Just checking to see if anyone wants to start an HS group in Albuquerque. I have a small group that plays very irregularly but would like to get a group that meets at least once a month. We can meet at AI on Fridays or Saturdays. PM me or post here.

Just so Newb can find some friends. Keep trying, the WA/OR thread took a while to pick up, and then suddenly I had a bunch of people over for Heroscape.

Thanks, Bunj!

I know there are people here that play because someone other than me is buying the HS stuff off the shelves when it appears.

Newb. That's hoe I feel about this area. I know that the Lynnwood Walmart got 6 castles in, I bought one, but I don't think anyone else that has posted on this forum purchased castles from that Walmart. So where are all these people!?!

C'mon, surely there's someone local who wants to experience 84 zombes, shuffling through a sprawling dungeon layout with Sentinels blasting them left and right?!?
All the while playing amid the beautiful backdrop of the Southwest American landscape@
I'd love to join you, NewB if only there wasn't that distance problem.

Isn't New Mexico a pretty desolate place? Maybe that is why you can't find anyone to play with?

Just kidding. I actually grew up in Albuquerque. (Sandia High School, Class of '89) Moved away to go to graduate school and never loked back. Sometimes miss things there though....(open space, endless horizon, mountains...) but I digress.

I know of at least one other HS player in Albuquerque. He plays with his son mostly I think. Maybe he is the one buying up all the stuff in Alb.? I will have to ask him if he has ever been to Heroscapers and have him check your thread. Not making any promises but just giving you a ray of hope and letting you know you are not alone there in New Mexico.

Unless you are him???

LilNewbie
February 12th, 2007, 05:27 PM
Don't think I'm him but your ID loborocket could be a clue to having some ties to Alb, NM since the "Lobos" are the UNM mascot. :D

OK LilNewbie I will be in Albuquerque April 2, 3, & 4 leaving the morning of the 5th. So I will be up for a game or two any or all of those nights. I will be at the Sheraton Uptown ( 2600 Louisiana Blvd NE ) are you anywhere close?

Let me know.

Not a tourney in sight here.

And I am moving in a month, so I will never have the chance to participate in one in New Mexico.

As a side note, one of my friends was telling me that he played at a HS demo in the Albuquerque Active Imagination. Do any of you fellows know about that?

I live in clovis NM, and we have about four of us that play pretty regularly, and three more that jump in from time to time. But we dont get up to ABQ much cause its a 4 hour drive.

Fall might be a better choice for us.

TexMex
May 5th, 2007, 01:33 AM
On the positive side, I may have recruited 4 new players :D I was talking to the husband of a colleague of mine, and he's been contemplating getting into the game. Both of them are fantasy freaks, so I told them to definately get it over the summer; they may come back to Vegas in the fall as 'Scapers :) Then, this evening, I met a couple of guys at the Target in Santa Fe who - like me - were shopping for expansions. Also like me, they were new to the game, so I told them to check out this site as we're looking for more NM players. Not to mention that my fianceé beats me half the time. So, before too long, we may have a nice semi-local group. Here's hoping

TexMex
May 10th, 2007, 03:41 PM
Well, I'm going to do my best to keep this post active for any new players. My fianceé and I had another couple over and taught them how to play last night. They loved it :) Problem is they moved away for the summer but may not come back at all :( I guess I'll just have to wait 'till the fall. In the meantime, since we've been talking about the fall for a get-together/tourney, I thought I'd get a little poll going on location and date. As of now, September or October look good, but my travel range extends about as far as Santa Fe...since Las Vegas is a bit outta the way for most of y'all

MKSentinel
May 10th, 2007, 06:27 PM
Sep/Oct sounds good to me and Santa Fe sounds promising. Need to find a venue...

TexMex
May 23rd, 2007, 10:05 PM
Yeah, a venue might be a task since I don't know Santa Fe real well. The first thing that comes to mind is this game store at the De Vargas mall. Oh! And there's another one down town. The former may not be so great - as they specialize in Warhammer and don't even sell Heroscape. The later may not be big enough...Any other ideas?

So I just got married and will be returning to NM in a couple of days with Heroscape expansions from afar - zombies, Kaemon Awa, another Volcarren Wasteland, etc. So my new wife and I will have some sweet new sets to play with. So...are the two of us and MKSentinel the only NM 'Scapers left?

