First of all, a couple links:
NFL.COM (http://www.nfl.com/)
NFL POWER RANKINGS (http://www.sportsline.com/nfl/powerrankings)
I was kind of surprised to see no thread had ever been started on the NFL, or even football in general. So...
I like my Panthers chances this year. Jake Delhomme has had Tommy John surgery, which is more common in other sports, like pitchers in baseball. He was having a great year before he went down last season. He's recently spoken out, saying that his elbow has been bothering him for years, though us fans never knew. He says since this surgery, he's able to put more strength on his throws and is in no pain compared to what he used to go through everytime he'd release the ball. The receivers have all noticed the change as well, and have spoken accordingly.
We got back Muhsin Muhammad this year, which to any other team may not seem like much, but he was with us the year we made it to the Super Bowl. He's had a tremendous influence on our younger receivers, particularly helping them in the blocking game.
I'm a bit worried about giving up our first round pick next year in this year's draft. It seems we're putting everything into winning NOW. Here's hoping.
I'm an NFL fanatic and go through withdrawls every February-September. So, as I know there are other fans out there, I'll give my division picks:
NFC South
Panthers - Okay, I'm biased, but as I described above, I have many reasons to be hopeful about this season. :D
NFC East
Eagles - The Cowboys or Giants are the easy picks here, but I can't see the Cowboys having another year like last year, and expect T.O. to only keep the peace for so much longer. The Giants are a fickle team. They'll do well, but a healthy McNabb and Asante Samuel on D gives me confidence in this pick.
NFC North
Vikings - Bears are a mess. Packers lost Favre. Lions are the Lions. Well, there's only one left!
NFC West
Seahawks - I still hate this team since the Panthers got slaughtered a few years ago in the Conference Championship, but Hasselback is a winner. Plain and simple. Plus, there's not much competition.
AFC South
Colts - I'll pick them every year till Manning retires.
AFC East
Patriots - My hate for the Seahawks is nothing compared to this. And when a team wins as much as the Pats have, a lot of toes get stepped on. I'm not the only person with a distaste for them and their cheating ways. Man, was that a great Super Bowl. ;) Their division, however, is garbage.
AFC North
Browns - It's finally their time. They'll be neck and neck with the Steelers the whole way, but I'd take Cleveland.
AFC West
Chiefs - Kind of a yucky division these days, but with the draft they had, I'll take a chance on Big Red.

I'm liking the Panthers this year too, and it's not just because I'm a huge fan. I think the team losing Delhomme last year was worth at least a 2 game swing in their final win-loss record (and I think they actually would have won 11 games with him last year). Their defense was solid, and it should be again this year--especially if Julius Peppers can get well (he lost like 25 lbs. throughout the season last season).
Your picks seem well thought out, Shackle. I wouldn't put too much stock in the draft affecting a team's season though. Adrian Peterson's rookie effort was really special, but also super rare. It usually takes about three years for a franchise's draft class to really affect the team.

A bit of a homer with the Carolina pick here are my choices
NFC EAST
COWBOYS (Way too much talent to not win the division)
NFC NORTH
Vikings (if there QB situation holds up)
NFC SOUTH
Saints (Last year was a fluke they are a very very talented team)
NFC West
Cardinals (The seahawks are going to be in turmoil because of the holmgren leaving thing and the Cards are next best choice)
WILDCARDS
Eagles
Panthers
AFC EAST
BILLS (This pains me because I am a Dolphins fan but the patriots have to many people gunning for them and they are under the microscope and the bills have a lot of things coming together at the right time)
AFC NORTH
BROWNS (we agree on one)
AFC SOUTH
JAGUARS (This is also my superbowl pick they have just gotten better in the offseason)
AFC WEST
CHARGERS (No freakin way the chiefs win the division chargers are way too talented and they could also win the superbowl if the jags don't)
WILD CARD
PATRIOTS
COLTS

Here are my predictions....
NFC South
Panthers- I don't really pay attention much to this division, and I don't want to upset the creator of this topic.;)
NFC East
Cowboys- As much as I hate to say it (I'm a skins fan), they're the best team in this division. They have way too much talent and IMO, could go all the way to the Super Bowl. The Giants will have an average season because of Eli's inconsistancy(sp?). The Eagles will do great, but not enough to win the division. My Redskins, well, won't do too hot since they have a new coaching staff and everything. They look like a really talented team with Campbell, Cooley, Moss, and Portis on there.
NFC North
Vikings - This division is the only division where neither team has a quarterback! T-Jack for the Vikes, Rodgers for the Packs, Grossman or whichever one of their 5 bad QB's, and (I think) Jon Kitna for the Lions(I don't pay attention to the Lions much cause I never hear about them) The Vikes had a very good defense last year and will have an even better one with Jared Allen on it. They also have one of the best O-Line and the rookie sensation AP. The only bad thing about this team is their QB and WRs.
NFC West
Seahawks - This was easy, since this division is filled with a bunch of mediocre(sp?) teams other than the Seahawks.
AFC South
Colts - It's been this way since forever, but I just can't see the Jags taking this division over the Colts.
AFC East
Patriots - Well, they're the best team in the NFL and have a WORTHLESS division. No brainer here.
AFC North
Steelers- I think they'll battle this division out with the Browns but the Steelers will prevail because of their great D and because of Parker and Ward. Don't get me wrong, the Browns are good, but they have absolutely NO DEFENSE, and Jamal Lewis is getting way too old. The only good thing about this team is DA and Edwards, but those two can't lead this team by themselves.
AFC West
Chargers- Are you kidding me?! You picked the Chiefs to win this division. Sorry, but that is the worst prediction EVER! They're in a rebuilding stage right now, they're only gonna win 5 or 6 games this season. The Chargers on the other hand, are on the hunt for the Super Bowl. Of course there's LT, and with a full season with Chambers, and Gates at TE, they have some weapons on offense. And their D is stacked with Cromartie, Jammer, Merriman, and IMO the most underated LB in the NFL, Shaun Phillips.
Go Redskins!:p

