My son and I played a 500 point game last night and we had the bestest fun than ever in Heroscape history!
My team:
Jotun
Microcorp
Tagawa
Me-Burq-Sa
My son's team:
Syvaris
Raelin
Aurbian Archers
Sir Denrick
Brunak
Blade Gruts
I went straight for the attack and defense glyphs in the middle of the field and in water with the microcorp. It was a guns vs bows shootout that left 2 archers dead. Syvaris came to assist his students and took out an agent.
Me-burq-sa made his way along the road in hopes to get the jump on Syvaris. Initiative did not go my way...double attack...1 wound + 2 wounds = dead marro and a wasted #1 turn marker.
My agents continued to exchange fire with Syv and his lone underling only to get their armor pierced with arrows. Meanwhile the Tagawa was moving in on the road, setting up for the next round. Again, initiative did not go my way and my samurai were in the open...double attack = 2 dead Tagawa. My "last samurai" closed in on Syv and sliced the wind. He was taken down by the last archer from high ground.
At this point, my son claimed victory and I reminded him that I had one guy left...Jotun. Only losing 2 squad guys, my son was sure he would win and I was actually rooting for him.
But...
:jotun:
With a lot of ground to cover, Jotun took a few shots before reaching Syvaris and his little buddy and wasting them both after taking out their defense aura, Raelin. Brunak came up behind the giant and they went at it for a couple of turns, leaving the lava walker destroyed.
The giant then made his way toward the tiny orcs who all but 1 survived a wild swing. The blade gruts surrounded Jotun, cutting at his ankles and giving Sir Denrick time to be a giant killer. 3 turns to finish off the orcs and on the 3rd, Sir Denrick takes his chance against the giant who only needed 2 wounds to fall. The so called "giant killer's" attempt failed and for the first time I get initiative.
:jotun:
Jotun = 225pts
Jotun smashes 453.33 points.
Jotun don't cost that much!
And my son learned that when a big melee guy comes after your ranged guys, the best thing to do is retreat and fire. Even if it means leaving the initiative glyph and high ground.
