So who isn't going to GenCon?

Is anyone out there having a local event for those poor saps (myself included) that aren't attending GenCon? I'm traveling this week and coming weekend so I can't, but couldn't help but wonder if anyone was.

I know that at the very least I'll be furiously checking this site every chance I get starting on Wednesday evening. :popcorn:

Frankly, the NorCal Gamedays have reduced the large benefit of Gencon, since we can get together fairly locally and get some great HS gaming in (both friendly and competetive if we want).

I agree that the local DFW gamedays reduce my desire to go to GenCon too, reapersaurus. Getting to play monthly with a larger group fills that gaming need. The thing that is different for me this year is the fact that about half of the DFW faithful are going to be there.

If only I didn't have to go to San Diego.

However, I think I will break out the tiles and 'Scape a bit this weekend, as we all revel in the awe and wonder that is the 'BIG NEWS' to be revealed, as foretold by the Comic-Con attendees.

She will be two, much too young for a Heroscape party though...that one will come next year. The funny thing is someone posted a card about Dorascape and while I was taking down my last map she was moving her Dora figures across the hexes perfectly. The people are actually Heroscape size. I guess that is one way to get her started. :D

Gen Con! :gencon:

is about more than just HS. I bet I will be lucky is 10% of my gaming this week is HS. It's about so much more than that. I think it's great that you have such huge groups that can gather for some hard hitting, knock down Scape...but Gen Con! :gencon: is about ALL gaming. If you can even go just once you will never forget this. My first game is We @ 3 PM and I don't plan on stopping until 7 PM sun night. I can't wait to play Bison or some of the other new games and oh the dealer room.

After having planned to be at this years GenCon only to have a family crisis arise, in addition to moving to a different state, all within less than 7 months, I think pencilling myself in for next year is pretty safe.

Unless Arizona sinks into the ocean or something...

Hey, don't get me wrong - I'd love to go, even if it's a bit too hardcore for my gaming tastes, by all the articles and posts that I've read thru the years.

We're fortunate, because we have most gaming outlets covered, in that we have:
1) a sporadic RPG group to cover that gaming if we want
2) we can play various types of boardgames (European, American, card games, etc) just about every weekend and even during the week if we want (with SacBoardGame Meetup group)
3) & the NorCal Gamedays handle a HS get-together outlet.

For example, there's no non-HS games I know of that are coming out that I'd like more than Cleopatra, and we can either buy that and play with our friends or use someone else's game at the Boardgame meeting.
And there's plenty of classic old games that we still would want to try out before needing to see any newer upcoming games featured @ Gencon.

I'd mostly be going for the zany experience and any HS get-togethers and meeting the people from this board and the people-watching aspect. :popcorn:

gatherings..unless someone steps up who isna going who lives in the DFW area(the handful of us who aren't going that is)..it doesna look like it..

however I've plans for dragoncon already, have had them for months...
got my 7 ms sets almost packed up and ready to set up for a showing there!

Hahn, I've actually been to Gen Con several times. In recent years kids have taken a lot of the disposable income I once had.

The first year I ever went was 1987. A good friend of mine and his dad went and took me along since we gamed together. Looking at my collection of crap I can see that I went back in 1990, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1997, 1999, 2000, and the last year ever in Milwaukee - 2002. I haven't been to a Gen Con since it left Milwaukee, and I must say that when I do attend again (and I will) it will be a bit sad to not be there. They used to have Irish Fest the same week and Milwaukee was just one giant beer soaked gaming center. It was beautiful.

I've been to the Comic Con in San Diego many times. I've been to all three of the Star Wars conventions. I've been to the actual Toy Fair in NYC. They all had their charms, but none could compare to Milwaukee during Gen Con week. I know it sounds crazy, but there was just something about it.

But I sincerely hope you guys have your fun in Indy. ;)

Dude I hear you about the kids. I have two of them in private school and the tuition ain't cheap. That's why come Monday I start the GEN CON! :gencon: 2007 fund. A little bit each week in the seperate savings account and I'm good for next year.

I went to a few in Milwaukee @ the MECCA but Indy is just kicking ass with all of the extra room and the number of hotels that are within walking distance. After they tear down the Hoosier dome they are adding another 100,000 sh ft of expo space and two 1400 room hotels.

Come on up for '07. Compare it to the MECCA. I expct to see you with the rest of the D/FW crew next year.

Screamingtruth was finnished with the time machine and had told his good friend UltraDoug online.

Cupidsart had just finnished a masterpice oil painting of Sev.

Nindoc had served his 2000th brew.

Minonchompy flew above.

RichVr was working below.

Funrun was dancing as Rickjames sang a song.

Dra(Gon) was just laughing at it all.

Sev was guarding the bar.

A clock ticked.

Time flowed.

And then...

Everything changed.

A man with glowing black eyes entered the bar that night.
He was dressed in black, his face covered, all you could see were those eyes. Those glowing black eyes.

Sev pulled out his lazer gun.

"Who are you?" He demanded.