I think the Panthers will have a shot this year, but they're going to be fighting with Tampa all season long. But, my green and gold warriors still have a shot to win their division, even without Favre. So, here's my picks.
NFC East
Eagles- Giants aren't consistent enough, Washington just lost their head coach and got a nobody to take his place, and I really hate the Cowboys. So I'll take Samuel and the Eagles.
NFC North
Packers/Vikings- Even without Favre, the young talent in Green Bay still has a shot. I'm not sold on Rodgers yet though. The Vikings are going to be big competitors this year, but Chicago is rotten, and the Lions are going to crash again.
NFC South
Buccaneers/Panthers- I still like Tampa's chances, but the Panthers should compete this year. Reggie Bush isn't helping the Saints at all, and Matt Ryan can't resurrect the Falcons in one year.
NFC West
Seahawks- This'll be Holmgrens' last year there, and with him and Hasselbeck there's no way they'll miss the playoffs. No one else in the division can compete.
AFC East
Patriots- I hate them, but their division sucks.
AFC North
Browns/Steelers- I like the Browns this year (they're helped by the Steelers' schedule), but they've got to go through Pittsburgh first.
AFC West
Chargers- They've still got LT, but Denver and Kansas City could upset them.
AFC South
Jaguars- Jacksonville made some improvements this offseason, and the Colts' loss to the Chargers shook my faith in Manning. I think this will be the best division this year.

Well, they play the Panthers week 1, so that's 0-1 for them, and it's just gonna be all downhill from there! :D

I don't have the time at the moment (I'm at Origins) to go over every team but I think that the Vikes will have a great chance to win their division and go pretty far, especially if their QB holds up. Gforce3062 said that both the QB and WRs are a question but with our pick-up of Bernard Berrian and the solid play of Wade and Rice, I think that's not as much of a question. :)
Despite the fact that I am not AT ALL a Packer fan (ugh), I can't help but think that people shouldn't write them off just because Favre is gone. Rodgers looked pretty good in the few minutes he got against Dallas so I think they'll be in good hands, despite the loss of their big star. That being said, I don't think we should lose to them this year but I realize that with the Vikes, anything is possible. LOL

AFC NORTH: Browns
AFC SOUTH: Colts
AFC WEST: Chargers
AFC WILD#1: Bengals
AFC WILD #2: Chiefs
NFC EAST: Cowboys
NFC NORTH: Vikings

NFC WEST: Cardinals

Yeah, I know a lot of people that say the Packers will be nothing without Brett Favre. I mean, they're not completely garbage. They have tons of talent! On offence they have that Grant guy,(forgot his name, but he's the running back) they have Driver and Jennings at WR, and they have a good O-Line. On defence they have 2 really good corners and A.J. Hawk at LB. So really, the only question mark for the Packs is Rodgers. (I still think the Vikings will win this division though)

Delhomme is a decent QB, but nothing special. And Muhammed is not the same receiver he was in the Superbowl year. The Pathers will be in the hunt but the Saints are going to win it this year. But I am biased as a Saints fan. :D

I love football. Here's my picks:
AFC East
Patriots-My favorite team. They're the best in the league, other then maybe the Cowboys. They got robbed last year, but they're going to win this year.
AFC South
Colts-I hate them, but they're good. The division is pretty weak, so it will be pretty easy for them.
AFC North
Bengals-It's Chad's year! (and all the other teams suck, so they actually have a chance)
AFC West
Chiefs-This is easily the strongest division in the AFC. The Chargers are good, but the Chiefs will edge them out. Barely.
Wilcards
Chargers and Broncos-Both are teams are good, and will both make it despite being in the same division. The Jags could make it too.
NFC East
Cowboys-I hate them, but they're stacked this year. It will be hard for them to lose.
NFC South
Panthers-I guess I'm biassed a bit, but they'll win. They look very good on paper this year, I'll just have to see if they can produce.
NFC North
Vikings-They're in a very weak division and are very good. They win easily.
NFC West
Cardinals-This team has improved a lot this offseason. I beleive they'll egde out the Seahawks.
Wildcards
Seahawks and Redskins-The Seahawks always do good, and the Redskins are excellent. They'll easily secure the wildcards.

I don't think the Redskins are just going to sit by idly this year, but I am expecting their new coach to screw up soon.
Anyway, J-Unit, how can you think the AFC South sucks? The Texans are inproving every year, the Colts (argh) are going to be the Colts, the Titans have improved slightly over the offseason, and if they play well, the Jags could be real contenders this year.
As for the Pack, Rodgers' is the only question this year. Our recievers are excellant, Ryan Grant is much better now, and the O-line is great. The defense is anchored by the likes of Al Harris, Charles Woodson, AJ Hawk, Aaron Kampman, KGB, Nick Barnett, and you can't forget the breakout star last year, Atari Bigby. Plus, if rodgers doesn't work out, we stole the 2nd best QB in the draft, Brian Brohm. If you ask me, Brohm is going tobe our future QB, and the Packers still have a good shot at the playoffs.

