Sweet!! those could go for a bit on Ebay to make money for more customs.
P.S. where did you find those battleaxes?

Nice work. I like the Wash you did on Denrick; a wash like that on the knights could make them distinctly Black Knights.

if you have a sir hawthorne, i'd like to see a squad that follows him.
Oh and i love the blood on denrick. Not too fond of the hair (hair right?) you added to him though...

:wtf!: I know I posted to this thread earlier and it vanished. :?:
Anyway, great work on the knights! They have a mean and dirty look like the knights in Boorman's Excalibur. I particularly like the figure with the double bladed axe.

Those are REALLY cool! The shields look amazing, and the 'grit' really helps bring out the battle worn feel. I would like to see some other shots of the Denrick mod. It looks like there is blood on his arm and sword, but from the angle in the picture above, it's hard to see what you did with the sculpt aside from the helmet.

Thanks for the compliments and responses. My replies from yesterday seem to have disappeared too.
Annerios: Funny you should mention Excalibur. I've seen that movie a million times and it always runs through my head (along with the Wagner theme music) when looking at these guys. I always thought the official Hasbro knights looked a little too goody-goody, especially Denrick, and I wanted to make some changes to them so that they'd look like battle-hardened, bloody, bad-ass fighters. I -did- like how they gave one guy a warhammer (swords are a little boring when everyone has one), but knew I had to get some battle-axes and maces in too.
I am planning on washing a couple of squads of knights so that I can use them with my new Sir Hawthorne (see below). I have four squads total, so that's two for Denrick, two for Hawthorne. My gf and I already had a knight vs knight battle last night -- Denrick and the above knights vs Hawthorne and his -- and man was it fun. Was using a lot of Excalibur battle dialogue at the time. :)
K/H addict: the ponytail thing you see on Denrick isn't supposed to be his actual hair. It's supposed to be a horse-hair tail attached to the back of his helmet that I added to further distinguish him from his men and to give him a little flourish.
Here are a couple more pictures. These are of Denrick and Sir Hawthorne. Wish they were a bit clearer and did the figures more justice, but you get the idea. As you can see, I'm a big fan of blood. ;) I mean, this is a game that's all about men running around a battlefield hacking each other to pieces, no? Again, I can't help but think of Boorman's Excalibur and knights in shiny plate armor bathed in gore.

Moral of the story? Why pay $30-$40 bucks for a Hawthorne that is nothing more than a cheap Knight of Weston repaint when you can make your own that looks just as cool if not cooler in a couple of hours?
I'll try to post my Hawthorne black knights in a few days if anyone wants to see them.

I knew that was the influence; I've seen that movie a million times too. I never get bored of it :D
I like to use some gore and dirty up my figures. I don't like them clean. I could not stand the look of the Omnicron Snipers until they got a wash and some battle hardening. Sci-fi units benefit from that as well. That is one thing the GW painters do a great job on.
The photos look damn good on my monitor, btw. So keep them coming. You do great work.

I like these knights better than the original ones. Less shiny, more badass. Good guys should have badasses too.
