Anyone know anything about these?
What do you think about them?
Do you think they would fit well on HS bases?
Would you use them?

I've seen some folks use modelling tape with fair success. Others have just used markers, but that's a little too permanent for most.

I agree; most can't stand the thought of coloring the edge of the base with a permanent marker....

I wouldn't change it....I love being able to quickly identify my pieces on the board and to be able to quickly sort mine out after game play.

I know the wisingers adopted the same idea as me...sharp'ing the base...I actually picked that tip up from RichVR

I believe in it, as it adds so many benefits...and the down side????

I guess I defaced a non collectable game figure? ;-)

As my broher says...."this game is to be played, not displayed"...whatever makes it more functional.

Just buy a pack of those tiny multicolored rubber bands. If you need to mark your figs, loop one of those bands around the fig so that it rests on the base like a discarded hoola hoop. Simple, temporary, cheap.

Why haven't you mentioned this before?

That is a good idea. Cheap and easy mod that is actually useful and temporary. I was trying to hatch some hairbrained way of marking the bases in a temporary way that would not be cheap, or easy. I know when to give up.

Sharpie marker with initials on the bottom of your figures.

I still like stickers the best. You can get small, circular labeling stickers at an office supply store or at Target, Wal-Mart, etc. You can either get different colored ones or put your initials on the stickers to tell the figures apart. After that just stick em on the under side of the figure bases and you're set. They are functional, always can be peeled off with ease, and don't take away anything from the game in terms of looks.

Something that is immediately recognizable is best.

Actually, the rubber bands is a great idea, GB.

One problem I had with stickers or marking the base is having to constantly pick them up to see who it belongs to. But the rubber bands I can wrap them around the base ore legs and know instantly.

I suddenly feel smarter.

I usually get a big glob of playdoh and stick them on the figures heads. Sometimes it makes them a bit top heavy, but I'm ok with that. I've learned to balance them well.

I find it works much better than the flourescent paint and blacklighting that I used to use.

i do the sharpie ring around the base. It's not as permenant as one might think. Little naptha takes it right off. That way you can tell who's armies belong to who. I have 3 of each common, and each set has a different color ring, easy to tell them apart.

For that, you might as well get a set of dry-erase markers, it should come off without the solvent that might eat the paint job if you spill it.

You don't mark under the base....you mark the very edge of the base....right on the edge...

it is clearly visible and much more subtle than a rubber band...but of course it is permanent

EDIT - NWO and I have same set up ...3 commons / diff colors

I just change the paint job a hair on commons. I am workin on changin some omnicrons to red instead of blue, changed the hair on some Krav-Mags. You can buy a simple little paint set and do some very minor changes that differentiate your guys. I just leave one set the way they were originally.

we should all jump on hasbro and see if we can get them to put the little sticker sheets from the first MS inside expansions. then we could just put the little stickers on the back of our guys Attacktix style.

See, I go for the permanent method. Elstree and I put nail polish on the rims of our bases. Doesn't flake off, has a nice shine to it, and you can get it really cheap.

I use NYC brand yellow nail polish that I get for 99˘ a bottle. Find a color that works for you and buy a bunch. Each bottle comes with its own perfect sized brush. Elstree uses Red and Black, our friends use blue, purple and white. I had some thoughts about painting unique figs a different color than the common figs, but I'm pretty happy with all my figs being the same.

When painting bases, set the freshly painted ones on aluminum foil so that any polish that gets on the bottom edge or shifts down won't stick to paper or table. They peel right off the foil. For best appearance, do two medium coats, letting them dry thoroughly between coats.
I'm way behind on my base painting.

the nail polish hasn't traveled to to your figs?

Nice, I hadn't really thought of that.

I have been using self made stickers on the top of the base between the feet.

There is only one squad that I painted and that's my knights, they just screamed shield paint to me. :D

Bunjee,

Thanks for displaying a figure with the edge of the base colored. A picture is worth a thousand words...and I was using way too many words. :-D

Well honestly I have found it's not too hard to keep track of which figures belong to which player. It's fairly rare to have identicle armies filled with tons of commons facing off. Even if they did both players would have to send a bunch of their figures to the middle of the field and have them get all mixed up before you would need any sort of indicator to tell them apart. Usually they end up dying right away when they come in contact with enemy units, at least in the games I play.

The stickers on the bottom are just extra insurance to make sure there are no descrepencies and to keep track of which figures belong to who after the game is over. Really taking an extra 3 seconds to flip a figure over isn't gonna kill you and you can do it quickoly while moving the figure. I'm not a fan of coloring the base edges or using colored bands because the bright colors on the bases detract from the whole look of the game for me. Just not a fan of the bright colors on the rims drawing attention.

That lets you tell them apart when you're going to pack things up (I'm looking at getting a rubber stamp and some printer's ink to stamp the bottoms of my figures and land, for this purpose), but it won't help you in a melee of Legio IX in the middle of the battlefield, which I believe was the point of the original post.