Other then the Colts, they are weak. The Titans haven't improved at all and are going to do terrible. The Texans are one of those average teams. Sure, they aren't going to do terrible, but they're not going to surprise anyone either. The Jags I considered, but I'm just not feeling them. They'll have a shot at the wildcard, but that's it.
I picked the Bengals because they're division is very messed up. Not bad, just messed. The Steelers have had the biggest dropout of any team I've ever seen. They went from Superbowl Champs to having a losing record in 1 year. They're not terrible, but they're going to keep getting worse. The Browns are on the rise. They are a good team that will keep getting better. I just don't think it's their year. They'll probably make the playoffs next year, but probably not this year. The Ravens are messed up. Excellent defense, terrible offense. I can't see them contending. That just leaves the Bengals, who I feel will have a good year.
The Chargers are also dropping, but are still good. The Chiefs will do great this year. The Broncos are dropping too, but have 1 good year left. The Raiders are improving a lot, and soon will be a contender, although not this year.

At least someone here likes the Packers! Go Pack go! I was just shocked when Favre left the Packers. When someone thought of the Packers, they thought of Favre, and vice versa. Now that he's gone, I'm not looking too forward to this season. Things sound like they could be decent if Brian Brohm is as good as you say but let's face it, this team will never be the same. Regardless though, the Packers will forever be my favorite team in the world! If they don't make it, I guess I go for a team that just deserves to win. It didn't really matter to me who won the Super Bowl last year but without someone to root for, watching the game would be lame. I was going for the Giants. What a team! Yes they did kick us out of the playoffs but they got to the Super Bowl through hard work and sheer determination. Teams I can't stand are the Cowboys, the Bears, and my all time worst.....the Vikings. (I can kind of put up with the Patriots but not really).

Ha, my beloved Vikes choke again - I watched the same ol' Vikings I've come to know and loathe these past couple of years lose to a Packer team we really should've easily beaten, even in Lambeau - how pathetic.
My only hope is that we have a crappy season so we can ditch our absolutely awful QB (T-Jack aka "T-Suck") and Coach, as well as our incredibly boring offensive gameplan. Then we need to add some real cornerbacks/pass defense and some genuinely talented receivers.
We got a ways to go. Sigh.

The Packers had thirteen penalties against them altogether, which made it much easier for the Vikings to get where they did. Since last year, penalties have been a pretty big problem for the Packers, but one that could be fixed. If the Packers can really make an effort to get away from penalties, then the end of their games will wind up more like the score was towards the end of the first quarter--6 to 17. I think the Vikings just aren't the greatest team. The last game they played against the Packers, the score was 0 to 34.

So that automatically makes them a good team in 2008?
By that logic a franchise could have won the first 10 Super Bowls in history and then lost every game since (over the last 35 years), but they are still good because of what happened decades ago.

Being from Indy and yes I still am riding the high of winning the Super Bowl 2 years ago, my team is the Colts. I know that they stumbled a bit last week but they will get back on track. I actually figured the game would go the way it did. Manning didn't play any football during pre-season. He looked good to a degree, but at the same time, I could tell there were some problems with timing and such.

No, nobody likes a team that cheats. I used to like Brady, but now, even though he had nothing to do with Spygate, I don't like him. But yes, sooner or later, public opinion turns against the winners, and the so-called fans move on to the next great team. It always happens.

The Jets game lat year notwithstanding, the other accusations were all retracted by the accusers.
But you're right, that was just more fuel for the fire in the "I hate the Pats" camp.
To be completely honest, my opinion of Brady has dropped a bit even being a fan. A bit too much of a 'pretty boy' persona starting to come thru for my taste.
I think the Pats are still a playoff team without Brady, as for the Super Bowl... they better be playing their best football of the season if they want a prayer of getting there. Look at how successful the Ravens were for years on just great defense and nearly zero offense. Well, even minus Brady the Pats O is pretty good and the defense, though not 'great' is still near top of the league. A formula that can win... but you have to play the games to find out.

I wish people would quit crying about the hole spygate thing. Did they cheat? Yup. Does it suck? Yup. Was it completely unfair and against the spirit of the game? Yup. Does your team cheat too, whether you know it or not? Yup. It constantly amazes me the amount of Pats and Brady bashing there is now. People hate the Pats because they are winners (a bit smug about it I can admit) and they hate Brady because he (it appears anyway) has everything.

People hate the Pats because they are winners (a bit smug about it I can admit) and they hate Brady because he (it appears anyway) has everything.
Move on.
Do I detect a hint of Bias...Yep!;)
I have no problem admitting that I am biased, that's part of what being a fan is all about. I am just waiting for everyone else to admit that they are biased as well (and with no good real reason)

Delhomme is a decent QB, but nothing special. And Muhammed is not the same receiver he was in the Superbowl year. The Pathers will be in the hunt but the Saints are going to win it this year. But I am biased as a Saints fan. :D
Understandable. ;)
Though, I made my points about Delhomme and Muhammad in the first post.
Both teams looked good in game one. I am looking foward to them playing this year.

