View Full Version : First to say thanks

I just wanted to be the first to thank all you guys for giving us a place to discuss heroscape and anything else. Giving us a place to call our community.

I was a huge fan of the community feeling we had over at the HQ, when I first got there. I made what I would consider friends. I have met a couple people from the boards, I plan on meeting more of you at Gencon this summer. I really wish I would have been into the game during the .net days.

I was a huge proponent of not bashing GW, I still am. The man provided us a place to congregate, to call our community, to make friends, to talk about whatever we wanted, he provided a great service to all of us and to him I say thanks. I think with the lack of support and the current downtime its time to move on. I have noticed lots arguing and bickering (myself included), it led to many members leaving, which is sad. I found myself posting there less and less as of late.

The real reason I wanted to start this thread is because I want to say thanks to Grungebob, Malechi, Hex_Enduction_Hour, Kenntak, and Oogie_Da_Bruce and of course ScreamingTruth. All your guys' hard work on this new place for us to call home is extremely appreciated (at least by me, anyway). Especially ScreamingTruth, if I haven't said this before, you sir, are the man. First you created the ST forums for a lot us to hang out in while the HQ was going through its rough patch. Now you come along with this new place. My hat is off to you. You truly care about the community.

You all deserve better words than I can write...

Good job, NS! No need to sling mud (unless you are Mire) :D . Thanks, Truth for bringing up a new site for us HSers to hang out!

Anything I can do to help, let me know!

I hope we can, I really do. There is so much there...it would be so bad if all the hard work from everyone was gone forever.

I've sent an email to GW letting him know that I was resigning my postion as HQ staff and that I've started my own site for the HS community. That I was appreciative of the work he has done but I and other community leaders felt that we needed to make a move to some place where we have more control as he seems to be called away on other endeavors. I implored his help on making this transition smooth by getting the site back up for a period to allow us to salvage what we need and get the word out about this site and then prehaps even set up HQ as a redirect. I can't say that he'll do any of this, but it dosn't hurt to try.

I assume that he would, he seems to like us, he was just without time. I don't think he's the type to be a spoiled sport, but then again I don't know him as well as you all do.

Well, now to see how long it takes to get a solid core of say 100 good solid posters.

Thanks for setting up something to replace HQ. As much fun as we had there at times, I really hate to see it go. but I guess it just was not ment to be.

Aaahh, I can read the site!

Actually, I've come up with a theory. I think that the new dark text on light background will actually help people edit their posts better! You see, at HQ, when you were typing a response, you were typing black on a grey background, which was hard to read, but more importantly you couldn't see where the cursor was positioned! Now, editing is a snap.

This is wonderful.

I want to tell all of you that this site is really very well done.
I think that the dying gasp of HQ is not far from the ear (gasp inserted here), and this site is going to be the standard to which all Heroscape sites should be measured.
the Maps and Scenarios section was excellent. I think the maps are imaginative and clever, I grabbed a few for my Scaper group, thank you all very much.
I didn't want to put this post in the map section, it wouldn't belong there, and I thought this is a general discussion topic anyway.
thank you all for keeping this game fresh, fun and new.
anyone who says that an expandable game like this one will eventually run out of ideas, lose allure just fade away hasn't seen what you people do with what we have.
thank you all.

alright, I'm here....
I'd still like to hear something from GW... I feel like Benedict Arnold...
but this really does look great!

hey happy J you posted something over on HQ about wanting to be convinced that moving over here was a good idea because you didn't want to see the community split.

I didn't want to respond there because my title still says staff over there and I've emailed GW resigning that position, and so I don't want the people remaining at HQ believing I'm still there to help them with their questions etc.

Anyhow, the few staying there are the ones helping to split the community. Wether you want to come to terms with it or not, GW is NEVER there! A few of the LONG term leaders of this community have banded together to solve the problem, with the community being on rocky ground, the only way we could. (AND BELIEVE ME WE TRIED OTHER WAYS!) Now the innception of this site has gone incredibly well, and that is a good thing. A few are choosing to stay over at HQ, but those are the ones being contrary and splitting off. THIS IS A MASS EXODUS because it was called for by the active staff members... ALL OF THE ACTIVE STAFF MEMBERS. You can cling to HQ if you like, but 5-6 posters hardly make a community. In fact I think it's a SLAP in the face, to stay over there out of sheer stubborness, to those who have LONG been DEDICATED to this community and have worked hard to keep it together, and with a home by building this site.

