I just wanted to resurrect this thread on the new site to feature cool and interesting figures from other games that could be used us as-is or customized for use in HS.

Add your photos of plastic pre-painted figures, unpainted metal figures, toys that are in scale or any other figures of interest.

Here are some I found:

http://a248.e.akamai.net/f/248/5462/2h/gamingetc.safeshopper.com/images/bb0olm6k.jpg

DC Collateral Damage: Black Mask 010, 011 or 012. Makes for one hell of a creepy Vydar agent.

http://a248.e.akamai.net/f/248/5462/2h/gamingetc.safeshopper.com/images/bb0lhx5g.jpg

DC Collateral Damage: Crimson Avenger 087.
I was more interested in modding this figure, but a blind agent for Vydar? That is just too classic to pass up.

http://a248.e.akamai.net/f/248/5462/2h/gamingetc.safeshopper.com/images/br0ip8f2.jpg

Mage Knight Nexus 104 Pyre Spirit. I don't know if this figure looks this good when you have it in hand, but the photo is awesome. This one is a must for the HS Lava fields.

http://a248.e.akamai.net/f/248/5462/2h/gamingetc.safeshopper.com/images/br0ip4q3.jpg

Mage Knight Nexus 072 Centaur Champion. Armored and mean looking; this would be a great Jandar or Ullar unit.

http://a248.e.akamai.net/f/248/5462/2h/gamingetc.safeshopper.com/images/bb0myzgd.jpg

DC Collateral Damage: Green Flame 025, 026 or 027. How about some kind of Ullar tree spirit type of creature? It looks a bit like a Dryad or something.

http://a248.e.akamai.net/f/248/5462/2h/gamingetc.safeshopper.com/images/bp0rs3od.jpg
This is an older Mage Knight figure. A Scale Servant from the Dragon's Gate set 040, 041 or 042. I love the way he is holding the blade and there have been no bipedal serpent men for HS, so he fills a niche. He seems very Robert E. Howard inspired to me for some reason. I like it.

http://www.wizkidsgames.com/horrorclix/images/figs/hc_02.jpg

Horror Clix, of course. I am almost sure some of the best figures to customize for HS are going to come out of this new game. I hate to say it, but I am more excited about seeing the figures that are coming out for this set than the HS figures. Sneak previews have been hard to find, but there may be new pics soon.

For those of you that were fans of Starship Troopers before it was a movie and TV show!

These are the troopers that look like those described in the novel. They even have the racks with the shoulder mounted nukes!

Just one of these guys would be devastating on the HS battlefield, but I do like that Mongoose finally came through and included something closer to what was described in the novel, as they had promised when the ST game was announced.

They even have a second variant of the suits:

http://theminiaturespage.com/news/pics/2006/apr/788418a.jpg

This one was just announced today:

http://www.copplestonecastings.co.uk/images/WH1a.jpg

Copplestone Castings Werewolf Hunter (WH1).

Mark Copplestone is one of my favorite sculptors/designers. I'm glad I did not pick up any of the other Selene figures out there yet. This is the one I'm getting. :D

Lilnewbie, I know you are watching and can't resist posting. :P

Thanks for kicking of this thread:

Here is a new mini from the upcoming Heroclix Sinister line. M.A.C.H. 1, 3 and 4 (#'s 40, 41 and 42, resp.):

http://www.wizkidsgames.com/images/figures/Rotating/HMSN/HMSN_041.jpg

Can you say Vydar Shock Troops? I knew you could. :D

Next up is a figure from the Starship Troopers line:

I enjoyed the episode with the CHAS unit in the ST CGI series. The model is pretty cool too!

That Werewolf Hunter from Copplestone is awesome....putting that one down as a must buy. Thanks for posting that one.

I bought a group of the Black Mask figure after seeing this thread on ST.com. Oh, the green flame thing too! Both are comic characters I've never seen. Black Mask looks like a charcoal version of Red Skull. :D

I don't like the extra 'stuff' these heroclix figures come with: stairs, walls, ect. but they sure are cool nonetheless.

Nope, it is white metal. You have to put in the work to make it look that good.

There is still a chance Horrorclix may get the license or make a close looking generic pre-painted figure.

I believe that is a female judging by the bumps on her chest and the skinny waist. However, that is a great figure and I will get that one if I see it.