Well, I have hated the Pat's since they won their first super bowl with Brady. So I've been Brady bashing ever since then.
I'll admit that I'm bias for my team(s), and end up screaming at the Tv everytime I watch one of their games.
Do I think that every team has cheated ....No.:)

I am not aiti-Brady or anti-Pats in general. As a Michigan fan I was glad to see Brady do well in the NFL. I pulled for the Pats in their first couple SBs (mostly because I didn't want the other team to win -- both being rivals to my team). However, their cheating has tainted those wins in my mind.
Saying every team cheats is pretty meaningless without a discuss of what cheating you are talking about. For example, I may drive over the speed limit sometimes, but that isn't justification for you to rob a bank. Not every team does what they did (some others might -- but I really doubt all do it).

This has been talked about by all the big analysts and 'insiders' that every team pulls stuff like that (filming). The Pats got caught and were reprimanded for it (as they should have been), they were idiots for being so blatant.

I still think they will win 9 or 10 games because they have a pretty easy schedule and I'm not a believer in either the jets or the bills even though a lot of "experts" are thinking those are playoff caliber teams.
I think the Jets have a good chance in the playoffs because they have drafted Brett Favre on their team. I am a huge Packer fan so I'm pretty disappointed that Favre is leaving our team, but I still have a lot of respect for him because of how good he is with the the ball. I know his getting old(For NFL) but I still think he has much left in him.

Vikings - Bears are a mess. Packers lost Favre. Lions are the Lions. Well, there's only one left!
Yeah, that's why they owned the Colts. :D

Hey, it's only one game, though. We'll know more after the Bears play my Panthers Sunday. ;)

I'm not ready to say that the Jets are a playoff team just yet. A lot of people are excited about them when they barely beat the Dolphins (although the Pats barely beat the Chiefs. Uggh, it's going to be a long season).

I never said I hate the Pats. i said I don't like them. There's a difference. And no, I was merely pointing out the reason why so many don't like them. Personally, I think the whole thing was really blown out of proportion.
And no, the Pack doesn't cheat. They're so good that even cheating can't make them better.;)

Vikings just aren't all that good. The Packers on the other hand have the most Super Bowl wins in the entire NFL.
Um, sorry to dissapoint you, but no. Th 49ers and the Steelers both have 5 Super Bowl wins. The Packers only have I think 3, and only 1 with Brett Farve.

Sorry, I got mixed up. I read that the Packer's have the most league championships than any other team, not Super Bowls.

Well I'll say it. I don't like the Pats. The main reasons are the head coach. I think he's a little too arrogant. Also when the Colts beat them in the AFC Championship Brady didn't even have the respect for Manning to congragulate him on the field.
I guess it doesn't help that the Pats whooped up on the Colts a few times in the playoffs before the Colts finally got em'. LOL!
I too was rooting for them when it came to the Super Bowl vs the Rams.
The whole "spygate" is blown WAY outta proportion. All teams cheat in one way or another. The Pats just happen to get caught, that's all.
And on a final note. I think there is something to be said about a team getting grief for winning too much. It's like you get a "hate target" painted on the back of your jersey.

San Francisco 49ers 5
Washington Redskins 5
Baltimore Ravens\Colts 5
Detroit Lions 4
Oakland Raiders 4
Kansas City Chiefs 3
New England Patriots 3
Philadelphia Eagles 3
St. Louis Rams 3
Denver Broncos 2
Miami Dolphins 2
Arizona Cardinals 2

Akron Pros 1
New York Jets 1
Indianapolis Colts 1
Cleveland Bulldogs 1
Frankford Yellow Jackets 1

The Colts' stat is a little misleading, as the Ravens actually have 1 title. So, there ya go. :)
Also, J-unit, along with some help from Shades fan are right on the money as the Steelers (5), Cowboys (5), and 49ers (5) are all tied for the most Super Bowl wins.

Thanks SS for that very informative list of Super Bowl winners! While the Packers do have the most Super Bowl wins of any of the teams in NFL history, it should be noted that most of those were in the sixties (or around the sixties) in the good old days when our coach was Vince Lombardi, and we had amazing players like Bart Starr. If I remember right, the Packers went to the Super Bowl seven years in a row.

And on a final note. I think there is something to be said about a team getting grief for winning too much. It's like you get a "hate target" painted on the back of your jersey.
Yep, any team that wins 'too much' will eventually turn from the everyone jump on the bandwagon Cinderella story to the most vile and evil of all time. It goes in cycles and shall continue.

Yeah I know the feeling. I feel the exact same way about the Patriots. Really though, I could have sworn that the Packers went seven times. There's even a book about it. "The Magnificent Seven. The Championship Games That Built The Lombardi Dynasty." Maybe I'm just confused about what "championship" means though.

Um, no, they don't. The Pack have the most league champoinships, not Super Bowls. The Packers had their golden years back before the Super Bowls. They still are the most succesful franchise in history, but they only have 3 Super Bowls.

It's the same with the NBA. The Pacers won TONS of ABA championships, but I don't remember if they ever won a single NBA championship.
The Pack is my second favorite team. When Indy had no team I would always root for them. So when Farve left, I was sad, but still want to see the Pack win none the less. Or Farve the less. LOL!

