I'm having a bit of a graphics problem with the internet in general....if anyone can tell me what might be wrong I'd appreciate it.

Every time I try to look at a picture online, even the little graphics surrounding the borders of this site and others (like the picture of scaper up in the right corner or the logo font in the upper left), they look like they are color bleeding or are otherwise fuzzy/blurry. No pictures are sharp anymore, on any site.

Is some setting off on my browser? Pictures that are already on my computer (like my desktop, personal photos, etc) look fine....but anything new I try to access from the net looks bad, even if I save it to my computer and look at it offline.

PM me if anyone has a solution, or at least a suggestion, please.

are you using a hi speed service that is not dsl or cable?like net zero high speed i used that for a year and it lowered the quality of images for faster loading you could change i in the option's if that doesent work try tools/Internet options/advance tab and set to defaults.

I'm using dial up.

What options should I change?

serious.a reboot is probably the answer, IF it just started today, out of the blue.

Is this repeatable? What makes you think it's a setting, instead of a glitch?

If you are using IE, select Tools>Internet Options and then go to the Advanced Tab. Under the Multimedia section see if the Smart Image Dithering is selected or not. Make sure it's selected (deselect and reselect if it shows selected) and then hit OK. Close out your browser and restart it. See what that does.

You may need to clear the browser cache also.

Something else from a techy website:

One additional note for those using AOL. If your having problems with the way graphics appear on your browser under AOL, click on MyAOL (in the toolbar), preferences, WWW, and select the Web Graphics tab. You will see a check box with text beside it that says Use compressed graphics. Uncheck this box. The compression does not seem to be working correctly and will mess up the quaility of the web graphics that are being cached on your PC.

Also check to see if the High Contrast box is selected under the Accessibility functions. Deselect the option if it is selected.

Well in your post, you didn't mention if you rebooted or not. Like Reaper said if it just started happening try rebooting. Whenever I encounter a problem with my computer I reboot. I thought that was common knowledge, if that doesn't fix it THEN I start looking around for help.

oh. dial up!
your isp may have enabled an 'accelerator'
typically what these do is 'speed up' your connection by not giving you all the data.

Take the Kyrie guy at the top of HSers. To me, the file is 8483 bytes. I bet your dial up service is feeing you a scaled down copy of the image, ie, one that takes up less space.

So, do everything you can to turn off internet acceleration, its probably in some software your dial up provider gave you

-edit: oh yeah, like django said in his first post

Lol....sorry, I just wrongly assumed that folks would realize that of course I'd tried that. Isn't that just the instant first strike against any computer problem? Or hell, any tech problem at all? When my TV acts up I just turn it off and then back on, and it fixes itself. :-P

Browser cache? Is that different than my history?

I don't use AOL.

I don't have a High Contrast box under accessibility options.

I did the smart image dithering thing. Didn't work.
