View Full Version : Seattle Game Day!?! - Saturday, August 19th
bunjee
July 29th, 2006, 09:57 AM
Edit: I decided to setup a registration because a number of people were good on Saturday. If something changes, I'll switch it back, keep voting in the poll, Seattlites!
----------
So it looks like there are more than 3 users in the Seattle area on the board! So I'm going to start this thread to see if we can get committed to a game.
Please select which day you would like on the poll, in about 10 days I'll setup a registration on this thread based on the majority day.
I'm willing to offer our house. The only drawback might be space, we could manage multiples of the 1 or 2 master set maps if we use both the living/dining room and the library. Flat surfaces available for up to 3 maps and seatting available for up to 12 people, if we use the lawn furniture. Of course, if it is nice, we could just play outside, but then flat surface options drop to two tables and a makeshift "table". If we just do one 4 or 5 player map, then we can fit a 4 master set and expansions map up. We have 5 master sets, 5 RttFF, 5 Lava, and 1 Tundra (getting more Tundra later)
The whole house is only 900 square feet, so if there were actually 12 people, it would get really cozy playing inside. There are also 3 cats and a dog :D The cats get locked in the bedroom on gaming days.
If anyone else wants to offer up different space, post it here. I like to snack and have drinks (not necessarily alcohol, but the option is good) when I'm playing, so please offer up places that allow food.
There is plenty of parking at my place, and many buses run near here for the non-drivers among you.
This will be so cool!

Whoa, that's awesome...That's the start of my two weeks off this summer. I'll talk to my wife about it, but I think we might be able to do it.
That is, if you all even want an Oregonian at your get together. :D

Cool!
Does the wife play or would she just be along for the trip?
yagyuninja
July 29th, 2006, 02:20 PM
She does play, but pretty rarely.
She'll probably want to spend more time with her brother (we don't visit Seattle too often) rather than play Heroscape. We'll see though, she might change her mind!

I voted Saturday, because it works best for me. Sunday still works pretty well too. Count me in for 2 players!

I'm in for either day. I may be able to talk one or two other people from my playgroup into coming along. If so, I'll post as soon as I know.
This will rock!

I am extremely new to the game and have never even played anyone except my partner who was kind enough to try it out. I would love to come watch, maybe even play if the community isn't anything like the warhammer or most mini game players. I don't want to offend anyone I am just not a win at all cost kind of person. I like to have fun regardless of the outcome.

Oh heck ya! I really don't care if I win or not, not a competitive type. I mean, sure, I'll trash talk you a little bit, but that is just for fun.
You're welcome to join. With the number of people coming, I'm hoping to setup 3 maps and have people rotate.
I think I'll go ahead and setup the registration so we can see a running number.

Hey all, Sunday is clear for me, and Saturday might work. There's a wedding on that Saturday that I may be attending, but I don't know what time it is. Perhaps if it's earlier I can come by later that evening. I'll check...
For the record... Heroscape: way cooler than weddings. (unless it's your own, of course.)

So where exactly is your home? Just curious. I live in Leschi.Exactly will be provided in email to the registrees :D but for close enough, I live in Greenwood/Broadview. Walking distance to Oak Tree Cinema (if you know where that is)
Buses number 5, 75, 355, and 358 all stop nearby, if you can make it to the Northgate transit center, I could come get you and take you back.
I would be up for switching to Sunday, I'm fine with either. Heck, wanna make it both days? Two days of gaming

I registered as I'm not sure yet because that's the truth. A friend from Missouri might be in town that weekend and I can't be gone then. He hasn't cemented the date that he'll be here, so it still might work out.
Even if it doesn't though, I'll be interested in the next NW game day!

I've sent messages to a few people on this site and in my normal group to come join the game day if they like. I also encouraged them to post into the thread if they decide to attend.

the Lady is a net ship, but I hope the weather is cool! She was in Silverdale a few years ago and I took the kids on her. It wsa about 80 outside that made her below deck temp about 100!

E said he wanted to play Heroscape isntead of spending $90 for a 3 hour tour of lake Union.
What time exactly do we want to start?
Do we need to bring our figs?
Do we need to bring some food?
Do you need some extra tables? or chairs for that matter?
bunjee
August 7th, 2006, 02:50 AM
Glad that you posted here! Thank you!
Hmm, boy, starting times hadn't been discussed yet. I figure early to mid afternoon, say 3 or 4 pm? Does anyone have an opinion on starting times?
You should bring your figs so we can show everyone how cool our cases and nail polish bases are :D
Food, sure, bring what you want to snack on. I'll probably be making a Costco run earlier in the week to get some stuff, but since I don't know what people want, it will be generic.
I should be golden on tables, I recently acquired a different dining table, but haven't gotten rid of my current table. I also have 2 folding tables in the garage. And I'm going to adopt some metal folding chairs from work that can supplement the 8 regular chairs and 6 yard chairs that I have.
Wow, I think we're up to about 10 people now.
:excited:

 But maybe we can have another event in the near future?

August 10th, 2006, 12:51 AM
I'm still up for a second day of gaming if people want to come on Sunday. I would like to know that there would be at least 3 people playing, but I have no problems giving up the whole weekend to heroscape.
But if not, there will be more days of heroscape. It is nice that there are enough active seattle area people to get a game day going. There weren't many before.

Hello all,
I am set for tables and chairs. My house is pretty small, but it looks like the weather is going to be nice so we can always play outside.
I have 5 master sets, 5 RttFF, 4 Lava, 2 Tundra so we are probably ok for terrain.
People should bring armies they really want to play, I'll have all of mine and Elstree's but if people want to bring their entire collection, that is fine by me.
Hey Fuzzy, as for the Everett pick up games, I may be up for an occasional Everett drive, we'll chat more this weekend.