Professional Football Championships (league titles):
Green Bay Packers 12
Chicago Bears 9
Cleveland Browns 8
New York Giants 7
Dallas Cowboys 5
Pittsburgh Steelers 5
San Francisco 49ers 5
Washington Redskins 5
Baltimore Ravens\Colts 5
Detroit Lions 4
Oakland Raiders 4
Kansas City Chiefs 3
New England Patriots 3
Philadelphia Eagles 3
St. Louis Rams 3
Denver Broncos 2
Miami Dolphins 2
Arizona Cardinals 2
Buffalo Bills 2
Canton Bulldogs 2
Tennessee Titans 2
Akron Pros 1
New York Jets 1
Indianapolis Colts 1
Cleveland Bulldogs 1
Frankford Yellow Jackets 1
Minnesota Vikings 1
Providence Steam Roller 1
San Diego Chargers 1
Tampa Bay Buccaneers 1
The Colts' stat is a little misleading, as the Ravens actually have 1 title. So, there ya go. :)
Also, J-unit, along with some help from Shades fan are right on the money as the Steelers (5), Cowboys (5), and 49ers (5) are all tied for the most Super Bowl wins.
I believe the Patriots have 4 Super Bowl wins, not 3. 3 of them were with Brady, and the other other one was from a long time ago.

They did not win any others...in 1985 they got crushed by the Bears

Crushed isn't the word for it... mangled is more like it in 86 (85 season).
Then they lost the SB in 95 (I think) to the Packers and of course the most recent SB loss last year. So they're 3-3 in Super Bowl appearances.

Favre's pretty good, but he's no Tony Romo. Ok, that's sarcastic, but with Brady out I think that Tony Romo will have the best season of any QB this year. Peyton's team is banged up with Harrison slowing down and Dallas Clark hurt, and I don't see Favre putting up the numbers he did last year with the receiver in NY (not that they're bad, but I think GB was more talented). With that said, I'm predicting Cowboys to go 14-2 this year given the talent they've added to their 13-3 team and the beatdown they put on Cleveland (a team that had won its last 7 home games---and although Cleveland had some injuries, Dallas was missing its best CB, too). And then hopefully after the season is over the Cowboys will have the most SuperBowl wins of any team (not counting pre-superbowl championships). Don't hate on me for giving my 'Boys some love, its been a rough decade since the Triplets were winning their titles.

Alright, my picks are as follows:
NFC East
Dallas Cowboys- All around solid team that I like.
NFC West
Arizona Cardinals- Probably should have picked the Seahawks, but this is probably my least favorite division, so I picked a wildcard for fun.
NFC North
Minnesota Viking- Quite possibly the best rushing offense/defense team in the league, and also my favorite NFC team.
NFC South
Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Not one of my favorite teams, since I prefer the panthers, but are probably more likely to win their division.
AFC North
Cleveland Browns- I have a feeling that, with the new improvements such as former Patriot's Dante Stallworth, these guys could really shine in the AFC.
AFC South
Indianopolis Colts- Not only do I like this team, but they are a total powerhouse stable. Too bad I also like the Titans and Jaguars...
AFC West
San Diego Chargers- Look out for these guys and the Colts to be the top two AFC teams.
AFC East
New England Patriots- My favorite team in the entire league. It makes me sad that Tom Brady is likely out for the season, and I almost cried when I heard them lose on the car radio. And I can empathize with them on a personal level for reasons that I cannot tell on this sight.

Alright, I'm going to have to formally change my picks here.
NFC East- Cowboys-This is a tough one. The Cowboys (argh) will be good, But I'm liking the Eagles right now. The Giants will be lucky to get a wild card, and there's not much to say about Washington.
NFC North- Packers/Vikings- It all depends on 2 things. One, will Rodgers have a decent season? And two, will the Vikings pass coverage get better? (Okay, 3 things) Plus, will Tarvaris Jackson improve? This division is still up in the air.
NFC West-Seahawks- Not a hard one. Seattle will be good as always, and the rest of the division sucks.
NFC South- Panthers/Buccaneers- This is tough. I think Tampa will still compete, but the Panthers (particularly, Jake Delhome) impressed me last week. Plus, the rest of the division will create problems for these two.
AFC North- Steelers- I think the Steelers will win again, but I bet that Cleveland gets a wild card.
AFC West-Chargers- Not a difficult choice, but the Chiefs didn't look that bad against the Pats (though the Pats are without Brady)
AFC South- Colts/Jaguars- It's all going to come down to, will Manning get ready in time? If not, Jacksonville will have an easy victory.
AFC East- Jets- Now, you need to take this with some bias. (Me being a Packer fan and all;)) With Brady gone, the Pats will still compete, but they were reallly built around him. I think the divsion is wide open, and I think that the Jets made the right trade at the right time. I think Favre's going back to the playoffs.
(Yes nyys, I messed up. That's what editing is for.;))

Um the Chargers aren't in the AFC East, not are the Jets in the AFC North.
I understand the Pats are worse off without Brady but they'r still a very good team, and I still see them taking the division pretty easily. The play-offs are another thing completely, but the regular season will still be a success for the Pats.
You need to watch them week in and week out to know that they are not completely lost without Brady.
As for Favre on the Jets, sure he makes them better, but how much better? I've come to compare Favre to the Red Sox Tim Wakefield (if you follow baseball), when his knuckler is going good he's dominating, but when it's off he's outright terrible which basically gives him a pretty consistent .500 record thru an entire season.
I see the Favre the same way, when his ridiculous no look passes are finding his teammates then you can't do much to stop him, but when those bad passes (and they are bad passes even if they go complete) turn into interceptions that when his team gets destroyed.

