While I think G.I.Joe (knowin' is 1/2 the Battle folks!), is coming down the pike. I went with Transformers.

I know for a fact, there are BIG expectations for this franchise.

While I'm okay with Marvel/G.I.Joe/Transformers. I will HATE the SW expansions.

What's more, I found out about HeroScape looking for terrain for SW mini's.

Lucas destroyed everything he built. And I have no intention of giving him 1 single penny from here on out.

Unless the terrain is cool.

heh. i know what you mean Joah. when it comes to SW, it's a real lovehate thing for me also. but i could really care less about Marvel, GIJoe or Transformers. the only licensing/co-branding with HS i would give a second look at would be SW.

plus my boys would be more interested in SW stuff for HS, not Marvel.

Why is there no "all of the above" option?

For as long as Hasbro keeps churning out different Heroscape editions - whether as licensed properties or it's own creations - then the game has a future on the store shelves.

We don't *have* to buy each edition, or use them as anything other than terrain in "classic" Heroscape if we do succumb. We're not the target audience for most of the likely stuff, anyway.

However, the corporate buyers (for WalMart, TRU etc) who can decide a product's fate like to see shiny new stuff on their shelves (ideally with big name licenses attached), or they like to see products with a proven track record in a package that screams brand recognition (which explains most of Hasbro's lineup, year after year, of stuff like Operation, Game Of Life, Clue(do) etc - they're popular largely becauise they're well-known; they are not great games by any stretch of the imagination). Let's face it, Heroscape hasn't made it into that second category yet, and without a push from a whole range of licensed product, probably never will.

InfinityMax
July 22nd, 2006, 04:24 AM
Star Wars would likely give us some really cool terrain. I continue to not give a crap about licensed figures, but as long as a license has the possibility of cool new terrain, I'm all for it. Star Wars might supply us with some very interesting buildings. Same with GI Joe.

I wouldn't like any other game besides the "classic" scape, but if it makes more money for them to keep pumping out expansions then I'm for it. If I had to pick I think Star Wars would be popular. Plus it could add a Sci Fi like battleground, that would be perfect for Soulborgs.

I have to guess Transformers...that movie next year is like a huge black hole sucking in a lot of marketing power.

Star Wars...while it would be cool (in my book), I don't know if Hasbro would put out a product that goes directly toe to toe with the Star Wars Minis game it already has (via WotC). It seems to me, if they were going to do that, they would have already last year when the last movie came out.

If possible, Star Wars. That will fly off the shelves, and, as we have seen through various customs, actually lends itself quite well to the heroscape format (heroes, squads of stormtroopers, strong melee attacks vs. weaker ranged attacks, large monsters, etc).

What are the "hooks" that would be the draw for each of the mentioned licenses?

GI Joe: Maybe some more urban terrain, and buildings. Might have vehicles and equipment? The figs would go pretty seamlessly with some of the HS units.

Star Wars: Alien terrain, buildings, plants and people/critters.

LOTR: Not much as far as terrain (unless we're talking Moria), but the place this one would shine is the statues/LOS obstacles and the units.

Transformers: Cybertron terrain (metalscape anyone?). The units would have to be an incompatible scale, or moving toward 3 and 4 hex bases.

Others mentioned here and elsewhere

TMNT: Sewer terrain.

Ponyscape: Nothing here to see.

Carebearscape: Cloud terrain, but really nothing here to see.

Dorascape: Nothing here to see.

Smurfscape: Giant mushrooms, but non-halucinagenic.

So the obvious answer is Dorascape, because by the time it comes out the 8-12 year olds will have nostalgic feelings of the annoying little girl.

In all seriousness, I'm all for Star Wars. I think it has the best hook, followed by GI Joe. LOTR could be good, but it depends on the obstacles and maybe the units (read: Balrog). I don't look forward to trying to find Star Warscape for all the dumb collectors. I mean, really, how much are they going to get when they try to sell the stuff that everyone buys 10 of and never opens in 15 years? One word that crowd needs to learn: scarcity.

