Okay so I really enjoyed this thread over at the HQ. I really didn't think many other people liked it all too much but a couple people said they liked it. I let it die once because there was talk of too much off topic posting. I had planned on keeping it going over there but, its gone. I guess it got lost in the great server change. So we will start over, I will apologize ahead of time if we repeat something that I already did, the other thread had my list in it.
The lists might not change everyday but they will change periodically, so keep an eye on it :)
I will keep the list of all the lists here so you can see them all and post any Top 5 list you want.

First off, I love all the ladies!
And I'll assume you've never been to Japan. Let's just say those school girls you fantasize about so much, lack the necessary shaving skills to be on my top 5 list.
As for the 4th of July, what could be better than good food, beer, girls and class 3 explosives?
You have much to learn of the world my friend...enjoy your summer.

I've been there twice, once for work and the other for vacation. From the American side you can't really see much because the Falls are on this side. Plus Canada's gambling and drinking age is only 19. Are you 19 yet?

Reap, how can you agree that The Buggles were a one hit wonder w/ "Video Killed the Radio Star," when their greatest song, "Clean Clean" still rocks on at my house. and daev, "You Spin Me Round" by Dead or Alive, a group with several other hits, can't be called a one hit wonder. A cool song though.
Now, being a child of the 70's and 80's, here's my one-hit-wonders:
5. More Than a Woman--Tavares
4. The Boys are Back in Town--Thin Lizzy
3. Big Country--Big Country

First order of business - summer. Things I like about summer in Texas:
1. There is no number 1. Because I absolutely hate every single thing about summer in Texas, without exception. Girls actually wear more, since the office will be over-air-conditioned. Texas summers are the absolute worst I have ever experienced, and when I say that, I know of what I speak - I have spent summer in equatorial Africa.
Second order of business:
HEH, one word - bullocks! God Save the Queen was a hit, yes, but what about Anarchy in the UK? And sure, they only ever imported one album to the US, but My Way (the Frank Sinatra sort-of-a-cover) is a regular in my iTunes lineup, was my introduction to punk rock, and has even played on Buffy the Vampire Slayer (Spike listened to it). They're less one-hit-wonder than Iggy Pop (not really, just being controversial).
Third - my songs:
5. I love that Taco song. 'Come let's go where Rockefellers...' All skate!
4. The Buggles - Video Killed the Radio Star
3. I Come From A Land Down Under - Men at Work
2. Unbelievable - Three letters, but I don't know which three. EMI? PMS?
1. Safety Dance - Men Without Hats
I love Safety Dance. One of my favorite songs. If I thought about it, I could probably come up with more, but I'm sleepy.

IMAX, I will continue to educate others on the genius that was the Sex Pistols. My Way was actually a Sid Vicious cover not a Sex Pistols cover. It appeared on The Great Rock And Roll Swindle (movie and album) as well as Sid Vicious' solo album.
Men At Work, were the first group to have a debut album with two number one songs on it. Sorry, IMAX, they were far from a one hit wonder. Who Can It Be Now?, Down Under, It's A Mistake, Overkill, Dr Heckyll & Mr. Jive, etc.
Men Without Hats only other hit that I can think of was Antarctica or something like that so I would consider them one hit wonders.
I totally agree about summers in Texas. Any summer that you lose track of how many days it reached over 100 degrees is rediculous. To think I use to enjoy it in my days of youth. Dang teenage hellcats...

And of course Men at Work had other hits. Hell, I was there. I went to dances where he tried to look cool while dancing to Who Can It Be Now. I can't believe I didn't remember that.
Men Without Hats, though - Doc, what else did they do that was a hit?
How about that Dramarama song, the one where he goes, 'I'll give you diamonds give you pearls give you pills - anything you want, hundred dollar bills'? I can't think of another Dramarama song.

Sid Vicious while notorious had lttle to do with the music genius(?) that was the Sex Pistols. really between him Nancy Spungent and the Manager who's name escapes me right now destroyed the Pistols. The music and song had all been written and recorded before Sid joined the band replacing Glen Matlock and if you at the credit on an original record you won't find his name on it. A true to life rock n roll fantasy as Sid Couldn't play a bloody note, and as his rendition of My Way show couldn't sing either. In the documentary movie The Fifth and the Fury, Jonny "Rotten" Lydon goes into great detail about Sid. That's a must see for all Pistols fans.
Edit: The manager was buthole Malcom Maclaren.

No, you're correct, Anarachy In the UK was definitely a hit. I was drawing a blank on that. But the Pistols are still one hit wonders in my book. Not in the true sense of one-hit wonders, but ah well, you know where I'm going!
Men Without Hats also did Pop Goes the World. A song my wife loved when I first met her and I almost ran in the opposite direction when she told me this!