Here are my pick's!
AFC East
Patriots- Even without Brady, their still a great team.[Even though I don't like them.]
AFC North
Steelers- One of my favorite teams, they always do well in their division.
AFC South
Jaguars- After seeing how the have been playing so far today, I think these guys have a good chance at going all the way.
AFC West
Broncos- These guys have been very consistant in how they play, and i can only hope that they get far.
NFC East
Giants- After their super bowl win, I don't think anythings going to cool this team down soon, and am thinking that their going to do pretty well this year.
NFC North
Bears- these guys do pretty well every year, and I don't think that will change this year.
NFC South
Panthers/ Saints- It's a toss up for me between these two teams, I just can't tell which is better!
NFC West
Seahawks- My other Fav team, they do well each and every year, and that's not going to change.
Ones to keep your eyes on... Jaguars, and Broncos!

Wow, the Panthers got lucky...the Bears blew it big time...I'm not discrediting the Panthers because they still had to capitalize on the Bears mistakes in order to win, but wow, Greg Olsen really needs to learn how to hang on to the football. Without those fumbles it's a completely different game..

Wow. Talk about an exciting game! Packers beat Lions 25-48. Lions were ahead 25-24 at one point and I really thought they would win. Packers scored a field goal but that put them only two points ahead. Then the interception which lead to a touchdown, putting it at 25-34. I was happy enough after that, but then the Packers scored two more touchdowns! What a game! Even though I want him back, it's nice to know that we can play like this without Favre.

Anyway, yes only two games in, but I wasn't all that far off in how I thought this game could/would go. I think if Cassel and the offense had a bit more experience togther then this could have been a blowout.

Hate to quote myself... who am I kidding I like to listen to mysef read... :) What?
Anyway, yes only two games in, but I wasn't all that far off in how I thought this game could/would go. I think if Cassel and the offense had a bit more experience togther then this could have been a blowout.
Good gravy my COLTS wish to give me a heart attack.
Do you realize they were playing 3 rookies on the offensive line!? Craziness I tell you.
Great win. Now to get those evil jaguars.
GO COLTS!
I think the Colts were very fortunate to escape Minnesota with a win. Eh, an ugly win is better than a well played loss.
Ugly win? No such thing. ;)

This might be my only post in this thread this year because the Lions are slowly eroding my enjoyment for the game of football.
Does anybody know of a way, a legal way, of getting rid of Matt Millen? This madness has got to stop. There is literally only one person in the state of Michigan that supports Millen and that is the freakin' owner of the Lions.
I can't wait for next week's embarrassment when Mike Martz gets his revenge on the Lions.

I thought that the Lions were owned by GMC, Ford, or some other car company. Is that right? In that case, you should start a petition to that company stating that if they don't fire M.M. then you won't go to any of the games or buy any of their product.
He is lame as they come. Not sure how he's lasted so long.

The Lions are owned by William Clay Ford, grandson of Henry Ford. Boycotting Ford cars is the last thing Michigan's economy needs. But we are just starting to see the end of sellout crowds at Ford Field. Maybe a nice string of non-sellouts will get the message across.
Way before my time, the Lions won three championships during the 1950s.
William Clay Ford bought the Lions in 1964. Since then the Lions have won one playoff game. One in 43 years! :frustrated:

Interesting. I usually find that there was some sort of influence that determines our favorite teams. Since we're barraged by all things 'home team' where we live geographically that's usually how we get sucked into it.

For me, it's more about friendships than anything else. I grew up a Steelers fan, and I will always like the Steelers. But I've lived in North Carolina most of my life. When the Panthers came about, I gave them a shot, and they had a great second season and were never TOO bad after that, except the 1-15 season in 2001. I started meeting more and more people that were Panthers fans, and cheering for the Panthers together gave us so many thrills over the years, particularly 2003 on our Super Bowl run (the last time we went 2-0).
Having friends to watch the games with and cheer with really made it special... and really really special when we went to the Super Bowl.
I also believe that going to games can make you a fan. Feeling that electricity, especially at a playoff game, can really hype you up for a team and make you have pride in that team. This is sort of how I became a Carolina Hurricanes fan - going to games with my Dad.
Did I mention the Panthers Super Bowl run in 2003? ;)

I'm quite concerned that my undefeated Panthers lost to an 0-2 team after getting our best player back. We need to bounce back next week to avoid any further locker room semi-panic. My buddy is going to that game (vs. Falcons) and I am going to the Chiefs game the week after that. Give the Ravens some credit here, especially Flacco. We Ravens fans haven't had an offense for years. It was a tough loss, but I was very happy with how the Ravens played, and stayed in the game after giving up 14 points in 15 seconds. That was a great drive to tie it up at 20 points. Had the Steelers not gained good yardage on the next to last play, the outcome of the game could has been much different.

The Titans are a good team, sure, but the Green bay offensive line is better than that. They were awful. Rodgers could barely take 3 steps before feeling the pressure. The defense was good, glad to see Harris back. But the Packers need to get their o-line's issues worked out soon, which in turn will make Ryan Grant the guy we saw last season. Green Bay needs a good running game if they plan on going anywhere, and it's all going to come down to the line.
As for Rodgers, he's been pretty good so far. But I'm concerned about his fragility, and I'm not sure whether he'll be consistent later on. I don't know what to think right now.