Nindoc did a summersault over the bar, pulling out a rather large knife from nowhere.

"We don't serve your kind stranger." He said.

The man shruged his sholders, saying nothing

Funrun pressed the button that called RichRv. He climbed the stairs with his pet Raidoactive Hamster.

The man just stood there, unmoving.

"I'm looking for Doug." He finaly said.

"Thats UltraDoug bub," RichVr said comming out of the secret door and thowing Radioactive Hamster at the man.

In one motion the man revealed his face. Everyone was stuned. It was nothing but eyes and a questionmark.

The radeoactive hamster landed on his sholder, and turned black and white. The man smiled.

"Who are you?" Nindoc demanded.

"They call me... Maclive."

UltraDoug had gone to see ScreemingTruth and his new time machine invention, he was quite exicted by it.

"O.k. lets see what it can do!" He had exclamed

Screamingtruth was tired, but humored his friend.

"Sure," They turned it on, "When do you want to go?"

"Mmm in to time itself!" UltraDoug exclamed.

"Sorry, there is no time within time, you have to pick a date."

"Humm, perhaps I can visit my past self, I seem to have this naging feeling..."

A beep intrupted his thoughts. Screamingtruth looked on his comptuer, it was flashing red, "Nindoc's bar!" The two friends exclamed jumping up and running out to the car.

"Go fast!" UltraDoug said, they speed away.

....

Dra(gon) had grabed a board, "Get you out now," He told the strange man.

RichVr picked up the Raidoactive Hamster, "Hes alive, just black and white, what gives?"

"All who oppose me become one with me," Maclive said.

"I don't think so!!" Sev said shooting his lazer point blank into Maclives' question mark. Nothing happened.

Maclive laughed, "Fool." Sev turned black and white, and fell to the ground on his butt, "No.. can't..."

Funrun ran to him, "No!" She exclamed.

The doors swung open, "Did I miss anything?" Giddy asked.

Maclive turned to him, "Nothing." He said and Giddy turned black and white, his eyes wide, "What..."

"Put on some pants," Maclive said, turning away. Giddy slowly got up and put on pants.

"Your controling them, you monster!" Nindoc said, "Everyone get out of here," He did a backflip over his bar, knocking glasses everywhere, "GO! NOW!!" He hit the red button, "Self destruct in 10 seconds..."

"RUN!!" Nindoc yelled.

RichVr looked at his Radioactive Hamster pet that was now black and white, "I'll get you for this!!" He swore as he ran out the secret exit.

"Sev, snap out of it," Funrun was saying to him, "Please..." She kissed him on the cheek.

Maclive steped towards them, "Sev. Kill her." He smiled and turned.

Funrun's eyes widened, "No..." she whispered.

Sev turned to her,"I - can't control.. my body... run.." He stood up grabing his lazer.

Funrun took off as he fired after her.

Minonchompy had seen enough, "You die now!!" He charged into Maclive with his sword drawn, and became black and white, falling to the floor, "Noooo..." He cryed out.

Screamingtruth and UltraDoug jumped out of the car, running to the door.

"I hope we are not too late!!" Screamingtruth said.

The bursted though the door.

Sev and Minonchompy were there, one with a lazer pistol, the other with a sword, both black and white, both ready to destory there friends.

"What happened here?" Screamingtruth asked.

UltraDoug's eyes went wide, "Oh no..." He said,
"Its him... its Maclive!"

.....

RichVr was running still, holding his Raidoactive Hamster, "What can I do to fix this?" He wondered.

"Color..." The hamster said, it did not offen talk, but when it did it was always inporant information.

"Color?" RichVr asked, he thought about that as he ran, he was a very smart man, and knew the answer soon enough.

"Nindoc wait up!" He called out, Nindoc stoped running with Funrun close behind. Dra(gon) turned back and caught up.

"What is this now?" Dra(gon) asked, "We run evil from!"

"Yes, but I know how to stop it, we just have to figure out how to re-colorise the people he effected, maybe Maclive himself!" RichVr exclamed.

"How?" Fun run asked.

"I don't know, but Raidoactive Hamster said color was the answer and I figured out the rest."

"Can we trust him, he turned evil." Nindoc pointed out.

"Yes, true, but he no given orders was." Dra(gon) said.

"Dra(gon)'s right," RichVr said, "Without orders the evil people seem to retran there basic personalty, didn't Sev warn you to run, Funrun.. no pun.. sorry." He laughed.

"I get it all the time..." She muttered, "Yeah he did, but still, what are we going to do, attack them with paint?"

"Maybe..." Nindoc smiled, "Cupidsart!" He exclamed.

"Why not?" RichVr said, "Just paint them back to normal!"

The ran to Nindoc's van and piled in, racing off to Cupidsart, perhaps there only chance to save there friends.

UltraDoug and Screamingtruth had dove for cover.

"2 seconds.." The computer said.

"Darn it, Computer CANCEL!" UltraDoug yelled out.

"Canceled." It said.

"One thing at a time," Screamingtruth said, "I can only handle so much bane!" He pulled out his stunwepon.

