It's a good series and I am eagerly awaiting the third book. Any idea when it's scheduled to be released?

September 20 2008. http://www.alagaesia.com/
This is the website that Paolini made for the series.

and then there is the fourth book. Sadly the movie and finding R.A. Salvatores Drizzt kind of killed these books for me.

I never saw the movie due to the running time on it. I saw it was like 80 minutes long and I knew the book would get butchered along the way.
And yes, R.A. Salvatore's Forgotten Realms novels rock - especially those containing Drizzt!

Star Wars and Lord of the Rings merged by a former 15 yr old and nowhere near as good

Reading Eragon is not unlike eating fast food: You know that what you consuming is bad for you, yet you keep on doing it anyway because it happens to feel good at the moment. Of course, about two hours after you have finished you start to feel queasy, but I don't really want to get into the details...

But Eragon is an excellent book, why would you say that?

It's exactly the story of Star Wars, except in the Lord of the Rings universe. There's absolutely nothing unique about it.

While I see similarities, that is saddly mistaken. True, they are similar, but you can you say Lord of the Rings and Star Wars are you unique. Both of there "worlds" have been done before, and both follow the typical heros journy. Not that they are bad.

The worlds have been done before, yes, but that's beside the point.
At that time, the stories were unique. Eregon simply takes Star Wars' story, almost exactly. I saw the movie, and could predict exactly what was happening. Even the parts that weren't similar to Star Wars were too predictable to be really good. The entire thing felt shallow to me.
And I have a very strong feeling that Eregon is the evil emperor guy's son.

We don't need another Eragon thread to have the exact same discussion as the other thread...
