View Full Version : Idea for Marvel General Name
Dragonranger
May 28th, 2008, 03:51 AM
Ya know I've been working on my personal spreadsheet for Heroscape, and it includes Marvelscape characters, and under Valkyrie General, currently I've got "Marvel" as the name, but if (and this is a big if) the Marvelverse was to be represented in the War, who would be their "Organizer" the way Jandar and the others collected their troops? Then it hit me, that there was only one who has seriously gathered people together for a "Secret War"... the Beyonder. Just think since he can pluck any Marvel character from throughout the timestream and bring them to one place and time, why not have him be named their "General"? Lemme know what you think.

The Valkyrie general for Marvel would be named Stan. He would be a small little man, have an annoying voice, and think he's much more important than he actually is.

Don't forget about the Contest of Champions mini-series with Grandmaster and Death.

I mainly think the Beyonder cause it was his power that drew all the heroes together for the Secret Wars to try and understand Good and Evil. And HSisforcoolkids don't down Stan Lee just cause he's the surviving half of the original Marvel Duo.

The General should be more known as "The Man" and know that he is actually as that important.
On another note, I doubt it would be the Beyonder, since all the other generals summon soldiers that would be loyal to them. The Beyonder picks up people he thinks he can use as playthings. None of the superheroes/villains would be actually willing to fight for him. If anything they would switch sides to another general as soon as they met. Plus, as a person, the Beyonder is a little--shall we say, unsteady.
Theoretically, there are any number of people in the marvelverse that could fill the roll better. Dr. Strange being one of them (of course then all of the armies you build would have to be the secret defenders). Uatu could be another, as he has been known to bend the rules and "summon" superhero types do go do something, while he kinda disapears to contemplate if he has gone to far in said rule-bending. However, my money would go to Adam Warlock. He's incredibly powerful and has habit of gathering soldiers together to fight an enemy or just for a cause (Infinity Gauntlet, Infinity Watch, the new Guardians of the Galaxy).
Anyway.... yeah... that's my comment.

In Beyond! the Stranger gathered heroes and villains for kind of a mini-Secret War.

Actually I think they should have General names like Kirby, Lee, Ditko, Simon and Romita. ;)

Stan would also have a cameo in every HeroScape Scenario.

Stanlee
:rock::rock::rock::rock:
Or mabye, on a note of a real superhero - although Stan Lee is - it could be Jean Grey because she is the only reported Level 5 mutant. Which is above Magneto and Xavier (level 4) who are two of the most powerful ones *calm down - in and out - in and out* Ok....im good.

My votes for "the one above all" which is basically the in comic allusion of jack kirby, or the living tribunal. I think that uatu is also a good choice mainly because he brings marvel characters together in "Marvel Ultimate alliance" half way through.
The name of the army's are the generals names. So wouldnt general Nick Fury be a good choice.

Hulk was a founding member of the Avengers, though and Beast was a founding member of the X-Men, so I'd think their allegiance in those groups would hold more weight. I do agree with your overall point, though, even if I don't feel you selected the best of examples.
How about, for instance, Superheroes known more for their solo acts than anything? Spiderman has technically been a member of a group or two (New Avengers ... Fantastic Four fill-in ...), but he doesn't really seem to belong to any of them as much as he belongs out on his own.
Onacara

My statement was more so to show that you cannot put them in groups based on teams. Exception would be the Fantastic Four (and I mean the original 4 not She-Hulk or any other incarnation) or any other self contained team.

This is pretty straightforward, there should be several Marvel Generals and should be treated as a seperate battle from the Valhalla battled. They should be canonical, so...
Prof. Xavier
Magneto
The Mandarin
Nick Fury
Doctor Doom
And if they NEED a sixth, make it Dr. Strange or Reed Richards.

I find it amusing how this conversation continues when the line itself has ceased before it got past the first 10 characters.

Okay for mutants
Good guy to be Prof. X
Bad guy though is definitely Apocalypse
For Spider-Man
Good guy general Spider-Man
Bad guy general has to be Carnage which is pretty much venom only red and a heck of a lot stronger, faster, more flexible
As for other Marvel Characters i have no clue

If one could make specific Generals for each group of Marvelscape heroes we'd probably see what was done by Wizkids. What I'm talking is just taking the blanket of Marvel universe and giving it a single unifying figure. I like the Uatu idea, concidering he watches over everyone, good or evil. Living Tribunal is also interesting. The Man of course I personally really like.

Apparently there are 4 elder Gods that created the Marvel Universe.
Gaea, goddess of the Earth
Chthon, god of black magic
Set the powerful serpent god
Oshtur, goddess of the stars
I got this info here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elder_Gods_%28Marvel_Comics%29) on Wikipedia. If this info is true, this could make for a very cool and similar story as Thormund's Journal in Valhalla. Only, instead of Thormund and Drake Alexander telling the story it would be Thor and Captain America.8) I think this is your best option.

OK as the customizer making Amalgam units ( shameless plug) you also have Spectre from DC and Living Tribunal from Marvel who are the guardians of the universe for each publishing also have the power to pull beings from somewhere else and would make good generals.

Practically everybody has been on multiple teams. Venom and other villians sided with Ironman on the Pro-Registration side of the Civil War.
They really had evil ambitions for it though. Venom and the rest only joined to;
1. Beat up hero's who had thrown them in jail lawfully.
2. Get reduced prison sentences for the horrible crimes they did.
3. Some like Green Goblin who couldn't be trusted but was needed, where forced using nanomachines.
For Spider-Man
Good guy general Spider-Man
Bad guy general has to be Carnage which is pretty much venom only red and a heck of a lot stronger, faster, more flexible
A couple problems with that;
1. Spidey isn't really a good leader....or more, he doesn't like to be.
2. Carnage only allies with people just as bloodthirsty and psychotic as him, and would quickly go on a rampage. Especially as any Venom cards would be under him......and Venom and Carnage hate each other.:jotun:
I vote for them being seperated by team. And not having a 'General' name. For example; the X-Men where lead by Cyclops, and Professor X on different occasions. Also, the Avengers really had no leader. They where a democratic evil fighting well-oiled machine.;)
So for any cards I make, I'll change per card probably.
