It's an admirable trait when one is necessary - I gave Codeman my apology for something different in that unnecessary firestorm - not for criticizing a map choice. There's nothing wrong with feedback, even when it's negative, as long as it's politely coached, which it was.

I guess I am just thankful that someone has taken on the time and effort to make a tourney happen. Espeically one as grandiose as the TTO that can accomadate 60 players and has prizes for everyone.
There is an old adage Wytefang. If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all.

Yep, and we reiterated over and over again just how thankful we were for that tourney - at least I did. :)
I agree with that old adage you quoted and another one I like is about "not seeing the forest for the trees". Anyway, back on topic, it sounds like you're lined up for a strong group of players at this Austin event...wonder who the odds-on favorite will be to win it all?

If I decide to donate to the prize table, do I get anything special? I might just bring a Hawthorne to put up as a prize.
I'll give you something special if you donate it to me.

Yeargh! Before every tournament I get this feeling of uncertainty about the army I choose, and It's hitting me right now! Should I have chosen an army with different strengths? More heroes? More squads? What about big attacks? More attacks per turn?
It's hard to rest easy on a final decision when you don't know who you'll be up against. The only person who I know for sure doesn't have this problem is Codeman :) Fortunately I have the rest of Team Nowhere to bounce my ideas off of and build the right army! I'm getting ants in my pants waiting for Saturday!

No takers on some gas money? You? Or you? How about you over there? The thing is, I own a fully insured ride with good gas mileage, (pretty weak being a beggar for a ride in my case). It's just that I'm super broke and planning on being stuck at work till midnight or later on friday, so I'm not really looking forward to the drive.
I am also still incredibly sore from the mosh pit I was in last sunday. 2 hours of straight mosh pit skankin for a smoker who didn't stretch ahead of time takes quite a recovery (apparently). Seriously, at one point I was close to the bottom of a 10 punk rocker mosh collapse. I feel like an old man with a cane who was pushed off a bridge and when he hit the ground was run over by a dumptruck. And some dude kicked me in the nuts super hard to top it off.
Anyhoo, I'm sure if noone wants to carpool I'll have to drive. I got another question: Is anyone up for playing a few or more games after the tourney? At this point in my blackhole wallet days, I find it hard to ration gas for a long drive for a few games. If I had 20 more bucks to my name I wouldn't even fret it. Thanks ahead of time for giving me an answer.

Looks like I am going to miss this one after all. It sounds like fun but gas prices are skyrocketing and it was short notice for a few of the guys I play with.

We will probably have to evacuate the place after the tourney to make way for the supper crowd, but you can come pack to my place afterwards for a few more games.

All that is left is to load up and head to Austin.

I thought of a name for my army, too - Shiny Skirt.

Jormi, I wrote in before Tchop to reserve a spot yesterday and he got put on the list and I didn't. I am riding with him and was hoping to get into the tourney. What gives? I will do my best to bring a map, but all my stuff is built into one giant map right now and will be a pain to take apart and build by Saturday morning. Please let me know if I can slip in, otherwise I will do my best to build one. Please let me know ASAP about the map thing so I can get to work as soon as I get home from work.
Thanks.

My armies never have names since they're usually a hodgepodge of units.
Though I will reveal that this time I'm bringing 3 heroes (no fillers!) and 12 squad members. I will be bringing exactly 9 wound markers. My army will feature units rated A+, A, B-, and C+. It's all Utgar except for one piece from Jandar.

By the way, I'm going to bring all my figures (less than 100  ) so people can tell me what they think I should pick for the common squads. Unless you don't want me to, that is. I don't care. I'm bringing them anyways. Because all of you care about this.

I had a great time today--thanks to everyone who helped make the event happen!
My playing this time was pretty abysmal, so I'll spare you all the battle reports. I will say that I was pretty surprised to find that the rats watered down the effectiveness of my army! My army was:
Raelin (SotM)
Me-Burq-Sa
Stingers x3
Rats x3
Someone suggested I needed to drop the third squad of rats and put in a more active killing unit. Hm, maybe I'll just give in and play Q9 next time!
And for a bonus adventure: it turns out that my car is actually a transformer! On the drive home it managed to transform itself from a fully functional automobile into a useless chunk of metal. And we were only 2 miles from home! At this point all I can do is laugh about it, especially since a car-savvy friend said it might be a relatively simple fix.
Anyway, that's all for me tonight. I'm hitting the hay early tonight; it was a long day! Thanks, everyone!

