This game is going to be great! After San Andreas, I am really looking forward to some more great fun.

If I were to design a game, I would definately use the GTA-type open sandbox to do what you want, any time you want.

I'm just killing time until the game comes out, then I'll just be killing everyone in Liberty City.

I can't wait, but I won't be buying it new. I never buy new games (well, except for Halo 3). And I'm even going to enjoy GTA4 more than Halo 3, but I'm still going to wait, probably a year or so. So I guess I can wait, but I'm still very excited.

I'm waiting until the end of the college semester until I purchase a copy. All of my friends on PSN (Playstation Network) are buying it. So I can look forward to some really cool Multiplayer gameplay as well as the single player. Although with past GTA games I tend to tire playing it after I get done with the first level or city.

Oh man, yeah. I sold my PS2 guitar hero a couple weeks ago on craigslist and am using the money to buy GTA next week. I'm super excited because I usually don't buy new games either. My 360 has already paid for itself in terms of Halo enjoyment, so this GTA is just icing on the cake. :)

I am heading over after work on Monday (since it'll be 12:30am, technically Tuesday) and picking this one up for sure. I've always loved the GTA games and this one looks so sweet! The multi player looks awesome on it as well. I actually just renewed my xbox live gold service again just to play this online. 1 more week and I soooooo can't wait!!!

How much do I love the GTA games?

I bought an XBox when it first came out and then realized that they didn't make GTA3 for it so I went back to the store and bought a PS2 also.

But they ended up making it for Xbox anyway.

I'm fine with GTA3. I just bought it so I could play "Run over 50 people and then run away from the cops". I'm kind of dissapointed that I have to unlock the other parts of the city though.

This game is freaking SWEET!:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:
I ended up picking it up when I got off work around 1am here, been playing it ever since. I was going to check out the multiplayer first, but caved in and have been playing the single player story line. Enjoying it very much!! It seems different, yet the same. The little things they added are sweet as well. I noticed after driving around in a nice car that it had this onstar like service, telling me where to turn. You can even turn on the brights on your car while driving around at night. Tons of mini games it seems as well, I've played some bowling, an arcade game, and some darts, and I know there are more to play around the town. The town is HUGE and very life like. I have a feeling this game isn't coming out of my xbox for months.

I love the way they have multiplayer set up on this. One minute you can be playing the story mode, you get stuck, you make a call...BAM, you jump into a multiplayer game. The modes are pretty sweet as well. I was playing a bit of some Cops n Crooks last night as well as some Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, and did some Racing around the city. I am thinking about checking out the Turf Wars later when I get home from work. I need to start playing some ranked games too, I was told that as your rank goes up, you actually unlock more online game modes.

I still can't believe how big this city is this time around. I've been just running around and have yet to find a hidden package, but then again, it seems you can pretty much go anywhere in this game. I can't wait to actually go on a helicopter tour around the city, but have yet to find one.

I've hated all previous installments of GTA. Don't ask me what it was about them, but I've hated them all. Then I heard about GTA IV and just dismissed it as a hi-def version of III. Man was I wrong. GTA IV looks sweet, plus you know Krav-Maga! I was amazed by it since the first trailer. I'm definitely giving it a go whenever I sign back up for Gamefly.

I tried the multiplayer for the first time early this morning and it was total chaos. Someone setup a deathmatch with only rocket launchers and 16 people. It was hard to stay alive for more than a few moments sometimes, but totally hilarious. It also seems like a good mode to play to get your ranking up to have access to more multiplayer player model features.

I tried cops and crooks, but it was a bit disorienting with people not communicating with each other. It may be more fun to play with friends, so you can coordinate better to achieve the goal.

I think I had the most fun with Team Deathmatch so far. It is pretty intense and funny. There is nothing like watching your enemies get sent sprawling after getting hit by a car at 100mph.