A little modding and a head swap and that looks like my Neo...

However, that is a great figure and I will get that one if I see it. The Copplestone Werewolf hunter is good also.

The original photo I had was too small to tell (and I am not familiar with the character), but this photo definitely shows a female, although quite an ugly one. :)

It would make for a great Blade or Crow mod also. The pose is dynamic.

Since eM4 miniatures have been mentioned, here are some more of their figures. They have been making pre-painted miniature sets for a few years and the quality is quite good. Here is an assortment of their figures:

The same company that makes the gladiators EOS posted makes some crossbowmen that I really dig. I'll have to find a link. If I can find them locally I'll have to buy them, as I'm not going to order from the other side of the pond in the near future. What's the name of the company, something like E4?

EDIT: That's the one Annerios. It is on that site that I saw the crossbowmen.

Apparently a full set poster for showing all HorrorClix figures has reached some retailers (or is available from distributors). If anyone has a photo of the poster, please post it.

Steenbock over on the Wizkids Horrorclix forum was nice enough to list the figures and provide descriptions:

You can probably make heroes and squads for several of the factions from this set. I think it may be predominately Utgar, but there are some hunters here that could be Jandar units. I also make a lot of Vydar units for modern style figures, so I imagine there will be many of those.

I've developed a dislike for the purchase format of Heroclix. I don't play the game and don't mind blind purchases for things like Star Wars where you'd want armies of Storm Troopers and the like, as opposed to armies of REVs that only exist as one person in the comics.

That having been said, I'll probably be buying a lot of this next set. Sinister has some of the coolest looking minis I've seen from this line. They look to be very versatile and adaptable to other game systems (HS!).

Yeah, so I'm just gonna hafta...

Wait, what? Nick Fury? I grant you that I'm a little behind here, not having read a comic in quite some time, but can anyone explain how Nick Fury turned bald? And more importantly, BLACK?

Sorry for the thread derail, but there are some things that should not be tweaked, and making an older white guy with gray hair into a younger black guy with no hair is beyond comic stupid. Next thing, Hulk will turn pink and Captain America will be Japanese.

I don't follow superhero comics much, so that interpretation caught me by surprise when I saw part of the Ultimate Avengers movie on TV the other day.

Looks like the standard re-imagining of characters that happens in comics.

Maybe some Marvel fan can explain?

That is the Ultimates Nick Fury, iirc. They rebooted the worlds with Ultimates and let the authors carry out some different ideas with stock Marvel characters. One of those ideas is the Nick Fury you see before you.

And those are some very cool looking minis coming up for the Sinister line. I stopped buying boosters for the Heroclix stuff a long time ago for the similar reasons 9th gave. But I do buy singles (or multiples of singles...hehe) and looks like Sinister is not going to disappoint at all!

Thanks for posting those, Annerios!

Imax, to take this a little further, the Ultimates Nick Fury is modelled after Samuel L. Jackson with his consent. This makes me completely okay with the re-envisioning of the character. If I could be any actor that is active today, Samuel L. Jackson would be the man. I don't suppose you know how much I like Nick Fury, do you?

Captain America will be Japanese.

Yeah, that's the next wave of Heroclix: The Political Correct/Culturally Diverse Expansion.

And IMax - shocker, but I agree with you on not accepting the Nick Fury re-invent - I saw it on the Avengers DVD and while it "works", it simply is not acceptable to change someone that iconic.

It DOES matter what his race is, Mr. Comic Book Fan.
Just like Sgt Drake wouldn;t work IMO as a black man, Nick Fury does not work for me. There is a historical component that once seprated from the character, makes him a LESSER character, imo.

Funny, but before I noticed the figure's character name the first thing I thought was he was a perfect figure for Agent Carr Sr. :P

He would also work as generic agent or a perfect "survivor" figure for zombie based games/scenarios.

I would never use him as Nick Fury, because that is not who I picture in my head when I hear that name, but the figure may be useful nonetheless.

Almost all of those DreamBlade figs look better than anything Hasbro is putting out with HS lately. :(

Look at these things: (from WotC site)

And this guy is a slam-dunk for a Samurai Bodyguard:
http://www.wizards.com/dreamblade/images/gallery/Zungar_Bodyguard_LG.jpg

And there is also a Samurai in the set (look at the DreamBlade Virtual Starter Set) and the Axemorph Demon in there is better than all of these minis pictured.