March 16th, 2008, 12:08 AM
Well, I'll be the first to go up on the battle reports...
This is my army
James Murphy
Cyprien
Sonya
2x Omnicron Snipers
MY first battle
His army
3x fourth mass
2x knights
Jandars Flag bearer....
Map: the one with lava...
At first I thought I was screwed... He took out three omnicron snipers, and james murphy while only losing three fourth mass. Well, Time for my favorite unit on it's seemingly hopeless mission. Well Taking height most of the time and rolling over 11 with chilling touch most of the time, I was taking out two-ish knights and musket men in a turn. A few wounds but then a few life drain later it was cyprien with 3 wounds vs a full health Gilbert. I took height right where he can't even match me, and I rolled a nice 18 with sonya staying back in the starting zone, I got the 20 and killed gilbert, was an amazing game that I somehow won... Either by luck or skill...
Next Army
Cyprien
Taelord
Omnicron Snipers
rats.
Map the swampy one....
Well, not really sure what to do, I put most of my snipers on the closest high ground, while he eventually moved his cyprien to the corner I had james, sonya and 2 snipers at. Well after quite a few turns I moved my cyprien to his and decided to pick off taelord and I did. MY snipers played an unusual big role and killed some of his and some of his rats. One rat was on the wound glyph and for 4 rounds I put it on my fully health james, and then when Cyprien had 1 life left and same with james, I killed one of my 3 snipers left. His cyprien bite the dust when I had my cyprien against him and then shot him in the back with a sniper...
Then I played clean up with the rest of his rats....
Appearantly Nebraska was kicking ass, the 4 of the 5 who had 2 wins faced each other...I was sadly the worst on of the four...So I had to face Deliverymanxas....Second time I had to face him in two tourneys and secound time it was the third round....
Well, I lost...Horribly. Only killed 4 stingers.... and wound his nieflhiem till he was down to his last breath before wtihin 3 turns he killed cyprien, and then the rest of my army with ice shard....
I think His army was
Neiflheim
3x stingers
KMA
Sad that the last match only took 15 minutes....
I face TCHOP
He ran
vikings
2-ish deathstalkers
Ninjas...
map Marro Highway
Well, sadly letting my vampire out early and reatreating after taking out half of his vikings and then wiping out the rest with my snipers. He started bringing his dawgs and mauled my cyprien. Then after a few round he killed 3 snipers and I had killed his puppies... Then the hard thing, the ninjas. Well I started bringing James up and killing only one ninja... I then decided to kill the rest with the 3 snipers i had on height...mostly because james was assasinated. After 2 skulls which equal 4 attack, the ninjas couldn't disappear and died...
Well, before the thing started, I played the 5th nebraskan that came with us and lost to with a showdown between krug and cyprien, with the beast walking away victorious but limping....
Mikes army
Krug
Mimring
1x arrow gruts
isamu
cyprien
Well, with another bad mistak he firlined 2 snipers. while I was wounding the dragon with my others and moving on his cyprien with mine. Well His ran away, and I took it upon myself to reak havok on his starting zone killing his last grut and isamu. Then leaving before krug moved. I then went over and Killed mimring... With a wounded cyprien...sonya and james. Krug moved it. I was planning on keeping cyprien away so I would jsut have to wait out just in case james couldn't range krug or sonya to wound him enough. Well a few mistakes and James died, Sonya died and Cyprien is hidding on the middle hill that krug can't get up with 3 life left.
I was planning on letting the time run out, but then mike threatened to leave me in Austin. So With persuasion and it being the last turn of the round a thought came up. If I can win intiative I might be able to beat krug since I have already have the last turn of the round. I knew my cyprien wasn't going to live the next attack from krug.
Well, moving my cyprien to a perfectly healthy krug on equal ground. I rolled for my chilling touch, and guess what. Without help from sonya I rolled a 20...Now for my attack. I wished for three skulls and I got three skulls. Luckily mike sucks at rolling defense like I do. He roles two blanks and something else. I won by luck and was the most exciting game for me.
Well, I'm 4 and 1 with a positive 500ish points....
I come behind Deliverymanxas who lost to Spider  with me being in 6th place...
Nebraska might not have won the top three but we did get at least 4 out of the top 10 people there.
Matthius at 4th
Delivery at 5th
Me at 6th
Ryan at 8th.
Because of a mix up Mike has an unknown possition but was suppose to be further up in the order then he was.
Nebraska had all winning records...3 4-1's and 2 3-2's.....
Jsut one thing, NE ROCKS!