The single player mode has been pretty mellow so far, with a surprising amount of emphasis on the social interaction with other characters, etc.
I say "mellow", for the most part. Last night some punk on the street insulted Niko and started getting violent after I stood close to him. Following a baseball bat to his skull, I somehow got involved in avoiding the cops on a 4 star wanted level for around 15 minutes. I survived and got a fat 50 achievement points for it as well. ;)

There is so much to do in this game, that I'm sure it will keep me busy for a long time.

Multiplayer hasn't worked for me yet whether I use my router or wired connection! I'm playing it on the PS3 and it had an outage on the second day it was released and still doesn't work for me. I'm sure it will get fixed eventually, but I can't wait.

So far though I'm loving the single player, although it feels like the other GTA's where you either kill someone, take someone somewhere, or pick up a package. All things done before... however, the story is still awesome.

I'm on the 360 version and have not had problems connecting; although I have run into some nasty lag in some sessions. Last night I was in a game and had a chopper dead in my sights with a rocket launcher when some nasty lag kicked in and made me miss multiple times! It was like the chopper was teleporting all over the screen.

I was surprised that the single player story has been so character driven and slow in terms of action for a game that most people know the parameters to already. It works for the story, but I'm sure GTA vets want to get through those initial missions to tackle the more challenging stuff.

I tried to jump islands and triggered a 6 star cop manhunt (as usual), but there are some nice underground subway tunnels to hide in. Unfortunately, that wanted level does not seem to go away even when you are underground and no cops can see you. If you get outside the cop sighting radius, suddenly a vehicle driving above you will appear right over you and trigger it again. Pretty lame. I'll have to take a motorcycle in the tunnels and see if I can avoid it.

I haven't tried multiplayer yet, but man is this game awesome. The levels of detail and engrossment are out-of-this-world cool. The engine Rockstar used when people get shot is unlike anything I've ever seen. I thought ragdoll physics was the best gunfight physics we'd ever see.

Wrong! :johnwoo2:

Yeah, I made it all of two days after the release. It is a fracking blast though.

I'll have to add you to my list. I'm having a lot of fun with the multi-player as well. You can add me as Annerios, just like here. I only play really late at night/early a.m. for the most part, however.

I tried one of the co-op missions and the free roam for the first time early this morning. The co-op was challenging with just two people and so many enemies, but we made it through.

I am always looking to get some practice or increase my rank.

I found a pretty funny website in the game the other night. You gotta check this out! Go to a computer in the game and go to the website www.littlelacysurprisepageant.com (http://www.littlelacysurprisepageant.com)
LOL that's funny too. I didn't want it to become an actual link...but I clicked it anyway and it takes you right to Rockstar's GTA4 website.

I was walking down the street and this guy finished his "froppalattechino" or whatever the **** they call "coffee" these days and tossed his cup right behind him where I was walking. I picked it up and tossed it back at him. Unfortunately for him, it hit him in the back of the head and he was walking next to one of those railings that lead to lower level apartments. The idiot stumbled forward and fell over the railing. Some lady ran over and said something and when I looked down there he was dead (although the fall was only like 4 feet). So, yes, I accidentally murdered a guy with coffee cup! Niko is as much of a badass as Riddick with his tea cup. :p

Hah, there are so many great moments when playing this game!

A friend came over last night and wanted to see the game, so we just took turns playing around and completing a few missions. I was really surprised at how much fun it was just to watch another person play. We were laughing and and having as good of a time (maybe better!) as if we were playing some other game multiplayer.

My one random story:

My friend had just picked up the controller and decided to mug a guy. A cop saw him and Niko jacks a car, as I tell my friend he's got to get out of the flashing circle. He hits the gas, rams into a fence as he (accidentally?) jumps out of the car, bounces off the fence under the car as its popped up in the air, and is crushed instantly as his PMP 600 lands on his body. All this happened really fast...we were both totally shocked. I foresee many more fun times with this game.

Here is a good one from multi-player deathmatch. My wife got ambushed by an opponent with a rocket launcher. He fired at her feet and she flew into the air. She thought she was dead, but instead her seemingly lifeless body flew over her opponent and landed behind him. The guy was so focused on killing the next person, that he did not notice she had survived! She promptly emptied her SMG clip into a guy who was probably wondering what on earth killed him! :p

I definitely agree about it being fun to watch people play. I have seen some hilarious stuff happen.

For those of you playing the PS3 version, apparently you can change your player model in multi-player into a zombie wearing a R* speedo! :p

http://www.gta4.net/news/4104/zombies-in-multiplayer-gta-iv/

Supposedly if you press L1 in the player model screen you can switch between clothed and zombie mode.

Sadly, I don't think there are reports of zombies running around in the Xbox 360 version yet.

Now, if they included a cheat that turns all pedestrians in the city to zombies, that would be amazing (like the Long Night and other mods for the PC versions of GTA).

I have a ton of great multiplayer stories. One of my favs took place last Tuesday night. I was in a game of Free Mode, bunch of us just running around messing around. We ended up taking to the sky and there were about 5 of us in Annihilators. We decided to start having an air fight. I took down one guy and then another guy slammed into my back propeller. Snapped it right off, which put me into a death spin. I decided, well...it's either crash or jump, so I jumped. At the same time I jumped though, my helicopter was a bit side ways and the next thing I know I hit one of the blades, which shoots me over towards another Helicopter. I am already dead, but the respawn is set to like 10 seconds. Before I disappear, I slam into the other Helicopter's blades and it sends me flying again. Next thing I know I am being shot way out towards the Time Square area. Was hilarious.

Another one happened today. Was playing in a Team Deathmatch game, 8 vs. 8. We were getting hit hard and almost 2 grand behind in cash. We were in the Bohan area (though the game was set up to be played anywhere in the city) and the other team had the one train station on lock down. A bunch of us kept trying to take it but we were getting shot down with ease. Finally a couple of my team mates ended up going out to the airport and jacking a couple helicopters. Next thing I know, I see them rolling in, 3 in all, and just started blasting the guys up on the train tracks. This gave us enough time to launch a ground assault. Before we could even get up there though, my team mates ended up crashing their helicopters onto the roofs of the train station, the explosion from all three ended up taking out most of the other team. We ended up taking control of the station and holding it till the game was over. In the end, we ended up winning by about 3 grand in cash.

but ist ist in some way to easy . for me it is easier to get killed in a cop rampage or suciside. after that you have all yor weapons . but if the cops get you alive you loose al weapons.

but one thing was bad after nico get out of ammo he throws the gun away. so you must buy a new one.

Annerios

Yeah I sadly discovered that when I ran out of shotgun ammo. Did anyone else think it was strange that when the guy gives you a "bat" to go intimidate the pottery shop owner he actually gives you a shotgun? OR was that just a glitch in my copy?

I lost my mini-uzi and the AR-15 that way until I noticed it.

I don't think I had that bat/shotgun thing happen. I've had a shotgun right from the beginning of the game from jacking parked cop cars to accumulate shells. That is a handy trick.

For those that want to play with fire, there are molotov cocktails on the boardwalk lookout point where the bowling alley is at. Even tossing those incites the cops. You can tell the paranoid climate in this Liberty City versus the old one. Pedestrians call the cops on you right away and there seem to be cops all over the place.

I know! I got busted once, and I hope that was the last time. The couple times a cop has gotten me to put my hands up since then I've freaked out mashing the "escape from the cop" button.

I have always loved the GTA games (bought the first one in its first week of release), and have, 2 minutes ago, bought an XBOX 360 for the sole purpose of owning GTA4.... Amazon had a buy-both-save-$30 deal, and i figured, what the heck. It's all my savings (tax and stimulus is sitting in a bank account earning interest, so not touching that for an impulse buy).

But hey, whatever I can do to stimulate the economy <_<

Hope to be enjoying some moider early next week.

Has anyone seen the Car Cannon (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wa-uClkuj9U) glitch? It's pretty fun! It will pretty much launch your car all over the place. The glitch will work at any swing set, but for some odd reason, everyone only talks about the one (shown in the video). I used to go into free mode games, talk 3 guys into getting into my car....without telling them what I was going to do. Then showing it to them first hand. It's pretty hilarious to hear the comments afterwards and usually always gets everyone else interested in watching/doing it (if they haven't already done it before). I posted the link in another thread, but figured this would be a prime place for it. If anyone knows other good locations of swing sets, please please please let me know! I found one out in the open in the northern parts of the middle map, but have never found the place again.

Yesterday I picked up an achievement I thought I would never get: Let Sleeping Rockstars Lie.

It happened so fast (it was my first kill on the map) that I did not even get to see the user tag of the person as I fought off other attackers. Still, it is cool to see that the developers (or people using their accounts) are floating around out there for the killing!

It's a viral achievement now. If you kill someone who has it, you get it. It's been online for about 2 weeks or so now. Once you have it, go into player model and press LB, this will change you into the Zombie Skin (All you wear is a yellow rockstar speedo, and then you can change glasses/hats).

I forgot, anywhere here into playing party mode? I am always up for some ranked matches with a group of people i know (or somewhat know lol). Chances are, if I am online, I am up for ranked matches. I know a few guys I normally party up with, but as of late, most of them have been off playing other games (mostly CoD4 it seems).

Yeah, I keep telling myself "I am gonna beat the game now" yet I keep spending all my time in multi-player. I am almost rank 7 now and got 500,000+ in cash from just Team Deathmatch. I am pretty happy though, after checking the leader board, I am currently ranked 213 in ranked team deathmatch in the overall category.

You're a beast! You're genetically different! :p

I think you'd murder me and then some. I topped off at Rank 4 so far and I think a lot of that was mucking about in Bomb the Base and other Co-op modes.

The stuff that goes on in the GTA races is some of the funniest multi-player gaming I have ever seen, but I can't make any money at it. :(

I'll probably get back into the multi-player soon. I need to wrap up the most wanted missions and some other loose ends in the game. I'd like to do the stunt jumps. I'm not sure if I'm hunting all of those pigeons down, though (even with a map). I have Lost Planet Colonies coming in and the multi-player from that title's demo hooked me. I'm sure that will be tempting me away from GTA some.

Overall the story mode was entertaining, but it does get repetitive in parts. No matter what goes on, you feel like a glorified errand boy in this game, albeit one with a penchant for murder. At least there are some missions that mix things up, give you access to buildings, etc. For a character that does everything for money you would think there would be more to spend it on like in Vice City. You get story hints that his money helps Roman with his business, but they never dock your money for anything like that, etc.

I saw some recent info on Saints Row 2 and even though I had no interest in the first one, the second one looks like it is going to have a lot of features I thought a next gen GTA would have like complete character customization, more weapon choices, and more fun activities.
Bowling, pool and darts did not thrill me.

I love GTA Racing! Some of the best games I've been part in, have happen in this style of a game.

Once we were having a 16 player race, in supercars (go figure, seems all that is ever used anymore), playing the "Stars in your eyes" track (Which is a figure 8 track through Star Junction (Which is Time Square in NYC). There are always buses parked up and down the roads here. 4 guys, right as we started, all rushed out and grabbed one. With 4 buses now being used, they proceeded to block the road ways. Two of them would basically drive back and forth, making it so there was a moving gap you'd have to drive through to make it through....or slam into a bus. Next block up, the other two were doing the same thing. It was actually very hilarious....some people were yelling at them, getting very upset...think one guy left, but most of us were laughing hard.

Another good track to play, Horse Punch. It's another figure 8 style track, this one tacks you around and through Middle Park (Central Park in NYC). It's fun to start massive pile-ups of wrecked vehicles on the bridge that everyone has to cross twice to get to the finish.

Free Race can also be pretty interesting. Everyone starts on foot at point 1 and has to go to point 2, how you get there is up to you. Weapons are placed all over the city, same locations as a normal deathmatch with all weapons. It's pretty funny to see a small group fist fighting right at the start, or someone making a mad dash to the nearest gun to try and gain a couple kills (Usually me if I can help it hehe). Cannonball Run, which is basically this same concept, only with check points throughout the city, is also really fun.