Between this game and the HorrorClix, it shows how disappointing the HS figures are. :(

It is amazing how much cool stuff has been posted in this thread in the last couple of days. :D

I see some great HS customs in our future.

I had a scenario involving Cthulhu in Valhalla I was going to run for Halloween last year. This year I will have a bunch of figures by October so I can do it right.

I am pretty sure H_E_H made a Headless Horseman custom. Now we will have a pre-painted figure to use for it. Too cool.

Actually they kind of do look like him. Good one.

There are nods in there to Ghostbusters, American Psycho, The Exorcist,
Buffy, Phantasm, Bloodrayne, Dog Soldiers and a lot more. They may not
have all the licensing for everything, but they sure got around some of it
nicely.

The good thing is that if the game does well, there are so many other
figures they can do. They've only scratched the surface.

The starter set comes with some scenic pieces as well, but you can't see
them too clearly in the photo.

The people in the Wizkids forums keep asking for more 3-D stuff for their
games and some even mentioned using the HS castle as a gothic setting
for this game.

That Zombie Lawyer is just too cool. You can never have too
many zombies. . .

It turns out that the huge tree thing behind the vampire chick is not part of the background illustrations for the box. It is the "Tree of the Damned"; a large 3-D object that comes in the starter. There seem to be a couple of 3-D tombstones in there as well.

More goodies for HS scenery. I get the feeling this starter box is going to sell like crazy at Gencon.

So I am going to have to have at least 2 of the 7 figure Alien Packs. That means I'm gonna have to buy 24 packs of Horror Clix and then buy the collector's sets x2. ($6 x 24) + (2 x $10) = $164 AT LEAST. That's over $11 per alien. But I will get a lot of other figures if I open the packs and I guess I could try to sell the packs.

Imax

Nick fury is still white and with hair, but he's also black and bald. The reason for this is that there's now two marvel universes. In addition to the original universe, marvel now has the "ultimate" universe. In the "Ultimate" universe, all the stories were started fresh from the begining, but they started this century. Many charactors and stories were retooled when they did this.

This is not like the DC comics with 50 different versions of earth. Marvel has said that the worlds will never cross over.

latest news from wizkids is that they have the AVP license and they will be using it for horrorclix.

I've done the same. If you don't play the Wizkids' games it is better, because you can just pick up the rookie version of the figure which is cheaper (as long as the sculpt is the same).

Buying some Heroclix figures for .10 to .30 cents a piece is great. :D

All of those people that buy the bricks have to get rid of those redundant non LE's somehow and they end up being cheap.

The collector sets are another story. With so many people wanting the Aliens and Predators, those may sell for quite a bit on e-Bay.

I agree with you. The Lovecraft inspired stuff is one of the biggest draws for me.

What they call the Avatar of Cthulhu can be used for the "Star Spawn of Cthulhu" from the Call of Cthulhu RPG.

The zombies and vampires look quite good too. These kind of figures are sorely lacking in HS and it is great that we have pre-painted alternatives to fill the gap.

From the HORRORCLIX FORUM, for those of you interested in this line:

This Week For HorrorClix
Hey folks,

I wanted to give you a heads up about this week. Starting last week, we began shipping out 2-figure and 6-figure HorrorClix demo sets. These sets contain pretty much everything you need to play a game of HorrorClix. Registered venues will be receiving the 2-figure kits starting this week. Also, our level 2 envoys will get 2-player kits and level 3-5 will get 6-figure kits plus a bag of 2-figure kits to pass out for demos.

Sooooooo......

There's a very good chance you'll be seeing gameplay in your local store as early as the upcoming weekend. Please check with your retailer to see if the kit has arrived or bug your local level 2-5 envoys!

The blitz has begun!

Best,

Hey, I'm going to change the subject here. I found a cool web store this weekend that I didn't know of. www.frpgames.com The site was real easy to navigate and they seemed to have a wide selection. I found it while I was looking for Navia Drapt boosters, some miniature paint (I'm wanting to try something other than Walmart's acrylics) and green stuff.