Ill try to recall all of my action for the evening...
Round 1
Dman (I think...forgot first name)
I think he ran with Krug, Q9, 2 Swogs, and the rest were Arrow Gruts.
The game started off with me taking out Krug with ease, then he started getting revenge with Q9. Nilfheim came out to meet up with Q9, and showed him who the dominant force was. Good match Dman
Full Win
Round 2
Jormi
This game had me sweatin at the end. This was a real good match, with his Stingers hittin my Stingers. Then his Kaemon takin out my Nilf before I could take out Guilty with only one Krav and one Stinger left. Good match Jormi
Full Win
Round 3
TJ (TinyTimmy)
This game was on and done in approx. 11-14 minutes. The only figure that I really was sweating was Cyprien...but he posed no threat once Nilf got ahold of him. Cy took out a few life points and felt the wrath of Ice Shards. We even played again, with similar results...only I lost Nilf. Thanks for the practice round TJ.
Full Win
Round 4
Phloid (once again, I think...I forget names easily sometimes)
This was easily the best game that I have played. This game started with me absolutely stomping his Knights...he turned it around and pulled back into the drivers seat when it was down to Gilbert and his 4th Mass. I was real worried for a little bit. Nilf started pullin through for me and takin out 4th Mass. by the truck load. He took out Nilf and left me with 1 Krav, and 1 Stinger to his 2 4th Mass. My Krav took out one Mass, and then in turn his other Mass. took out the Krav. I hid with my Stinger to bring out the bluecoat, and it worked. I block the following attack, then moved in for the kill. Damn good game, one that I probably will not forget for awhile.
Full Win
Round 5 (Championship Table)
Joe - SP
Before I put in my battle report, I would like to make a request that I never play Joe again.
OK, now for the report...
This game started out lookin halfway good, when he pulled Raelin in range of Nilf to take her out. She blocked a couple of straight attacks...and by then the Glads had gotten to Nilf and gave the Blondes a very good shot at takin him out. After that, Joe took care of the rest of my army with ease...I managed to take out Raelin before Nilf got it, but that was all I was able to do.
Dice were not good for this round. But Good game Joe, Thanks for the lesson
Thanks to Jormi for holding yet another awesome event. Hope that they continue to go well. Good seeing all of my Scapers again, and can now officialy rub it in that NE is #1!!!

Tchops Battle report:
Battles 1-5: i need another army
I had craploads of fun, I actually enjoyed losing because some of the games were pretty close. Maybe they were just close in my own tampered with, caffeine ridden delirious memories. I can't blame it on luck (I had at least average luck), so I have to blame it all on the tarn vikings being unique. Ha. No, I'll try to be humble and blame it on my opponents being well versed at the art of scaping. Sound fair?
Thanks everyone for showing and hosting, it means a lot to all of us to have people that are dedicated to throwing these events. It's always a good time. Rock on.
P.S. Deathstalkers are the greatest unit, like, ever.
And yes, for some godforsaken reason I am still awake. Probably cause it'll take 48 hours for all the free refills of mountain dew and coffee to leave my system. Time to crash........

Yes I will have to admit Nebraska had a good showing. I would like to take a little credit for Matthias top finish as we met in the first round and I'm sure his first round vicorty set the stage for him as well as gave him some momentum on his way to a 4-1 record for the day.
Jormi sorry I forgot to bring the dice towers with me Friday night .... They were sitting on the table when I got home. They both appear to be a smaller version of the tower The View got at the TTO II. I'll let you take your pick when we see each other next.

I hope the tourney pictures turn out - your camra is a little different than mine and I'm not sure about the flash.

I didn't do as well as I hoped. I ended 2-3 with one win from the bye. I walked away with my fifth squad of Zombies, and some great memories. Can't wait for the next event. And I need new dice. Mine hate me.

