OK, just out of curiosity, who here has made, thought about making, or wants to make their own set of custom HS dice?

Am I the only one?

Wow, that's a scary thought. Maybe I AM as weird as everyone says I am.

NAH! That's just silly! :P

Nope, your not that weird. I've made a few sets of custom dice for HS, though, none of them are all that pretty (my Epilog is acting up).

Somewhere there is a thread I restarted from HQ about making customized dice sets for sale. I had to move my business and have been tied up since April. I hope to revive the thread soon and contact all the people who emailed me about ordering sets.

jtserick and josh-n-papa both have threads concerning the creation of custom dice. Both are owner/operators of some sort of acylic industry shops. You can get them in custom designs, many designs are located in their specific threads ...

I have a set created by josh-n-papa:

And, plan to get another set in the future!

Cool, could any of you guys who mentioned those 2 threads post a link to them. I did searches and couldn't find 'em. Wait, now that I know who the author is, I could search that way....nevermind.

Anyway, I was basically wondering if any players had made their own non-manufactured dice. I thought it would be cool to have one thread for everyone with custom dice to post pics of their own dice (with comments of course).

If anyone's wondering, I have made my own dice, albeit extremely crude. I basically just got a dice set with white pips and colored in the pips to make 3 red-pip-sides, 2 blue-pip-sides, and left one white pipped.

Here's a pic I took of them (on accident, strangely) when photographing my dice tower.

:? That's odd! :?: Did you click on the link for the full size? Does it show up discolored then too? I'm really curious now.

I see the colors, but they are pretty faint. The large pic shows the colors better, but they are still on the light side.

Yeah, I think the main problem would be how to get the coat to dry evenly. Of course, me being me, I'm already coming up with wacky ways to accomplish this...depends on ho much trouble you'd ant to put into it I guess.

i was in Wally mart yesterday and testors has a spray paint adaptor to their model paint. I could buy some clear gloss and a spray paint kit ans spray them. That was one thing i though of.

Another way was that i could pour some clear gloss into a bowl or something and dip the dice in it to cover all 6 sides at once, but then you gotta think "well, how will they dry with out ofsetting the paint?"

Any suggestions, guys?

Yeah, that was what I was thinking as well. Like you said before, the main concern is an even coating. I really don't know any simple way of drying a dipped die without touching it. If you're willing to do the spray idea, I've got an idea for getting an even spray coat, but it's a little complicated.
First, make a little box with dividers so each die has it's own little square space exactly to size (so the paint can't get down the sides). Coat the dividers with a light non-stick coating (some type of oil that won't react with the type of paint). Then place them in the dividers and spray with a light coat (any extra paint will collect around the edges). If it's too light, you can recoat with another light coat, if it's too heavy, well, you'd have to strip it and sart over. After drying completely remove from dividers. Repeat for other 5 sides.

Well, that's off the top of my head. There may be a simpler way to do it...but this is all I can come up with for now. I'm no expert, just a crazy inventor.

or, instead of making little boxes, you could tape off 5 sides at a time and get the same effects.

I just used clear fingernail polish and did one side at a time. It dried pretty fast and I haven't noticed a difference in rolling. Maybe I should do a really freakin huge test to see if...nah.

so just painting the one side at a time didn't really affect it much? I figured it wouldn't, but wasn;t willing to take the risk on the only set of good dice i have

I was thinking of just lining them all up so I'm looking at a diagonal view with three sides showing. Spray the visible dice. Dry. Flip to the opposite triad of sides and repeat. Maybe go really light on each coat so there isn't any dripping.

Must ask - is the tray at the bottom of your dice tower lined with chocolate? Doesnt that get your dice dirty when used constantly?
On a serious note, nice amazonian-rainforest look to the tower. Smart diea for alternative dice too
