at 3:30 this morning) ended in what I can only think of as a draw. Gaton and I need an answer, please.

Round 10, OM 3. Good guy Spidey, down to 1 Life, has the loot, adjacent to 1 Life, once-rejected Thanos. Thanos attacks, Spidey whiffs the d20, then whiffs the defense roll. Dead Spider--drop loot.

Thanos' turn 3 is over, Spidey doesn't get one, so Round 10 is over with no one in possession of the loot.

I say it's a draw because the scenario isn't a kill-em-all. Gaton, of course, wants the win, because he destroyed all the good guys.

What say you?

"Good Guys have to recover the loot within 10 rounds. If at the end of Round 10 Bad Guys have the loot, they have made their get away, winning the game. If the Good Guys hold it at the end of the designated round, they have successfully recovered the loot and win the game."

http://www.heroscapers.com/community/gallery/files/8/8/8/city_battle_original.jpg (http://www.heroscapers.com/community/gallery/showimage.php?i=6204&c=16)

The bottom level is not actual tiles, but represents two CITY BLOCK Lexan terrain mats.
Good guys start in the Blue Start Zone, Villains in the Red.
Place 4 Glyphs in the indicated locations, these will serve as objective markers for the scenario.

Scenario:
Four meteorites crashed in the city in recent weeks. It has been discovered that these four items are actually components to an alien device; if the four components are assembled, the one with control of the device will be able tap in to an alien power source of unimaginable power. Who will seize the power? Will it be used for good or for evil?

Scenario Objectives:
Assemble the Alien Device or be the last player with Unit's left on the board.

Device Rules:
Only Heroes may carry Device Glyphs. If a Hero figure lands on one of the Device Glyphs, place that glyph on the Hero Figure's card. If a Hero carrying a Device Glyph is destroyed, place the Device Glyph on the space previously occupied by the destroyed figure. This Device Glyph may now be picked up by another Hero Figure. A figure may only carry 1 Device Glyph at a time. A Player can choose to drop a Device Glyph
at any point during the carrying Figure's move. To drop a Device Glyph, place it on any space that the carrying figure passes through during its move. Only 1 device glyph may occupy a space at a time. If a figure carrying a Device Glyph is destroyed while standing on another or while on a ladder space, the carried Device Glyph is returned to its starting position.

If all four Device Glyphs can be arranged in the specified pattern, the player placing the last Device Glyph may attempt to assemble the Device. To assemble the device, the player placing the last Device Glyph rolls the 20-sided die; on a roll of 1, the device is assembled incorrectly and a critical flaw is activated. Roll 2 attack dice. Any skulls rolled count as unblockable wounds on the figure who attempted to activate the device and the components are scattered; return the Device Glyphs to their starting locations. On a roll of 2-10, the device is not assembled properly and nothing happens. On a roll of 11-20, the device is activated and that player wins the game.

Cav and I played a four player "Frozen Overpass" over the weekend with two of our kids. The map was slightly different than what is depicted here, using two of the newer version of the city block Lexan maps. The scenario was a lot of fun, sort of a capture the flag game. We played 1,000 points per person, so a 4,000 point game.

I'll admit, I had been a little skeptical about the Lexan maps. I thought the hexes would slide around too much on top of the Lexan. But it turned out not really being an issue. I highly recommend "Frozen Overpass" and I highly recommend Lexan mats

My oldest insisted on fielding the following:
Prof X
Jean Grey
Cyclops
Colossus
Gambit
Rouge
Angel
Iceman
Firestar
Spider-Man
Green Goblin
Moonknight
Black Panther

and I can't remember who else. :p Of course, most never even got an OM on them before Mom said it was time for bed. :D

Yup! A-Bomb (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A-Bomb_(comics))

Rick Jones as the A-Bomb, from Hulk vol. 2, #2 (April 2008). Art by Ed McGuinness (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ed_McGuinness).