Hmm here's my battle report:
Seriously, Wait Then Fire!?
Or... every time Jandar kills a kitten, Krug gets angry.
I had been talking to spider for a couple weeks off and on, and basically narrowed my army down to two armies. He liked both of them as well.
3x Gladiatrons 240
2x Blastatrons 360
Raelin 440
Marcu 460
Isamu 470
or
Krug 120
Raelin 200
4x Swog 300
4x Arrow Gruts 460
Isamu 470
In the end, we both decided that the 'trons were probably a little stronger, but I'd been practicing with the Orcs for a week or two on a bunch of different maps, and I really enjoyed playing them. I figured they'd do great with the glyph pool, which had both Astrid and Crevcor, but no Valda. That way, my fast little disengaging army would be tough to beat. I felt good about my chances against Q9 and Krav, and pretty much any army with more than one hero, thanks to Krug and Swogs.
As I tested it a bit more, I actually substituted one squad of Arrow Gruts and Isamu for 2 more Swogs, because I found myself losing them quickly. I was still right at 24 hexes. I filled all the hexes, but I still only had 17 figures. I decided that the only army that I'd have a lot of difficulty against would be a Valiant 4th Mass army, but against anything else, I liked my chances. Because most of the Valiant armies I came up with ended with weird amounts of points left, I didn't worry about that possibility too much.
Sounds great, right?
Final army: "Kitten Hug": Krug, Raelin, 3x Arrow Gruts, 6x Swog Rider
Round 1
Opponent: Phloid (winner of the last MN tourney, and 3rd place at this one)
Army: 2x Knights of Weston, Sir Gilbert, 3x 4th Mass (455 points, 21 hexes)
Map: Swamp Treasure, by Codeman.
We were playing on Swamp Treasure, which is an interesting 2 SotM map by Codeman. It has split starting zones for both players, with 4 hexes for each player near two glyphs sitting between some Hives to the South, with a North high ground to fight over on the top of the map for the bulk of your armies. I put one Swog and 2 Gruts down by the glyphs, and everything else in the north, and Phloid put 4 4th Mass to the south.
I won initiative and placed my Raelin on the highest part of the hill on my side of the map. Then Phloid moved some 4th Mass toward the glyphs, but didn't reach them. Then I had a Swog run down and kill that 4th Mass guy near the glyph, discovering a Dagmar. We both moved up the hills and I also found a Summoning glyph, which I used to pull Gilbert down away from the bulk of his figures, I also moved away from the initiative glyph, which Phloid eventually took, but continued to roll higher than me naturally for the remainder of the game.
The game went back and forth for a long while. I would generally not overcommit my Swogs, always keeping them and the Gruts within Raelin's Aura, and I'd always take a 3 die shot with height and swog support, usually at 4th mass to thin their ranks. It was slow going offensively for me, and for Phloid as well. Raelin was rolling defense like a champ, and so were the 5 D arrow Gruts and 6 D swogs (thanks to height, etc...)
He would periodically take 1 or 2 turns with his Knights in a round, and eventually Sir Gilbert managed to make his long journey back to where the action is. Sir Gilbert led the charge against my Raelin position, and I started moving Krug up to meet them, but it was too late. Raelin and the Swog and Arrow Gruts up there fell, and then Krug started dispensing some beatdowns. With some good defense rolls, he stuck around for awhile, and eventually managed to kill Sir Gilbert and a 2 or 3 Knights. My remaing 3-4 Arrow Gruts were firing from lower ground, but often with 2-3 Swogs supporting them. The 5 defense of the Knights was still tough to crack even with 3 or 4 attack dice, and they were only killing one about once every other turn- eventually, all the Knights were removed from my hill, and I actually managed to take it back.
With some good attack rolls, I pushed all of his 4th Mass off the hill, and played aggressively with my remaining Swog Riders. Thanks to Sir Gilbert's earlier Jandar's Dispatch rolls, a bunch of 4th mass were now in Wait then Fire range, and I lost the last battlefield position that I had up there. I feebly attempted to put one Swog Rider and 2 Arrow Gruts on the high spot on my side again, but they fell too.
At the end, Phloid had 5 4th Mass, and either 2 or 3 Knights left. It felt a bit closer than the final score suggested... to me at least.
Result: Loss, -210 PD
Cumulative: 1 (0-1, -210)
Well, on the plus side, with a first round loss, I should face a much worse opponent, with a more favorable army composition for me in the second round. Right?
Round 2
Opponent: gibberish 47, (3rd place at the TTO III, and 3-2 on the day)
Army: 2x Knights of Weston, Sir Gilbert, 3x 4th Mass (455 points, 21 hexes)
Map: Marr Highway
Great. Gibberish was the best person that I had played at the Tree Town Open, and he played essentially the same army this time, only he had one more squad of 4th Mass there. Apparently he had a really bad luck game of dice against Tiny Timmy's Cyprien. I knew how he'd play the army. He'd lead with the Knights, use Gilbert to keep funneling people up and onto the road. Then he'd throw the Knights in my face and not actually attack with them all that much while the 4th Mass killed me. And on Marr Highway, I'd have nowhere to run.
We both advanced our forces slowly, and together. I was the first one to get a glyph, and it was a pit trap. My swog was stuck, and even though he was protected by Raelin's aura, he fell quickly to some muskets. Gibberish then took his glyph, which turned out to be Astrid. The 3-long ruin was also on that side, which meant that I only had one route to get to the Astrid glyph, and that required getting Wait then Fired at from height.
This game actually ended up being kind of close thanks to some bad defense rolls on gib's part. My wily little gruts kept picking off Knights and Mass. Eventually he made it to Raelin, and put three wounds on her. Only one Knight was adjacent though, and I actually had my next turn on her. I risked the two passing swipes to try to surprise him, get him off the attack glyph, and buy myself some time. It worked, but she got shot the next turn, and the turn after that he got the glyph back, still protected pretty well.