I agree with you on the offense, but I was very happy with the defense, stopping the Titans a lot of the time. And Aaron has the determination to be a great player.

With both team winning today we have a HUGE divisional game on Thursday between the Pats and Jets. Even with the loss last week against Indy the Pats defense has been really good of late. Combine that with Matt Cassell getting a bit better each week, and the season may not be lost after all.
They need to get better in the Red Zone though if they want to get over the top.

Well, see, that's the point my Vikings working to develop a good pass-rushing (and rushing) Defense - your offense with Rogers never got a chance to get going. It's not a good thing when your star QB has ZERO passes for a TD. That's a rough game, all things considered. However, that being said, you could just as easily (if we're trying to be fair here) say something similar about that bonehead Frerotte, throwing 3 INTs. You don't win games (normally) that way, either.
I'm just glad we got our revenge - I never really thought we should have even lost our 1st game of the season to the Packers, let alone let this last one stay so close.

Well we had 2 Safeties, for starters, and it was pretty clear to me (and even the two Packer and two Vikings fans watching the game with me) that it was a safety. I don't think there was much of a controversy there.

Honestly, the Packer D was great all game. In the end, they were worn out, but they'd been on the field the whole game. Rodgers... pathetic. Now look. I play football for my high school, and I'm not the QB. But everyone on that field knows the 3 golden QB rules: Don't force throws, don't be afraid to throw it away, and never, NEVER RUN BACKWARDS. No matter how many guys are after you, do not turn around and run. Doing that just gives the other team the advantage. And you especially never do it when you're near your own end zone. What was he thinking? Was he trying to give them a safety?
Sorry, but the Vikings were rotten the entire game too. Those turnovers... wow, those were bad. Who in the world was Frerotte throwing to? (Nick Collins:D) Yes, those plays were awesome, thank you very much. But the D constantly made plays for the offense, gave them the momentum on a silver platter, and the Packers couldn't get it going. It's pretty bad when your defense scores more that you do.
Now, as for that kick. NOT CROSBY'S FAULT. What was McCarthy doing? You don't take your time when there's 2 minutes left. You run the 2 minute O. And even though he wanted to let Crosby kick it for the win, get moving, and take off as many yards off that kick as you can. 51 yards? You really think he can just chip it in?

We'll definitely have to agree to disagree on one part of your comment, Ty. Most pundits agreed that it was the Vikings who had the game in hand the whole time and who could've easily run up quite a decent score were it not for Ferrote's screw-ups. Your defense did get 3 Ints, fair enough, but other than that they couldn't stop the run at all and allowed our anemic passing game an easy TD right at the start of the game. They also barely got to the QB.
No, this was definitely a game that the Vikes had the opportunities to win or lose and we got lucky that we didn't hand it over to you guys.
If I had to grade both teams, it would go like this:
PACKERS
Run Offense = C-
Pass Offense = D+
Pass Defense = B
Run Defense = D-
Special Teams = B+
OVERALL GRADE = B- (only due to the INTs and Special Teams TD)
-------------------------------------------------------------------
VIKINGS
Run Offense = A
Pass Offense = C-/D+
Pass Defense = B-
Run Defense = B-
Special Teams = D-
OVERALL GRADE = B/B-
-------------------------------------------------------------------
The difference was just one player, in the end - Adrian Peterson. I do think that it being a home game and with the Vikes tired of losing recent games to the Pack, that it came down to who wanted it more. Of course two feet to the left and you win the game, so who knows!

I'm not sure whether to be utterly disgusted with how Jake played Sunday (his completion percentage wasn't even a good batting average) or delighted that with a fugly game from our quarterback, we still won the game! Thank God it was the Raiders.
D-Will ran great and the defense was just awesome, especially considering they were on the field most of the game. Jake can get a pass next week if he comes out with another clunker, since we've got the Lions, but it's at home, so I see him rebounding well.

This statement is 100% correct. I own him on a fantasy team and opted to start Ben Roethlisberger that week.
What Brett offers is all of his Farvarian experience. Sure he has thrown a few more picks than touchdowns over the past couple games, but none of them put their opponents back in the game. That has been the Jets problem over the past couple years. It goes like this; they score enough points to win, let the other team take the lead, force the ball, give it away, and finally
lose. With Brett the Jets are a smarter, more patient team.

Which is actually very strange, since Favre is normally a more aggressive, risk-taking QB. But even though his numbers aren't great, he is making a difference. (The biggest difference is that the Jets D is much improved, and the O-line is stable)

The Jets won Thursday and that's all that matters, but the Pats kept shooting themselves in the foot all night. They should have been up 10-14 points, instead of driving down field for a game tying TD at the end.
Look at the numbers Cassell put up in the losing effort, they were incredible... The one Pats turnover wasn't forced by the Jets, Ben Watson knocked the ball out of his own hands. Also the bad snap that resulted in a 25 yard loss that stopped another deep drive.
Win is a win in the standings, but I think the Pats more gave it away than the Jets came in and played great.

Collins is not the only surprise this year. Our rookie running back is remarkable. After drafting Haynesworth about 6 years ago, the Titans have been horrible at picking first round draft picks. Griffin, our db last year, and Johnson, our rb this year, seem to indicate that our first round picks are improving. :D

What a depressing loss yesterday. We got outplayed by a "lesser" team. Now, due to a tiebreaker loss to Tampa Bay, we're not even in first place in the division anymore. Our schedule only gets tougher, too, so making the playoffs isn't even a guarantee.