House of Pain's real big hit was Jump Around. I never even heard of Faster ***** Cats. The Surfers might qualify - they never got airplay until Pepper, but they were around for a very long time before Electric Larry Land.
And while I absolutely love Safety Dance, I have to change that one, too, because they also did Pop Goes the World. Which is a dumb song, but it was a hit.
And Todd - I also assumed they meant electromagnetic field. Because I was (and am) a big dork.
So revised list:
5. Right Said Fred - Too Sexy
4. Shriekback - Nemesis
3. EMF - Unbelievable
2. Taco - Puttin on the Ritz
1. Buggles - Video Killed the Radio Star

4. Pepper - Butthole Surfers (I think they qualify, although I don't know if the song was tech. a hit?)
That's a hit. My wife listens to the Denver 'hot rock' station on occasion and I still hear that song on their rotation once in a while. And I never grew tired of it either, nor the novelty of the Butthole Surfers being on the radio, kind of the same thing for me as when the Red Hot Chili Peppers started getting airplay (I watched the movie 'Thrashin' ' at just the right time in my young life when I was so starved for anything about skateboarding that I was able to enjoy that movie for more than just its campiness - and I genuinely liked the Pepper's 'Black-eyed Blonde' performance.)
I've often wondered if the title 'Pepper' was a reference to the Chili Pepper's mainstream success. I never paid any attention to the lyrics of the Surfers song, just the sound.

No, you're correct, Anarachy In the UK was definitely a hit. I was drawing a blank on that. But the Pistols are still one hit wonders in my book. Not in the true sense of one-hit wonders, but ah well, you know where I'm going!
Not trying to make this all about the Pistols, but....
The Sex Pistols were much too influential on music in general to be limited to a moniker of one hit wonders. The same would go for bands like Kraftwerk (Autobahn). Kraftwerk was a blip on the Music Hits radar screen, but they were the fathers of synthesized music. Both of those bands help to shape greatly the music that came after them.
I think I am letting my years of music store management show through...

And I totally agree with Safety Dance - I love that song. I only cut them from the list because of Pop Goes the World.

Imax,
"House of Pain" is the name of the song which was sung by "Faster ***** Cat's".
Bannister the name of the Band is 'Faster Pussycat' and that not even close to their top hit that would be "Bathroom Wall" followed by "Cathouse" from their first album. House of Pain is from their second Album 'Wake Me When It's Over'. These guys were tipical California 80's Hair metal. The biggest claim to fame is that lead singer Taime Downe owned one of the nightclubs most of the LA hair bands hungout.

5. Grunge in general. I just have never had any desire to listen to this kind of music, and the fashion style just looked sloppy. At least in the 80s, people looked well-groomed.
4. Like HEH said, annoying comics trends. Foil covers, alternate covers, perforated covers, die-cut covers - sometimes all at once for the same stupid comic, so collectors ended up buying 2 of each. Bastards.
3. No more English pop. I loved 80s English pop.
2. Recession. In 1993, California (where I lived) was getting hammered, and there were no jobs. I ended up joining the Navy because I couldn't find work.
1. The Country Craze. I friggin hate country music, but in the early 90s, it was all the rage. You would see total tools wearing Garth Brooks shirts and Tony Lama boots to go two-stepping, despite the fact that they were about as country as anime.

the best thing... the internet and drum'n'bass/jungle.
the seventies and early eighties were a fantastically exciting time when creativity still mattered and not everything was judged by openning weekend sales. i was absolutely miserable in the 90's until around '98 or so when you could finally start to feel things change in all these areas.
and i agree especially strongly with a couple comments already made....
1. star wars was awesome in the eighties despite all the marketing crap. it was in the 90's that the star wars marketing team went insane and took over everything. adding dumb crap to the "special editions" didn't help and then the prequels just proved it was dead and the damage done to the franchise in the 90's was irreversible.
2. what happened in the nineties where crappy bands starting stealing the genre titles from good music to make their music more marketable and ruined the genre? "rap" music decided to suddenly call itselft "hip-hop" and killed all the good hip-hop acts like the digable planets. "grunge" (also known as "crap") took over the modern rock/alternative label and killed the good stuff left over from the eighties. and somehow goth and industrial became the same thing? was this because of the crow soundtrack?
i like real goth/post punk/new wave/whatever-you-want-to-call-it like the [old] cure stuff, skeletal family, joy division, old siouxsie and the banshees. because of crappy bands stealing the name its hard to separate the good stuff from the crap they sell at HOT TOPIC.