I sent Krug up, and the Knights actually got 4 wounds on him on the first turn they attacked him... and with only two Gilbert-boosted ones at that. Krug and the Arrow Gruts finished off those knights, as well as Sir Gilbert, and I made a last few efforts to kill the 4th mass around his glyph. He then advanced a little closer to all of my guys just near the big tree on my side, and finished off my remaining swogs and gruts.
Again, Gibberish had 2-3 Knights, and 5 4th Mass left.
Result: Loss, -210 PD
Cumulative: 2, (0-2, -420PD)
Round 3
Player: Kyle, a relatively new guy who I don't think is on HSers.com
Army: Major Q10, Nakita Agents, Laglor, 1x Gorillinators (470 points, 9 hexes)
Map: Desolate Pools by Jormi
This map is kind of like Forsaken Waters, except it is more symmetric and the big hill in the middle is actually the same height as the two hills on the side. I was actually somewhat worried about Kyle's army because I didn't like the idea of unboosted gruts facing off against Gorillas, so I focused on wounding them first. I also put raelin on the big central hill and started moving some gruts and swogs up there.
His Nakitas were placed pretty well for smoke powder to protect everything else though, so I charged the one next to Laglor and Q10 with a swog, killing it after a couple attacks. He was focusing on Raelin because she was protecting all the Swogs and gruts on the main hill. She fell just around the time that Krug got there. He beat them down pretty handily, killing first the Nakita, then Q10, then Laglor.
I lost one arrow grut figure, one swog, and Raelin. Krug did the vast majority of the killing.
Result: Win, +365
Cumulative: 5 (1-2), -55 PD
Round 4
Player: Supergeek
Army: 2x Knights of Weston, Sir Gilbert, 3x 4th Mass (455 points, 21 hexes)
Map: Searing Pass by Hasbro
A bit annoyed that I was playing this army again, I decided to relax and eat a ton of delicious gyros and feta cheese pizza. Yum. Go Minnesota.
If there was a good map for me to face this army, this was it. I moved Raelin to height, and sent a Swog and my first three Arrow Gruts up there. They rocked the house for quite a long time. Losing maybe one or two of their number, and a wound or two on Raelin, but killing about 7 4th Mass and 2 Knights. All the height, Raelin's aura, and Swog bonuses made them quite effective. I was going to win!
But I got aggressive and careless. On the third turn of the third round, there was no place that I could get really good attacks on them and stay in Raelin's aura without standing on lava, so I moved forward, and left the Aura without realizing it. I failed all of my attack that turn too. Then supergeek's Knights charged up the hill and killed all of the Gruts and Swogs that were there, and all of my stuff was way back in my starting zone. I really should have moved more up sooner.
Then he swarmed and killed Raelin. I started losing my gruts now that they didn't have the same defense. I was down to 3 Swogs, one Arrow Grut, and a fully healed Krug against a handful of Knights and Mass and Gilbert. It was treacherous terrain for Krug, but I had to move him up.
Krug eventually finished off Gilbert and a couple more Knights, but died to some WtF's from height. Then it was 2 Swogs, 1 Arrow Grut, and about 3 each of Mass and Knights. With some timely defense rolls and nasty paws of doom, I managed to get it really close, but still lost. About a dozen people were watching as it ended.
Supergeek had 1 Knight and 1 4th Mass guy left at the end of the game. I had been splitting them up to make his order marker decisions harder, and give me the opportunity to make him lose at least one turn the next round. I let this one get away from me, but he did just the right thing at the right time to turn it around.
Result: Loss, -140 PD
Cumulative: 6, (1-3, -195PD)
Round 5
Player: I forgot his name. Sorry man!
Army: Deathwalker 9000, Syvarris, Raelin, Major Q10 (470, 5 hexes)
Map: Swamp Treasure
Ranged heroes and Raelin. I felt pretty good about it, but underestimated Syvarris' deadliness with Raelin when he's on height, as well as DW9K's explosion attack. On one blast, he took out 3 Gruts, one swog, and the last 2 wounds on Raelin. It was brutal. He didn't even go for the glyphs, which turned out pretty well for him, because they were both Brandar (dud).
Then Krug decided to set things straight. He finished off the pansy elf, who already had 2 wounds worth of grut's arrows filthying his platinum-blond locks. He then jumped down and cut Raelin in half in two brutal swings, while the Major gave him a few ROCKET ATTACKS TO THE FACE.
On two attacks, Krug then got 3 wounds on Major Q10, and then got hit again, with only two very angry wounds left on himself. My opponent had one order marker on Major Q10, and one on Deathwalker. Knowing that I could survive one passing swipe, and that DW9K might just eliminate my remaining forces with explosions, I ran towards him. The swipe failed. But so did my two attacks of 8 against 10 (thanks to height.) I rolled 4 skulls to his 4 shields on the first attack, and only one skull to his one shield on the second attack! (I had 7 shields on that one, no blanks.)
My last Arrow grut took one crazy shot down at Q10, rolling 2 skulls, and finishing him off. His 3rd turn was on Q10, so he forfeit his turn.
He rolled a 13 for initiative, and I a 14. Krug then killed DW9K. I dodged a bullet there. The point differential really didn't tell the story on this one, with just 4 Swogs, 3 Arrow Gruts, and Krug left standing.
Result: Win, +260
Cumulative: 9, (2-3, +55)
So yeah, I had a good time, but I'd still kind of like to forget this tournament, even though I just wrote up something lengthy about it. My 4th Mass games were all really intense and fun, and so was that last Master set game, but I sure would have liked to do better.

