Back on HQ in some of the pics i posted of fields etc, people noticed a race track in the back ground. This is a 1/32 scale slot-car track. It is a fun (but expensive) investment for those who like "alone time" or, for me, father-son bonding (since my dad doesn't like HS). Sets com ready-to-run, and sell for anywhere between 120-300 dollars (see what i mean by expnsive?) but IMO it is well worth it. The cars a based off of actual models (my fave: The Dodge Viper GTS/R) and can be purchased separately for between 40-50 bucks. They (Scalextric) also has many different thing to go with the track, such as a Race Management System (RMS) that allows you to hook the track to a computer and maintain a race by telling the car when to pit, etc. They just introduced something that allows up to 6 cars to run on a single lane and realistic overtaking, just to add to the realism of racing. One of my favorite products: The pace car. It's a robot car that learns the course and races against you if you don't have anyone else to race against.
anyone else have any slot car stuff?

we have no pics of the track it's self, but there are pictures. i have to pull them from the other computer, which is currently infected with a virus of some sort so it's difficult. you can check out the website here:

Wow K/H, that sounds like a whole lotta fun. When I was younger we had TCR - Total Control Racing. Slotless slot cars that could pass each other. I was lucky enough to get a racing truck set. The semi trucks could pass each other or the pace truck.
Post pics of your layout soon!

i'm with monkeyfish on that one, hex. if we are thinkinf of the same thing, we call them "Remote Controlled cars" or "R/C cars" now......
I will definately take pics of the layout as soon as we get a loyout up to take pics of. We moved and don't have a garage yet (it needs a roof. we have walls and windows, but no roof!)
...do they have corvettes for it???
Yes they do. i have one. it's plain white (not shown here):

Do any of the older folks remember the multi-car slot tracks in old R/C and electronics stores from back in the day? There were a couple here in my neck of the woods where you show up with your car, throw it on the track and race whoever was there. It used to be cool to watch, though I never bought a car and got into it.

Har you kids these days!
No these were on a track just like the slotted tracks, but the sides were high to keep the cars on the track.
oh heck here' the wiki story:
Total Control Racing (TCR) was a toy brand from Ideal which debuted in the late 1970s, similar to slot car sets, with approximately HO scale cars (and smaller scale semi-trailer trucks) that operated on a slotless track.
The plastic track contained lanes of three metal tracks about 2 mm (0.08 inch) wide, which made contact with three brass pads on the underside of the cars, providing power. The plastic track had two such lanes, and cars could change lanes with the press of a button on the controller. TCR sets came with "jam cars", a slow moving drone which both racers had to avoid crashing into.

TCR sounds fun. I can't wait to get these slotcars back up and running! Frtunately the hobby shop around the corner has a layout for the public to run their own cars on for $4/hour.....sweeeeeet

I use the smaller scale, you know, the HO scale? And I loves it. Electric racing is the money. My father has the Scalectrix stuff, and I think he really likes it, so I'll be giving it a try over Christmas.

we have a bunch of HO scale stuff. We only have one car tha works on it though, since 90% of it was my dads when he was my age. I actually was able to get 2 cars running, but eventually it ran holes in the pickup shoes and we don't have any more to fit; we bought a kit to get them goin again and i lost the spring...
we need new cars

I also have a vast collection of slotcar track. However I do not have any scalextric. I do have a vast collection of Tyco, Tyco TCR, Tomy AFX, and Carrera 1/24 and 1/32 slotcars and track.
I also have a vast collection of Rc. cars as well.
I have created websites for both.
Edit:Please keep in mind these sites have not been updated in quite sometime. I have even more than pictured.

Here are some pics from those sites you might enjoy.
Here is a pic which I feel you all will enjoy. It is a Team associated rc18b 1/18th scale buggy and a TA 18mt 1/18th scale monster truck sitting on a HS board I built.

My dad and i have been looking at Carerra stuff ocasionally; every time we do we question if Carerra cars are compatible with Scalextric track and vise versa....
Carerra has some nice layouts to start with, but we've already invested probably over $1,000 in Scalextric (thats more than what i have in HS!), so we always back down from it.
Could you possibly post a pic or 2 of an individual track piece and the bottom of a car?

K/H,
All my stuff is currently stored in the attic. But IIRC, they are not compatible. But when I get home from the whole family thing today I will do some research for you.

Don't worry about it, outtakontroll. We're fine with scalextric stuff.

