Never bid on eBay anytime BEFORE there are only 2 minutes left.

That lot will likely get pretty high. Its pretty close to the lot I originally won to get all my stuff, and I paid $400 for that.

LOL! From the sellers notes:

"I am liquidating it because I have graduated to Warhammer. "

Graduating to Warhammer...that's classic. Mind you, I like Warhammer but talk about a money sink. GW hasn't even released all their army books yet for the latest edition and they are releasing a new version. Hope the seller knows what he is getting into. Great minis and decent game but always having to upgrade (and having units go obsolete) gets old real quick.

Retail all that is about $335, thats $15 for Nerak (which is all I would pay for him), and the new $18-$20 price for the VW. Realistically its worth more, due to scarcity of Waves 1 and 2 and Nerak.

There is no way this lot goes for less than $250 and I would probably pay around $300, assuming I didn't already have all the stuff I needed.

I happily paid $400 for a very similar lot: 3MS, 2 W1-2, 1 W3, 1 OR, 2RTTFF, 2VW and Free Shipping :)

You didn;t get them in the store?
That's over retail price, right?
Whyn wouldn't you have just picked them up at the store?
All those things you mentioned are freely available, many times for less than retail.

Graduating to WH.....I hope he has lots and lots of $$$$. I started WH40K and didn't wonder why I was getting such a good deal on everything from the usually expensive hobby store. I figured they were just going out of business. WRONG....the next week the 2nd Edition was released and rules and armies were changed or made obsolete. I still play an extremely watered down version of the game with my son. Kind of a pre-curser(is that a word?) to D&D. He is only nine after all. Hey what did that ebay dealee wind up going for?

I've seen people play Heroscape and warhammer...side by side

The people playing Heroscape were having the time of their lives...the people playing warhammer seemed bored, overly tense, and generally libraryish...(sssh this is serious; we are playing a game)......no thanks...if I wanted that I would just whip out the chess board.

I like to have fun when I play games....imagine that ;-)

so good luck to whoever wins the bid...and...good luck to the poor sap giving up fun for tedious tape measures (graduated to warhammer..how funny)

(yeah i dont hail from a mini gaming background)

Someone didn't do the math :)

120(3MS)+40(W1)+40(W1)+40(W2)+40(W2)+40(W3)+20(OR)+20(rttff)+20(rttff) +15(vw)+15(vw)=410 not including tax. Assuming 10 per booster and 40 per ms.

They WEREN'T freely available at the time. I couldn't find Wave 1 and Wave 2 was scarce in the stores at the time I got this, which was awhile back (September or October not sure excactly) and Wave 1 was easily going for 60-80-100 on ebay. So like I said HAPPILY paid $400+no shipping, for it, I got everything I wanted in one swoop, and built up from there.

3 Master Sets.........................................$20.00 ea....x3...$60.00
4 Mallidon’s Prophecy (1 each).................$9.94 ea......x4...$39.76
4 Utgar’s Rage (1 each)...........................$9.94 ea......x4...$39.76
4 Jandar’s Oath (1 each).........................$9.94 ea.......x4...$39.76
1 Orm’s Return.......................................$19.94 ea....x1...$19.94
1 Nerak the Glacian Swog Rider...............$0.00 ea......x1...$0.00
1 Road to the Forgotten Forest.................$19.94 ea....x1...$19.94
2 Volcarren Wastelands...........................$14.99 ea....x2...$29.98
Total................................................................. ............$249.14

That's the total I get using the prices I paid such as BOGO Master Sets, TRU Nerak, original VW pricing, Wallyworld expansions, etc,. Of course, you put in MSRP, eBay cost Nerak and attempting to even find sparkly Masters and that bumps up the price quote quite significantly. So adding the cheapest postage of $20.00 it is still a good buy at the current bid of 202.51.

•*Anyone bidding before the final 2 minutes in ANY eBay auction needs to be severely flogged!*

* The only reason to bypass this rule is when you are the first bidder. And even when doing that, never ever put your maximum bid you are willing to pay as the first bid!

See, all this talk of "don't bid until the last 2 minutes" cracks me up. I bid what I'm willing to pay. Period. If it goes over, fine fair market. I just don't care that much about highly common items like this. Plus, I don't have time to watch the auction until the last 2 minutes.

If I happen to come across an auction that is in its last few minutes, then I'll do the wait and bid part. But again, I bid what I'm willing to pay and rarely go back and re-bid to a higher amount.

The problem with this attitude (although great for the seller) is that A) you rarely win the auction, unless you have unlimited cash and bid much higher than its value - at least on anything actually in demand and B) You artificially inflate the price for other bidders that actually want the item. I will concede the point and give you props that you do not go back and up your bid at a later time in the same auction. The majority of inept eBay bidders do this all the time. You will see two or three bidders starting a bidding war on an item that keeps up until all three are bidding amounts way in excess of the actual value simply to win the auction.

Here is an example of really bad bidding in this auction:

These 9 bids all took place in 6 hours between 10:00 AM PDT and 4:00 PM PDT. This activity occurred 2 days into the auction with 5 days remaining on the auction. There are only three bidders ...

Besides pushing the auction from the amount of $61.00 (the point at which weeblay makes their first of 4 bids) to over $200.00, tell me what did rc5phelps1jl3's 4 bids and dmbspike's 3 bids do other than drive the price up for the seller?

I said the "prices I paid". Past tense. I did not say what I could currently get them for. In my original post I even quantified that these prices would indeed go up with current availability/prices. Don't go making problems where none existed, we have Muslim Extremists for that ...