I'd like to say "thanks" as well to Jormi for putting on another great event. Also, George's Pizza has been very kind in letting us use their place to throw down some dice. They have a good specialty pizza as well. Oh, and thanks to Codeman for bringing a good chunk of maps as well as the sponsors for making the prize pool truly remarkable. I had lots of fun meeting up with people, and the Scaping was fun as always.
As for the battles, I decided to go with a Gladiatron/Blastatron army backed by Raelin. I haven't had much experience with the Trons, but I knew they were a tough force. I got in a few games with Jexik, K-Boom, and Clarissimus the night before, and the robots performed much better than I expected. I felt pretty confident with the army, but I was worried about facing 4th Mass armies, especially valiant 4th Mass armies. I was thinking about going to orc archers again, but I ended up choosing this army:
3X Gladiatrons 240
2X Blastatrons 360
Raelin (ROTV) 440
Marcu 460
Isamu 470
If there happened to be a difficult to reach glyph, I was planning on activating Marcu (clamped by Gladiatrons backed by Raelin in case he turns on me) to go get it. It turns out that I never found this to be helpful, and I never used either of my filler units. They were nice insurance, however. Anyway, the games...
Game One- Mike from Nebraska on Marr Highway (Cyprien, Krug, Mimring, Arrow Gruts, Isamu)
I felt pretty good going into this game, as Trons are the best way to handle Cyprien, and they also like large heroes in general. Plus, Marr Highway would ensure that I could maneuver my Glads and engage his units pretty well. The game started with Mike advancing his Gruts and Mimring with me advancing my Trons and Raelin. On the third turn, I believe Mike was able to fireline my Raelin for a wound. On the next set of markers, Mike was fortunate enough to find the summoning glyph. He summoned Raelin and started to work on her. A few shots from gruts with height advantage and a five attack from Mimring only did 2 wounds, however, and the Trons were in place in bring the fight to her to save the kyrie warrior. Once I had a few Trons adjacent to Mimring, he fell rather quickly. Cyprien was coming next, but I blocked off the spaces around Raelin so the vampire couldn't try to kill her. There really isn't much Cyprien could do here, and a swarm of Glads followed by Blast fire took him down. Krug was next, but I didn't concentrate fire on him until I had a good number of robots near him and was able to take him out without him having any huge attacks. This was a very good matchup for me, and I think I lost one Blastatron and had 3 wounds on Raelin by the end.
FW +470
Game Two- David from Team Nowhere on Swamp Treasure (3X Arrow Gruts, 3X Swog Rider, Mimring, Krug)
David was fresh off a flawless victory, and so I knew he must be good. Fortunately for me, I once again had a favorable matchup. I sent some Glads to the glyphs and they were both attack plus one! Needless to say, this game was tough for David as there really wasn't much he could do when Blastatrons are firing 3 attack dice by default. Mimring was able to do some damage early on, but my casualties were minimal, and I ended the game once again with a full army. FW +470
Game Three- KaBoomBoomBoom on Searing Pass (Major Q9, 3X 4th Mass, 3X Deathreavers)
I've played Kyle in a few practice games as well as at the last TTO, and he always comes with a good army and good strategy. The map was also in his favor as my Glads would have trouble engaging his figures. Despite this, I hoped for a little bit of luck that might help me win. The game started with my advancing Trons and Raelin, and Kyle advanced his Mass and Q9. The major was able to kill Raelin in a short amount of time. I debated my next move as I could either engage Q9 with 2 Gladiatrons or engage Q9 with one Gladiatron and take the glyph with the other. Knowing I needed a little bit of luck, I chose to take the glyph hoping for an attack bonus. Instead, it was the summoning glyph...which was much better in the current situation. Taking Q9 down to the water, I was now able to have 3 Glads adjacent to the major and have height advantage with all my Blasts. Due to the fact that Kyle knew I could take out Q9 fairly quickly, he started putting markers on his Mass instead, and