Alot of the antimarvel people seem to like the idea of picking a set up just for the modern looking ruins.
If they're going to have alot of different 'scapes', how about a generic pack of STUFF to put on the board that has seperate rules for the seperate scapes?

My favorite part of Dora episodes (yes, I've watched them over breakfast a few times) is at the end when she asks the camera "What was YOUR favorite part?" and then stops and stares for a few seconds while the children watching at home are supposed to answer. If you are watching that alone, and don't answer, you actually feel weird. Try it and see. It's as if the TV is messing with you.

Star Wars HS would be great, but I don't see it happening (at least anytime soon). Hasbro owns WOTC which already does a SW minis game. Maybe after that games dies, but it would be a long while before we get SW HS.

I would also like to see LOTR HS, but again I don't see it happening. Many of the potential LOTR units would be too much like CHS units (elves, orcs, etc.).

I hope you are right. I would love it.

The target market would be a little different. The WOTC SW game is more targeted at the teen and adult audience, where the HS SW game would be target to HS's typical audience (8-12 yo). But I still think there would be too much overlap between the two games. I know I would lose a lot of interest in the WOTC minis if SW HS came out.

I would be fine with SW like terrain. If they continue to make "Master Sets", with new and cool terrain, I'll probably continue to buy it.

I was at a game store that hosts a SW thing every week, just last Saturday. It was packed. 90% kids, 10% adults.

SW Heroscape would bring many more players to the game.
But I'll still find it hard to find a game I think.

When I realized I only really liked two of the six movies, I gave up for good.

Okay, as much as I love Star Wars, I have to say that I don't see a ton of variety in the special powers area. Characters in SW tend to have Jedi powers, or else shoot blasters. And while I would welcome the opportunity to slaughter a massive Ewok/Gungan army, who the hell would ever draft it against me?

On the other hand, classic Star Trek is chock-full of great stuff that would have freaky special powers or just be fun to play:

Salt Vampire
Klingon squads
Red Shirt squads
Boulder-throwing giants from "Galileo Seven"
Black/White and White/Black guys from "Let This Be Your Last Battlefield"
Regular Mr. Spock
Amok-Time Mr. Spock with Vulcan battleaxe
Regular Capt. Kirk (with phaser)
Torn-shirt Capt. Kirk (for melee combat)
Gangsters from "A Piece of the Action"
Roman Gladiators
Roman guards with submachineguns
The Empath
Horta

Plus, it would be really easy to make terrain that looked just as realistic as the sets from the show.

I wish for Harry PotterScape. Hasbro already has a licence and with the new book comming out it would be a great tie in. And think of all the fancifull creatures you could bring in. Four houses battling each other, Deatheaters Vs. The Order. I think a mixture of original concepts as well. I mean it would be like the Dresden Files on Hexes.

But what I truly pine for in my soul of souls is ShadowScape. A cyberpunk scape with internet special terrain for Hacking, and City scapes for missions. :( It will never be though.

Hasbro owns WOTC. WOTC owns Star Wars Minis. Star Wars Minis makes a lot of money. This may affect their desire to make Star Wars Heroscape. I might like to see it.

However...I'm a big comics fan too. But the idea of seeing Marvel Heroscape bothers me somewhat. This is an original game with an original storyline. I hate to pervert it by drawing in other media.

I mean think about it. Spiderman won't work for Jandar...Apocalypse won't be for Utgar. It's just not the same as good old Heroscape.

What I would like to see is more Earth heroes from history...sort of a borrowing from Anachronism. Ghengis Kahn, Napoleon, Custer...would be neat.

MK MarvelScape is it's own game...you can use the terrain from both games together as well as incorporate the characters into each game...but unlike the HS figures the marvel ones are not affiliated with the 5 generals

I realize that. I just fail to see the point. If it ain't broke...

Though there have been a lot of customs on this site and being sold on ebay for superheroes. Maybe someone was listening.
