This game came free with my 360, and I've recently started playing through it.

I have one question for those in the know....is the version that comes free with 360s now the Gold version or the regular version? I ask because my character select menu has eight characters that I cannot select. There are red shadows of Sabretooth, Magneto, Doctor Doom, and Venom, and blue shadows of Hawkeye, Hulk, Cyclops, and Nightcrawler. I know these characters are available for download, but I didn't know they were teased like this in the normal game. If I have shadows of them on my menu is there a way to select them and I'm just missing it somehow?

Thanks for any help. My version of the game lists 1250 points of achievements, which I know is above the usual 1000...I have achievements listed that relate to Hulk, Sabretooth, et al....yet I can't seem to play as them. Do those shadows and achievements just show up in everybody's game once you get the auto-update?

Check out gamefaqs.com. That's where I go for all my gaming questions/cheats.

I checked there first. They could tell me all sorts of things about unlockables, but not what the DLC actually looks like in-game, or if there is a way to tell if my disc already has it based on the info I provided in the first post.

You also have to unlock (in-game) Daredevil, Black Panther, Doctor Strange, Blade, and some others, at least on the Wii version.

Yeah. Those figures are black shadows on the character select screen though. I've already unlocked Doctor Strange, and I've collected a couple of the figures needed to progress towards unlocking Daredevil and Black Panther. I anticipate that Ghost Rider and Blade will just show up during the game, like Doc Strange did, and I know Nick Fury unlocks when you beat the whole thing.

Right now my team is Spider-Woman, Iron Man, Wolverine, and Captain America. It's a nice team because they get the New Avengers boost and they offer a good mix of ranged power and melee strength. I have powered-up Spider-Woman to make her an absolute terror with that ranged blast and flight. I never would have thought that a character I'd barely heardof in comics would become my favorite game character.

I'll keep searching for info on the red and blue outlined characters...hopefully somebody else out there has the 360 version of this game and can offer some input.

I could be wrong, but originally I thought it came with the regular version. There is a way to verify. If it shows a picture of Ghost Rider, it's the regular version. I looked at the bundles on the Xbox website and it shows the picture of the original version. I think the picture on the Gold replaces Ghost Rider with Venom or the Hulk. Maybe an update to the game on Live created the outlines of the additional characters in case you do want to download them.

That must be the case. I think it's kind of tacky to advertise downloadable content in-game like that, but I guess it's the way of the future. I'm still getting used to this always-connected Xbox 360 world.

This game was somewhat entertaining. It would probably be a ton of fun if they made a heroscape game similar to it. I have submitted my idea for the game to Hasbro, but to no avail. I think it would be awesome.

A standard 360 game comes with only 1000 gamerscore points. Large downloads (like Shivering Isles for Oblivion) are now allowed to include an extra 250 points. The "Game of the Year" version of Oblivion comes with SI and 1250 points. Since your copy is "Gold" and has 1250 points, I'd be willing to bet that it has all of the content on the disc and the extra characters are simply unlockable. I'm unsure as to how you would get them. I'm not particularly interested in Hack and Slash games.

It was not the deluxe version. I had to buy the characters with points. It seems they did just put outlines of them there and listed the extra 250 achievement points as a teaser. Tacky, but whatcha gonna do.

I just finished the campaign.

I have one question that may be a spoiler for those not finished with the game....read at your peril.

Whatever happened with the Black Widow and Weasel storyline? The little sub-plot that had you trying to dig up evidence that Black Widow was a traitor? Was that storyline just dropped after I gave Weasel the password in Asgard? I didn't see him in the Inhumans base or Doomstark or any of the levels after Asgard, and never heard a peep about what became of that whole Black Widow sub-plot. Do I have to beat the game on a harder difficulty or something to find out?

Anyone who has beaten the game, please let me know....of all the storylines in the game that's the one that interested me the most, and it got dropped! Thanks!

SPOILERS!