"That thing been tested?" UltraDoug asked as a lazer flew over there head, fired by Sev.

"No time like now!" Screamingtruth said firing it at Sev.

A clunk sounded. A sword split the bar in half, "AHH Fire two!" UltraDoug yelled as he dived out of the way.

Anther well aimed shot and Minonchompy fell down.

UltraDoug checked his pulse, "Alive," He ran to Sev, "Alive, thank goodness."

Screamingtruth smiled, "My inventions always work."

"Unless they don't!" Geddy said, bursting through a door, "AAHH!" Screamingtruth yelled as Geddy tackled him to the floor, "SAVE YOURSELF!!" Screamingtruth yelled at UltraDoug.

"I'm not leaving you!" He yelled back, reaching for a bottle, to hit Geddy on the head.

"Tisk tisk, Doug..." A voice said.

UltraDoug turned around, "Maclive."

Cupidsart painted the Raidoactive Hamster the most red glow he could, his brush was even and strong, he had never worked so fast or so well. "Its done." He said.

The Raidoactive Hamster chirped happly, "Worked!"

RichVr smiled, "Awsome work as always, I'm still waiting for my girl monk drawing you know..."

"Lattter, we have our frinds to save!" Cupidsart smiled, gathering his art supplys they headed out the door together.

"Save day you will!" Dra(gon) said to Cupidsart.

"I hope so." He said, worryed.

Screamingtruth was colorless. Black and white.

"I want you to go into the Bars computer and hack in a fake program for me." Maclive told him, "Make everyone belive I was destoryed."

"I ... don't want to -- but I can't stop myself..." He said as his body moved him to the computer.

"Your fight is with me Maclive, leave my friends and this bar out of it!" UltraDoug said.

"Who do you think payed Minonchompy to destory you?" He asked, "I had no idea you would use the time machine to fix it, and was unable to stop you.."

"What? I did'nt do that!"

"Of course not, the time flow resumed a course close to what you experanced, but without you going back to stop Minonchompy from firing on Sev time came undone, and I was able to enter this universe."

"I'm going to destory you once and for all." UltraDoug swore.

"You do not have your Colorazation powers here, you can not stop me. HHAHHHAHHA!!!! NOTHING CAN STOP ME!"

In burst Dra(gon), Cupidsart, Nindoc, Funrun, RichVr, and of coure, the Raidoacvtive Hamster.

"Wrong." They said as one, and Cupidsart started painting all the black and white people as Nindoc, Funrun, RichVr and the Radioactive Hamster blocked Maclive from him.

"I'll turn you all to my side fools!" He exlamed.

"Wrong again, never turn your back on me!" UltraDoug exclamed, "I may not have my powers here, but I have a new power.. the power of my friends and this bar!" He opened a bottle of whine and the cork hit Maclive in the Question Mark, he was off blance, and by then Cupidsart and restored everyone but Screamingtruth who had allready put in the fake message.

UltaDoug opened bottle after bottle to distract Maclive as Nindoc growned softly, "My best whine..." He grabed a brew and started firing foam onto Maclive. By now Cupidsart had finnished painting everyone into color again.

"Now for Maclive," He said.

"I have an idea," UltraDoug said, "You guys keep him distracted- Screamingtruth... we nead to get to the TM!"

"But- the page..." He trailed off.

"Forget about it, we can deal with it latter."

"But.."

UltraDoug grabed him and ran off.

The awsome team of Dra(gon), Nindoc, RichVr, Funrun, Sev, Minonchompy, Giddy, and the Raidoactive Hamster were too much for Maclive, he was covered in brew, corks, glass, tables, and other stuff.

This gave UltraDoug and Screamingtruth time to get to the time machine, "Send me into the past to the date when Minoonchompy was going to shoot me!"

"Thats the day I over heard someone yell out TM," Screamingtruth said.

"Then I'll make sure to yell it out when I get there! GO SEND ME NOW!"

...............


A clock ticked.

Maclive was gone. Back to the universe he had come from.

Time had been restored by the resultion of the paradox.

All was at it should be.

UltraDoug came out of the time machine.

"It worked." He said.

"What worked?" Screamingtruth asked, "You just told me to send you back, what happened?"

"You don't rember the man with the questionmark?" UltraDoug asked.

"Nope."

"Good, then its all back to as it should be."

"Mind filling me in?" Screamingtruth asked.

"Its a long story..."

"Well, tell it at the bar, lets go, I'll get you a green tea."

"I'd like that."

The two arvived at the bar, everyone gathered because UltraDoug was going to tell a story, they knew those were good, "What kind of story this is?" Dra(gon) asked.

UltraDoug smiled and winked at his friend Dra(gon)

"Epic."

I may not be goin to Gencon but in a week and a half I get to take my Sweepstakes vacation. The best part, I get to throw down with OOg, Allskulls, Rhyd and I don't even know who else. I am so friggin excited about this part I have forgotten about the rest of my trip. August 25th is comin and I can't wait :lol:
