View Full Version : It's shut up time.

I think we should all (even me) shut up about wanting pirates and dwarves and such.
Here's my theory.
I think they DO intend to make these items, but after HS sales die down a bit. That way people will be like 'HOLY CRAP, PIRATES' and get back into the game.
If they use all their A material all at once, everything else will seem lame in comparison.
So they'll spread it out.
Next wave has ninjas after all!

I don't know...we're gonna get the "P-word".
We, (not me), have made it clear that pirates are wanted.
Much like the Cowboys/lawmen,. I forced Hasbro to make ,
We'll see Pirates.
And Boats.
Arabian Knights?....Einar?

i thought the battle of all time was being waged on Valhalla, not Earth. ;)
i'd like to see some more Kyries and definitely more creatures. all these weakling humans running around Valhalla is making me yawn.

Yeah, how about a hydra. With detachable heads that can be attacked individually.

I can't remember if it was posted on a forum, but either Rob or Craig did mention a year ago or so that pirates and small units were coming.

small units are here in wave 5.
pirates, ehhh..whatever.
I agree with GaryLASQ: More kyries and creatures. Creatures like anything but humans. New stuff, like sea serpents, baby dragons, more undead, more elves, etc

Undead pirates would be better than regular pirates.

as long as they can be killed in either day light or moon light, undead pirates could be fun. None of that PotC based crap.

Yeah, I would love to see pirates. Undead pirates especially. I hope they come out soon. That would rule.

I have to agree with the others. This is the battle of all time. Humans really should not have suhc a large hand in it as they do. They should be there, but not so many of them.
I do see why Hasbro does throw so many humans in there. For one thing it boosts sales. I am sure that everyone has some time period that they love. So Hasbro is trying to make figures for many-all of those times.
I would love as many others would to have more creatues in general. Maybe not dragons since we do have several or even robots. More elves, and more different species would be cool. However, adding more species will some what force them to create more since it would be dumb to create more species like the gorillinators who only have three characters.
Honestly I think there should be way more Kyrie. I understand that they have a small amount of Kyrie left on Vahalla since the war, but this is their war. They should be in it.
Honestly not to sound negative, humans will continue to be a large force in HS. That is something that cannot be changed.
It makes me wonder however. Is it that Earth is so chaotic that we have so many heroes vs other worlds that may have been much more peaceful so they don't have as many daring hero types. Or is it that Hasbro just loves our history a lot?
But no matter what happens, I will continue to buy their products as long as they stay fun.

I'd disagree on the whole 'less humans' thing.
Look at us, we have a very rich history of war.
It's interesting, it has alot of resources to pull from.
Contrastly
How many different types of snakes can they throw at us before we get bored? What different time period of orcs can they really do differently? Don't get me wrong, I love snakes, and the idea of having orcs in big battlesuits and guns are just awsome, but theres something in our minds that can differentiate between different styles of humans more readily than anything else.
If they start showing us snakes in different hats, or orcs in different uniforms, theres going to be a sameness about it all. But the difference between knights, arabian fighters, samurai, scotish guys, etc, they register in our minds as quite different, even though they all use swords.
More types of races like snakes and orcs would be great instead of one hit wonders like the gorillinators. But we're REALLY going to need a good 40% human 60% others ratio to really keep the thing going.

I'll second that emotion. Pirates do nothing for me. Not because I don't like pirates as a theme, but because we already have soooo many human melee units - knights, MacDirks, Greeks, Romans, viking champions (3), Drake, Alistair, samurai (2), and now Gladiators, ninja, amazons, and yet more samurai.
What specifically do people think pirates will add to the game dynamics, besides atmosphere?
I'd like to see more monsters or more characters with interesting powers. I think wizards are a HUGE untapped field for new powers like Negate - reducing (or buffing) someone's movement or attack or defense or range.
Just get a D&D Monster Manual and start ripping ideas off left and right!

I'd say the same thing about Dwarves, what can they really add?

I see no reason why pirates would be "just another melee squad" and not add anything to the game.
Dwarves too, could add a lot. IT all comes down to rules and powers.
Pirates could have ranged and melee abilities, monkey/parrot helpers, undead abilities, sword fighting swashbuckling skills, ladder climbing skills, swimming abilities, theft abilities, etc etc etc etc.
Dwarves could have special abilies to fight dragons or orcs, do heavy damage and roll lots of defense, but be slow and small.
I don't think it possible for HS to blow its wad. As this game is the battle of all time there is an absolutely insane number of things they can do, even if they decide to totally disregard Earth history.
I've idly sat around sketching out the types of figures that could be in expansions during downtime at work, and I can easily get this game up to Wave Twenty. Easily. Without even expanding on existing armies to their fullest extent. That's maybe 5 years or more down the road. Official HS will never, ever, ever run out of things to make, or new ways to play....the system is far to versatile for that.
Even if they never added another power, there are enough abilites in the game that interesting and bizarre new combos could be made....enough to last the game a long time.

I'm ok with humans as long as there is a balance- I also don't want to see an oversaturation of mankind in Heroscape- However i think the ratio is good at %40-50 human- Valhalla was essentially a human ideal of the afterlife, not marro, viper, orc, etc. (if you really want to wax semantics you could say that everything we know of is human based but why go there?)
The thought behind more mankind in heroscape could be marketing/human nature- we like the idea of being a recognizeable force in the destiny of this universe- why else would virtually every game (video/board/tabletop) have so much human influence. We, as a species, want to feel bigger and more significant than what we really are in this 'verse.

Agreed - the possibilities are endless. No real concern here about HS running dry, in theory.
And your suggestions are very helpful. Some of those ideas sound really interesting. But I suppose therein lies my concern - I'm not sure if official pirates or dwarves released would be as interesting as the things you're suggesting.
I'm reflecting on the last few melee humans - esp. greeks and macdirks - really didn't add that much new or fresh to the game. I'm sure there are some people who love them, but my experience has been that people NEVER draft those units, and that the response to them overall on the board hasn't been great.
I hope whoever creates the new powers browses this thread and reads your input bro. Some great basic concepts.
And I must say - I laughed audibly at "monkey/parrot helpers."

I'd disagree on the whole 'less humans' thing.
Look at us, we have a very rich history of war.
It's interesting, it has alot of resources to pull from.so does pure imagination.
but the storyline does indicate the Kyries (except for Utgar) wish to draw heavily from Earth. and of course they figure the kids want more heroes from Earth. although my son loves the Vipers...all of them. he's played them against me many times.
The thought behind more mankind in heroscape could be marketing/human nature- we like the idea of being a recognizeable force in the destiny of this universe- why else would virtually every game (video/board/tabletop) have so much human influence.