If you go back to the area near the fireplace in the Dining Hall in Asgard, it SHOULD trigger a little dialogue about it... I think. Maybe you already did. I don't remember too clearly, but in the Wii version, at the very least, she turns out to be a traitor. Or did Nick say she wasn't a traitor? I forget.

...I'm sure that was helpful.

Yeah...that clears everything up. :-P

I thought I did that, as the last thing I did on this plot thread was to give Weasel the Black Widow's SHIELD computer password. I guess maybe I can use a SHIELD beacon to travel back there and check, but I don't know if the game works that way in terms of the side missions. I know he didn't give me any proof one way or the other, he just said he needed the password and I gave it to him and he thanked me for it.

I keep hoping there's some secret mission where I have to fight her as she threatens to destroy New York or something. Maybe I've just read the Ultimates too many times!

Okay I went back to Asgard and talked to Weasel again and he acted like he was all done and said something about waiting for his payment....then suddenly a few seconds later it just popped into an in-game cutscene and Nick Fury walks in and the whole plot is explained. Really weird, as it contained several points that would have made the Nilfheim level make more sense. I can't believe I didn't see that earlier. I think the game should have prompted me to go to Weasel if there was some big reveal like that. I figured out that I went to him after the bridge mission and after the Nilfheim mission, but did not go to him after the rescue Balder mission. That's too many times to check in with that guy! I thought the bridge and Balder missions were essentially one chapter.

This is a fun game, but it has it's janky moments.

Seriously? I'll have to check that out then I guess. I wonder if that means I have to battle Doom from my last save again? Or is there a way to check this out after I've beaten the game?

^Yeah, you probably have to fight Doom again. It comes after the part in the credits when the Marvel characters are saying their lines.

I just checked it out. I actually didn't have to fight Doom again...in fact when I tried to fight Doom again he wasn't there to fight...I would have had to restart form wherever my saved game was prior to that battle. Instead, I was able to just start the credits from the screen that lists all the cutscenes and movies. The Black Widow part is at the very end of the credits and is very brief. Basically she and Weasel are talking and he says he got Fury's brain wave pattern for her or some such, and that he'll get in a lot of trouble for this if anyone finds out he's working for her. She then says she needs him to do one more thing....take the fall. Then SHIELD Agents storm in and arrest him while she hangs up. So yeah, she's bad...something's up her sleeve for the next game I guess.

There is a nice setup for the next game....Galactus wants revenge on Earth and the Widow is planning something involving SHIELD.

I hope Thanos and the Red Skull show up too, or maybe Kingpin or Apocalypse, although I doubt they will use Apocalypse because he was the main villain in X-Men Legends II.

As for playables, I really wanted to be able to play as Black Widow, Vision, Namor, Jean Grey, and Beast, instead of having them just be NPCs. Throw in Cable, the Punisher, and maybe some villains like Doctor Octopus or Bullseye or Sandman or something and you'd have a heck of a sequel. I think it would be great if there were actually two campaigns....a main story with the heroes, and then a secret campaign where Nick Fury leads some suicide squad of villains.

It is a fun game. The sequel should be good because they're going to make it for next-gen only from what I hear. That should cut down on the jankiness and little graphical glitches and stuff because they will be able to make everything look and sound better without worrying about converting it to PS2 and regular XBOX.

What I would like to see in the sequel:

More worlds, longer story

Better graphics. I loved the graphics in the cutscenes and one thing that got me the big difference between the cutscene graphics and in-game graphics.

NO glitches

Make the characters more diverse. If that means slightly reducing the amount of playable characters that's fine.(They have plenty, several which I never once tried). What I mean is, for the most all the characters were somewhat watered down. Lots of different powers worked similarily, while overall characters ended up playing as either a brawler or ranged unit. Each character should be unique to play

If they could also make it somewhat more realistic that would also be great, in terms of the strength of the characters, e.g Elektra fighting on the same level as Thor. What I thought, was that there should be some sort of tier or point system. So the characters will all be of different strength levels, so they won't necessarily be around equal strength. And your team could only have a certain amount of points, but as you progress through the game, your total amount of points would increase, so you could have more heavy-hitters as the game progressed. So near the beginning of the game you would be using weaker charcters, like Elektra and Blade more, while near the end you'll have more power-houses on your team, like Thor, or Silver Surfer.