In the aftermath of "World War Hulk (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_War_Hulk)", a new Red Hulk (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Hulk) emerged,[14] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A-Bomb_(comics)#cite_note-hulk1-13) brutally beating and then shooting the Abomination (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abomination_(comics)) to death. After this occurred, Jones escaped from a secret base in Alaska that had been destroyed in a "Hulk-like" manner.
Following this, Red Hulk confronts Jones at Gamma Base, where Bruce Banner is being held. In defense, Jones turns into a creature resembling Abomination, calling himself A-Bomb.[15] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A-Bomb_(comics)#cite_note-HULK2-14) During the fight, the base security measures activate, and giant android (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Android) Harpies (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harpies) (with the face of Betty Ross (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Betty_Ross)) attack the two, and attempt to remove them from the base. A-Bomb manages to disable one mid-flight, and they both crash to earth, the robot exploding as it does.[16] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A-Bomb_(comics)#cite_note-HULK3-15)
A-Bomb joined with several heroes including the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, She-Hulk and the Hulk to help stop an impending earthquake in San Francisco which was caused by Red Hulk.[17] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A-Bomb_(comics)#cite_note-16) After the Red Hulk was defeated, A-Bomb reverted back to Rick. He attempted to reveal who Red Hulk really was, but was shot and dragged away by Doc Samson (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doc_Samson).[18] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A-Bomb_(comics)#cite_note-17)
In Incredible Hulk #600 it is revealed the reason Doc Samson shot Rick Jones is because he now has multiple personality syndrome. It's also revealed that MODOK was involved in Rick's new condition. After Red Hulk drained the gamma energy from Hulk, A-Bomb had enough intelligence to get Bruce Banner to safety.
In Incredible Hulk #604, A-Bomb was shown to be fully healed, participating along with Korg (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Korg_(comics)) as Skaar (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skaar)'s sparing partner to prepare him for the time when the Hulk will return. In the same issue, Rick was reunited with Marlo, who was transformed by the Leader into Harpy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harpy_(comics)), whom Bruce mistakes for Betty Ross.[19] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A-Bomb_(comics)#cite_note-18)
[edit (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Rick_Jones_(comics)&action=edit&section=13)] Powers and abilities

Rick Jones is an athletic man that previously had no superhuman powers. He has received training in combat gymnastics by Captain America. He is also a skilled self-taught folk and rock n' roll singer and guitarist.
Jones's latent psionic potential was once unleashed by the Kree Supreme Intelligence, but he cannot utilize it at will. He was also for a time able to shift spacial/temporal positions with Mar-Vell, and later Genis-Vell.
For an unexplained reason, Rick Jones has gained the ability to turn into a creature resembling the Abomination, granting him vast superhuman strength and durability (even the Red Hulk (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Hulk) only caused superficial damage), but stunting his speech patterns in a similar manner to the classic Hulk persona.[15] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A-Bomb_(comics)#cite_note-HULK2-14) His scales can change color to blend in with his surroundings. Following experimentation on him by MODOK, Rick's human persona became dominant, but at the price of trapping him in A-Bomb form.[20] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A-Bomb_(comics)#cite_note-19)

My wife and I got a nice game in on this map yesterday.

Her:
X-Men
Prof X
Wolverine
Rogue
Nightcralwer
Shadowcat

Me:
Villains
Kingpin
Hobgoblin
Green Goblin
Jack O' Lantern
Juggernaut
Venom

Her X-Men tore up my villains until the end. Venom shined in the final moments, consistantly rolling for Spider Sense and devastating her team. It was Venom vs Prof, Nightcrawler, Wolverine and Shadowcat and he took 'em all out.8)

A city street with a meteor impact crater, perfect place for a mysterious item.

That looks pretty cool Cav. I love how it looks to have pretty good depth in the crater. How many sets does it take? A couple Castles, Marvels and ROTV?

Didn't really check. But I will say it uses most of 4 RotV for the depth.

