View Full Version : Zeek's custom cards.......Son-of-Krug!
July 24th, 2006, 02:44 AM
Hey guys. I know you have not heard much from me since January. I have been on the road. I was forced to change jobs due to medical reasons, and I now drive a semi. I have pretty much been on the road 98 percent of the time since the third week of the year.
I now have a lap-top so that I can get my e-mail on the road, and do a little surfing. I hope to up-load all of my old cards, and if I have any time I may finish a few ideas I was rolling around before I went on the road. The only problem is that I wont be able to do any playtesting at all!
So lets start with a little humor, my favorit pair of brothers.

Welcome back, Zeke - all that driving around in a semi has warped your custom sensiblities - 5 apples high?!?
Be sure to post your other customs here. Didn't you have a Gorillanator unique hero?
July 24th, 2006, 02:57 AM
Yes, he was a very early custom of mine.
July 24th, 2006, 03:05 AM
Gorilla Grod! I got him as a freebee at last years gencon! He's the only clix figure I have.
I may have to try your Ape-X custom, his abilities and pricepoint seem very reasonable. Has he seen much playtesting?
I also ripped off that yellow base, without it he looks like he would fit right in!

Another early custom of mine was Agent Johny Alpha.
Yes, I know the "Take cover" special ability was worded for my gaming groups custom terain and not the HS community at large. I will make changes to the card in the future.
July 24th, 2006, 03:16 AM
Two more early cards that share an ability.
July 24th, 2006, 03:20 AM
Yes Ape-X did see much playtesting, by my group and quite a few people on the old HQ.
He fits his roll admirably.

I repainted an old MK earth elemental fig and made a custom for it. I made three cards with different stats for the purpose of playtesting it with my gaming group. We settled on one of them and I posted that one to the old HQ, but I cant remember which one it was. So here are all three, and if anyone can remember which one it was I would greatly appreciate the help in sorting this out. All my stuff is at home, all I have with me are the files on my lap-top.
July 24th, 2006, 03:33 AM
And here is the smaller Moltarn to go with it.
July 24th, 2006, 03:44 AM
Two snow units, long before we had snow.
July 24th, 2006, 03:51 AM
I love this one. His ability is very Kung-Fu movie-ish. Very cinematic, and it really is no help to him, just the monks. He can use it in situations that would then leave him behind and unable to follow.
July 24th, 2006, 04:05 AM
some of my Japanese stuff.
July 24th, 2006, 04:10 AM
Another agent, and yes this one is for Jandar, because she of a high moral fiber!
July 24th, 2006, 04:25 AM
Ok, this one took a little bit of explaining on the old HQ, so I will do that first. If you look at this figure it is not an undead creature, it is metalic. It looks like a robot in a death robe. It is also too dark to be an Omnicron, so it had to be a Zetian. So I figured that the "Soul borgs" needed to get the souls from somewhere. I decided that they "Harvest" them from living beings. I also decided that this had to be done when in physical contact. You cant harvest a soul with a beam weapon from 300 yards! But then I needed to get the figs in contact, and I wanted them to be theamaticaly scarey, so I looked at the figure, and noticed that its posture made it look like it was floating and dancing at the same time, and I got this image of it hovering, spinning, zigging and zagging across the battlefield in a macabre "Dance of Death" or "Harvest Dance."

This one I felt made sense, and was a great addition to the Knights. Both the Knights and the Omnicron are followers of Jandar. It might be easy for the omnicron to set up a shop in Vallhala to keep themselves in good repair. Then it would be just another small step for them to construct several automated steeds for some of the knights.
I expected to get some discusion going about these when I first posted this card on the old HQ, but I got absolutely nothing, good or bad. No feedback at all.

like the customs great ideas with the different colored samurai :D
July 24th, 2006, 11:01 AM
I like take cover, my group (being me) plays:
If there is a wall between you and your opponent add one die to you defense. This applies to my Custom Terrain as well as Hasbro’s walls, and a two hex rise between the opponents.
IF you can only see 1/4 of an opponent add one to their defense die.
Forgot to mention that effects every figure.
The steed robot needs a new name. I like hover, and I think the steed needs a blue and white paint job.

Wowza! Some cool stuff here. Like the samurai stuff especially. Look forward to seeing more of your creations Zeek

Two Shield cards.