It looks like nobody has been on this thread recently. I have been playing the game and love it. I have mostly played with my girlfriend, but would like to learn more and play with some others. I have slowly gathered a small army with several terrain sets.

One note, a new batch of Flagbearers arrived at TRU a couple of weeks ago and disappeared as quickly as they appeared. Obviously, someone is playing, and/or trying to sell these overpriced figures online.

Welcome to the game pinche_guey,
We did want to organize an event here and NM but were quickly faced with two problems: 1) we all live in different cities and 2) a lot of us were gonna be away for the summer. So we decided/forced to decide to discuss it further in the fall. So keep checking in the comming months. I'm sure we'll be able to pull something together.

Hello,

I am in Socorro and there are a few of us here that play. Mainly it is myself and the guy that got me into this game that own the stuff and about three others that play.

None of us make to ABQ as often as the short drive would seem. Mostly we play when someone decides to call everyone else up for a game. As for people buying the sets here locally, most people I have found buy it for their kids to use as straight toys and have no idea that this is a game.

Of course, March is a ways off to plan, but there is Spring Break to consider so that might be a good time. Until then, I'm just hoping something will be put together nearby for Heroscape Day. Lemme double cheak w/ locusts on tomarrow and try to goto the inqusitive again, mostly because I found it once so I can probebally do it again,

Say 530 or 6PM at the inqusitive, I still might be a little late w/ that depends on when I get off work, but nothing too bad.

We may have to cobble maps togeather when we get there but I have access to 3 RotV, 3 SotM, 3 Rttff, TT, FotA, and a VW, lets say 500 pts

do you know if we need to ask them (The Inqusitive) before hand if we can play there? I couldn't find a phone number on there site

Hey everyone! I recently moved to santa fe, and was looking for players in that area, but i only play marvel heroscape, and will only play with people using only marvel characters because my parents and I don't like all the undead zombies, wizards or whatever is in the normal HS, so if you live in that area and are willing to play be those "rules," PM, otherwise, sorry.

P.S. I may be able to occasionally play in Albuqueque, but if you live in santa fe, all the better.

Hey Surfer,
I think we can all appreciate you and your parents 'Scaping preferences, but you're probably limiting yourself on players - especially since there aren't that many in NM to begin with. You might think/talk with your parents about playing against other who might use the non-Marvel characters while you stick with the Marvel figures. But who knows, with the first Marvel expansion on the way, an all-Marvel tournament might appeal to others. But that's just my :2cents:

The Silver Surfer
February 11th, 2008, 05:02 PM
Actually, I recently bought a RotV Master set, and my parents said all those characters were fine, so any character in that master set, or characters that expand on those characters (such as the soulborg set) are fine and I can play with those charaters, so I hope that opens more opportunities to play with some other 'scapers in my area.

P.S. It's probably fine to use any human, elvish, or robot type characters, but just to be sure, PM me what characters you would like to use, and I'll let you know if those characters are fine, but either way, I still prefer marvel characters just because THE MARVEL UNIVERSE TOTALLY PWNS!!!!!

Sweet!

This means that that there are other people like me. I knew there had to be some hardcore scapers in Burque, because somebody is buying all the Wave 8 common packs from Wal-Mart.

I just started playing in Dec. 07. The boosters grabbed my eye the first time I saw them a few years ago. It's wasn't until I saw the new master set and they restocked all the boosters at my local Wal-Mart that I HAD TO BUY. I think it was Krug that did it for me. So now I spend my lunch hours running to stores all over town in hopes of finding HeroScape product. I know I could save gas and get a better selection online, but I love the hunt!

I rarely get a chance to play. Against anyone older then 8, anyways. So, I would love to get in to a little more competitive play.

I'm in the ABQ uptown area so hit me up if you want exchange some ego boosting for battlefield experience. This could be done in a kid friendly setting or in a bar, I just want to play.

I look forward to hearing from… anyone!