Pogs
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Pogs (also Milkcaps) is the name of a popular game that was popular from the early-to-mid-1990s. It got its name from POG, a brand of fruit juice (made from passion fruit, orange and guava); the caps of POG bottles were originally used to play the game. Pog originated in Hawaii around the 1930s, and was repopularized when the Canada Games Company reintroduced them to the American mainstream public in the mid-1990s, where they became popular with pre-teens. It is possible that the game traced its origins to the Japanese card game called Menko. [1]

Okay...I thought I would never ever admit this....ever...but I used to collect and play pogs....sigh...
You stacked them up, all face up. Then your opponent took their "slammer," the metal pog and oddly enough, slammed it down on the stack to flip them over. Then you did it. The ones that flipped over they got to keep. Who ever flipped over the most won. And got to keep whatever you were playing for...
I can't believe I remember how to play that game...sigh....

The original POG game was played on the island of Maui in the 1930’s. Kids used little card board disks, that came with milk bottles, to play. Back then they got their milk in a bottle from a local farm, instead of at a store.
With the help of a school teacher, about 15 years ago POG became popular again. The teacher remembered POG from when she was a kid. All her students thought it was a cool game and it spread until soon kids all over the world were playing!

I had Right Said Fred, too. I like Adam Ant, but he also had Viva Le Rock at about the same time, and Desperate But Not Serious.

I could be way off base here, but I thought that "Is This Love?" was Whitesnake - Different song entirely, same title.
and "Rockin' in to the Night" was 38 Special - Same song, .38 Special's version is not the earlier one, Survivor's is.
Amazon.com is an invaluable resource. You can see the publish dates of the CDs and listen to clips from the songs. I was a huge Whitesnake fan when they were all the rage and Tawny Kitaen was doing whatever she was doing on that car! They are completely different songs w/the same title, both hits.

I spend a lot of time surfing the net and have lots of websites that I like to read and/or visit. These are the ones that I like to read and or use a lot.
Perhaps I will post some more later. I will also try to come up with some more lists so that I can make this a daily or bi-daily thread.
Top 5 Non-Heroscape Websites
5. http://www.exitmundi.nl/
4. www.slashdot.org
3. www.fark
2. www.imdb.com
1. www.boardgamegeek.com

5. http://maddox.xmission.com/ - Every now and then I like to go read this sarcasm and biting wit that makes me laugh out loud.
4. http://www.sxc.hu/ - I don't visit every day, but when I need free, high-res stock art, this place is a life-saver.
3. http://www.schlockmercenary.com/index.html - My absolute favorite webcomic.
2. http://www.boardgamegeek.com/ - Duh.
1. http://www.theonion.com/content/index - It's not news, but it ought to be.
Nether, you need another one, unless you really just plain love slashdot.

Well, it's going to seem as though I'm borrowing from above, but:
5) Espn.go.com (Bill Simmons is a must read for me.)
4) www.m-w.com (I used to consider myself a good speller, but now I've got this crutch and I'm paralyzed (I had to look up the speeling for that, as I had reasonable doubt that it was *ized :) ) when it's available.
3) www.lastplanetojakarata.com - where I go for music criticism
2) imdb.com - essential for all my 'tip of the tongues' to do with movies.
1) www.iresis.com - I'm a realtor, this is my listing service :)

WEBSITES
5. Ebay. Horay for cheap stuff you can't find anywehere else.
4. Google. I am one of those people who thinks "what was that one song/show/person/idea" and it will drive me crazy til I remember. Or for the 30 seconds it takes to google it. Also can be quite educational.
3. IMDB. I like movies quite a bit. The ratings and comments are fun to read, and the fact that everything is linked makes it really great.
2. Boardgamegeek. I less-than-three board games. Very much. The reviews and opinions are invaluable. I have almost 60 traditional games plus many CCGs and there's little else I would rather do with my time than play games. This site tells me the best places to invest my hard-earned cash.
1. Wikipedia. I can kill hours and hours here and learn while still having fun. I can express my knowledge and share it with the world. I can learn about absolutely anything. WP is the collective knowledge of the English speaking world in an easy to use format. It is the culmination of what the internet was always intended to be.

TOP 5 NON-HEROSCAPE WEBSITES
NikeTalk.com : The premiere Nike community. Amazing how much leaked info about upcoming shoe releases is posted on this board!
DeviantArt.com : True, this place has straight sold out since it first began, but you can still find amazing artwork here... even some of my old images!
IGN.com : My favorite source of eclectic information! Video games, comics, movies, and more. I go there often and drool over the media they have about PS3 games.
ESPN.com : Not sure I need to explain this one. Though ever since the inclusion of their streaming media, it's even better!
YouTube.com : Good times, because you never know what you're going to find. Though if you are trying to find some sort of movie file, it's most likely here.

zapatopi.net - Join the sasquatch militia, and protect the Republic of Cascadia
slashdot.org - The forums are starting to bore me, but I still go there for the stories.