I placed an order with them, I got some Vallejo paints, Green Stuff, Navia Drapt Boosters (for the minis not play) and a set of LOTR Easterlings ( http://www.frpgames.com/cart.php?m=product_detail&p=28175 ).

They didn't seem to have bad pricing at all but shipping seemed a lil'bit off.

I thought since they have such a wide selection and some Navia Drapt so I thought I'd share, :D

I don't think anyone posted this link to the "leaked" figures. There are a few that were not included in any of the 5 previews.

Now, to defend my statement of my dislike for the majority of the HorrorClix (if anyone cares)...

I didn't say EVERY figure looked like CreepyFreaks. Actually, none of them look like CreepyFreaks. That was a bit of exaggeration on my part after a quick look-see at the figures and noticing things like Lynch Ghost's particularly frightful single gray sock, Devil Imp's fiendish disproportionate head, and Dog Soldier 1 and 2's threat to bring back the flat top mullet.

If you look past those few figures, you have the razor vixens. Very cool figures, especially if you wanna finally complete that awards show make out session with Brittney Spears, Christina Aguilera, and Madonna scenario.

Also, if you ever play with Vampire Enforcer, there is an unwritten rule that you have to whisper out of the corner of your mouth "you wanna rock?" and then scream "ROCK!" all while holding the figure 4 inches in front of your face. (Feel free to incorporate Dog Soldier 1 and 2 into this 80s shindig)

Oh yeah, Mr. Fright just looks dumb and The Fiend is straight from the mind of Matt Groeing of The Simpsons and Futurama fame.

Here is a collage of the HorribleClix figures that I have referred to:
http://img60.imageshack.us/img60/3475/verybored4qt.th.jpg (http://img60.imageshack.us/my.php?image=verybored4qt.jpg)

On a serious note, all exaggeration aside, there are a few cool figures in the line. I know alot of you have been waiting for prepainted zombies and skeles for a while, and I'm happy that you guys got them. There just doesn't seem to be alot that appeals to me in this game.

By the way Cupid, your Chuthulu fig blows both of those out of the water.

I shake my head with wonder and confusion. I have been out of comics for a long time, if everyone accepts a bald, black Nick Fury. But if the fans don't seem to mind, I guess I'll just get over it.

But I'm not buying that figure, and you can't make me.

Don't panic...they haven't taken your classic Nick Fury away.

The black Nick Fury is from the "Ultimate Marvel" line of comics, which currently includes a Spider-Man, X-Men, Ultimates (Avengers) and Fantastic Four, plus some limited series like Daredevil/Elektra, Wolverine/Hulk, and Iron Man.

Ultimate Marvel is a way of bringing non-comics folks into comics, or at least that was the intention....each comic is totally self-contained and starts free of decades of continuity. The old comics are still there and going strong, but for those that don't want to wade through years of backstory, there's a nice contained series of X-men books too....that sort of thing.

I'd been out of comics for a bit when I got into Ultimate Marvel through the excellent series of hardcover collected editions....fantastic stuff. Black Nick Fury rules, as does his book "The Ultimates".....I suggest picking up volume 1.

There are gonna be 12 Huge figs in this set, and 6 will be Uncommon! So they should be less than $3 a piece - not bad for a big piece of prepainted plastic - cheaper than the Giant Heroes in HS. :poke:

Depending on the figure's scale, it could be modded to make another Grut orc dinosaur rider figure.

Those figures do look nice. I especially like the Dracolich and the Cadaver Collector. I'd like an Aspect of Tiamat too but not sure how likely that'll be. Just gotta hope I get lucky when I buy packs I guess.

I'm still waiting to see what size the Dreamblade figures are exactly. I know WoTC said about the size of the large figures in DnD but that still leaves a lot of room for size ranges.

How is Navia Drapt? I've thought about getting it but it's a big cash commitment since you have to buy two sets.

Excellent Game. Chess on steriods. This game is made and developed in Japan and has a decidely Japanese feel to it. Play is good, but can be a little frustrating at times. This game has multiple winning conditions, which is good. The main mechanic inovation is that each piece has 2 movement patterns that you can change once during the game. The front of the bases have a movment pattern print on them and you can turn it over to reveal a diferent pattern.

Bad Pieces. The Manga style sculpts are ugly as far as I'm concerned.
Bad support. It took more than a year and half before the first booster came out, after being pomissed then delayed 4 times, killing the game in the expansion world.