August 17th, 2006, 11:17 PM
I have Munchkin, Killer Bunnies, Carcassonne, Puerto Rico, Battleball, and tons of other games here that would be great for people if they get to wanting a break from scape. But it looks like you should bring your terrain as we discussed on the phone.
Ok all, just to clarify the space/tables etc issues. It is looking like we will have around 15 people at my house on Saturday. I'm fine with this but you all should know a few things.
My house is 900 sq feet. I have 1 bathroom. I have a sizable yard.
There will be 3 good size tables setup inside in the living/dining room space and 2 tables setup in the backyard. Since this is starting at 4pm, that gives us a solid 4 hours of outdoor gaming time.
My house is no smoking inside, I don't care about outside, I have a number of friends that smoke. As consideration for fellow gamers, smoking should be done away from the play area. Also, I don't care if people drink alcohol, I probably will, but may not.
The dog will wander around and sleep in the sun, the cats will be allowed outside that day and such will not bother the games. If they start to jump on tables, they will be banished to the bedroom.
I currently have a batch of foster kittens that are going into the adoption center on Sunday. If anyone is looking to adopt a kitten, or their mom, you can take a look at these little sweeties. I'll have a sign on the door reminding people not to open it as they are amazingly fast to get out and I don't want them to get out while the outer doors are open.
I hope this all works for everyone! And I hope I have the house clean in time! I'm not a very tidy person :?

Plenty of parking...
http://homepage.mac.com/jls/images/myplace-parking.jpg
My house is the one in the nice bright area. There is a "Door to Door" container parked in front that will be there through Sunday. The lightened area across the street that looks like a parking lot? Pretty much is a parking lot for the Seattle Interurban trail. You can park there, plenty of space. You can also park in front of the house just north of me as it is vacant. The person south of me rarely uses his front parking and probably won't mind if we need to overflow there.
I didn't run out of parking when I had 50 some people show up for a housewarming 2 years ago, I think we'll be fine.
I'm going to park behind the house (where you see the little red car).

we looked into it, but there were copyright issues, and parady issues, as well as complaints from spouses and other regions that felt that LARP'ing the name fell under their Day to day lives, so we were asked to retract it, and focus on something more acurate, such as HeroscapeUberNotoriousGamers

oh, right, the game plan!
I was looking at pre-building the same maps that were used at gencon, and also having lists of what armies were used there. Mostly because the maps made for good game movement so that people could play a few different games.
Since there will be 5 tables, I'm going to also build 1 of the 2 master set maps from the official site.
More details later, time to go home!

Hey, for those of us in the Central District: We should exchange info so that we can have spontaneous events. You know, when plans fall through, you suddenly have a couple of hours to killl and you feel like playing heroscape? Then we can walk a couple of blocks and play!
Whattaya say?
And to everybody who lives in Seattle: I often try to host games on Fridays starting at around noon. Is anybody else free at that time to meet at my place for heroscape? You may need to bring some stuff, as thus far I only have two basic sets, and Utgar's Rage.

I'm curious how many people showed up, whether it was all free play or if there was a tournament, how it went, etc.
It's great to see another region have a Heroscape Get-Together and hopefully develop a regional presence to potentially generate a NorthWest Champion of HS.
That would be neat to have them travel to CA next year and participate in any of the West Coast Championships next year (likely @ Kublacon).

It was very casusal ( which I loved ) no tourney , just some different boards were set up and we played. We swapped around players after each game. About 10-12 people showed up I believe. It lasted from 4 til ?? I had to leave about 9:30pm. Very nice group of people.

As others have said, all free play, no tourney setup. I really just wanted to get people together at my home for some casual scaping.
I had 5 tables available for playing on, 3 outdoors and 2 indoors. The weather was so nice we setup outdoors first. We settled on 3 maps:
Road to the Forgotten Forest (from RttFF manual) 2 players
Battlefield of Frozen Souls (from Tundra manual) 2-3 players
Wellspring of the Obsession (2 master set map from Heroscape.com) 4 players as 2 teams
This worked out great as some people there had not yet played on roads or Tundra. I would like to mention again that I really like the Frozen Souls map. It is a nice map to look at and a lot of fun to play for 2-3 players.
Road to the Forgotten Forest we didn't play as a scenario, we just did a kill all. My opponent hadn't played on roads before and I don't think the movement bonus impact sunk in early enough. Still fun. Ages ago I played with 2 other people (Elstree and Daveblank aka Daveman on older sites) using the fall of the dumutef bridge scenario, we each took a turn playing the defender spot, it was fun.
Wellspring of the Obsession is a lot of fun to play on, the guys that built it added a set of trees for texture and cover. The final built map barely fit on my larger folding table, the map measure 30-1/2"x49" and the table is 29-1/2" x 59-1/2" I played my second game of the evening as a team on this map for capture the flag, and, as mentioned in another thread, just used a slightly reduced version of my viper army that I had used in the first game. http://heroscapers.com/community/showthread.php?t=1981
At the end of the night, the table with Wellspring was just carried around to the front door and brought in to the living room, where it still sits. When my 7-1/2 year old nephew came over today, he wanted to play a little bit. We abandoned even a Basic game after the first attack role I made would have murdered his big dragon. We just stomped pieces around the board and made Rawring noises.
Here is a photo of Saturday, click it for the much larger version. An interesting note, of the 9 people playing, 3 were women. That is a 1:3 girl to guy ratio for those keeping track. Not bad for a gaming group. And if Cornpuff and his lady had arrived earlier it would have been 11 people with 4 girls!

Ooops! I couldn't remember which username I had on the old site so I picked one of my regulars. Looks like I guessed wrong.
It occurred to me while reading this that I only ended up playing the one game. Weird.

I have email notice turned on for this thread and the wa/oregon thread
