Maybe it's the cool sniper rifle and all...I'm a big fan of the hawkeye.
I've had fairly good success with him. His 10% chance to spray your opponents grey matter is very nice. I had a really nice game decimitating my opponents Q9, and in another game his Nilfiem.
What say you?

I've drafted him in every game I've played since I bought the pack a couple weeks ago. Pretty easy to use his special attack and pick off squad members too at range.

I personally dont like him, if he has to stay in the same spot to fire, hes gunna be toast in a few rounds. I dont see how people could like him, unless he always comes up big in ur game withthe 20D.

At height with Taelord he has 10 range with 3 attack dice. I've had good luck with him backed up by KMA at height.

Well...yes, typically Deadeye is toast in close quarters/ranged combat. I typically put all my turns on him while in range of big value targets, and then take my chances. If I'm lucky enough, maybe 2 rounds - 3 turns each. Of course, that's a gambler's method!
I haven't utitlized his other special ability as of yet, hopefully I'll get the chance soon.

He's okay to stay in one spot. 10 range affords him plenty space!

Yes the Enhanced Rifle rocks. He's excellent against Sentinels, Minions, and the 'make-me-oh-so-nervous' EOV!

I would love if we had a database here....each unit could be looked up or searched by various keywords, and all of the official info would be there, plus tips, tricks, and reviews by board members AND all of the links to other official units that work with that guy AND all of the links to good coutners, etc.
That would be peachy.
Anyway....Dan's great. His sharpshooter power is a real gamble, but the Ullar Rifle special attack is amazingly effective at picking off anything that gives you grief with it's high defense. Minions drop like flies.
He's bound to be a great castle defender. Put him up in the tower and let him go nuts.

Haven't seen it mentioned explicitly on this thread (though I'm pretty sure it has been elsewhere), but DED (there's your shorthand, NWOJedi  ) is a wonderful decoy also. Putting that X on him usually slows an advance, or detours it, and allows one to position troops (4th Mass, Raelin tactics, etc.)
The last game I used him, I got him positioned in a bottleneck area of the board and then piled up 4th Mass behind him and though DED only picked off one Tagawa (only shot he took), the 4th were able to clean up and subsequently take the high ground, game over.
I'm sure a situation like this is what Joah was referring to when stating "[DED is] the biggest game changer of all the cowboys."

Took Deadeye Dan last night on a 6 player, 200-points per player game. Big board and I think he worked perfectly for the map size.
He was down low and was able to pick off a Tagawa samurai who had engaged a friendly Primadon.
That was the only kill he got in, but it was an important one at 10 spaces away. Of course I had to do the Good, The Bad, and The Ugly 'wahawawa' music when he made the kill.

But when people are telling about the effectivness of a unit,
I'm sick and tired of people piling things on.
'Yea, it's not that great of a unit, but with [glyph] and [glyph] and [glyph] and [special situation] and [height advantage] and [specialpower] he totally 0w3z d00d!"
Come ON, any unit is good with all sorts of paramiters. When comparing a unit, or its effectivness, stop citing situations that would tend to happen less than 1% of the time.

I had a rematch with my brother, who had used his sneaky Guilty McCreech to steal the thunder out of my wonderfully placed Sniper 20 roll on Q9.
It was also the "rematch" between DED and Q9. And once again, I rolled a 19 to blow his nice, shiny Tin head off his body.
I managed to win the game, without interference from a game stealing McCreech! :chainsaw:

I love drafting Deadeye Dan into my army just to watch the shiver go down my opponent's spine. I think he's an awesome army card and is totally worth his points.
Deadeye Dan is a pretty sweet figure. With his range of 10 to out range Syvarris' range of 9. I love his Ullar Enhanced Rifle Special attack. He can shoot down squads like the Minions and the Krav Agents like nothing. Sure it takes 1 turn per hit but it's worth it if he's high and out of reach. Just take advantage of his range. His downfalls are that he's got 3 life and 2 defense. But who cares about that when he costs 60 points.
His sharpshooter is awesome even though it takes a pretty good d20 roll. I've done pretty well with him in my battles though. I've taken out Jotun, Braxas, Charos, Mimring, and Krug with his sharpshooter special attack. But that's just me. I'd give him a 4.5/5.
What do you think?

Deadeye Dan can shoot so far...
1.) The bullet could miss, travel all across Valhalla, and hit the target on the 2nd trip.
2.) One game he fired his rifle at his opponent's figure, and hit a different player's figure on a different map in a different game!
3.) He was at a shooting range in L.A., fired, and shot someone off the top floor of the Empire State Building.

i allways use him and leave him in the front line of the starting area behind some type of cover so that he can use his full range and get rid of squad figures. he is especialy useful for people who have counter strike and stealth dodge.

Yes... Dan needs some units out in front of him absorbing the brunt of the attacks while he picks off key targets. One thing I like to do with him is keep the X marker on him most of the time. Then, when you actually put one marker on him, your opponent might assume its the X and not target him.
I find he's a cheap counter to all of the Agents, bypassing their ranged defensive abilities. I hardly ever use his D20 ability unless I have no one else to target or I'm in a desperate situation. Also, like most ranged units, rats are his best friend to tie up potential targets.

I find it odd that nobody's mentioned the DED Theracus or DED and Brunak Combo. Have one of them place DED into position then have him start firing away. DED is an X factor. I've seen him 1 shot Q9, DW8K, and Syvarris in one game. I've also seen him die to rats (with height). Once he becomes engaged he's actually rather worthless, because his special says any non adjacent figure. Sometimes he rocks and sometimes, not so much.

Range is one of the on-going oddities about HeroScape. We've got an elf who can shoot arrows 50% further than a Revolutionary War era musket, and even further than a WWII rifle. Plus the Airborne Elite can throw a hand grenade over half the distance of a rifle shot (and Jotun can throw a person half the distance of a rifle shot too). Just amazing.
