View Full Version : Martin's take on Roman Columns

I saw the other threads and pictures of roman columns and LOVED them. So I drove on out to Hobby Lobby and bought a set (4) of the columns. I cut off the square bases and glued them to spare single grass tiles. I filled the hole on top with a wood disk and glue. I then painted them a color VERY close to the road tiles and here are the pictures.

Note: That these are almost exact seven tiles high and I turned the column such that a single hex fits perfectly on top to mate up to an adjacent tile. This will allow the columns to be used to build bridges and possibly a pantheon like roofed building....

I have four columns so far and four more in the works.

Nice job on the pillars and matching the height to standard HS heights. Thanks for posting the pics!

What about using some sort of shim on top to avoid the slant when stacking tiles on top. If you can find something the right size to make multiples, you'd be in business. I was thinking that it should have been done on the bottom when you were attatching the columns to the tile, but on top no one will see. It doesn't look real bad, so you could probably fly without it, but I think that is would really finish them.

Looks like it would match better if you switched to a warmer grey.

Looks Great Man.... I picked up some of the same columns a few weeks back and did not get to painting them yet. I like what you did. Your bridge idea is a great idea. Looks like I need to get cracking on some paint, shims and filler disks as well.