Looks good for a "Symbiote Invasion" scenario. Or, maybe a "Second Son of Krypton" evil Superman scenario. Whatever you do, I am sure it will be as cool as this map looks.

How about using castle stilts to prop up the map? You could make the crater deeper and the build requirements less steep.

Do you have this map built right now? I may have to come for a visit. :)

It's only a virtual build right now. ;)

I had thought about using castle walls for the base, but a 7 level deep crater is pretty good, I think. :D

And thanks to all for the kind words.

Very Nice!

Is it solid all the way through the 7 levels? I could see allowing some holes in the interior of the lower levels without affecting stability.

It is solid. I've been trying to find ways to leave holes, but it hasn't worked out. I'm still playing with this concept so I might find a good solution.

Porkins with 2 of his kids and Agent Minivann with his son came up this weekend. By my count, there were 3 or 4 games played on Impact along with several games of Summoner Wars, and a game of Dirge: Crimson in Carnage (from Small Box Games).

On Impact, the first game was a 4 way free-for-all between myself, Porkins, Agent Minivann and Minivann's son.

Armies (to the best of my recollection):
Cavalier: Spider-Man, Firestar, Iceman, Moonknight, Scarecrow, Cloak and Dagger
Porkins: Thor, Doomsday, Punisher, Bob-Agent of Hydra
Agent Minivann: Iron Fist, Luke Cage (Power Man), Elektra, Daredevil, Black Panther, Angel
Minivann's son: Superman, Cyclops, Dead-Eye Dan (I know I am forgetting some of his army)

A few highlights:
Doomsday fell to a 20-sider on Fear Gas from Scarecrow but came back with Evolutionary Regeneration (is that the correct name?) and then proceeded to smash the remaining opponents.

Firestar, Cloak and Dagger took out Punisher but then fell themselves.

Thor and Superman duked it out as true titans until Sups eventually fell.

Hopefully the others will post some of their highlights as well (an a report on the other games).

All in all, it was a super fun game.

Sounds like a fun game. Do you use any knockback rules? It would be fun to knock someone down into the crater. :)

We didn't, but I had had the same thought. I know in one game, Porkins and those playing used Glyphs of Temporal Distortion that lead to at least 1 person taking a lava bath.

That was the second game that I played with my daughter and Minivann's son. We had two Boom Tubes and two Temporal Distortion glyphs. It was fun because you could bounce all over the map with the Boom Tubes and then move people around with the Temporal Distortion glyphs. This made a lot of the map more accesible for some figures.

We hadn't deliberately set the Temporal Distortion glyphs within range of the molten lava. There was a large height differential between the glyphs and the lava, so it wasn't obvious. About 2/3 of the way through the game, Minivann's son suddenly realized this fact and dropped my daughter's Rogue into the lava. After that, we had to be especially careful about figure placement. Well, my daughter go Wolverine too close to the Temporal Distortion glyph so Wolvie went into the lava as well....it was fun for the rest of us, but she didn't enjoy it quite so well

Anyway, the glyphs added a lot to the game.

Armies this game were roughly:
Porkins: Elektra, 3x Hand Ninja, 2x SHIELD Agents, Silver Surfer, Punisher
Porkins Juniorette: Storm, Professor X, Rogue, Blob, Wolverine
Minivann Junior: Deadeye, Superman, Batman, Flash, Invisible Woman

That first game it was Elektra that ended up killing Superman. I think I went through Black Panther, Angel, Iron Fist, Luke Cage, and Daredevil before I finally dropped that Kryptonian punk. I think Thor and Superman traded a few hits and then Thor pulled a very uncharacteristic retreat.

I wish I could have played a second game on that map with the glyphs on there. It hurt having to move all those non-flying guys around that map with 5-6 movement.

Now I just need to talk to that boy about how much he plays Deadeye Dan.

Eh, Dan's not a terrible choice for SuperScape. If he one shots the Hulk, he's pure gold!