Zeke , do you think a common version of the Izumi should be the same price points as a unique squad of Izumi? To get common with the same stats and abilities seems way powerful. Just wondering what your take was on the pricing of Mercenaries and Shogun.
July 25th, 2006, 02:13 AM
Two "Shamen" and some equipment.
Skull #2 in an easier to read format.
July 25th, 2006, 02:22 AM
That 5 apples high part cracked me up really good. That is freaking tall for a smurf. And, sorry can't resist, that special is smurfy!
July 26th, 2006, 01:31 AM
This card is another that took a little "splainin" for folks to "unerstan."
She is one of the kyre that are charged with finding great warriors and bringing them back to fight. Her ability represents her returning in the middle of a battle with a hero or squad that she has just "collected."
July 26th, 2006, 02:07 AM
Here are two cards that add to the wolven army.
August 6th, 2006, 12:29 AM
Sorry H-E-H didn't see your question right away.
That card was made at a time when my group was on a heavy "ranged unit" kick. The all hth cards saw little use at the time and did not seem to be worth their points.
That changed after I made a bunch of custom blocking terain and removed the "total theater control" that the ranged units had enjoyed.
I still feel the points values are pretty valid, as there is a small advantage to being a unique squad. I also feel that the "new samurai" cast a shadow over the Izumi, even at twice the price, and i like the idea of having more of the "normal" samurai around to keep the Tagawa from looming so large. With many samurai around, the Tagawa are again reduced to the status of a unique squad of very skilled samurai, as opposed to them being the "other," "better" squad of samurai.

Well it’s been a few days since i have had time to do any custom work. I really need to put the photo shop type software on my laptop so I can work on stuff while I’m on the road.
I saw this photo posted by justjohn, and had an idea for a card.
After taking a turn with any unique hero of Utgar that is not a champion or warlord, you may then take a turn with one Son-of-Krug.
If the son of krug is adjacent to a target figure that is also adjacent to a unique hero of utgar, the Son-of -Krug may use the Utgar dice and count utgar symbols as skulls.
Yes ladies and gents, Krug likes the little blue-skinned ladies......especially when they don't break! Yeah, ew, yuck!
The way I see it, every game out there has some kind of half orc in it. Why? Well because the orc ladies will happily and willingly mate with just about anything that moves, and the orc men will happily and willingly rape anything that moves,......so,....lots of half orcs.
And now everybody.....ew, yuck!
November 3rd, 2006, 10:01 PM
I really like the Kyrie that collects warriors thats cool. The wolf cards get much love too. You got some killer ideas man.
November 4th, 2006, 03:30 PM
Well I just noticed that I did not finish my explanation of the Sons-of-Krug. The specials are intended to be thematic based on the half orc boys growing up in the orc tribe partly ostracized. The sons of Krug are not considered handsome by orc standards, or very smart. As stated before this does not keep them from having girlfriends…..but it does affect them emotionally. They fixate on the more popular individuals in the armies of Utgar, and follow them around like star-struck puppies, showing off to gain attention.
November 4th, 2006, 06:09 PM
whats the figure thats been used for Son Of Krug, Zeek?
November 6th, 2006, 01:07 AM
The figure is the Savage ogre from the first Dreamblade set.
I think it makes a great Half-troll/half-orc.
November 6th, 2006, 01:34 AM
Hey Zeek, cool customs. I especially like Son of Krug. May I ask. Why a common hero?
November 6th, 2006, 09:27 AM
Common hero, because Krug is still making as many little half orcs as he can, and they are all big, ugly, and slow!
November 6th, 2006, 02:46 PM
I think the confusion stems from the fact that son-of-Krug is the name of each hero unit, but being as Krug is a breeder, they are common and more than one can come into play. While you may draft several Sons, each unit is a Son- of Krug.
November 7th, 2006, 09:31 AM
Yes! Most unique heros have names, while common heros have "descriptions." I started out calling this card the sons of krug, but as there was only one fig per card it just did not work. I gues I could call it "A Son-of-Krug."

Well, a recent post about a lack of participation in this community has made me realize how rude I have been on this thread. Back on net, I made a point of responding with gratitude to each person who visited my customs thread, and to thank them for all feedback, good or bad. I fear that has not been the case so far on this site, and a total lack of time is no excuse.
So I would like to thank all of the following people who have visited and posted in my thread, even if it was just to ask a question.
Thank you all!
