Well actually they are not totally depressing but it is a bit strange. As I have explained I have never been a member of a site before Hq's except for ebay so I find these numbers a bit odd. Well here you go.
As of July 31st Scapers has 800 members.
Scapers with over 1000 posts: 8 of us.
Over 100 posts; 120 of us
Under 100 posts: 680 :?
Under 10 posts: 507 :(
single posters 88
Lurkers: are you ready for this: 207 :wtf!:
Over 25% of this site is lurkers
almost 60 to 65% are under 10 posts
while those of us carrying the site with over a hundred number around 15% of the total users....yikes.

I wonder how many people who post here regularly are also site supporters?

Not part of many forums, but I would guess that those stats are pretty much the norm. On .net I would have been in the lurker classification until the very end when I posted a few times. Warmed up to everyone on HQ and started posting with some regularity around November.

I think I post a lot, but I guess I don't as much as I think I do. :? I'm on for hours a day, but I don't need to give input on a lot of threads I read. Sometimes I get a little spam-happy, though. :D
I tried going through HQ's member list. It was awful. There were at least a thousand people without a sigle post.

Lurkers are the most abundant section of the membership of any website. Many actually read the forums for info, bot most come for downloads or simply just to look once or twice never to return*.
* You could probably pick a random 0 post member, send a PM informing them that they had won a $100 HeroScape shopping spree and never get a reply.

It is also interesting to me that at a measly 3 months old, this site has garnered 800 members. Not bad at all. I know that many are carryovers, but that just says something for the dedication of the crowd.
Should be interesting to see what sort of increase we get from Gencon and castles. Whenever a new release hits the shelves, we get a bump.

The only thing that surprises me is that the lurker percentage isn't even higher.

Hey... Everyone starts as a lurker right? These people could be growing into the next generation of posters!
I gues I had a few posts on .net and HQ, but I know I lurked for a couple months on .net before summoning the courage to post! I wonder if how many lurkers have never posted more than 10 posts on any forum.

That's almost worth doing just to see if it works. I know that it most likely will, but it would still be interesting to see it happen.

Our lurker number is MUCH MUCH MUCH higher. Trust me. There is really no insentive to registering other than to post. So many lurkers don't bother to register.

This statement just seems scary.
More on topic, this is the only forum I've ever posted in. I guess it's a combination of getting older and being obsessed with HS.

There are some of us out there like myself who are here, but without alot to say. I actually have been around since the days of .net. I have been playing Heroscape for two years come october. I visit the boards almost everyday, sometimes for a few minutes, sometimes for a few hours. I mostly just read up on the news of new items, and customs and such. I enjoy all of you who make this community a reality, and enjoy it, I just find myself not being a big contributor.
I guess you could say we are like that demon nightmare that only shows his shadow out of the corner of your eye. You are aware that there is something there, but can't really ever see it and they never really make themselves known.

Quite often, most of what can be said regarding any given topic is pretty well discussed within 5-10 posts. I try not to post if I have nothing new to add to the topic. Considering I visit this board perhaps 1-2 times a day, I'll rack up significantly fewer posts than someone who hangs out here during most waking hours, as most new topics are pretty well hashed out by the time I find them.
Those stats don't seem to unusual or alarming compared to most boards.

I started as a lurker. I lurked for months on .net. Then one day I said to myself, "Self, you've got to register and contribute to the Heroscape community!"
I went to .net to register right away. I clicked on register. It didn't work. I tried again. I was sent to another page. "What?" I said to myself, ".net is down?!?"
And so it was, the day I was to become a member, .net had breathed its last.
Ever since that day, I have tried to be an active member of the Heroscape community.

If you can't contribute then don't say nothin at all is my motto. I put in my 2 cents when I have something to contribute. Mostly this post was to get my count closer to 100 so I can be included in the 'cool' group!

I like to think that when I post I am adding something, even if it is just my opinion/take on the discussion. I try to do this even when the main reason for my post is to crack a joke.

No quibble here. I'm just trying to explain why the stats don't worry me in the least. On pretty much every board there are members who are nearly ALWAYS online and post quickly on most topics. Other less prolific "regulars" post when they can. Those who visit for the latest news and info are more likely to read than to post. Where else are we gonna go for up to date HS info? There's nothing wrong with hordes of lurkers!

Websites cost money. Our host, truth, has set this one up for us. We donate to cover the cost of the site. I trust truth implicitly.

Siter Supporter? Where does the money go?Truth keeps records of all of the proceeds and what they are used for. Every year he plans to post the budget, so that folks can see where the money goes. Some things are expensive like the downloads section.
