View Full Version : Are armoc vipers worth it in your opinion?

I am always debating on this unit whether or not it is worth taking in my Mittens army. Mittens, aubrien archers x3, armoc vipers. Or mittens, venoc, EOV and aubrian archers x2? I love the EOV but I do enjoy a good mitten bonding. What are your opinions?

I've used this army with a fair amount of success:
Venoc Warlord - 120
Armoc Vipers x 2 - 130
Aubriens x 2 - 140
Total - 390
It's a tight army that can really put the hurt on an opponent quickly.

Really? two armoc? Even though they don't frenzy or are scouts?

I like to take at least one squad of them when I use the Vipers. Since you don't want to lose your Frenzy/Scout bonus, usually Mittens doesn't get in the thick of things until late. By then it's really nice having a squad of Armoc to help Mittens with any remaining squads and swarming heroes.

They are tough and using the Warlord bonding correctly they are well worth it. I almost never play a common squad as a single squad....they are more valuable when using multiples.

Yea, Go mittens in late game. That's why I'd like to have 1 squad on armoc, for mitten backup for endgame. But then no room for EOV in a 400 pt game.

no way.
in a point-by-point analysis, they are simply not worth it, IMO.
Losing Frenzy and getting 3 defense & Bonding with a not-too-powerful hero (who's prime benefits don;t require him to be in the fight) is not worth over 50% more points cost.
(edit in the defense)

They do also have the ability to survive an attack that managed to roll a single skull as well...

The Armocs are pretty Vanilla, but, hey, if snakes are your thing...... ;)

snakes are my thing. I love the viper armies, including some non viper figs that may benefit fro the VW (aurbrien's, therascus, maybe dan or syv.) but anyways I think it mostly depends or your style of play. These are my style of play, and I absoulutly love using them. I like using any snakes, but the armocs have bonding, slither, 7 move and 3/3 atk/def, they're worth it. a pefectly balanced squad.

ok just ask the ppl who've played me when Ive used the venoc setup:
Mittens, 2xarchers, 2xarmocs....
4 games....3 wins....
and aye the dice gods need to be with ye..
but even just getting frenzy half the time is killer..
and bonding with Mittens(Venoc warlord) is also.. ye use the armocs and WL to tie them up and than the archers to take them down..
cheers

We call the Venoc Warlord mittens beacuase he is the only unique hero with the non specific name, which is one reason why hes my favorite hero.

I really like the idea of helping Mittens in the endgame. I usually reserve him too, partly to keep him alive as a Glyph of Lodin for Frenzy/scout enhancement, and partly because he is a kickass warrior to mop up with. He is even useful to try to take out Grimnak, especially if he has higher ground and Grimnak is wounded. Yes, he can be chomped, but if he can wound Chompy at least once before that, then he has served a purpose beyond his support status.

I always thought the Venoc Warlord was called "mittens" because the things on his hands/claws looked like mittens.

I think I'll try 3 aubrien archers, 1 armoc, and mittens for a 395 pt army. I love the archers. I love mittens for the late game, and having him bond is great. I love the EOV but they do not bond. Although I will be very sad that mitten's scout ability will not be used at all in this army. That +1 on frenzy rolls is essential tho.

The Warlord is great. I've never seen him done wrong when drafted. Fast and attack-worthy especially if he can get height - and usually can with that 7 movement. I think it great to be able to bond with him, but I've only taken 1 squad of Armocs at a time. The Aubriens and the Venocs are just too much fun with their frenzy for me to draft a second set of Armocs.

Yeah, I'll agree. The Armocs don't Frenzy and they're not scouts, but the bonding, slither, and defense(!) makes them worth 65 points. I'll need to try 2 or more squads of them someday.

yes I am, I love these guys, If only I had 3 more squads of them, my record with them is 2-1, but my only loss is cuz my semi avergae defense rolls, and I only lost by 2 arrow gruts.

The Armoc are a decent unit. Their bonding is somewhat limited at this time but they have decent stats (3/3 without any restrictions or needs for bonus to the stats and 7 move is nothing to laugh at.) I plan to paint a spare set with some red drybrushing and make them royal guard to Mittens.

I love the idea of the bonding snakes, I think havintg them at 65 makes it an odd Number where you pick 2 of them, pick something you may not want, or have to give up 5 pts out of your army. I think for bigger battles where you can afford to draft 2 of them is where they really shine. Say over 600 or 800, where you can really get the whole bonding thing going and make it worh drafting mittens by having lots of frenzy guys. I have had a lot of games where the bonding at the end with mittens and the boys is plenty to finish up the game, having the bonding at the end of the game is big most of the time.
I love the frenzy guys and mittens, use them way to much, bu they are the funniest to play, IMO.

I just played a game with 3 aubrien, 1 armoc, and mittens. It one, although barely. My opponent knew what my army was so they picked rapid fire DW, micro corp, 4th mass, and agent carr. I was getting annihilated because of the DW. I frenzied a lot but I jsut couldn't take the stupid thing down. I lost two full aubrien squads to a micro corp and a 4th mass before I finally took down the DW (This was after 9 turns of straight aubrien/frenzy time) Once I took down the DW I was on easy street and crushed the opposition by gaining height and raining down death. I brought in mittens and armocs as well when I though the last aubriens were gonna go down. They tied up Carr and the 4th, and I shot them down with the Aubriens. It was a great comback after a really annoying few turns

That DW8K will take down your Aubriens. I lost 2 squads to it in a game that was very similar to your match-up.