I responded by firing at Mass instead of going for the killing blow on Q9. Back and forth firing ensued, and Kyle occasionally had Q9 take the first order marker to get rid of pesky Glads around him. Though I didn't often have Glads adjacent to his Mass, I usually had height advantage, and the Blasts won the fight against the Mass and killed Q9 when convenient. The rest of the game consisted of rats trying to do damage, and I believe they killed one figure in the chaos. Kyle killed Raelin, 7 Gladiatrons, and 3 Blastatrons, so I was lucky to have just one extra Glad and Blast for point's sake. It could very easily have been +170 instead of the +310 victory. Now that I think about it, I incorrectly stated the game as +250 instead of +310, but it's no big deal. Either way, Kyle is a Scape player to be feared, and his only tournament losses in three events has been to the eventual winner. FW +310
Game Four- Matthias on Swamp Treasure (3X Knights, Alastair, Sir Gilbert, Eldgrim (the short viking :) ), Isamu)
Matthias entered this game 3-0 using an all-melee army. I was initially surprised that an all-melee army could do that, but Matthias has experience with the Knights like no other. The game started with Matthias sending out sending out Isamu to try and assassinate Raelin while taking the glyphs and me advancing Raelin and the Trons. One of the glyphs was attack +1, and Matthias held it for most of the game. His assassination attempt didn't fare too well, but he did get a wound or two on the Kyrie before dying. I don't think Matthias really cared about Isamu's death anyway, and now he had an all-honorable army to boot. I had a really good setup with a wall of Glads backed by Raelin, and there wasn't much Matthias could do except for hope that some of his attacks could bust through the six defense Glads. Occasionally he was able to do so, but more Glads were always ready to step up. He did have quite a few large attacks because of Gilbert's bonus and the glyph, but his rolls weren't very stellar, and I had plenty of Glads to weather the storm. Alastair made a valiant charge at the end, but a swarm of Glads held him in place and a few high attacks were able to take down him and Gilby. Matthias killed 5 Glads and a Blast by the end and inflicted a couple wounds on Raelin. FW +390
Game Five- deliverymanxas on Desolate Pools (Nilfheim, Krav Maga, 3X Stingers)
Dave just came off what might have been the closest game I've ever seen. His victory against Phloid was a real nailbiter that could have gone either way. Toward the end, Dave made this awesome move where he sent his last Stinger into the water where he would be blocked by terrain and couldn't be shot. He waited for the next initiative to make his move on the last Mass of Phloid's. Surviving a 2 skull attack, Dave's Stinger popped out of the water onto height and finished the last Mass. I was very impressed by this maneuver, and I was worried our game might be this close after I saw the end of his last match. In addition to that, all of Dave's units were extremely offensive units that can dish out the pain. Our game started with me advancing Raelin to the middle and Dave sending out Nilfheim. Nilf took to the task of killing Raelin, but the kyrie survived lots of 6 dice attacks and was reinforced by Glads. Also, I had managed to secure an attack glyph and kill a Krav in the process. Needless to say, Nilfheim didn't last too long from the huge attacks of the Blasts. His Stingers had trouble mustering up even 1 shield, and they didn't fare too well either. By the end of the battle, I had lost Raelin and a couple of Gladiatrons. Dave's dice (especially his defense dice) have never done well against me, but I'm sure we'll have another rematch sometime in the future. FW +390
So, I ended up being 5-0 (+2030) and took 1st place. Previous to this event, I only had 1 SOTM set, so I got a SOTM (from Team Nowhere...thank you!) for 1st as well as a squad of Heavy Gruts and a Gift Certificate from George's Pizza. Thanks again to the sponsors, George's, and everyone else who made the trek to Austin for this event. Above all else, thanks to Jormi for putting this event on and continually raising the bar in how good Heroscape tourneys can be run. Being in the Midwest is truly one of the best places to be a Scaper. Thanks, Jormi!

I am glad 4th place did so well with those knights. Seems the Stingers, Mass, Glads, Blasts, Q-9 and Krav pretty much rule the tourneys :?

Had a lot of fun but came in just shy of zero points for the day, with a 2-3 record. I would have been +10 except I lost one final Omnicron Sniper in the very last round of my last game which dropped me 100 points!
tchop, it was nice to meet you but sorry your army/dice did so poorly in those first two matches we played (one for real, one for fun)... I only placed two spots above you, so my Sniper army didn't do nearly as well as I'd hoped!
My son had a lot of fun as well, and I'm glad he was able to pull off 2 wins as well. Makes him feel good that he played just about as good as his dad did. ;)
Thanks again, Michael and Dale! Great event. :)

Hey, Supergeek, I'm surprised you weren't in any of yours. Don't forget, the Osage Get-Together is on April 5th. Be there, or be Hexagonal.

Not to worry Darkwind .... I filled in for you  other than I made a few of the people work for their win ( well maybe not too many as I ended up with a -(-695) point differential  .
A year ago I was 4-0 going into the championship round only to lose in a close but fun game to Jormi. Leaving me at 4-1 for the day .... a year later I go 1-4

Codeman, you're a consistently good competitor. I'm sure your results at this fun event were more of a fluke than anything.

Thank you .... not sure what is going on but two weeks earlier I had a couple tune-up games at Rehlers house in Arizona and thanks to Max & Lonewolf I left the state 0-2 and a year ago I was out there and went 1-3  I think I need to send the Orc out earlier to get acclimated to their nice weather. I have no excuse for the Austin tourney... just looking forward to the next :D .

As always, Codeman, the maps have an impact on the battle. I know you and I played on Swamp Treasure at the end, and your Mimring was able to engage and damage/destroy several of my figs, but your grut archers really had nowhere to run. It was tough for them to ever claim high ground, and I was able to take them out with my Omnicron Snipers pretty consistently. In fact, since I know you like to load up your grut archers with order markers every round (and who wouldn't, with their beast bonding), I deliberately bypassed attacking other figs just to wipe them out. And poor Krug never even got to the battle with a squad of snipers raining down on him from high ground!
For my army (Snipers plus Raelin and Taelord), I did really good on Desolate Pools but had only 1 battle (plus an unofficial battle) on that map. It's built for ranged units who can claim high ground and hold it, and it takes most melee units too many turns to do anything to counter them. But Swamp Treasure and Marr Highway were very nasty to me in most of my games, as I could not get my Snipers to high ground that they could easily hold. I did OK on Searing Pass, except for stupidly putting Raelin in position for my opponent to 4th Mass "wait and fire" in the first round. Pretty much cost me the game, although I bled my opponent of a bunch of 4th Mass before he finally got to me. :D

Maybe March 15th should be renamed "Bad Luck Day for Orcs." I also had a rough time with my little blue guys, but I like to think that it was because I faced some stiff competition. And those darn Knights. They seemed to almost hurt more than the 4th Mass in those combined armies I faced.
I really liked the map variety, which I felt helped some of the melee armies have a fighting chance. That's a good thing- maps can have a large impact on which armies are viable. I might have liked to see a snow map though, again for variety's sake.

I've never played on show with glaciers. Sounds like it would be fun. Yeah, I can't wait till September for the Rochester Tourney, or the TTO. Fun fun.

Well you can expect 4 different type maps at the TTO again - same as last year:
one will be Tundra + MS1
one will be Lava + MS1
one will be RTFF + MS1
one will be a MS2 + ?

Despite some of us who were concerned about the Swamp Map at the last TTO, I'd have to say that the other 3 maps at TTO 3 were FANTASTIC...some of the most enjoyable maps I have EVER played on. They were just that good.

I hope I get a chance to play on all 4. At this tourney, I didn't get to play on Marr Highway. I was a little disappointed.

There is no guarantee but playing 6 rounds using 4 maps will most likely have you playing on all of them once and most twice. Jormi normally does a pretty good job of map assignments,

Yeah, I'm pretty glad I got to play Desolate Pools a second time. I knew the map well that time around. April 5th is coming up fast, so don't forget to sign up for the Get-Together. We have limited space.

Thanks to Georges and the staff ... I will miss this venue  They have been GREAT, as well as a wounderful place to play in.
Too bad Georges has to come down, as I said before it was a great venue to hod a HS tournament, my favorite by far.
Thanks to Jormi for finding this great/perfect venue to begin with. I am sure he will have a hard time finding one that matchs up to Georges for his 2009 Austin Tourney.... I wish you luck, but you set the bar high with this one.

I agree...Ive began looking for a place to host the Nebraska Skirmish. Im not knockin the church basement...but would like to find somewhere that we would be able to have a similar setup. We play and they make our dinner...
Very nice work finding George's Pizza Jormi, tis definately a shame that they have to come down. That was probably the best place to house a tourney for what we came with.
Thanks again to George's, and Jormi. Looking forward to the TTO, NS, and next years Austin Tourney.