You can pick this up for cheap right now. I caught both starter sets (which are necessary in order to play a single game) and 6 boosters marked down in comic book store locally. The price was so low that I got 'em all for under $40. That's cheaper than the two startes alone when they first came out. Then I picked up a case of the boosters from the first set for under $45 including shipping off of eBay. The expansion boosters are still kind of high.

No one is playing this in the Dallas area, I picked it up for gamedays w/HS buddies and for my family to play.

RAFM makes some nice figures overall, but their "Modern Day Heroes" range is a real treat for movie fans. These are white metal figures you have to paint yourself, but even if you don't paint, some of these may be hard to resist:

A nice version of Selene from Underworld (if painted in the right color scheme).

Ugh. I saw part of that at a friend's house. He'd borrowed it. Ick. Stick to the comic....lovely drawings as opposed to bottom of the barrel, lowest-bidder animation. The animation in that DVD is disgustingly poor. The writing is sucky too....they take all the fun bits out and dumb it down for a younger crowd. Really, stick to the comic. I've been wanting a prepainted Dracolich for.......... 20 years now.
This guy's gonna be one of the Huge figs (the same size as the Giants of Legend Fiendish TRex, etc) in the Dragon Queen expansion of D&D Minis.

I MUST HAVE IT.

There are gonna be 12 Huge figs in this set, and 6 will be Uncommon! So they should be less than $3 a piece - not bad for a big piece of prepainted plastic - cheaper than the Giant Heroes in HS. :poke:

For example, this guy will probably be able to be gotten for around $2.50:
http://www.wizards.com/global/images/dnd_mi_20060511a_picMain_en.jpg

I really like the D&D minis. They are cool sculpts--particualrly the later ones. And what I really like is that most are so affordable to buy on eBay. For about $70 I recently bought over 90 Common and Uncommon figures. I got dwarfs, elves, skeletons, undead, orcs, goblins, warforged, hobgoblins, bugbears, knights/paladins (including standardbearers!), serpents, trogolydytes and more to mod into HS heroes and squads. Some really cool minis were as cheap as $.20 each. Most were $.99 or less. What fun! I even got a couple huge Uncommon figures too including a T'Rex beast for my orc horde and 4-armed ape-creature to team with the G'nators.

There is enough variety released in the series so far that you can often mix n match sculpts to create squads of "individual" figs more in HS fashion.

I really like that mounted Mammoth figure. It will totally go with my new squad of frost dwarves.

Hey Reaper: I haven't had a chance to cut too many bases off the DnD giant figures but with my Treant I found scissors worked just fine. I cut around the two legs and used a razor to trim it so you could no longer see the base unless you looked at the figure from below.

So scissors are good to cut out the large chunks of extra basing. An exacto knife should work well for the fine trim, especially if you heat the base with a hair-dryer first. You could also try to pull the entire figure off th base but I'm not sure if it would work as I have not yet tried.

Actually I've found Wire cutters to be best for getting the bulk of a D&D base cut away. After that I go in a take all of the excess off with an exacto blade to make it pretty, :) The small figures aren't as hard to take off their bases as the larger D&D figures.

Dreamblade scale:

Here is from the Dreamblade FAQ about the scale of the minis:

How big are the miniatures?
They have bases that are the same size as the large creatures (like ogres) in the D&D miniatures game (40mm). The creatures themselves vary in size, but on average they are similar in size to the large ogres, abominations, and dragons of D&D minis.

Also these are some of the most expensive in the game. Vorgoth is 89.99, The Black Knight,Tornok, and Valantis are 79.99. Kem Ravensblade is 22.99
Marz is 11.99

Thanks to Fallen Templar's tip, I now have my Lord Valantis on ebay:

Do children not have nipples then? To the average 4-year old, any bare-chested figure would look odd WITHOUT nipples. Problem is, we've become so obsessed with covering them up we've forgotten that everyone's got a pair.

Fantastic stuff. It is a shame that Wizkids does not actually make some awesome 3D terrain like this to actually use with the game! This kind of approach to the buildings with removable roof options is what I hope we get if they decide to make some official buildings for HS.

The figures look nice on the table, so that is encouraging.

You can see more photos here:

They are going to have a Temple of the Great Cthulhu table starting at Origins, that should be interesting to see and play on.

In the image showing her front, I think it looks more like a whip than a braid of her hair. The sculpt looks like she is holding the whip, as well. And you can't really tell from the back, as that area is blocked out by her wings.

But I could be totally off, and that piece could be her hair braided.

Check out the nice "Camp Wannabonkya" custom terrain table they are using for Horrorclix at some conventions...
And I must say that this set up is AWESOME. I could imagine playing the game in a darkened room with miniature lights on the board to add to the effect. OH! Or, have the scenario switch back and forth from night (lights off) to day (lights on)! Change the mood up that way.

Either way, it is a great board.

One thing I personally don't like with figures meant to be used in a game is when the sculpt is too specific about a character action. For example, the third image from the top, lower left hand corner. The fig who looks like an exorcist removing a spirit from a victim. There is just too much going on there, you know? The sculpt is too busy and doesn't leave too much room for the imagination outside of what is going on there.

I agree, it is "busy".

However, with an X-acto knife and some careful cutting of your example, you could end up with 2 or 3 useful figures. :chainsaw:

Figures on the ground are good to use for victims, hostages or sometimes just corpses to set up the atmosphere on a battlefield.

If you put that female figure on an altar, you could have a nice "sacrifice to Cthulhu" figure.

There are always possibilities.

That Giant Spider is another one. I love the figure, but it will have to be removed from that pillar/victim. I don't like the way it looks.

Yeah, but why is this? They had some great looking figs, some far better then most Marvel or DC. So why did they not sell. I keep coming back to the fact that Indies are not as popular here as they are in the UK or as much as the were in years gone by. Any insight into this?

The big players/spenders of the heroclix games are comic fans. Some don't even play the game, they just collect the figs.

Most people that like marvel comics, read several different marvel books(same with DC). So, if they buy a booster or two, they're very likely to get a charactor they know.

People who like indy comics, generally only read a couple indy books(and probably a few DC and marvel too) so, if they buy a booster, they're not very likely to get a fig they want.

From a players view, the indyclix line just doesn't add anything to the game that the other two sets don't already have(and sometimes has better). I've hear the last indy set was just crap. Almost every charactor was the same as far as gameplay goes.

Really, for indyclix to go anywhere, they need a spawn and tombraider heavy set. niether will happen though since wizkids can't get the licenses.

They are big though, 54mm to be in scale as described in the books against 28mm human figures.

I would probably just buy 1 individual figure to use as Tars Tarkas. :)

The Dreamscape bases are oversized because they have the figure stats printed on them. The figures actual heights in heroscape terms will be from about 4-7 height. Most figures are monsters not humans anyways :!:

Yeah. I've been looking around for bikes at 1/43 scale (scale closest to 28mm) and haven't found any yet but want to make some rules for small personal vehicles. The SPVs would be on the map and the first medium or small figure to activate it could use it's movement instead of their own. There would be some rules about attacking the SPV and how the SPV could change hands or drop into a space after a figure was eliminated.

I've done some measuring on the Dreamblade figures (I called it Dreamscape earlier, D'oh!) and the humans are (if the bases are 2'' as I have read) about 2" tall - or around 50mm scale. That is big. But the monsters and creatures are amazing. I must have Doctor Ape - an uncommon chimp screaming and holding a bottle in his foot. I'll swap that for a gun or a sword...

My comic shop owner confirmed he's ordering Horrorclix (he wants Cthulhu) so now I get to decide if I want to get a brick of those things to be able to buy the Aliens sooner......

From what I have seen so far in the Champions of the Force set many of the humans (including the stromtrooper) are bigger than previous SW mini sets and are almost a perfect fit for HS.

That is great news! I don't have any of these yet.

I should have some in a couple of days. If they do appear larger in scale than previously released SW minis, I'll post some comparison pics.

Does anybody know yet if they're gonna have those weird square bases on them, like in Oogie's pics?

Please no, please no, please no.

LilNewbie
June 20th, 2006, 11:54 AM
The figures will have the square, colored bases. The color determines which aspect the figure is aligned to (valor, etc.) The bottom of the bases will have the figures powers, stats, etc.