Hmmm.... Heroes having point values....Building a team of heroes with a limited amount of points.......Hey that sounds a lot like 'Scape!

I don't like the idea of heroes having point tiers, because I think you should, if you want to, be able to play the same team through the whole campaign with no penalties or difficulties. Purists will complain that puts Elektra and Thor on the same level, but its a game and I think that sacrifice needs to be made to keep the game fun.

I agree though, that the heroes could be a touch more varied, but I don't want their numbers reduced. I'd also like to see equipment show up on character models and be more varied....perhaps it could come in categories like belts, gloves/bracelets, necklaces, hats, etc....a character could wear one of each type. I don't want ANY reduction in characters. The only ones I'd think it okay to lose would be the four downloadable villains, as their inclusion in the story is questionable at best. If anything, I want more characters. I think the game should have had a playable Vision and Beast and Namor, instead of teasing us with them. It should also be slightly easier to unlock some of the hidden heroes. I really don't want to have to track down all the figures to find Daredevil and Black Panther. They should just unlock as you play, or when you beat the game, or for playing a certain number of multiplayer matches, or for multiple conditions like in Smash Bros.

If they do bring back playable villains, I'd want them as a second bonus campaign...sort of the black-ops squad of misfits.

I found myself vastly preferring ranged characters over melee, so I think melee characters need more perks. It was just too tempting to take Captain America, Spider-Woman, and Thor and range the heck out of everyone, leaving Wolverine only for auto-pilot cleanup because his healing factor would keep him alive.

Yeah...ditch the glitches, improve the graphics. I don't think they will be able to do the game as good as those AWESOME cut scenes without a lot of slow down (especially during multiplayer matches), but they could certainly do a better job than they did. The graphics should look current-gen this time around.

More worlds....eh, I thought they were big enough, and varied enough, and that the game was reasonably long. I mean we went from Atlantis to Outer Space to China to Valhalla to He-ll and beyond. That's pretty varied I think. In the next game I'd like to see a Savage Land level where you fight dinosaurs, and perhaps a level set in regular ol' New York City, where most of the characters are based anyway. A game set in the Morlock tunnels could be fun too.

I know. I have that game and really enjoyed it, but I'd like to see those areas make a return in Marvel Alliance. They're all big places, so there wouldn't have to be any overlap of level design. I was genuinely surprised that NYC didn't show up in Marvel Alliance. I want to fling manhole covers and parking meters at folks like in the old Ninja Turtle Game!

I don't think everyone would like some sort of point tier. You could still theoretically play the same team the whole game through; it would just be harder, because you could have more powerful charcters on your team. But even so, they definately could make heroes more varied(I'm sure everyone would like that). As for the graphics, I feel the next MUA would be for only next-gen consoles, so that wouldn't be a problem.

I guess all the "realistic" issues only bug me a bit since these are marvel characters and we know about how strong they are. If this game had been the exact same, but with no marvel characters, and was just some generic dungeon-crawler, those things wouldn't really bug me.

But we all love Marvel. 8)

For the next game, there's one thing I want - a more streamlined plot. While the one in the previous game certainly made sense (Doom and friends want to TAKE OVER THE UNIVERSE!!!), it felt all over the place. One minute you're in Valhalla, the next you're in outer space, then Earth, then Hell... so on and so forth.

I'd like a more natural plot progression next time around. Start off in a city, and slowly expand into the far reaches of the universe. Or something.

I'd like that too. I feel like the plot did too much fanboy service. All the heroes getting together kinda makes sense...like they all band together to stop some big crisis. But the villains and the settings were all over the place and didn't make a whole lot of sense. I like the outlandish settings, but I think the plot could do more to justify them and flow better. It might be nice if the main baddie showed up more thoughout the story too.
