So yeah...I entered an event (win-a-wave) and it says I need a 400 pt. army. Right now, I think I'm going to go with:

-Roman Legionnaires
-Venoc Vipers
-Venoc Warlord
-Ne-Gok-Sa
-Marro Warriors

The only sets I have are two master sets, all of Mallidon's Prophecy except for the gruts, all of Utgar's Rage, Orm's Return, Road to the Forgotten Forest, a couple Neraks, and all of Jandar's Oath except for the Scots, Commandos, Monks, and Sentinels, . And except for the master sets, I only have one of each thing.

Anyhoo, my team. Roman Legionnaires run up right away with either Ne-Gok or the Warlord (probably Ne-Gok to keep the Vipers' bonuses. The Vipers follow soon after and try to do as much damage as possible in one turn (as they usually do). Then, the Legionnaires and Ne-Gok/Warlord hammer away at the opponent (Legionnaires and Warlord attack, Ne-Gok MS then attack).

Obviously, this team lacks range, so I included Marro Warriors with the last 50 points. I think that their ability to clone should make up for the lack of other ranged support. I was thinking of getting rid of the Marro Warriors and the Venoc Vipers to get a better, 90 point ranged unit.

I have some other teams, including:
-4th Massachusetts Line
-Knights of Weston
-Sir Dendrick
-Concan the Kyrie Warrior
-Finn the Viking Champion

This team is full of supporting abilities, but not really range (go figure.)

-Su-Bak-Na
-Ne-Gok-Sa
-Marrden Hounds
-Marro Warriors

Keep Su-Bak in the back and hope for lucky rolls

-Khosumet the Darklord
-Anubian Wolves
-Krug
-Minions of Utgar

Lots of attack=lots of damage

-Raelin the Kyrie Warrior
-Charos
-Izumi Samurai
-Dumutef Guard
-Swog Rider

Just keep Charos and the Samurai in range of Raelin, and this team should be fine.

Please post feedback (constructive criticism, please) and suggestions for any of these teams. If you want me to post my strategies for the other four teams, then just ask.

For me, I think the best eram here would have to be the 4th mass, but you definetly need more sets.

personally, my 400 point game would be minions x2 and Taelord (exactly 400, correct?), but you only have one set of minions, where as i have 3. GO GET MORE! or, maybe you could field a ton o' drones with SBN and MBS...

Raelin the Kyrie Warrior
-Charos
-Izumi Samurai
-Dumutef Guard
-Swog Rider

I'd say try this army, but swap the swog and Dumetef for the Marro Warriors.
I bet you'd get some pretty funny reactions when your opponent figures out they have to go up against Raelin and Charos.

Ive played that tae plus 2 sets of minions..and it suxs...
no range..short movement..
anyone with a good ranged army will murder them..slowly, but they will..b/c ye can never get in range of them..

cheers

In your first army, I would swap Ne-gok-sa for Me-burq-sa, and add one more set of Vipers (use proxies or borrow them from someone who's not playing at the time).

Nah. Me-Burq-Sa could prove invaluable against high-defense squaddies.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. While discussing these teams with some friends, a question came up as to whether or not you're stuck with one team throughout the tournament or not (it's my first tournament). I've slimmed the team choices down to three teams (although I wonder what your thoughts are on the Khosumet team...)

-Roman Legionnaires
-Venoc Vipers x2
-Venoc Warlord
-Me-Burq-Sa
-Marro Warriors

After a bit of thinking, Me-Burq could help against a DW or other high defense units, and the Vipers just fit right into the 40 points leftover.

-4th Massachusetts Line
-Knights of Weston
-Sir Dendrick
-Concan the Kyrie Warrior
-Finn the Viking Champion

-Raelin the Kyrie Warrior
-Charos
-Izumi Samurai
-Marro Warriors

Yes, my teams do lack range.

I leave for Gencon Tuesday, and won't have internet for the week, so post quickly!

-Finn the Viking Champion

Variation of the above

-2x4th Mass
-Knights of Weston
-Sir Dendrick or AListair Mcdirk
-Finn the Viking Champion or Thorgrim

Edit - NM; I failed to see that you didnt have multiple sets of 4th Mass, my bad

note: MBS only works on Medium units. DW8k and DW9k are size large

I think that first team (legos and snakes) is a real winner. Just make sure to protect MBS.

also Ry's suggestions are right on. You might want to consider overxtending your wallet by $10 just so you can experience the sweetness of 2 squads of minutemen and the awesomeness of Braveheart.

I haven't tried this yet, but maybe next time I'm playing a 400pt army I'll give it a shot.

Venoc Warlord = 120pts
Armoc Vipers = 65pts (bond with Warlord)
Venoc Vipers (x2) = 80pts (for quick strike and possible multiple attacks w/frenzy)
Abrien Archers = 70 (for range and possible multiple attack w/frenzy)
Deadeye Dan = 60 (can peck away at opponents ranged squads at a safe distance)

Keeping Deadeye and your army out of range of opponents ranged squads allows you to peck away w/o being attacked and forces opponent to move (perhaps 4th mass and losing non-moving bonus) into your range, then you can swarm them with the Venoc Vipers w/move of 9 and possible multiple attacks w/frenzy. Then Archers can join in and possibly frenzy too.

You use the same army for the whole tournament.

Well...I lost first round (stupid acid breathing Braxas...). I ended up choosing the valiant team, and ended up being at the terrain with all of those mountain-ish things.

Jormi: You beat my friend in the second round (he had Raelin, Charos, Izumi Samurai, and Marro Warriors).

Yeah that was a fairly tough army. I had to take a lot of shots at the dragon.
