Days of Wonder has finally announced the long-awaited (at least by some) carrying bag for the Memoir '44 game system. It seems to be designed to hold the various game and expansion boxes, but I'm sure it will also be able to hold plenty of plano boxes or other unofficial storage. Although this is a bit of a disappointment in that I was hoping they would provide storage containers or compartments for the various bits and pieces, the upside is that it includes a new doublesided map board in what is called "breakthrough" format. The MSRP is $40 which means you should be able to find it eventually for around $30. I'm on the fence with this at the moment as I am now able to store everything MM44 in the original box and the air pack box. Plus, I've thrown away all of the other original packaging so I would need to buy plano boxes, etc to actually put the bag to good use.
Here's a link to pre-order it:

That's a nice 'official' accessory.
Too cool.

Recycled? Is that better?
If I know that I will neither use the box, nor will I sell or return a game, then the box is history. Now, most of my games are stored in the original box, but the expansions for MM44 come in the most pathetically thin boxes with space-wasting innards, so I consolidated everything into the master set box and the air pack box, which happens to be a good quality box. I also knew that a special carry-all box/bag was on the way, so yet another motivation for pitching the boxes.
(for extra entertainment value, reread that paragraph ala Michael Palin in the Monty Python skit about the new mail box grand opening.)

The only heroscape boxes I have are unopened master sets.

I bet you threw away videogame boxes and instructions too, didn't you?

I like the bag idea especially when they had the foresight to allow two of the base games to be stored in the bag. I'll be tempted to pick this up after it releases but won't preorder it.

No, I actually keep the video games in the plastic boxes along with the instructions (although I usually throw out the sheet that warns you that playing video games may cause seizures.) Now PC games usually have the boxes chucked since they often come in a jewel case (or at least they used to. It's been a long time since I've bought a game for the PC)
If it is any consolation, I did keep the box for the Tide of Iron Expansion, even though it is completely empty. But that is a very nice box. :)
My basic philosophy about boxes is this (wow, I didn't realize I actually had a philosophy about boxes), if the box is functional I keep it. If the box will not be used I pitch it.
New washing machine - the box is pitched
New toaster oven - the box is pitched
New digital effects unit - since it will go into a rack, the box gets pitched
DVD - I keep the box as it provides attractive and functional storage
CD - same as above
Board game - same as above
Expansions to board game - if I can fit the new stuff in the master set box, then the box gets pitched (with the exception of TOI - see above)
Hmmm, this could be a good blog topic. Maybe I'll post an article about this next to my other articles that no one reads.

I wish I could throw away the boxes....I don't know I just can't :headshake:. Yes...I kept all the thin cardboard boxes for the Memoir '44 expansions.

Do you use them or are they just sitting around empty? Just curious. I actually kept the pacific theater expansion in the original box for a while because there was no room left in the master game box. But once I got the air pack I did some reorganizing and away went the PT box.
If someone is truly a collector, then obviously it would be foolish to throw away the boxes. I just like to play games, so I'm not worried about resale value. I'm more concerned with keeping things organized and eliminating clutter. Gaming is only one of my hobbies, so I need room for other things too (like 8 guitars, keyboards, e-drums, recording equipment, misc amps, etc)

I'm a collector, so I try to keep everything as close to original as possible. The expansions for Memoir '44 have a plastic hold box inside with a thin cardboard box and then another thin cardboard overlay covering everything.
I'm kind of perplexed as to why they chose to have such breakable material for the expansion boxes. I guess they assume everybody is going to keep them in the main game box.
I can't wait for the bag!

I need to see one of these bags. I'm wanting something to carry games to game days, but it has to be able to carry them flat, not on their side.

You just need to mug the Domino's Pizza guy next time he comes to your door and snatch his little pizza warmer bag. Those are perfect for carrying several games. Not only is it padded, but it also keeps your games hot and fresh. :D It would especially good for Pizza Box Football (http://boardgamegeek.com/game/17851) !
The MM44 bag is designed for the boxes to fit sitting on their side, so it probably won't work for you. The link in the OP has pictures showing how various MM44 boxes will fit into the bag.
Note: The first paragraph above was intended as humor only. In no way do I condone violence against pizza delivery guys. Unless, of course, the pizza is late. No wait...that was also a joke.