You raise a good point, Surfer. I'll pose it to the movers and shakers and see what they say. Let's see, there was, if I remember correctly, about a three month period between "large" get-togethers (I believe they hold more regular, casual ones), and we've been about a steady 6 months between tournaments. I know Lil Newbie wants to have another release day party for Wave 9, but who knows when that'll be.

Off the top of my head, the next best time to get together for us will be the last 2 weeks of Dec. and the first 2 of Jan., but only because that's Christmas break. After that...Spring Break? I'll post it in the other thread, and see what we can do in the way of setting a general date far in advance.

But on a side note, if I had a demo during November or December, would anyone be able to come down to help out (a.k.a. hope nobody shows up, and play scape for a couple hours with me)?

Hey Surfer,
I'm not sure how your parents would feel about it, but if the only thing that kept you from being able to go would be not having a ride, I'm pretty sure my wife and I could pick you up on the way. The only down side is that I reward my wife with shopping in Albuquerque after these tourneys:roll:

As for a demo day, I could probably do one in mid to late December. But November and early December are pretty much out of the question, as I'm a teacher and my wife's a student (which means we'll be gearing up to/grading finals:().

I was serious, bud. And as of now, the 10th still looks fun. However, that's still pretty far in advance to make concrete plans for us. It's possible something could come up to keep us from attending:-(

Hey great news! My parents said that if the tourney does happen, they'll find an excuse to go down to Rio Rancho, so I can definately make it this time (if there is a this time), so it looks like I won't be needing a ride from TexMex after all.

I found a game store that will allow me to do a Demo for free, all I need to do is let them know when I want to have one, and they'll plan on it. Unfortunately, it only has enough tables for about 4 maps, but for a demo that should be great.

I second this. Lil'newbie has traditionally run these gigs, and done a fastastic job at it. If he is disposed of that day and others want to get involved, it may still fly. I will still try to attend, but won't be able to help run the event on that day.

I was at The Inquisitive in Rio Rancho yesterday (bought the Marvel set to go with my RotV), and they said they were planning on a tournament mid-July to celebrate Wave 9. Yeah I played a few games with D&D, I thought it was ok, really like the scenarios.

No local tourneys to keep the passion alive, though, that's what I blame it on. I'm seriously considering selling my stuff because they just sit in the closet.

Things are way too quiet around here. Is it the heat?

DeathDoom

TexMex
July 13th, 2010, 09:54 PM
My wife and I actually really like the D&D set. Playing with just that, we can set up, play, and put away a quick match.

I think having so many options makes it more difficult to just "pick up and play." Our last few matches I've limited the map size, and it makes our games small scale but enjoyable.

I too would be down for a game day, but I realize Newb always shoulders a lot of the responsibility for those. What could we do to help, Newb?

Last time I was in there it was mostly a war game store - has it changed much in the past couple years?

JayMust
August 5th, 2010, 12:25 AM
Probably 1/4 - 1/3 of their inventory is Warhammer or other war games, more if you count Heroclix, Heroscape and D&D minis. The rest is board games, RPG, and Magic. Of course the original name of the store was War Games West. They usually have 7-10 Scape items on the shelves. Probably less than that now that I've started playing.

Honestly, the Inquisitive had a better selection of Scape.

I stopped in the other day.

Definitely a minis war game place. They had a some board games, but they were definitely slanted towards minis war games - meaning they were either practically self contained war games or a step or two from that.

The layout is really wide open though. There's a lot of playing spaces with some of them quite large. Four or five places with tables set up.

There was also computer gaming areas and a little area set up with some big screens that had cable and video game systems.

I didn't look into prices since I'm not much of a minis gamer (weird allergies to tape measures in games and a complete lack of talent for painting), but it seemed like it's going to become a pretty good place to game if a couple groups can kick start the scene there.

Sadly my Heroscape group is rather small still I have not gotten ANY replies. LOL This is almost worse than living in Las Vegas New Mexico and trying to gather players for a game LOL Anyway I host games out of my home I do meet people who don't know me in public first so then know I am not some weirdo or anyhting. If there ever needed to be any more of a reason to join mygroup it is this....We have a mini fridge stocked to the brim with ice cold drinks and an entire cabnet with loads of snacks in our game room. So even if you are from out of town all are welcome!

Damn, damn, damn, damn, damn! I hate the social scene in this town. :(