Anyone want to trade some spare heroscape stuff for some old Tyco HO slot car track that I dont really want? I was just gona put it on ebay in a few days ;) it fills a large 3x2x1.5 plastic bin... I would rather fill the bin with Hero Scape stuff ;).

i'd consider trading some HS for some HO cars, but we have PLENTY of track. as i said above, it doesn't get used because we only have 1 running car.
I'd be interested in a few cars and spare car parts if you have any...

K/H the Scaley cars are compatible with Carrera. Carrera track is wider and just has a deeper slot. plus, Carrera track is more expensive and with it being wider requires more room for multiple lane layouts.

I think I only have 2 or 3 working cars, that could use some TLC to get back to raceable condition... (Tyco HO, from 80-90's) I do have a few other cars/parts tho, that need parts or repair etc... like US trucking trucks etc... But they have no bodies... LOL, I used them for mini RC cars... I prefer Radio Control becuase you can go were ever you want with out a plastic train track to fallow ;)
The best RC car for slot car lovers, is the 1:43 scale Epoch, fully functional/proportional RC car... they can be aquired at http://shop.tinyrc.com/home.php?cat=262 tell the guy at the site Draconious sent you and he might knock $2 off of each car you buy. They are supose to be 99$ each but hes selling them for $50... ok this is turning into an ad lol.. im shutting up. I owe him money ;) lol...

ehh, we'll discus trading further once we get our scalextric track back up and running (no telling when, since we still don't have power in the garage; it's still being wired up...).
Tell the guy at the site that he's have a potential customer if he carried a Viper or a Mini Cooper... :D

Ok my bad. I havent messed with my cars in quite some time so I wasnt sure.
K/H,
Here is a link to the best slotcar site I have found on the net.

I also have a program called Tracker 2000 for the PC
which allows you to build your layout on the PC and print it out.
It has all different kinds of track brands including Scalextric, Carrera, Tyco, Tomy AFX ect.
It is pretty awesome.

I have a radioshack Xmod NSX (broken beyond repair right now; need new parts, want to upgrade to alloy parts but ebay is outrageous...) as well as a Mini-Z (i think it's mini-z) viper the same acale (1/32 i believe) that i bought, ironically enough off of ebay for $10, but they are more inside cars, so it doesn't see too much use. The tires spun too much on my carpet so i spiked them by poking staples through.

Sigh Xmods suck... they are find for kids though... the Mini-Z is higher quality.. and they are 1:27-1:28 scale... about 1:25th scale models...
If you got a Mini-Z for 10$ then I am sorry to say that you got ripped off... because on ebay there are 1000's of FAKE Mini-Z counterfits, and clone products from china... they are not worth 4$... they are horible RC cars, only enough of a product to trick the buyer into thinking it was a Mini-Z long enough to get their money. This unfortunatly causes many Xmod owners to buy one, and then tell everyone else with an Xmod that Mini-Z's suck.. and thus our Mini-Z racer numbers are not as high as they could be, its hard to get enough people together to race in any one given area...
Do not invest in the XMOD it will take 300-400$ to get it to run like a Stock Mini-Z... put that money into a REAL Mini-Z... all a Z needs is tires and your all set... (stock tires are good for concrete but not slippery floors or the foam tile tracks)

I really want to get a gas R/C. That way i don't have to charge batteries and lose interest while they charge for 4+ hours. I just don't want to invest a full $400+ into one, and my dad won't go in with me on it because he doesn't think they're any good. He'd rather have a slightly cheaper electric high-performance R/C car, which still needs batteries.
Gas cars are fricken monsters. I've seen one chase a real car down and almost smash itself on the rear tire.

Slot Cars
I have 185 feet of AFX track that I bought a number of years ago. I was lucky to find a couple of stores blowing out track at ten cents on the dollar. 185 feet is a lot of track and I can quickly take over a couple of rooms in the house. :)
I have not set up the track in about 6 years or so. We considered integrating the track onto a large HeroScape map but gave that up as a bad beer-fueled idea. :)
Alas, I do not have any pictures as they were on the computer that was stolen last year.
R/C Cars
I just sold my Traxxas T-Maxx (2.5) earlier this year. I ran it for a little while but I got tired of the amount of maintenance to the amount of run time. Favourite run was taking it to the Sand Dunes in Saskatchewan with my brother. That thing would run like greased lightning.

With the Mini-Z you use standard AAA rechargeables.. I use Rayovac IC-3 cells... they charge in 15 minutes, but the stock car has potential to run for over an hour at full thottle before needing a recharge... longer if you go easy, and shorter if you have a lot of stop go driving/bumpy track etc...
Electric can also go just as fast... if your willing to invest in Lithium Polymer batteries, and Brushless motors ;)
Also look for the 1:18 gas cars... awsome :)
