I was reading another thread and HeH mentioned periscopes for use in tight situations in which you can not easily maneuver a laser pointer or such, so i thought i would compile a list of useful items for HS:

Useful item number 1: A laser pointer. These work wonders for getting LOS. You put it as close to the attacking figuers sight-spot (the green dot on the army card) and point at the figure you want to attack. If you can hit any prt of the hitzone (the red part on the army card), then LOS is clear and the attack proceeds.

useful Item number 2: I do not know what it is called, so i will call it "The Claw." This device can be used to get figures such as syvarris out of over hanges or tunnels and such with out knocking it over. Here are pics:

useful item number 3: A miniature periscope. Also useful for determining LOS. You won't alway be able to just stick you head behind the figures; you next resort should be a laser pointer (see useful item number 1). Sometimes, even that eill be a challenge. HeH has some miniature periscopes, that can be used for tight spaces one's hands cannot maneuver through. Place the out-end next to figures head, and look through the other end. Maneuver until you determine (or not) LOS on the targeted figure.

Useful item number 4: Dice Towers. These are used to ensure a good roll of all sorts of dice. They are shaped like an "L" with a small opening at the top, leading to a series of angled shelves for the di(c)e to roll/bounce off of, mixing them up, which, leads to a return-tray where the ersults of the roll are shown. InfinityMax has some excellent wooden ones, and PoF and I sell some transparent ones.

Useful item number 5: Binder Clips. These are excellent for creating small land bridges. Clip the terrain ieces at the joints underneath the terrain and the will float there as if supported by terrain "pillars."

Useful item number 6: Top loaders. They are basically cd cases, except you put your cards in them. They are a cheaper version of laminate and still keep the cards protected form typical wear and tear and the occasional spill, etc.

Useful item number 7: Zip-lock Bag(gie)s. Put small things such as dice, wound markers, and order markers in plastic baggies to help maintain organization.

I want to get a laser pointer now. The simplest solution is usually the best! *Ingenious!*

hey, i didn't think of it. I forget who did, but they truly are genius. I first read it at .NET soon before it died, so it had to have been one of the older members.

Maybe it was me then ;)

And your right Jandar, sometimes the most simple things are the most genius! Its weird.

Take Heroscape itself. Simple, but the best. :D

K/H on my own personal list, I would add top loaders for card protection. They're not used so much for doing anything except protecting the cards from the occasional spill or grubby fingers.

the claw yer talking about there is part of a small comp tech's kit.
it's used for getting screws, etc, etc outta small corners/places and for aligning screws into holes in hard to reach places.

ye can buy them for a buck or so or the small kits that usually have them run about 5-10 bucks.

This would be great info to put in the Enhancements (http://www.heroscape.org/wiki/index.php?title=Category:Enhancements) section of the wiki.

How would one go about getting one of those devices?

I made one out of some cardboard and tape. It's not the best, but it works. I wouldn't mind having a much better one, but I'm set for the time being. I think there are some plans that Imax made in the download section (I downloaded from HQ, so I don't know for sure if they're here).

I forgot to add to the list: Ziplock bags. The freezer bags are good for terrain. I use the sandwich size ones to keep some wound markers, order markers and a d20 for each player. I use a different color die for each bag, so we could conceivably drop all of them in the dice tower at once for initiative rolls. I still need to paint the color of the d20 on the symbol side of the order markers.

This may not be what your looking for, but I have just dicovered that the tops of drinking water bottles work great for simple pillars, Keep the see through plastic tip protector on, and glue 2 together , glue the tops together( the plastic see through part are flat and glue easily). I have even painted a couple of the white tops, not the see through plastic tip/top protector ( I like the look of the see through part ), and they even look better.
But they make a great 7 level column for really cheap, and I like the looks of it. Sorry not a computer guy, or I would post pictures.

I have also been using just one as a base and putting a glass paper wieght on top of it as a LOS blocker, and as a source of magic that radiates into the pools that surround it.

Or, as I mentioned on another thread, dental mirrors (http://www.widgetsupply.com/page/WS/CTGY/dental-mirror) -- less storage space required than a miniature periscope.
