Who's your favorite fighting Greek? I really like all of these cheerleaders - nice color scheme (dig the copper-colored shields!), pefect fighting poses, and cool shields (did you notice that the official site's Sacred Band images have no red snake emblem on the shields?:?) .
Does anyone know if people reenact this period of time with these outfits? I've seen reenacted Romans legionnaires on the internet. I want to see what the heck those Sacred Band are wearing on their heads! bucket hats? Helmets? They seem cumbersome and not very convienent for the soldier's line of sight...
My favorite is the bottom left soldier - #3 on the polls. I just like his poised-for-action sculpt the best. 8)

hex- but #3's shield goes better with the +1 defense bonus.

I like number 2. He looks like he's taunting a squad of 4th mass from 7 spaces away, knowing they won't move closer and forfeit their attack bonus. :poke:

First of all let me say, these guys rock. I love them Parmenio rocks. they are so much fu to play with. I go with marcus parmenio and 4 squads of these. It is just killer. They easily took down kug, mimiring and orc archers x3 today, and also finished off a VW, armorc vipers and aubriens x4 too. Its crazy fun playin with these guys and they might be my favorite army now. they kick butt.

That's interesting. Thanks for your input on your Disciplined army, Feek!
I definitely think Decimus should be in the mix for the extra movement and the opportunity to get an additional attack dice.
But I think a good disciplined army should have some range too. I'm figuring the AE are a shoe-in. The Roman Archers are just not my thing with that defense - but of course I'll consider them when the castles arrive.
I need to start a 'disciplined' thread some day...

Ya I tried it with the roma archers yesterday, they suck nuts. They are good hero killers because of their special, but crappy squad killers, and remember parmenios special, so you dont have to pick a disiciplined ranged unit cuz he can fix that.

I spent one evening of our 4 day vacation in the mountains figuring out some 400 -500 point disciplined armies. Parmenio is in all of them. I've tried different combinations of who he could change over to 'disciplined'. Kravs come to mind and the DWs.
I really want to make a Disciplined army that I'm happy with, but if I come up against Braxas, Microcorp, Syvarris, etc. they're not going to be too good if I can't protect them with some ranged units of my own.

BTW, does anyone think the 30% chance at Defy Death a better option than the Legonniares' Shield Wall?

I think it is. I like the legionairnes a lot less than the sacred band now. they have one less defense, they dont have to be bunched together, and they have a pretty good opportunity @ using death defy. sacred band for me, plus their sculpts are awesome. I think Im going to try the kravs, AE dw 8k and syvrris tommorrow against them to see how they fair (yes I know that its greater than 400 points). I would like to see if they could out beat range.

I've played this squad a few times.
I really want to like them. But I don't.
I usually play 500-600 pts, you'd need a lot of them to be worth it to me.
BTW, my guys have an emblam on their sheilds.
I've never seen the "Blank" sheilds before.

Yes I think that anything 500+ may be a little out of their range to do damage, you need a certain amount with them to be succesful not too much, not too less. I think 500 pts maybe the limit on them, maybe 550.
I really like the 500 point army of
parmenio
marcus
SB x4
AE
....maybe through another 1 of them in for 550.

#3 wins it for me too, but #4 had the best nickname, IMO - Gyro the hero!

I did the battle today witch was
DW8k
Syvarris
Krav
AE
against my team of
SB x4
Marcus Parmenio
I won, with a damaged Parmenio, damaged marcus and 1 SB left. The key part of this, wich was a huge risk for me, i abandoned my strategy of keeping each other close, and took parmenio and kill syvarris, (no order markers on that round) and I also got engaged with the untouched krav, (wich basically screwed them so the wouldnt wanna take a chance @ a passing swipe, so it was an easy victroy, especially with height. DW8k and AE are the ones that did some damage. they took out all except 3 sacred band members by themselves and hurt parmenio (2 wounds) and marcus (1 wound), but after I caught up to them I took them out. The key to this victory was me being able to sneak around and hit figs w/ out order markers on them. (i got syvarris, 2 AE, and all of the krav with that.) Because the focus was on killing all of my SB. so i bonded with parmenio and macus, and snuck around the battle feild able to take out the figs w/ no ordermarkers on them while I used the sacred band as bait. I think this is a very good army and later on i will try and battle w/ baraxs and such and keep you updated.

I just wanted to ask a question about the disciplined army defense bonus!
It says on the card 'if every army card you control has a disciplined personality, each soldier in the sacred band recieves 1 add. def. die'.
So if i have the SB/Marcus/Jotun/Brunak for eg. and Jotun and Brunak were knocked out would this bonus come into affect or would all the army cards have to orginally have to have been discplined? I'm going towards 'all cards you chose from the beginning have to be disciplined' theory but i was just inquiring.

I think it comes into effect when their out, but Im not completely sure.

I wasn't sure if it only came into effect when the non-disciplined figures had been eliminated or if you have to start with all disciplined figures?

All cards you control = figs on the battlefield. The Disciplined Army Defense Bonus will kick in when all non-disciplined figs are destroyed.