I think the bases were designed to be the DnD equivalent to the Mageknight bases - only they could not use a click dial since it had been done already. Instead they decided to go with a large and clunky base where they could include all the information. If you download the starter pack you'll see what I mean: it looks like the base is a Magic card with a spawn cost, stats, faction and special abilities.

So you no longer have to keep track of any cards but you gotta deal with the strange base. Or you can lop off the base if you do not want to play the game and only want the figure.

Or I could want to have my cake and eat it too. I'd like to keep the figures intact. I'm very anal about that. Some folks I know of like to take clickies off their bases b/c the bases are ugly, and they are. But I can't see myself cutting the base off of a rare fig for another mini game.

That is why I'm disappointed.

are they all gonna be huge like the trolls from D&D. I used the Hawk guy if hes close to HS human scale

The info I've seen said the bases were 2 inch squares. That make those figs pretty big.

WoTC has stated the figures will be around the size of the large ogres in DnD miniatures but obviously some will vary from that estimate.

And the Dreamblade fig bases will not fit very confortably on a HS base, unfortunately.
I have the Boneblade Serpent (showed it at NorCal Gameday), and the base bleeds into other hexes. It would work as long as the board isn't cramped....

Neat crystals Reaper. Thanks for posting them.

As for the idea of fish tank decorations, I've thought about it. Some are pretty detailed and cool looking. They are also about the right size for HS. Most of the really good ones like the large ruins are pretty expensive though so I haven't tried to add any fish tank scenary yet.

Also I think some people used some of the fake aquarium plants back before the HS trees came out.

Fish tank scenery has been used as gaming terrain for many years.

It's been said before, but I'm saying it again:

If Hasbro released a terrain prop set with similiar items with a sheet of rules for partial cover, there would be MUCH rejoicing.

We needs it, pr-r-r-recious... we NEEDS it!!

reapersaurus
June 21st, 2006, 07:13 PM
But I wouldn't assemble and paint those props myself.

I also would not pay $70+ for a simple terrain piece if it came prepainted.

The problem with companies that do terrain is that - either too expensive, or too much work and expertise required to make them presentable. :(

Rhydderch

I think HS should just release a prop set that comes assembled and painted. Maybe it can include a figure too.

Of course I think Hasbro has decided to release the props a little at a time as a sales strategy. Hence we see a few props in one large pack and we *have* to buy it, a la Road to the Forgotten Forest.

InfinityMax

Hell, I would take it in little doses and be happy for it. Only, I really wish they had some decent cover rules.

jcb231

As far as props go, I want...

-Rocks...plain old boulder sort of rocks, that can offer some cover to smaller units.

-Desert rocks...large reddish brown jaggedy outcroppings to put in sand for cover.

-Palm Trees/Desert Scrub....mostly just for visual interest, but they could provide some very limited cover if used in large groups....could also provide obstacles to funnel troops this way or that.

-Canopy Trees....large trees that provide cover from above, but not so much the sides.

-New Ruins...some new types of ruined buildings, in various shapes and combinations.

-Snowy Pine Trees....visual interest, mostly.

For terrain, I'm hoping for...

-Quicksand...sandy colored water-type tiles that can kill units based on size...bigger units have more chance of sinking and dying.

-Swamp/Bog....land and water-type tiles with slightly different properties...units get slowed down or stuck.

-Pit-Traps or Land-Mines....I'm ot quite sure how these could be done, but it sure would be fun to have hidden death-dealers.

Rhydderch

For the ruins I think some old statues and pillars would be nice. Some large stone blocks, a la stonehenge would be cool too, especially if they included an altar the figures can stand on.

Some dead trees would be cool. Maybe some low brush and foliage too.

Man-made props might be fun too - crates and barbed wire and the like.

Some dead trees would be cool. Maybe some low brush and foliage too. Remember, the cool tree is coming out with the HorrorClix starter! :D

And there may even be a gravestone there, too *hoping hoping hoping*

And for altars, fountains andf the like, there is already MAge Knight Artifacts 1 and 2.

I would love to get some of those fountains BTW I see my local comic store is selling mage knight towers for like 10 and 12 dollars. Is that a good price? i never played MK but I think I may pick up a couple of castles for looks.

Turtleboy

Depends on the size of the tower Sky. Some MK castles went for alot of cash and some were fairly resonable.

Might have to play it by year.