I don't see the Jets as a much-lesser team, if a lesser team at all. Most sports writers are pretty impressed by them. I'd be glad that your Titans have the record they have - we should've beaten them too. I'm not saying that they're not a great team this year, they definitely are but the playoffs will truly show how much progress they've made.

I think the Jets are nothing more than a 'hot' team right now, but sometimes that's all is takes (just look at the Steelers in their Super Bowl year).
They beat the Pats two weeks ago in NE, but if you watched the game you'd know the Pats gave the game away. I said before a win is a win, but there's a difference between beating a team and the team beating themselves.
As for Yesterday, the game was tight pretty much the whole way, but that was quite the spanking the Pats put on Miami in the end. You know that Bellichick was looking for some revenge when they went for it on 4th and goal with 30 seconds left in the game and already up by 13.

The NFL really needs to get over this Dallas and Detroit play every Thanksgiving thing. Not such a big deal with Dallas right now since they're a good team and can be fun to watch, but who the heck wants to watch Detroit other than the good folks from Michigan right now?
I think they should do what they do with the current Thursday night game and reserve the right to change the schedule (with enough warning) to assure a good game (I think it's the Thursday game they do this with, might be Sunday night football on NBC not sure).
Regardless, they should wait a good 6-7 weeks into the season to see how things are shaping up and then announce the Thanksgiving games, assuring at least one marquee match-up or at the very least interesting games. 10-1 vs 0-11, yeah this is a good idea.

There might not be Thanksgiving day football if it wasn't for the Lions coming up with the idea. Besides, it's all we have left to hang our hats on right now. Do you want Detroit to lose the Big Three and the Thanksgiving game?!?

The NFL really needs to get over this Dallas and Detroit play every Thanksgiving thing. Not such a big deal with Dallas right now since they're a good team and can be fun to watch, but who the heck wants to watch Detroit other than the good folks from Michigan right now?
I think they should do what they do with the current Thursday night game and reserve the right to change the schedule (with enough warning) to assure a good game (I think it's the Thursday game they do this with, might be Sunday night football on NBC not sure).

...and they will forever get the credit for being 1st. Wow that was a bad game today. What was with the challenge flag though (by Tennessee) with three minutes left in the game?

Wait a minute... don't tell me you were actually watching the game at that point. Heck, I'm a die hard Lions fan and I gave up in the first quarter. (I know, so did the Lions. har har)
But to answer your question, you would think that at that point Jeff Fisher could have kept his challenge flag in his pocket. Or was he afraid of one of those infamous Lions comebacks?

Yeah, I was watching, everyone was in a turkey comatose at that point, but since I only ate the Italian dishes I was the only one alert. :)
That challenge was pretty lame IMO, though I guess I can't really complain with the way my home team ran up the score during some games last season.

God Bless those Panthers!
What a great Sunday for Vikings fans - first the Packers choke (we saw it coming though) then we WHUP up on those Bears. (Though I vastly preferred the Bears to the Packers anyday so the victory wasn't as sweet as it could be).

Pats maybe need to start thinking about the 2009 draft. Maybe a top 15 pick to improve the aging defense and get your all world QB back for next year... not bad.

:grrrr: Well, you can't win them all. Or in this season, you can't lose them all.:x Pretty good game, all in all, and congrats to the Panters, I guess they deserved the win.

That was not a good game. At all. Carolina decimates Green Bay in the first quarter and a half (maybe both quarters, I forgot). Then the Panthers D decides to take a break and let Green Bay catch up. Apart from the last few drives from the Panthers, I thought neither team played very well. At least not consistently.
Well, we're out of the playoffs. The stats say no, we're not, but my heart says yes.

Also, hey everybody!:D We had to put in a new floor, which meant moving the computer, which in turn meant no Internet. But, I'm back.

Sweet, the Vikes avoided losing to the Lions. I was doubting them for most of the game but T-Jack actually looked decent in the 2nd half. I suspect the Lions will beat the Packers, especially the way the Pack has been playing as of late.

Yay Seahawks!
I don't know if I should be excited about a nice comeback win on the road by the Pats (vs Seattle), or be ticked that they almost lost to a now 2-11 team.
Nobody wants to win the AFC East, three teams at 8-5 now.

I doubt it, there's only one scenario where they can catch us - they need to win 2 games and we need to lose 2. Pretty unlikely, dude. Sorry man.

After Atl spanks that arse on Sunday, Bears and Vikes will be all knotted up. Then the Falcons crush the Rams at home to secure the number 5 playoff seed and roll into Arizona. With the Falcons running game I woud expect them to easily win. The following week they would most likly play at Carolina, more than likely ending thier season.
12-6 with a playoff win= one hell of a season.

I doubt they'll "spank" anything, we've consistently pounded them in the dome and they're not a better team than the Vikings when the Vikes are firing on all cylinders - which they currently are.
Furthermore, we were one of the three teams that whupped up on the Panthers earlier in the season. If you're going to lose to them, you're going to lose to us.
Then viola! We win the NFC North. ;)

I wouldn't call it a "whuppin". One less great play by Antoine Winfield and we might have won that game. A.P. got shut down, didn't he? ;)