I mean FOR GOD'S SAKE MAN the site was down for 2 full days without a SINGLE word as to why!! We've lost a years worth of posts with no action at all to get them back. The site has been sluggish since day one and since day one we've been getting promises that it will be fixed with no result!

I'm thankful that GW stepped up, but he simply does not have the time to fulfil his position. It is time he step down and let those who do take over. And though he hasn't responded to my email (he's famous for not responding) I believe that is what he is doing. I asked him if he would support us by getting the site back up long enough for us to let people know where we are at and scavange their stuff and then allow us to buy the HQ url for use in a redirect. We shall see what becomes of this.

I feel that GW may very well feel relieved by this. As he knows as well as any of us that he hasn't been able to find time to keep up on the site and we're just taking one big task off of his plate.

So do what you will but the community's core is here at heroscapers and it will be around for a VERY long time. You can copy and paste this post wherever you will, for it is my final and offical word on matters of spliting the community.

You can copy and paste this post wherever you will, for it is my final and offical word on matters of spliting the community.I would just like to echo what truth just said. The folks who are hanging on to some kind of sense of loyalty are missing a few very crucial point here. Those of us that worked to maintain HQ for almost a year did it without pay/compensation of any kind. WE are the ones who were putting in the effort for the community without leadership, and without answers. Every day dealing with countless posts and PM's asking why something is broken or why we can't have a separate section on the forum for meeting other scapers, or any of the many many other questions and complaints we dealt with daily. I have personally emailed GW many times to ask and inform him of problems. On the rare occasion that he answered my emails he mentioned that he just did not have the time to fix whatever needed fixing. He was polite and I am not complaining about his character. I truly believe that he is too busy. With missing posts, vacant leadership, and questions of stability, I felt that if we wanted this community to survive intact we needed to create a place where the leadership and ownership is in the hands of those that care most about the game and the fellowship that has evolved because of it. Now if this sounds like jumping ship, then so be it. I would describe more like spotting land and steering us to new and more stable ground.

I personaly plan to give Gbob a Dime when I see him for all the times I've asked to be a Mod, he can put those dimes towards this page, then I can get my nifty "z" tital back (I don't want the nifty sight suporter tital thing I want to look like I'm not that cool) I'm so off topic right now.

You get 2 strikes for everytime you ask for a title. Everytime I think about giving you a title if there are strikes in your account you don't get one

This goes for UD only... the rest of you ask away... I will then promptly ignore your request no strikes involved.

What if we ask to give UD a tital (LOL...title)? :D

Does he get strikes then?

I just had a mental image of Grungebob in a black and gray penstriped suit, sitting in a back booth of a dark and smokey Italian restaurant? The next thing you know, it's gonna be, "Funny, funny how? I amuse you? What am I a clown, now?"

Hahah! I use the word capiche ONCE in my lifetime and I catch grief about it!!! Hah I guess a Texan tossing around mob lingo does seem kind of silly!!

maybe it's because you spelled it C-A-P-I-C-H-E ?!

"capisce" by the way is pronounced something like "ka-pee-shay", not "cup-peach" like joe pesci says when he's trying to sound like a bad ass.

You guys have done a great job with this site and I am spending about 75% of my time here. Very nicely and proffesionally done. But now to my point. Have you ever seen Fight Club? Hq's kinda feels like that house they were living in with the leaks and where they would ride the bicycle through the halls. I pretty much get to ride my bike all over the place now over there and get away with it. I can keep most of my productive stuff here and spread peanut butter all over mysef over there. Gotta love it. So don't take it the wrong way if you see me posting over there, most of the people I like are here now. But I am honestly having a whole bunch of fun over there now. Wheres my damn kazoo I,m heading back to HQs!!!!!

Ahhh Bob!! Going to Gencon this year??!!

Yep, we'll be there all 4 days

For those of you who can't see through Bob's Disguise he's the poster formely known as: ~Bob

For the old old schoolers, I was originally just BoB at hs.net, but had to add the ~ when making my name on hshq.com. So, there you go, more proof that we had to move one last time.

I like this a lot too. Have you noticed that there is an option to change the board color but all you can do is subSilver? I hope we can get more options soon.
